I like a drive in that has prime rib dinners on fridays and saturdays. Unfortunately we came here for a snack, so i got a ice cream potato, and a jr hamburger. Hamburger was good, ice cream potato was unique. I tried my friends fries (meh), and my other friend's white chocolate huckleberry milk snake (too sweet).

Yes, it's a drive in! Family member in town had heard of it. .so off we went. Just happened to beat the rush getting here on Prime Rib night about 6:20ish-nice! Ordered the Guacamole Burger, peanut butter shake, Mr ordered the Dadio, brother ordered grilled cheese & corn dog. Husband loved his burger, the messy layers that he finished eating with a fork. Brother & I split the burger. Neither of us cared for the very thick layer of cold & crisp shredded lettuce which made it very "slippery" so once that was pared down ok. Liked the buns with a dusting of cornmeal letting you know this isn't just store bought bums. Seasoned fries & tots were perfectly crisp and liked the fry sauce too. Peanut butter shake was thick but not really peanut butter-y (yes, a high tech term there). Was hoping they'd read previous review! The 21st Street patio is a nice addition (don't think it was here the last time!) & provided much needed evening shade. Yes, it's a diner but on the upper end of diner food! So, we'll be back again.

As a wise man once said, a burger is only as good as the fries it is served with. Even though the burger was tasty, the fries were smothered in seasoning salt and it kind of ruined the taste of everything else. The vibe of the place is pretty cool though. Maybe tone it down on the Guy Fieri posters.

Great customer service. I was greeted with a smile and very quickly! I appreciate great customer service. I was craving a Corn Dog and I was happy!

Being a Triple-D fan...the show on Food Network not the other one geez! I knew it was time to visit one of the many stops on Guy Fieri's (or as my grandma calls him Guy Ferrari) trail of good eats! Approaching the place it reminded me slightly of the run down Sno-White Drive Ins that still dot many California towns but as they say, don't judge a book by it's cover! Westside is your typical drive-in with all the mouthwatering favorites which put drive-ins on the map except this place has an extra special secret weapon...The Ice Cream Baked Potato!!! Yes you heard me right and no it's not what you would expect! Basically they take ice cream and form it into the shape of a potato, deep freezing it I'd imagine so it keeps its form. Then they roll it in cocoa powder to give it that authentic potato skin. Next up they make a slit in the potato to fashion it like a baked potato and spray in some whipped cream to mimic sour cream. Finally they place it in the tray or to go box in a pool of chocolate sauce! The end result is one of the tastiest and gluttonous desserts you'll ever eat! Grandma though we should be a bit naughtier and add in some real potatoes in the form of fries along with their signature fry sauce. This was a very delicious mecca to a now very popular drive-in!!! Thanks Mr. "Ferrari"!

I may have just not chosen the best thing for me, but I didn't love the Cajun burger. It was big and neat looking... But oh my god, way too spicy! The float i ordered also wasn't a win. It was the coffee cooler, but not so cold. It was like drinking unsweetened coffee at room temperature. However, the mozzarella sticks were the best I ever had! Yum! And the service was great! Very cute location, willing to go back.

I would say 3.5 stars if that was an option. I had a chicken sandwich that was good but not memorable and my husband had the avocado burger which he said was ok. The fries were good but nothing to get excited about. The Ice Cream potato was cool, looked like a real baked potato! I will be back to try out some of the yummy desserts on the menu!

After all the hype this place has it was a sore disappointment. I would recommend Fanci Freeze just up the road as an alternative. We were over charged by about five dollars the first time. We went back and they gave us a dollar and some change back. After some arguing we finally were charged the correct amount. When they called our order they said a teriyaki sandwich when we had ordered a burger. We asked if it was in fact the teriyaki sandwich and they doubled back and said it was something else, whatever it was that we ordered. We double checked to make sure our order looked correct and finally left. My monte cristo sandwich was disgusting, and I couldn't finish it. DO NOT ORDER if you are a fan of traditional monte cristos. They put a hard crusted breading on it almost like what would go on chicken or something. It is definitely not the traditional french toast like sandwich. Overall, the burger and fries were okay besides being a little soggy. Neither of us finished our food. Additionally, they make their fry sauce with tarter sauce and ketchup. This is Idaho, and there are some things you don't mess with. Will likely not go back.

Even with Boise pounded by nearly eight inches of snow in two days -- an all-time record in November -- the Westside Drive-In hardly missed a beat. Customers were still pouring in over the weekend. I came in for an order of finger steaks. With the outside temperature at about 10 degrees, steam from the finger steaks and Tater Gems rose in the car. The finger steaks, an Idaho original, were tasty as ever. The Gems, the J.R. Simplot version of that other potato product from Ore-Ida, were also good. The dinner combination also includes a large chunk of Texas toast. Containers of cocktail sauce and fry sauce rounded out the condiments, plus a Westside fortune cookie.

I absolutely love it here! We got a bacon burger and a BBQ bacon burger that were really reasonably priced, so we were expecting the norm burger. We were way off! They were huge! And seriously good! Made from what appeared to be all fresh real food they were amazing! Though at one point I did question how Id fit it in my mouth. Haha. Good food and good times!

So good all the time. I've had about half the menu, but now I'm two and half times the size I was. But it was so good. All I need is blonde hair and I can get a food show too. Just like guy fieri, who had this place on his show. Can't lose going here

Amazing drive-in food!! My husband have been there now twice! Together we've ordered the finger steaks, Monte cristo sandwich, pulled pork burger and the peanut butter burger! Everything has been delicious and of good quality. It's not that nasty greasy fast food you would expect from the looks of the place! The chocolate malt is to die for! The fries and fry sauce are perfect. I definitely recommend this place if your looking for good food that's not your average burger joint!

