If you are in Boise just to visit, work related, or even live in Boise, this is the place to go to. Overall, the food, friendly service, and atmosphere is phenomenal. It is great to experience a great restaurant within downtown Boise. Let's start off with the food. The food is very spot on. Their salad and specials are on point. Not cover too much with sauce and doesn't feel like you've eaten something overly greasy. They have a creative way to blend the flavored onto the fish which makes me want to come here repeatedly. Service is also a great way of them greeting you. From the front door the hostess already greets you with a smile and creates a good vibe. The service at the tables are also fast as well for having few waiters at the restaurant. Atmosphere is great as well with the tables and chairs set up with enough space from other people. Very modern and Boise level is not very loud with a higher roof top. This is a great choice of many. I would say great job to this wonderful restaurant and will keep coming to their creative new taste!

Darn good, even though I was there as part of a big party, never the best way to judge a place. The apps were very good, shoe string potatoes very good, hey you had to have some taters in Idaho. The skirt steak I had was good, not amazing but good. The others at my table all had organic salmon and the sauce for that looked very good, they were all raving about it. They had a lemon pie for desert that was outstanding. Overall this is a great place.

"Slap your Mamma" good food here. It's definitely 'fancy' food in a comfortable setting. We brought an out of town guest, and our two year old daughter. Both left full and happy. Ling cod, braised beef cheeks, sous vide pork tenderloin, along with oyster and lamb belly starters off the special sheet. It was damn fine cooking, and really great service. Our server brought over an Idaho potato Spuddy Buddy stuffed toy for my daughter as soon as we sat down...a power move to appease a hungry toddler. Oh, and dessert. Order dessert. Lavender pound cake french toast topped with honey ice cream? Yeah. You'll want to elbow people to get them to back off your dessert. May or may not have happened with me...can't really comment on that what with the protection order and all. All in all, nothing negative to say about this place. We'll be bringing out of town guests here to prove that Boise can hold it's own in the world of New American cuisine without being pretentious.

This place was pretty good. We started with the pork belly lettuce wraps. They were very good. We ordered their beef cheek special which was very tender and tasty, the macaroni and cheese was perfect and we also ordered the lamb burger and cubano sandwich. If you like lamb, you would love the burger. We were not a fan but we don't particularly enjoy lamb but we really want to so we seem to try it at many places. Just a little gamy for our taste. I think for what you get the prices seem to be a little high. For the four of us the meal came to over $100. Seemed steep for what we ordered. Atmosphere was fun. Hostesses out front were very immature and unprofessional but our waiter was very helpful and friendly.

Delicious all the way around. We ate 4 appetizers and the beef cheeks. The apps were all delicious: duck pastrami (a special-- good but we could've skipped it in favor of one of their regular items), the brussels sprouts, kim chee french fries, and the mac & cheese. They were all excellent. The mac & cheese is very sharp and flavorful; the kim chee fries are superb and highly recommended. The brussels are a good standard too. The beef cheeks were so soft and delicate, but the sauce was full of flavor. Go here!

I came here for a dinner with friends for the first time and it was Aaaaaaaaaamazing. Our waitress was superb! There was ten of us and she was great, totally on point. I ordered the bahn mi fries and my sister ordered the kimchee fries for appetizers. Holy heaven in my mouth!!! The kobe beef was fantastic! I ordered the salmon salad, it was ok. It was a salad! We enjoyed ourselves so much that the mediocre salad didn't even matter. Every single person loved their meals! Wish I could have remembered our waitresses name. She had short hair with grey highlights. Can't wait to come back!

