As a San Diego resident I have to say the food is pretty authentic. You don't go to a taco shop looking for 5 star cuisine, right? The food was tasty, plentiful and cheap.

This place is great if you are on a diet, because the food will go right thru you at a rapid velocity. I do not recommend this filthy, feces filled establishment. Food tastes like dog food and the employees are very rude. You drive up thru the drive thru and no one greets you. After I said, 'hello', they'll ask 'what do you want' and you tell them and they go 'KAY' and you will sit there in awkward silence until you make the first move again.

Delicious California burritos!! Love this place. The service is really hit and miss but you don't really care when the food is this good. Coming from California originally, its hard to find authentic Mexican food in this area, this is definitely it!

If you read my other postings, I travel the United States, and Im a chef ok Retired Chef. What you don't know I lived in the CDA area for 20 years and moving a few years ago to Seattle. If you follow the food scene CDA needed another Mexican Or Chinese eatery like a foot growing out of your ear. Last week I was in CDA and saw the old KFC was gone and Atilano's had its place. So to our great surprise great Mexican food, told my wife the menu and the food tasted like my beloved hang outs in So-cal Alberto's franchises. After doing some nosing around one of the owners owns in San Diego an Alberto"s that explains the San Diego ref. on the menu. NOTE TO OWNERS, I have seen a So-Cal owner from East L.A. come up and after 3 months watered down his flavors and sauces to appeal more to the taco bell taste buds. Do those who live here and visit a big favor, leave it alone. Don't change a thing and youll do great. Let the whiners about spice or the style of sauce run back to Taco Bell and Del Taco nice place for those with that type of palet to enjoy the bland. I came in here with my dad for a quick lunch. No one spoke English very well so it made it hard to understand if the beans were vegetarian or not. They claimed they were but I was skeptical because they didn't seem like they understood me at all. I got 1/2 way through my veggie burrito, I look down and there is some weird greenish tinted thing in my burrito and realized it was a piece of beef. I opened up my burrito to see if there was more and there wasn't thank God! But I was so grossed out I didn't want to eat anymore.

Sometimes the food is pretty good. The last time I went there I ordered the bean and cheese burrito and a drink through the drive through speaker. There was trash everywhere including a crushed beer can next to the outdoor menu. My drink had rat feces on the lid- this place is filthy. Burrito was good though. I wont be back due to the feces.

Grew up eating this in San Diego and it doesn't get any more authentic than Mexican food from Mexico. Maybe other parts of Mexico do it different, but this is what Mexican food is in Baja and north Mexico (aka Southern California). Open one of these in missoula.

this place is nasty, food is terrible and the worst part of it all is all the food is being cooked by Mexicans not whitey. it does not make since why this place is so bad because usually Mexicans cook food they grew up eating. i actually feel bad that the chef or whoever is in charge of the menu grew up eating poop.

I go to Mexico every year, at least once. I'm VERY familiar with authentic Mexican food. Atilano's is as close as you'll get without heading to Mexico. LOVE the Carne Asada Burrito. Their breakfast burritos are excellent. The outside (and inside) remind me of restaurants in Cabo. You can't beat it AND they'll DELIVER!

I love how other reviewers laud their hometown as if that somehow entitles them to decide if this is good or not. Well listen, I'm from SPOKANE, WASHINGTON and I like TACOS. Why? BECAUSE, REASONS. I have been to Mexico half a dozen times on long-term labor trips and I know what I like. Does that mean it's less legit? Nope. I just know what I like to put in my mouth. If it tastes good, whatever. Go for it. I've been known to get down with some Tacos del Mar. Do I tell everyone? Well, technically I just did, but whatever. If I'm hungry, it's whatever... I know that I don't like yellow cheese in a burrito. That lettuce has no place on my plate here .. that if I want the spicy I MEAN SPICY not "blonde white girl salsa"... I know that when I come in here and order in Spanish, they kind of laugh at me, but sober up when I know what the heck I'm talking about. I know how to ask for what I want (Tacos con cebolla y cilantro .. nada mas) and I get it. It's not that hard.

Very salty food, good price, friendly enough service through the drive through. Sadly, that's all about it. I've tried it twice and both times it was just too salty to even finish eating. A packet of ramen noodles tastes less salty than this!

Everywhere I live I look for a great, authentic Mexican restaurant. I lived and worked with Mexican people for a few years and I've grown to love their food and their culture. Atilanos offers everything to fulfill that craving. They don't "American-ize" their salsa, so it isn't dull and lifeless...it's packed with flavor. Every dish I've tried has been excellent. I love Atilanos!

Not a fan. Slow service, not a friendly staff, at least the ones that assisted me. And possibly the worst "carne asada" fries I've ever had. They were basically chewy grease balls on fries. I shudder at the memory of their texture and flavor. Won't be coming back.