How I heard of this place: When we checked in to our hotel, I asked the young lady assisting us about food in the area, and her recommendations. She was all too happy to make a number of suggestions, including the original Westside Drive-In on State Street...and its Idaho Ice Cream Potato. Type of cuisine: After dinner with my husband and one of his colleagues, we made our way nearly one mile to the northwest, and the stand-alone establishment that has been entertaining and feeding customers since 1957! Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fries and finger foods, not to mention shakes and malts and all things 50s, Westside Drive-In sure knows how to keep 'em coming back for more. Ambiance: Bright pink, neon lights line the edges of the single-story, stand-alone building in the midst of a seemingly residential neighborhood. A mural of a waitress on roller skates bringing food to a leather-clad man sitting in Grease Lightening adorns the front, the red umbrella-lined patio to the back. A walk-up window, complete with early menu, or drive-thru options exist for patrons of all tastes. What I ordered: The Idaho Ice Cream Potato. What I loved: The novelty. The creativity. The detail in the assembly-line, handmade potato. Why I loved it: It's ice cream...in the shape of a potato! Cost: Low to average ($4 - $8 per sandwich)
We loved the prime rib. We loved the baked potato. The clam chowder was okay. We did not like that one of our bread had a bit of mold. But neither one of us had room in our bellies for anything else. Will definitely come back for the prime rib.

Dont be fooled just because this restaurant was on TV. The only good thing about this place is the large menu and that is pretty overwhelming as it is. I have been there about 6 times because my husband likes the food, but I find it highly greasy, bland, and dirty (you could tell the grill hadn't been cleaned in a while). I love food but I come away unimpressed and feeling gross every time. The food is simple with little to no cooking techniques besides smothering the food in oil, cheese, and fat.

A cute little retro drive-in diner with a patio to enjoy better than average drive-in food. I ordered the fish sandwich, fries, and strawberry shake. I enjoyed it! Probably more than I should have. Also the fry sauce is delightful. Nice, fun atmosphere, and plenty of seating. For a diner, I have to say it's as good as they get! Once I lose the 5 pounds I gained from that huge sandwich, I'm sure I will be back for more.

The Westside seems to be one of those places the people really like, or really don't. Like Fanci Freeze, judt up the road, it's a landmark and a well-known spot for locals. Unfortunately also just like Fanci Freeze it is one of the places in Boise that appeared on Diners Drive-ins and Dives, The Food Network show that I have determined will either make or break an establishment. Luckily the Westside has enough awesomeness to ensure that it will be around for many years to come. The visit I speak of in this instance is the first time that I actually got out of my vehicle and walk to the window to order-their menu is extensive, to the point where I'm not sure I could've made an order from the drive-through without sitting there for 20 minutes open mouth and wide-eyed just trying to take it all in. It was chilly and a bit windy, so I still didn't take as much time as I probably should have-I was also meeting some girlfriends who had to get back to work, so I couldn't dwaddle. I went with one of the daily specials which was a burger with pesto and provolone. It was a marvelous take on what could otherwise be a boring sandwich. The bun they used appeared to be somehow made with corn meal, or at least it was dusted with corn meal, adding just enough of a sweet note to really make the pesto stand out. The burger was not a me to bite affair either but a sandwich the record two hands to properly enjoy. I rounded out my order with a side of their marvelously seasoned tater tots and a diet soda. I understand there is another location for the Westside, and I wonder if that one happens to have any indoor seating. Frankly I think the folks at the Westside could really up their bottom line if folks to get out of the weather to enjoy your food. However since it ain't broke it doesn't need to be fixed. I hope to get back to the Westside on a day when the weather is a bit warmer and I have a bit more time to peruse the menu.

I was disappointed. I got their coffee cooler and it looked like someone threw up in my cup. They handed it to me and said, "We ran out of coffee so we gave you a 10% discount." Probably would've been better to just say they ran out and ask if I would like something else, because I didn't drink it. It was hideous. When I tried stirring it...it oozed. I haven't gone here much but we waited in the drive-thru for a long time only to get a mediocre drink. I've had a good sandwich here so I won't rate it super low.

I really wanted to like this place a whole lot more. As a college student at Boise State a few years ago I tried to frequent it regularly and it was always either really good or really bad. The good: -Portion sizes are good, not too big, not too small. -Fries are seasoned nicely. -Chicken strips are good. The bad: -I've been served fries that have clearly been sitting out for a long time, because they were cold, hard, and yucky. -Their fry sauce. I understand that every place tries to bring their own uniqueness to the menu, but this just doesn't work for me. It tastes more like tarter sauce than fry sauce and they serve it in tiny cups. -They are fairly pricey for a diner.

The fact that Westside Drive-in has been featured on FN's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" means that the place can let itself go the way of "Depressing, Dirty, with the Possibility of Diarrhea". Sunday evening fifteen minutes before closing we drove by, not realizing THIS was the dive, finding it was pretty busy with a $7.99 Fish 'n Chips Sunday special, we decided to order that and a Buffalo Burger. We had initially decided to eat in their outside dining area, which resembled an outdoor market in an overpopulated third world country after a hog calling competition and a free weenie roast, but quickly decided against this. None of the tables had been cleaned: there was food, napkins and plastic cutlery on the ground. And, despite my sargasmic reviews, I've yet to use the word DISGUSTING to describe the sanitary conditions of any restaurant, but it was truly DISGUSTING. All of the customers were (wisely) getting their food through the drive-through and not ordering at the window. My husband said he had come by another time, but also couldn't eat in their dining area because of all the FLIES buzzing around the garbage cans and their food. (And this is where we end up for a quiet Sunday evening meal. Romantico.) The food, however, is very good and reasonable for a drive-through, which is why this is a TWO-STAR REVIEW (vasectomy) and not a total castration. The Buffalo Burger was huge and full of ingredients. My Fish 'n Chips came with two large pieces of cod, with one being battered and cooked perfectly but the other was over-battered and appeared re-fried. The tater tots (and I had asked for french fries - service was nonchalant) were very good for frozen and for $7.99 you get a good portion. Now for the aftermath...of the meal. After having some leftovers of the Fish 'n Chips, hubby is reporting stomach pains. If conditions worsen, I might drop the other star. Stay tuned for an update, after a brief message from our sponsor, Pepto-Bismol...

