Stop. Hammer Time. Great coffee, friendly staff, great location.

My husband and I come here pretty much weekly and it's become our new favorite coffee place. The store is in a great location, is always very clean and bright, and the specialty drinks taste amazing. The baristas really know their stuff, and we especially like coming on Sundays to grab an iced jack hammer and iced carmanilla (or try any of their other unique combinations) from our favorite barista. Beware of the crowds on Saturdays during the market, which can make the line very long, and because they take their time to make drinks right, the line moves slow. But the drinks are always worth the wait, and the free WiFi helps. This is a great place with high quality coffee!

Delicious coffee; had the El Diablo and a cold brew during my two visits and could not have been more pleased. The staff working both times were friendly and offered up suggestions of places to go during my brief trip to Boise. Great open space, free wifi, metered parking right out front and non-metered within a few blocks. Recommend if you are in the area!

This is one of the better coffee shops in Boise. They have a cool vibe and are a nice part of town. The store is clean, customer service is good, and their drinks are made well! I also like that they have a variety of gluten free snacks available!

Love their variety of flavors. Jack Hammer my favorite so far. Great location for Saturday market.

This was my second trip to Thomas Hammer (living in Philadelphia, I don't get to Boise often, though it's on the wish list!). So....on a gorgeous afternoon, my friend and I scooted in to refresh with coffee. I love the simple decor (the "hammer" is great!), and the fact that there's not much to distract from enjoying a cup of well-made coffee with a friend. Not much food to go with the "joe," but that's ok, since they're a coffee shop, after all! Bright large windows, lots of seating, and baristas who seem to care about what they're creating. Second time, but not the last!

A great, large, coffee shop in the downtown boise area. Close the the capital and other things down town. Lots of seating, even a quiet room. There is also an honor bar, for a cup of coffee during busy times! If you want tea - which after lunch is my beverage of choice, you pick your bag to the right, give it to the fella/barista tell them what size and then they fill it with hot water! I liked the vibe!

I love the streamlined approach for getting coffee and drinks but stay away from the bakery and burritos!

If you look through my reviews you will see that I have some comments under Dawson's which is just across the street since my first cup at Hammer's. I will have to chop it up to the barista that made my first cup their. I wish I would have caught her name because she can make an awesome, absolutely shocking Mocha. Every person since failed miserably, one honestly tasted like an ash tray in my cup. They have little consistency between cups other than a cappy cuppa. I had to go back to Dawson's since I have yet to find better coffee in Boise. I am still looking.

Great Coffee, but that doesn't matter if they don't let you pay for it. My husband recently left this coffee shop empty handed after they refused both his American Express and Discover Cards. I have a problem with local businesses who dictate how their customers pay. No American Express or Discover Card accepted? How does a business not accept two of the four major credit cards? We visit this coffee shop every Sunday, and at least once or twice during the week. Figure 10 visits a month at an average of $15-$20 a visit (we have two kids so four drinks and snacks). That's over $2000 a year that they just ran off. I hate to do it, but I have to support my husbands boycott.

Black coffee is the true test for this coffee addict. After a grande drip, I'd say PASS! Great coffee, full bodied and nutty. Original latte combinations looked really tempting. Virtually no food ...so go for coffee. ( IE. see review of The Chocolat Bar or City Peanut Shop...both make great contenders for a coffee compliment and are within walking distance). Staff was proud of their coffee and quick on service. Ambiance was somewhat generic. But it works. No big cozy chairs. - Would make an easy spot for an impromptu business meeting. -

I like their coffee but something seems a little off about the ambiance to me. Maybe it just isn't enough of a hangout spot, or maybe it's the generic music? I expect something kind of quirky with coffee shops and this isn't it. On the other hand, I've set up shop in here for work before and I really love the fact that there are power strips for laptops against the windows. It's also pretty quiet (outside of the aforementioned music) so it's easy to concentrate. The seating is comfortable for those of us in it for the long haul, but I have had some serious trouble getting the internet to stay on all the time. When I'm working via ssh connection, that's especially inconvenient. Overall, my complaint with this place is the same as it is with a number of places for coffee in Boise: WHY does it close so early? Shouldn't a city with a university in the middle of it be rife with 'til-midnight-or-later coffee shop options??

Ooooo what a fancy little (sorta) coffeshop! Great prices and great internets and bright, open seating area with super-duper patio. The gal that was working when I came in was incredibly friendly and engaging. I definitely love this place. Free WiFi and a mere $1 min on the credit cards

I have been a huge THCR fan since college (at EWU) and the first time I went to the Boise location was about 2007. It was December and I found myself downtown enjoying the wares of the Saturday Farmer's Market. After wandering around for a while I was in need of a warm beverage and THCR was a beacon of happiness. I spent a few hours there enjoying their delicious coffee and getting some work done on the laptop. The shop here is great with lots of open space and seating, including a little side room if you need to bring the coworkers down for 'work coffee'. Every time I visit Boise now, I try to stop in and savor one of my favorite coffee roasters.

Best baristas in Boise. The people manning the espresso machine know what they're doing, and the quality control is high. Better foam and taste than other drinks I've had in Boise. They're also quick and seem happy to make whatever modifications you'd like. Small pasty selection, but the lemon-poppyseed bread, shortbread cookies, and no-bake cookies are awesome. A little pricey, but in line with everyone else in Boise. In addition, it's quiet inside and a great place to coffee, infinitely free refills on brewed coffee, and $1 cups of joe in the morning. I love the customer service there. High praise for the hammer.

We went in the late morning to get a quick cup of coffee. There was no line and the service was very good, and very fast. Thomas and Hammer have some special coffees that are unique to them only. Some of them are very sweet, but all of them are tasty.

This is one of my favorite downtown coffee venues. They have a variety of traditional, blended, and non-coffee drinks which is good when hanging out with a non-coffee drinking crowd. A variety of seating options for everyone from the laptop mobile worker crowd to the lounging and chatting crowd. The "Bored Room" is a little conference room you can reserve for small groups, which has been really useful for some of the non-profits I work with. The staff is friendly and most importantly good at making coffee drinks. They also serve a variety of breakfast items and pastries.

I tried my hardest to not look like a heroin addict as I approached the barista with my order, probably about to be stuttering out of my mouth with complimentary spit as I get tongue twisty before my espresso shots. Yes coffee is my crack, boys amd girls. The atmosphere made me think I was hanging out in San Francisco. Very nice baristas, very clean. The decor is contemporary, fun and subtle. And my vanilla soy latte rocked my world.... I was now lovin' the world.... but with alertness.

You will want to hate this place, but the coffee is just so damned good.