My wife and I were intrigued by the "Best Burrito in San Diego" signage while visiting Coeur d' Alene. We stopped in for lunch. I ordered a "Special Burrito" with pork. The flavor was good, the pork a little too finely ground (not traditional chunks) for my tastes. It was definitely big and the price point was very good. Although it was only luke warm when it arrived, it was very filling. My wife had a beef enchilada combo plate which was terrible. It looked and tasted like a pre-made frozen dinner, all this disappointment for a rather high price point. "The Best Burrito in San Diego?" Not sure. The burrito was good, but not memorable. If you do stop by, order the burritos.

This food factory is a spin-off of the beloved Alberto's chains in Southern California which is well known for its late night crowd and dingy dinging rooms but awesome food! I stick with burritos as its my choice, Ive heard nice comments about their tacos (fish especially) I never eat inside as I have seen what happens in their after a lunch rush (its a mess). Try the carne asada burrito-its not stuffed with nonsense fillers. You get carne asada, pico de gallo & gaucamole. They are huge & cheap as ever. The california burrito is outstanding as well.

Well, since this place does it better than almost every sit down Mexican restaurant in the county, it gets my recommendation. A friend of mine who has eaten a lot of Mexican food said this was the place to go and he was right. I've been back multiple times and enjoyed the food a lot. I usually shy away from chains, but his place keeps me coming back. Plenty of food, quick service and a great price. Unless you cross over to Spokane and eat at a couple of places there, you're best off eating here if you're in the Coeur d'Alene area. Love the service also and comfy place to eat. Next up, to try the Menudo when it's available. Oh, and they're open 24 hours.

As a former resident of San Francisco's Mission District, I appreciate inexpensive, plentiful tacqueria style dining. Now that the white taco truck on Government Way is under new and less traditional ownership, Atilano's has become our go-to for quick carryout lunch or dinner. I've lived in north Idaho for several years now, and couldn't love it more, but Atilano's is a welcome reminder of one of the few things I miss about living in San Francisco. Welcome to CDA!

The food here is awful. When they first opened, I was very excited about them, they seemed to offer food in a similar vein to a lot of fast food Mexican places I've eaten at in southern California. (If you know what Santana's is, you'll have some idea of what I was hoping for.) I was crushingly disappointed. Their carne asada is about the blandest thing I've ever tasted; that is, when is hasn't been overcooked to the point of being crispy shriveled little chunks of almost charcoal. I wanted to like them, I tried multiple times hoping I was just having bad luck with what I ordered. I've ordered chicken taquitos 4 times from them, not once have I ever received chicken taquitos. Every single time it was shredded beef, which I have never cared for. The first two times I figured it was just a mistake, after all, taquitos all look the same from the outside. But four times put it right into some bizarre joke that I just don't get. To this day I'm not entirely sure they actually have chicken, despite it being in many places on their menu. Every now and then I'd take a bite of various dishes from other people's trips to this place, hoping for some kind of improvement, but it never changed. I finally gave up, their food is just really, really bad. I began to think that the people who actually like what they serve have something seriously wrong with their taste buds, or else maybe they just have no idea what actual Mexican food should taste like, even cheap fast food Mexican can be delicious. Not here, avoid it like the plague. Taco Bell is a block away, and even though it doesn't actually count as anything close to real Mexican, it's still worlds better than this.

Some of the Best You Will Find... In Coeur D'Alene In a town with nearly zero satisfying Mexican food establishments this is a about as good as it gets, which is not saying too much. Most of their dishes are pretty average with no flavors really standing out, or any dish on the verge of outstanding. The food is just... ok, but none of it necessarily bad. Their salsa: drizzly with a dull flavor. Service tends to be slow for a place that has a drive thru, I've often waited longer than 10 minutes at the window for my food, and thats if there was nobody in front of me. I would say their best offerings are the burritos, which are large and jam-packed with whatever you wish. However saying the best thing you can cook are burritos is akin to saying you're specialty dish is casserole, except thankfully I'll take a burrito anyday over casserole. All in all the pricing is reasonable and the food will definitely fill you up. If you're really in dire need of Mexican food, this is probably one of the few places in the CDA area that isnt completely terrible.

If you've been to Southern California, and you appreciate the the cheap, fast-food Mexican food joints, this is a bonafide knock-off, and it is done well. You get a lot for your money, it's closer to real Mexican food than any Americanized chain, and the salsa bar is beyond awesome. As a relocated SoCal-er living in Coeur d'Alene, I'm loving having this place a few miles from my home. Caveat: They may or may not get your order right. I have about a 75% success rate. Last visit, they got my order wrong, and when I told them this (it was on the receipt), the lady at the counter told me I was wrong. Seriously? Luckily, I like the place enough to keep coming back.