As Guy from the food network said "it is exactly what you expect from a drive in" and that is pretty fair. The food is all very fried and greasy, which is expected. The service seemed a little hectic between the two lines, one outside and the one in the drive through lane. The person that took our order also did not seem too happy or friendly, which is unfortunate. This place may be historic, but definitely could use a little bit of a remodel, renovation, or perhaps a little better seating outside to protect you from the heat beating off the cement and asphalt. Their big winner here however is the Ice Cream Potato. It is a very cool thing to see, and bring people from out of state here to see. Definitely an item unique to Idaho! It looks exactly like a potato pulled straight from the ground, but in actuality is a hard piece of vanilla ice cream rolled in cocoa powder. I have ordered it a few times, unfortunately this most recent time, it was just pulled straight from the fridge in a clam shell and handed to me apathetically. For 4.00 plus dollars, a little effort on presentation of vanilla ice cream should be reasonable. Opening it up, it was not the sight that I had hyped it up to be to the guest I had brought here. On top of that, we ordered only ice cream, fries and onion rings, and still waited about 15-20 minutes which seemed a bit excessive for items that had to be thrown into a deep fryer. Perhaps this was the wrong time of day, but still was a very hard wait in the heat of the afternoon. Most likely will not return until next summer.

Overall looks like a fun and happening place. Very colorful. Carnival like atmosphere. I've try it a few times and the food is good, just not great. I try something new every time thinking I'm missing something. I will say the people that work there are very friendly and happy your there. I've tryed a few burgers and tots and fries and all were good. What am I missing? Should I be trying something different?

Old-style, neon-everywhere, drive-in "fast food," though not necessarily so fast...Bright pink neon guides you in, and you can either drive through in your car, or park easily and sit at one of the many tables (umbrellas optional.) We had classic diner food - my Tuna Melt and Fries were great! This is a fun place to stop by, and it looked like lots of locals make it their lunch spot. Fun, fun, fun, oh, no "T-bird!" Didn't know it was so well known, but now, we know why!

This place is my current favorite for a quick bite in Boise. The milkshakes are incredible, and the burgers are top notch. The prices are a little high, but that's probably because of the "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" novelty.
(5)

Easily the most overrated burger joint in Boise. We gave this place a half-dozen tries & none of my family members thought the food was anything but bland & mediocre. How it got its reputation is a complete mystery. As for the shakes, you've got to be kidding! Artificial flavors, poor quality ice milk, small container for the price--the worst shake in town. I will say the service is good, but so what? Guy Fieri must be getting payoffs, that's all I can figure. If he'd eaten the food here, he would have had enough gas to blow him back to where he came from.

This place was on Diners, Dives and Drive-ins. That's not why I came here. I had no idea they were on that show nor do I watch that show. I came here because my brother in law who just moved to the area from New Jersey said I MUST try their Monte Cristo. So we did. Six of us ordered 3 full Monte Cristos. The wait is sort of long for a drive through, but hey, they're making it fresh, so no complaints. It's a funny little joint. Drive through windows available on both sides of the place, so you can pay out the passenger side or the drivers side. Also, there's no dine in option really, only patio sitting. So they set up a little tent outside during the winter for people to consume their food in. The Monte Cristo was pretty impressive. Three pieces of bread, lots of cheese, lots of fried everything...honestly, it hurt my tum. But I can't say it was bad...just not my style. I'm sure there are plenty of people who absolutely love this sandwich. I'd like to try their other stuff on my next visit. The Monte Cristo was just too much for me...and my slowing heart that's now fully packed with cholesterol.

Approaching the diner, the place was pretty easy to spot with it's unique colors. There were 2 drive thru lanes which was great. My group decided to park, which didn't seem like there are too many available spots. All of the group ordered the potato ice cream. It is ice cream that is covered in cocoa and topped with whipped cream to imitate the look of a baked potato. IT IS NOT A POTATO. The ice cream was decent and average. This review can change depending on trying more of the menu.

SO GOOD. Came here on my first night in Boise and it's now one of my favorites! SWEET POTATO FRIES dipped in HOMEMADE HONEY BUTTER. That's all I need to say. (But they have a really great veggie burger as well). And the milkshakes are off the chain. Get the Oreo one, but I think they have almost 15 other flavors as well. SO GOOD.

We went here this week after driving by for the last few years. It was busy (always a good sign), we parked and ordered at the counter. The drive-in process looked a little clunky. I ordered the signature ribeye sub and it was amazing! Only got the half size and I am glad I did because I ate it at 1pm and didn't have anything for the rest of the day I was so full. I will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items.

The best chili dog! I haven't eaten here enough to think that it was a "Dive" as an earlier person had put it. My uncle and his wife brought us here and they seem to like it very much. there were five adults in our group and we all ordered something different. We all ate and seemed to enjoy the food. The fries and the "sauce" seem to be a popular signature item for them. Staff was friendly ... it was a late night but, the other customers were all smiling and having a good time as well. I may need a few more times to have a real opinion but, for now with the one experience. I very much enjoyed myself at an ole drive-in!

I heard about this place not long after I got to Boise & knew I had to check it out. I have not eaten a full meal here, but I did enjoy the Ice Cream Baked Potato! It seriously looked so real & my friends could not believe it was actually ice cream when I showed them the picture. It is definitely more about the experience and novelty rather than the taste, though. I have some family coming into town soon & plan to take them by here so they can experience their own ice cream potato!

Visiting Boise area for a week and always on the lookout for a good burger joint. This is your classic drive in and has quite an extensive menu. Tried the bacon cheeseburger combo and thought both the burger and fries were very good. Always appreciate when they have fry sauce. Staff was friendly and efficient. Enjoyed it so much that we went back the following day and I ordered the ham bleu cheese burger combo....just as good as day before.

This is a quaint drive-in type of place. As a local attraction, I see why it may garner the attention that it does; you simply don't find places like this very much any more. The menu seemed to be filled with everything under the sun - from your typical burger selections to spaghetti and meatballs. I tried something called steak strips. Imagine fried clams, but made with strips of beef. It even comes with cocktail sauce. I was not sure what to think of this when I saw it, but the super tender beef and cocktail sauce really was delicious. The place was about a mile's walk from the office I'm working in - which is a good thing so that I could walk off the loads of grease after this lunch.

Great atmosphere. Old school drive in style. Food takes a while to come up, but well worth the wait. I had the standard cheeseburger, fries, and milkshakes. - Cheeseburger: delicious! The bun is thick and fresh. Burger patty is juicy and cooked just right. What really tops the cake, though, is that instead of mayo, ketchup, or mustard, they put fry sauce on the burger! - Fries: well seasoned and quite yummy! Add the fry sauce and I could eat a whole bag full. - Milkshakes: classic. I've tried the strawberry and the marshmallow. Both to die for! The menu is extensive and I look forward to trying out other items in the future!

Had their Valentine's special last night...prime rib, potatoe, salad, roll, and cream puffs. The prime rib was delicious and cooked perfectly. They had run out of baked potatoes by 530 pm so we were a bit bummed about that & frustrated that this was advertised with their special. How do you run out of baked potatoes so early? We got mashed potatoes instead, which were pretty blah & dont compare to real baked potatoes. Also we had to request the cream puffs as they forgot to include them in our bag. Now the cream puffs were AMAZINGGGG! I dreamt about them all night. Wish they were a regular on their menu. All in all, the meal was definitely worth it & its great to have a wonderful prime rib meal that we can eat in the comfort of our home, especially on a busy dining out night like Valentine's Day. Looking forward to next year already! And we will definitely be trying their regular menu items throughout the year.

While visiting Idaho, my boyfriend and I stopped by this place from the recommendation of Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The food was good. I had the meatloaf sandwich. It was moist and not dry at all. Also not overly covered with gravy like some other places do. Their fries were good as well. One basket was enough to feed our group of four. The best thing I loved about this place was they had the Idaho Ice Cream Potato. It was the best novelty ice cream I have ever had. We ended up returning two other times while on our vacation. The service is good. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful. If ever in the area again I will stop by again for some ice cream potato and to try other items on their menu.

After all the hype, we tried it and were greatly disappointed. Main real turnoff are the gazillion flies buzzing a round the outdoor area where you eat. Had the finger steaks, but found them to be too fat laden with the deep-fried batter on them. Tater tots were good though. Didn't find the food much different than a lot of other fast food places.

Saw the show that guy did and we were expecting better food than what we got. The prime rib was well done. We had ordered it medium rare. The potato and salad it came with was ok. The finger steaks were all batter. I couldn't really taste the meat inside. The curly fries were the best part of the meal. The biggest problem however, was all the flies buzzing around us. They were landing on the food, and we were under attack the whole time we were there. We rushed to eat and got out of there. They should put up a screen tent, and some bug zappers.

Came here on the second stop of my Tour de Shake: In search of the best shake in B-town. I ordered my usual chocolate/peanut butter shake and didn't find my socks rocked as I've previously reported. I don't know if they've changed something--but it tasted neither chocolaty enough nor peanut buttery enough. I suppose that sounds vague--but, you know that certain something that makes a shake go from a-ok to fist pump, knuckle bump Mmmm-hmmm fantastic? You know that thing? Yeah...it was missing that. My dining companion ordered their shake of the day, which was a mix of vanilla, raspberries, and candied coconut. He reported it solid, though not fantastic. Their shakes ARE thick. I'll give 'em that much. And, their flavors are many and varied; and, they'll mix any number of flavors into the shake of your choice. But, overall, nothing to go all Sally Albright in the diner about.

This is one of my favorite parts to living in Boise. Quality really yummy food with a vast selection that can please everyone in your vehicle. AND..... AND.......they give you fortune cookies!!!!! That is a total favorite thing of mine :D.I seriously have no idea how anyone could complain about this place. I've been here dozens of times ( mostly getting the veggie sand.... which is ginormous and although vegetarian.. FAR from light in calories being slathered in cream cheese. avocado, and pesto)....plus, they have fun treats! Thank you for making Boise better, West Side!

To bad I had to give this a low rating, this place has been here for years. My wife and I went there each of us had a hamburger and fries and a medium drink and it cost almost 22 dollars.Come on this is a drive in. for that kind of money I could have gone to a really good sit down restaurant and had a really nice meal.I don't mind paying that kind of money for really good food but I'm here to tell you both of us got sick on the fries because the oil was old and hamburgers had a weird taste to it like the lettuce had chemical taste to it I really didn't think it was possible to screw up a simple order like a hamburger and fries and a drink but I guess they did. I won't be back.

Guy Fieri led me here, and honestly, I was kind of expecting something a little better. Don't get me wrong, Westside Drive-in wasn't bad, it just didn't reach expectations. Service was great. We were getting food for about 15 people, so we called our order ahead. The time quoted was only like 15-20 minutes, and everything was ready when we pulled up. I got the finger steaks, apparently a Boise special, and I liked them. They were a little greasy though. Some kicked up marinara comes on the side for dipping, and that was awesome. The fries were pretty good, and while random, the garlic bread that came with the dinners was alright. Because I'm a sucker for novelty things, I got the ice cream potato, and it was actually really good. There aren't a ton of options for vegetarians. My sister was being really picky, so she ended up getting a salad. They do have garden burgers, veggie focaccia, fish and chips (for the pescetarians), etc. The buffalo fries were slightly messy, but oddly addicting. We got way more food than expected, so definitely be aware that portions can be generous even though this doesn't seem to be the case for previous reviewers. We stopped by on a slow Wednesday night, so maybe that's why. I wish we could have tried the prime rib, but that's only offered on Fridays Saturdays. Also they offer a 10% senior (60+) discount everyday which is great if you go with an old person (for me, it was my dad). The menu is a jumbled mess/could use a redesign, but this place is worth a try.

The Westside Drive-in is a Boise oasis of delectable and outstanding food selections. 5 star food in a '50-'60 style drive-in. Who would have thought? Prime Rib, French Dips and glorious burgers. Choice upon choice of amazing meals. This is a must for your visiting relatives and friends. Where can you drive though and get a scrumptious Prime Rid dinner? Drive in, Dives and Diners was right on the mark featuring this Boise landmark.

This is an assuming old drive-in that truly thinks outside the box. I like to congratulate the owners for not only avoiding the temptation of cutting corners when it comes to quality ingredients, but also for setting even more higher standard than common wisdom dictates. Here, KOBE beef is what's offered on their Black and Blue burger. Outstanding taste, including the garnish of spicy satay veggies.

My favorite thing about Westside is the service. They have a genuinely nice, capable staff who has never made a mistake on my order. They are also one of the few places that actually serves Idaho bakers in town, it's amazing how many of our potatoes here are from out-of-state! Their food hits the spot, I wouldn't call it gourmet-but it's exactly what I would expect a drive-in to serve. Plus, they serve so many extra items that it really makes them stand out. You might pay a couple of bucks more, but I don't think you can find a better drive-thru burger in that neck of the woods. I'll be back, maybe even tonight!