Terrible food and customer service! We are from San Diego and were very excited to have a "San Diego" Mexican restaurant open up locally. This place has served us raw meat in our burritos and other items and the food is just terrible. We both got food poisoning from this place and our friend got sick every single time he tried to eat here. Days of diarrhea related to eating at this place. Cheapest of cheap with little to no flavor beside the grease they fry everything in. We asked for the meat to be cooked well done, the server yelled something in Spanish and we received extra raw food as a result. We spoke with the manager who didn't care about our concern, she just laughed at us with her employees. We've visited the atilanos in spokane and the management and staff are respectful and care about providing decent food to customers - there's something wrong with the CDA restaurant.

I've eaten here many times and haven't been sick once like other reviewers are suggesting. I'd consider myself a regular customer. The menu items I usually go for are carne asada fries, carne asada burritos and beef hard shell tacos. The food is great for the price and the burritos are gargantuan! I can't think of anywhere else in town that you get so much bang for your buck. I took a couple of my kids there for the first time last night. They had a bit of a chuckle at the drive-thru lady who looks and sounds like a character straight out of South Park and they really enjoyed their food. They both had giant bean and cheese burritos and my son claimed it was THE BEST BURRITO HE HAS EVER EATEN IN HIS LIFE! I'm happy to report they didn't get sick either. It would appear that many California transplants like myself really appreciate the taste of home that Atilano's provides. Now if somebody would just open a Weinerschitzel!

ok so i went back today after some uninspired chicken tacos from Cafe Rio yesterday and decided to give them another try. i love mexican food and am incredibly depressed with my options in this town so far (i come from the Walla Walla area where people know how to make some mexican food!). the burritos from here were meh and the fish tacos scared me off for awhile. but the carne asada tacos...omg! delicious. street taco style with just onions cilantro and tomatoes on top. huge! green sauce was delicious. i am a fan now!

Same type of dumpy mex place you'd expect in SoCal, except that they imported it to CDA. Food is good but don't expect to be "wowed". They make a huge pile of carne asada meat in the morning and let it sit all day..gets dried out and tough to chew on. Carne asada fries are rockin and it's inexpensive. If you want a taste of home, stick with the little taco trucks on the side of the road those are the best.

The food tasted pretty darn good going down. Coming back up the next couple of days, not so much. The place was a disaster zone...I don't think they cleaned it after the KFC went out....it's greasy and just gives you a very unclean feeling. The only time I was in there we were using an old paper towel dispenser for napkins......The place had not been well renovated and you could see the kitchen and it was NASTY. I'm telling you, the steak burrito I had was super delicious...but it gave me food poisoning. I'm surprised that they haven't been shut down for how unclean that place is....

I went there a few days ago and went through the drive and ordered 4 carne asada big burritos, 2 California burritos and 1cheese quesadillas. It was soo good. I was super excited to finally find a Mexican restaurant just like San Diego coz I've sure been missing it. But come to a complete surprise the next day we haven't been feeling well. My son and daughter just had the cheese quesidilla and have been pooping and throwing up since. My husband and I have been the same as well. I seriously think health inspection should go there and check em out since its been numerous cases of food poisoning. Try it but be prepared to feel like crap for the next few days.

The people staff here is very unfriendly and unhelpful. I asked if I cloud order a taco and an enchilada with rice and beans and he said "no, we don't do that". He them proceeded to tell me I could buy them all separately. Anyway the food is terrible also. It tastes like canned dog food. The facility is disgusting and is not very clean.

I really believe that they need to taste thier food before they sell it. I ordered a Lengua burrito. It was awful all it had in it was meat, onion, and cilantro. The onions overpowered everything it was terrible. So theb I thought I ordered the wrong thing. So I ordered a different burrito, the meat was dry very salty and not very flavorful. And then to top it all off they were trying to unplug a drain in the dining area using a kitchen knife. I will never return! And if you're looking for good food I would look elsewhere.

Was a little weary going here at first due to their mixed reviews, but was told that their breakfast burritos are great so we went for it. Chorizo breakfast burrito was freaking delicious, I'd def go there again. The service, on the other hand, is where they lose all their stars. Ordering was fine, but then we waited, and waited, and waited while watching orders fly out the drive-thru window. After about 15 minutes the man hiking orders out the window see's me looking at him with a less than thrilled expression and shouts at the cooks, burritos out 30 seconds later. Seems they had been ready but no one could be bothered to fetch the order. Ohwell, food is good, service is not, but breakfast burritos that good are hard to find in Seattle, so I'll be back.

Don't eat here! I used to come to this place and order the same thing. Why the prices will be different every time? When the servers/cashier are different the prices seems to be different! I even pointed at the prices in the menu and ask this person (in Spanish) Why are you charging me more? She said ( we always charge extra for add ons) No! It's not considered at add on if it is part of the description of the item in the menu!! Same things with the food, different cook the food seems to be different. I am never coming back...