Guy Fieri still has not wowed me with his pallette as shown through Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives - this is the third Boise institution I've tried based on his reviews and, well, I wasn't really impressed. I really wanted to be, too, especially after seeing the way that prime rib was done... This is truly an old-timey drive in. You either go through the drive through, or park, order, and eat at the tables set up in front of the stand. One thing I think they could definitely improve on is announcing your order - I was only a few tables away and reading some news, but I couldn't hear them calling my order number for the life of me. Lucky it was just the salad, but it would've sucked if it was hot food getting cold 'cause I didn't hear my number. I wasn't the only one to almost miss my food - I paid more attention after I received my salad. If you're going to give numbers and have people sitting outside, maybe it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to just bring the food out? I dunno... you DO have people bussing tables... just a thought! As for the food, I just HAD to get the prime rib. I love trying out new things - and a prime rib dinner at a drive-in - definitely a new experience. Here's the breakdown: For $14.95, you pretty much get the whole shebang - salad, baked potato, dinner roll, and of course the prime rib with au jus and horseradish. You also get a fortune cooked - odd, but eh... whatever. The salad was pretty gross - bagged salad, not a great Italian dressing (probably premade stuff out of a bottle). For being a Chef, I would think that Chef Lou would at least want quality ingredients for the first "course"... Things were hit and miss from that point on. I enjoyed the potato - the skin was seasoned and added a nice bit of flavor to the chives and dollup of sour cream atop the potato. The dinner roll was soft and sweet - not much more to say about that. The prime rib was decent - a bit more fatty than what I'm used to. But it was cooked to a nice medium rare as I ordered. It wasn't the melt-in-your-mouth experience I usually get with HOPR back home, but with the au jus and horseradish, it was still okay. Actually, the au jus was a bit salty - careful if you're salt sensitive! I'm not sure how Guy Fieri chugged that au jus... sodium overload!!! Would I come here again? Maybe. I would definitely go for something else besides the Prime Rib, though...

Went here yesterday for lunch. I had the Blue & Orange burger in honor of the Boise St. Football team. Tons of blue cheese & orange hot wing sauce. Their fries are excellent & they are served with a tasty fry sauce. My friend had the meatloaf sandwich & she liked it except for the copious amounts of onions on it. We both got large sodas & I think medium would be big enough next time. Pepsi products, Dr. Pepper & Diet Dr. Pepper on tap here. The seating area has a heated tent to eat in.

Tried it for the first time and everything we had was bland, tough, or tasteless... except for the tater tots. I was told it was delicious so I didn't mind paying the expensive prices but I will not be going back. I was surprised to find it had been on DDD, it did not live up to that reputation today. The ribs were tough & cheap tasting, the potato salad was far too mustardy, the coleslaw was sour, the chicken guac sandwich was tasteless except for the guac (which still tasted blah), & the Huckleberry 'Heaven' was pretty much foul & just tart. VERY DISAPPOINTED. $25 lunch that was pretty much all thrown away -we were still very hungry afterwards since we didn't actually eat anything...it was a waste of our money.

We tried this place because of DDD and Guy F.'s endorsement. We were sadly disappointed!! We ordered 2 of the sunday specials (fish and chips and a curry chicken pecan salad) and a side of steak fingers since we saw those being made on the show and looked good. So here's the rundown: The fish and the steak fingers had waaaay too much batter and not enough fish/steak. They were very dark in color and extremely greasy which lead me to believe they were re-fried from earlier (twice fried). Some places do it to be fast but there was nobody else behind us so it seems like laziness on part of the kitchen. There was just so little meat and too much icky over fried batter that we had to peel off the batter to get to the fish and we did the same for the steak. Seasoning in the steak finger breading was off, I think it was too much oregano. Now for the other special of the day the salad. It was just plain OLD. The romaine was extremely old not to the point of being slimy but it was disgustingly brown as if it had sat out all day. It wasn't just one odd piece that snuck in. No it was the whole thing! Just plain LAZY from the kitchen. So I took the salad back. The gentlemen was very polite and wonderfully accommodating and offered to refund us some and offered some gratis ice cream. This is the only reason for the one star, in appreciation of the good service! I elected to get a meat loaf sandwich. Oh man. The meatloaf was so thin it was like the thickness of shaved gyro meat. There were a lot of spices in it And there were two slivers yay me. It was greasily heated up on the grill. Then had some weird ketchupy red pepper sauce on top, lots of iceberg, tomato slices, cheddar and then slapped between bread. But not just some regular toasted bread but greasy Texas toast garlic bread! Ugh. This thing was so over killed I couldn't even tell it had meat on it. We will give it one last try for the Prime rib.... This place was just so disappointing.

Delicious! An elegant menu with a fast food atmosphere and pizazz! I suggest the Monte Kristo, a little crunchy but is extremely delicious. They have a huge heated tent in the winter so no need to wait till summer!

Since we were heading for Boise, my husband and i decided to try this place because we saw it on diners, drive ins, and dives! He had a cheeseburger and i had the monte cristo with fries. They were pretty good. Make sure to get your fries with "french fry sauce"... yummmmm!!! After our meal i got the idaho icecream potato. It did not fail to amaze me with how delicious it tasted!! It was sooo cute too shaped like a potato and everything.

No matter the overall impression of the place, credit should be given for the vast array of options offered. It's nice to be given restaurant options like prime rib in a casual (albeit upscale for a drive-in) setting. As such, it took me awhile to feel comfortable offering a review until I had enough of the offerings here. Burgers-- hit and miss. I've had better success with standard-condiment burgers like the special deluxe over their fancier options. The Maui burger didn't impress me, and the Cajun burger was downright inedible. Whatever seasoning they put on it was nasty. The standard ones aren't among the best in the city, but they're above average. French Fries-- very disappointing. With the amount of thought and effort put into a vast menu like theirs, offering up the cheap crap that they serve is inexcusable. The onion rings are an improvement, large and not the greasebombs I was expecting. But if you have to go for a side, go for the sweet potato fries. It's worth the extra money that they charge, and the fry sauce it comes with (seemingly some brown sugar concoction) makes it oh-so-good. I wish a lot more burger joints would offer sweet potato fries. Finger Steaks-- good, although I'll admit I never had any until I moved to Boise. They were greasier than I expected though. Worth noting was that I've had it twice there, and I got a lot more finger steaks on my first visit than second. So mileage may vary as far as how many you get. Fish & Chips-- awful. Shouldn't it be a tipoff that something could be amiss since they only serve this on Sundays, i.e. the day of the week when fish that is sold will usually be at its least fresh? Why not do this on a day when a fish market will be open so you can get fresh(er) fish to serve? It reeks of them buying older fish on the cheap from some supplier. Anyway I already mentioned my opinion of the fries, and they're not the right kind of fries for fish and chips anyway. The fish was just as bad, and maybe worse. It became a soggy mess quite quickly upon adding malt vinegar. And the taste wasn't there. I've yet to find good fish and chips in the area, and this was as bad as a Long John Silver's offering. French Dip-- The au jus had some kick to it, but the sandwich looked like it was designed for the stomach of a five-year old. It was eye-poppingly tiny. I felt ripped off, and I can only assume that their other dips are the same size. Pepsi Ribs-- tastewise it's an alright change of pace from your standard BBQ ribs, but nothing more than that. The quality of the meat deteriorated on my second order, so I'm hesitant to order again. And I don't think you get enough of it for what you pay. Prime Rib-- I had been curious, but seeing the preparation put into it on Guy Fieri's show made my mouth water. I pretty much agree completely with Stanton's review. My cuts have been a little fattier than I'd hoped. But they were cooked perfectly to my preference both times. And the taste, though not mindblowing, was really good for $15 including sides. The potato it came with was great, but the salad was cheap and awful, not really any better than what comes out of Dole's cheap salad mix. Once in awhile in the Statesman, there are coupons for $2 off. It's only served on Fridays and Saturdays. Club Foccaccia-- if there's anything I'd go back for on a regular basis, it would be this. Tasty and quite large. Shakes-- maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn't think they were any big deal. With Moon's in relatively close proximity, I'd recommend getting shakes there instead. Ice Cream Potato-- It has NO potato elements in it! I wasn't quite sure about that either. It just looks like a potato, with ice cream and "potato skin" that has cocoa powder on it. Creative and quite delectable. I'm guessing it's made elsewhere and shipped in, but it doesn't even matter if that's the case. As others have noted, it's quite pricey for a drive-in. So choose wisely.

We stopped by here on a recent trip to Boise. My daughter loves to find restaurants featured on Diners, drive ins and dives. I had the special blue cheese jalapeno burger. It was delicious. A perfectly cooked thin burger with blue cheese and jalapenos (obviously), a drizzle of buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles and some of their special fry sauce. My daughter had a hot dog and fries. It was great food! Would go back.

Like many other reviewers, I saw this place on the show Diners, Drive- ins and Dives. Let me begin by saying that the service was very good. The staff was very friendly, and the service was quick. Unfortunately, this was the best part of my experience. I went there for lunch today with my girlfriend. We stood there for a while and perused the extensive menu. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries, and my girlfriend ordered their cajun chicken sandwich and onion rings with a peanut butter/chocolate milkshake. My burger tasted alright, but it was TINY. Seriously, the thinnest patty I think I've ever gotten, a bit of shredded lettuce, tomato and cheese. the fries were alright, a bit cold but seasoned well. My girlfriend on the other hand, was NOT impressed. The onion rings were AWFUL. The batter was way too thick and the onions inside were not cooked at all. Her sandwich was drenched in spices, to the point that it was inedible. I like spices as much as the next person, but if you can't even taste the other ingredients (i.e. the chicken) its overkill. She took a few bites and sat there while I finished my lunch. I took her plate back up to the counter with the intention of letting them know that it was unsatisfactory. The server asked what was wrong, and when I told him, he gave me a complete refund for her meal. It was very nice of him, and I really appreciated it, hence giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. Overall, I must say I am surprised that Guy endorsed this place. Even more disappointing is the fact that this place has a CHEF, not a fry cook. In my humble opinion, this place did not live up to any of the hype, and we will not return.

I have to admit that I had seriously low expectations for the Westside, especially in order to counter the mild celebrity-chef hype and cheesy decorations, but after eating there a half dozen times, I have to admit that this is one of my favorite places in Boise. After trying their flat out incredible milkshakes, I've even started to love the decor. The thing that gets me about this place is the clever attention to detail -- the "focaccia" sandwiches are actually served on an onion roll, and the "relish" on the Greek burger is actually a lovely fresh tomato and feta salad. Classing it up or down like that was a big surprise to me and made me think that they put more thought into their food than you'd think. Also, they serve their (awesome) sweet potato fries with a side of cinnamon frosting. What's not to love?

I got terrible food poisoning here. I should have known better after having a lackluster breakfast burrito and an overpriced fruit cup. But I gave it a second chance and had a turkey club. Does not taste better coming back up.

The drive-in concept is always fun, but the food was nothing more than ordinary. I expected it to be much better considering it was featured on Triple D's with Guy Fieri. I do recommend the Idaho Ice Cream Potato though! That was a fun little treat, and it can definitely fool you.

Went there because of some of the reviews I saw. The place is OK. Not a 5 star rating. prices not bad depending on what you order. We haven't tried the Prime rib dinner yet. Don't know if we will. If I want a prime rib dinner, I will go the a place that is not a drive in restaurant. Finger steaks are OK. Burgers OK.... Just an OK place to eat. You can tell this place has been a neighborhood go-to place for many decades.

Saw this place on diners dives and drive-ins and was pretty excited to try it. Overall a pretty underwhelming experience. My Montecristo was okay, but nothing at all special. My wife's chili cheese spud was also just okay, and with a hair in it. Did not live up to the hype at all.

Fresh, quality ingredients for the most part but still just average food. We had the mushroom burger and the bacon cheese burger, with fries. The mushrooms looked and tasted fresh and sauteed on the spot, the bacon was thick and juicy, the shredded iceberg on both burgers was crisp and plentiful, and the cheeses were real cheddar and (I believe) provolone. The buns were soft and seemingly homemade, on the verge of falling apart but they held together just well enough. As a nice little bonus surprise, we each got a fortune cookie with our meals too. However, the patties seemed premade-prefrozen and were kind of thin and flavorless. The fries were heavily seasoned (I liked that, but it might not suit those who are used to plain fries) and I'm not too sure they offer ketchup here. Fry sauce was on the burgers and offered in containers with the fries in place of any of the other usual condiments. I like fry sauce, but again it might not suit everyone. The chocolate shake my fiance ordered was just okay. If the flavor of the burgers and shake had been better and you weren't just paying extra for quality ingredients on uninspired food I'd probably give them a 4, but I'd still eat here again in the future.

I honestly loved this place! When I was on the plane flying to Boise I asked some native Idahoians where I should eat and the first place they recommended was here. Right after I got my flight my bf and I drove over here and it was about to close. The service was great. Since I was a newbie, I asked for a recommendation and he suggested the bacon cheeseburger and that the mushroom swiss was a popular choice as well. Since I love mushroom and onion and swiss burgers I had to give it a try and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Once I opened my wrapper the cheese literally oozed out. The bread was really fresh considering I came when it was about to close and the meat was very well cooked. The only thing I didn't like too much was that the onions weren't grilled all the way but that's because I don't really like raw onions. I also washed it down with a blueberry milkshake and it was soo good. I've never had a flavor like that and there were definitely many options. It was very creamy and rich but you could still clearly taste the blueberry. All in all, I wish I was in Boise longer so I can try more things on their extensive menu. It's a really cute drive in and the food is great!

Ok, I DON'T want to know how many calories that I consumed. Saw this place on Diners and so when I was in Boise I just HAD to go and sample the food. Sample is not what I did, I ate like a KING except I had to pay for my own food. haha. I can't wait to go back to Boise.

Perhaps like others mentioned, this place is killed by the hype. if it werent for all the publicity, perhaps the reviews would be more favorable. that being said, I enjoyed my food here, but nothing stand out and i am not craving it like i would a boise-fry co or a big judds burger. If i am craving a massive amount of greasey calories and am in the area, this would be a good option, but i wouldnt specifically choose this place as a destination. the portions are huge, i got a double cheeseburger and a small fries, and lets just say it was a struggle to put a big dent in it.

Read about this place and had to try it out. Really glad that I did. The patty melt is amazing, the tater tots were perfect, and the service was exceptional! I sat outside in the sun and took it all in. This is a classic drive in and I will return.

A Must Do Dine in Boise! I love that the guy running this place is sort of a foodie who has taken to heart great American fast food. While the place serves up about 1000 cal per mouthful, you're getting good old-fashioned soda shop *real* food, not McDonald's faux food. The chef has clearly thought out how to make a great hot chocolate, a great fish and chips, a great burger, etc. I travel a lot and I have to have tater tots every time I'm in town (just once because I don't want to lose my slim silhouette) and this is where I have them. I absolutely adore the heated tent they've added out front so you can dine there in the winter ever so snugly.

Ordered 2 giant BLT's, and 2 large fries. Cost me 24 dollars. Got home, and each of the sandwiches had 2 pieces of bacon on them, one tomato, and an entire head of lettuce. Food tasted good, but for the ridiculous price, I would have thought some bacon on the sandwiches would have been appropriate!

Having recently moved to Boise, and more specifically very close to this drive-in, I was very excited to try this much talked about local establishment. I left with the impression that, while good enough for your average Saturday hamburger, they seem to be teetering on the edge of becoming a low class drive-in. We ordered the super deluxe, Philly cheese steak, turkey and swiss, curly fries, and cheese fries. Everything we ordered seemed to have good quality ingredients, but the flavor seemed to lack any punch. It was also fairly expensive, but that's to be expected at a drive-in that's supposedly run by a genuine chef. The menu is very large and varied, and I haven't yet tried their ice-cream selection, but all in all The West Side drive in failed to live up to its hype. Perhaps if they had a full bar...

Everything that I have ever eaten here is bad! Come on Chef Lou, are you kidding me? The only thing I have had here that was decent was a shake. The burgers are horrible, tasteless and soggy...every time! Tonight was the last time, I will go to Sonic instead!

I didn't eat anything here other than the Idaho Ice Cream Potato, but it's worth going for that. Not only is it fun cause it's ice cream that looks like a baked potato, it's actually good. It's vanilla ice cream covered in cocoa powder with whipped cream and some chocolate shavings. The other food actually looked pretty good though, in that bad food kind of way.

It's a drive in. I had the prime rib just because where else could you get a prime rib thru a drive in? It was good. Not Ruth's Chris steakhouse good but drive in and you could have a burger or the prime rib good. I'd go again.

The frozen, prepared meals are prepared primarily of salt, with a few other spices added in to hide the taste of anything that resembles food. We certainly won't order those meals again.

I thought this place was a real dive when I drove by it last year. I saw the potato ice cream and thought how stupid is that. Saw it on food network and gave it a try. Although it is a dive, the burgers were great and the milkshakes were tasty. Never tried the potato ice cream because it sounds terrible.

Ate here Sunday....like other comments below...we came based on DDD and Guy F. as well as "Best of in Boise". Like most everyone else...service was very good, but it ended there....burger for my wife was extremely thin and burned, not chared, but burned. I had a Monte Cristo sandwich....worst one I've ever eaten. Way too much breading and it was close to burned, but smelled like fish from something earlier. Fries were not good, not even close to 5 Guys or Smashburger fries. Even McDonalds fries are better. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed. We won't be going back, not worth the trip to get sub par food.

Over rated. The food has gone down hill over the years but Boise keeps on voting this fast food joint the best. Go figure. The food is over rated and the outside dining is a dump. For my money the Viking Drive In rules.

Was hoping for more but was happy enough. Huge yummy onion rings. The kids mac-n-cheese was very good. Had some kind of roast beef sandwich with mushroom sauce. Was dry and lacking something. Salad was ok but they put wrong dressing in to go box. Like the diverse menu. Would give it another shot.

This place gets rave reviews on Judysbook and Citysearch. Also the local events mag hyped it up, so we went all excited to check it out. Sorry to say it was a bit of a disappointment. I would like to come back and try other things on the menu, but the meal we had wasn't all that great. We both got burgers and I ordered medium fries and a chocolate shake. The cheeseburger was WAY overloaded with shredded lettuce. I should have removed most of it. The meat seemed like ready-made-pre-formed frozen stock. It was dry and well done. The fries were the super-seasoned kind (think curly fries-type seasoning), where I just wanted plain fries. Those come ready-made frozen in a box too. I'm not crazy about In-and-Out, but at least they take a fresh potato, slice it up and make fresh fries. The shake was not authentic, and came from a soft-serve ice-milk machine and they just dump in liquid flavoring. It was a little better than a McDonalds shake, but nowhere near a hand-dipped ice cream and milk shake. The price was great, two of us ate for less than $10.00. But afterward and for the rest of the day I felt bloated and like I had a lead ball in my stomach. So far I have not found a better combo of shake (hand made w/Ghirardelli chocolate), burger (fresh beef w/Tillamook cheese), and fries (big pile and delicious) than at Johnny Rockets. OK, round two for Westside. Hungry for 50's drive-in style food, we went again. This time I got the focaccia turkey club, which once again had 400lbs of lettuce. I promptly removed it. Wife got the potato ice-cream novelty dessert. The club was just OK, but the focaccia bread was unlike any I've ever seen. It was more like a kaiser role with some herbs. Pretty lame if you ask me. The ice cream thing was pretty cool (made to look like a baked potato) and actually was very tasty. Chalk *one* up for them. So after two visits. I'd say we're done with this place. Forget the hype, there must be better food elsewhere, like that other 50's-style drive in up the street on State!!!

Definitely going against the Yelp crowd on this one. After suffering a youth sustained on road trips and road trip grub, I feel like I have some experience when it comes to drive-ins like this, and I found the Westside exceptional. I chose to test its reputation (no doubt boosted by Guy's visit, attracting pilgrims like myself) with a simple cheeseburger. It was flavorful, well balanced, with a good, toasted bun. Dad picked up the Philly special, which at the time was a little much for my lingering tonsilitis, but I downed a small sample of it and found it all kinds of tasty. The bacon is somewhat overwhelming, but it's so hard to complain about generous layers of bacon on anything. The onion rings were good, the fries average, and the chocolate malt quenching and, well, malty. It's somewhat odd that Westside is embedded in the middle of a neighborhood. I'd have expected it on the edge of a highway, or in the center of the city, but it sits cozily and humbly amongst a residential copse of trees serving out gratifyingly destructive food. It's a shame this was a one-way stop. The menu is packed with foods I'd love to try, like the Pepsi marinated ribs, or the prime rib. But it left a big enough impression that the road trip in the opposite direction come Fall will definitely accomodate a side-trip to visit and fill up at the Westside Drive-in again.

(5)Jeff B.
So good all the time. I've had about half the menu, but now I'm two and half times the size I was. But it was so good. All I need is blonde hair and I can get a food show too. Just like guy fieri, who had this place on his show. Can't lose going here
(5)Heidi D.
Yummy! Triple is always right on....got the bacon burger, worth the wait time.
(5)Kerisa K.

(3)Caroline T.
Pros: Huge selection of food, fair prices, 50s drive-in atmosphere Cons: Huge grease bucket
(3)Ladylyn H.

(2)Jackie Y.

(2)Jessica L.
(3)Melissa O.
Great ice cream in an old school drive in setting! And the flavor choices are endless!

(2)Chris H.
(3)Cheryl N.
(3)Spenser J.
This place is my current favorite for a quick bite in Boise. The milkshakes are incredible, and the burgers are top notch. The prices are a little high, but that's probably because of the "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" novelty.
(5)Ray N.

(4)Christopher D.
(3)Jenifer K.
I have been here a million times, but this time I tried the club sandwhich. There was off the bone meat on the sandwhich and the veggies were so fresh. It was really good. I would recommend the club.
(4)R C.
Had the Fried Egg Burger. Made me more than happy :0). Very friendly staff and quick delivery of food. Will return soon.
(4)E B.
My favorite drive-in, good selection of good food, great shakes/malts, priced fare, and nice fast service. Wife and I eat here when in the area.
(5)Chloe R.
SO GOOD.
(5)Michael B.
(4)Tonya P.
(4)Justin C.
I went here because it was featured on diner and dives by Guy. Had a great seating area covered by umbrellas. I had the jalapeño blue cheese burger and it was awesome.
(4)Meghan H.
(4)Chris M.
(4)Justin P.
Chef Lou is my hero. I love this place, and even though I've moved far away, I make trips back for the Lasagne, Prime Rib and even the burgers and shakes every now and then.
(5)Yosuke M.
(3)Sarah H.

So good. Fast service and delicious Reuben is So So good!!!
(5)Greg S.
(4)Leslie A.
(4)Carl Y.
(1)Sylvia H.
(1)Ophelia M.
(3)Kirsten V.
(5)Troy H.
Diners, Drive In's and Dives visited this place and featured it on an episode. Great food. Great staff. I can see why triple d visited this place.
(4)Dave S.
(2)Mariah V.
(3)Derek V.
Drive through prime-rib.... What's up! It is good. I like this place for its convenience. and food options.

(5)Yewondwossen A.
(5)Sheila S.
Great food on the go! Best Peanut Ginger chicken Salad in the WEST~ Love the old school theme of the drive in too! If you haven't eaten here, I would recommend it!
(4)Sheila W.

(3)Kevin M.

My husband and I ate here for the first time today. Seriously amazing finger steaks and burger. The food was delicious, pricey but amazing. We will come again, can't wait to try more of the menu.

Food was good prices were ok.

Everything that I have ever eaten here is bad! Come on Chef Lou, are you kidding me? The only thing I have had here that was decent was a shake. The burgers are horrible, tasteless and soggy...every time! Tonight was the last time, I will go to Sonic instead!
(2)Jav V.
(4)Ken D.
It's a drive in. I had the prime rib just because where else could you get a prime rib thru a drive in? It was good. Not Ruth's Chris steakhouse good but drive in and you could have a burger or the prime rib good. I'd go again.
(3)Guy H.
The frozen, prepared meals are prepared primarily of salt, with a few other spices added in to hide the taste of anything that resembles food. We certainly won't order those meals again.
(2)Angela W.
large menu. very greas, but hey what do u expect its a drive in?
(3)Doug D.

(2)Steve M.
Over rated. The food has gone down hill over the years but Boise keeps on voting this fast food joint the best. Go figure. The food is over rated and the outside dining is a dump. For my money the Viking Drive In rules.
(2)Summer O.