A recipe for DISH-licious dining: 1. Start with one part 'the diner-eclectic' vibe. 2. Add a generous dash of welcoming greeting together with friendly and menu-savvy table service. 3. Stir in one part creative menu of push the envelope flavor combinations leveraging local ingredients. 4. Whisk in two parts professional kitchen for crafting and plating the food as feast for eyes and tummy. 5. Finish with fair prices. Watch happy dinners savor every bite, tell friends, write "fan" reviews and come back again. SERVICE A "guest's note" to ensure recipe evolves to 5 star outcome; Owners might monitor the service floor as the Dish simmers along to prevent loooonnnnggg delays between food delivery and 'how is it' check in and again at plate pick up at finish of meals and again at delivery of check and again at pick up of payment. Server warm welcome and enthusiasm about the food are both top notch here. But if not managed well, guests can get indigestion by meals' end due to disappearing server. MENU & PRICES Unarguably among the most creative in Boise, menus have choices for omniores, vegetarians, vegans and gluten free diners. Menu changes based on what is fresh and there is a daily specials addition. Many dishes are designed for sharing at the table or small plates dining. Some overlap in lunch and dinner menus. Prices range from @ $6 - $15 at lunch and to $23 at dinner. Good value for the quality. FOOD The super friendly server was well versed in the menu and food and spot on to say consider the specials because they are wonderful. On a recent lunch service visit the special of crispy Bucksnort rootbeer BBQ Chicken Sandwich with grilled pineapple, and hot pepper slaw on a toasted brioche bun was excellent. (Although I vote for the end of the fad for brioche buns as the container for hearty sandwiches like this as they are almost always too delicate to hold up.) I can count on the fingers of one hand with room left over how many times a year I order chicken in a restaurant. Some of that has to do with animal husbandry concerns unless I know from where the kitchen sources their poultry and some that restaurant chicken is often tasteless. But this sandwich called my name and it was excellent This kitchen also does wonderful things with vegetables. Roasted Brussels sprouts with pickled onions, candied jalapeno and cilantro in a tart sweet SE Asian dressing were remarkable and the dish was sized to share. I am less a fan of the house coriander vinaigrette on the house salad. Although I love the curly endive mixed in the salad (more restaurants should use this great textured green) and also a big fan of coriander, it gave the dressing a 'muddy' taste. Also, the greens were far overdressed and the too big slices of raw beet didn't work either. I love salads but not this one. LIVING THE VIDA LOCAL The young chef is a local guy who goes out of his way to source local food. As related aside, note reference to The Dish in recent Forbes article on buying local. forbes.com/sites/annefie… LIBATIONS Full bar, soft drinks included Bucksnort root beer (hooray), great local coffee. LOCATION On the main floor level of one of Boise's great old downtown buildings with lots of windows on two sides. VIBE & SEATING The Dish reads as part urban-diner with upholstered booths down the center and along sides of room (great for traffic flow to avoid sardine can seating otherwise created with tables back to back). It is also part rustic dinner with some metal tables at the back and on window side and trim elements like rough wood siding on some walls. Bar is right at entry with seating at several high perch bar stools. More seating at outside tables at the sidewalk. Diner vibe is continued with the music mix of pop rock classics from as far back as the 50's through the '80's. Offering constructive criticism, I suggest they turn the volume down. Paul McCartney leading a live concert audience in multiple choruses of "Hey Jude" was so loud as our server was explaining the specials that we could barely hear her. That kind of volume continued as we listened to performers like Frankie Vallie, the Beatles and Aretha. Music systems ought to be background to support conversations not compete with them. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: On street downtown Boise. Good luck with that. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in at main entry and throughout and out to patio. Booth seating is "step up" at all. Standard table seating in front may be too tight for wheelchair users. Standard table seating at back should work. 3) THE LOO: Bathrooms are on lower floor of building, access by exiting to lobby and then via stairs or elevator. 4) HOURS & "Linner" tip: Not open straight through. Lunch 11 - 2. Happy Hour starts at 4. Dinner service begins at 5p. If you're looking for "linner" between 2 and 5, consider Juniper which is open straight through with lunch menu to 5.

I came here solo, and sat at the bar. Jeffery, the bartender, was super warm and welcoming! The Brie Burger was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly, and the flavors were subtle and delicious. The atmosphere was lovely- lots of people, an open patio and just overall super positive. It's a happy place! I would love to come back here again!

Saw owner assault an employee and then a customer who tried to stop it. Food so bad we had to order pizza in for the reunion that was being held at the restaurant.

Loved this restaurant. Visiting from San Francisco. Service impeccable. I'm vegan and with not many vegan options in Boise, ID, I had an amazing small meal. Daily app special of local leeks. Pomme frites off the menu. A glass of local wine.

We really enjoy having lunch here. It is conveniently located downtown within walking distance of many businesses. The presentation of the food is fantastic and the quality is great.

Awesome food. We had the Brie burger, Cubano (which id had before) and sweet potato fries. Good beers and service to top it off. We had "Joel" great guy, equalled the quality of the food with great service. Been here 3 times and will be coming back. Boise cuisine!!

Our reservation was at 7:30. After ordering around 8:00, our food finally came out at 9:15 to a table full of grumbling stomachs. When one girl at the table didn't receive the titled dairy product of the Brie burger, she was asked "would you like the cheese on the side, or taken back." Normally this would be the correct response from a server, but not this time. The burger came back with a cold slice of Brie on top of the burger, as opposed to the melted Brie that the girl next to her seemed to enjoy. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to detail did not stop there. For a restaurant that I spent as much as I did at, I was not expecting such a casual experience. The wait staff was very disorganized with getting the tickets to the correct individuals. I started writing this review about ten minutes ago, and it has just barely been organized to the point where I'm getting cashed out. Silverware and napkins were not individually placed at the settings, instead there was a communal tray to grab from. It was just incredibly disorganized. As far as the food goes, it seemed hit or miss. My fiancé ordered the New York strip ordered medium. The steak came out medium rare, which to my taste was fantastic, but was not at all what she ordered. The whipped potatoes were a great velvety texture, but lacking any flavor or depth. I ordered the Duck Po Boy, and it was surprisingly sweet. It had some great flavors, but was drown out by the amount of mustard aioli spread. There were some wonderful house made pickle slices that I was able to put on the second half of my sandwich after I realized they had been hidden underneath the pile of fries, while delicious, were in more abundance than if we had asked for the super sized portion. Overall, I would like to think this was a poor experience, but I'm hoping a one off. We were a large group and that puts a strain on wait staff, but this was not at all within the expectation of the reputation that the dish has created for themselves. I'll be going to Fork next time.

Ill have to say my experience of The Dish wasn't that great the first time I dined. The service was slow, food was sub-par and there was no liquor! The second time was much different and I always give a place a couple times before I give them a review. Almost our entire party ordered the Beef Cheeks and we weren't disappointed. They melted in our mouth. The demi glaze covering them was delicious and the accompaniments were just as rewarding. The butternut squash soup was buttery and warm for my belly. Everything was great the service was delightfully fast. I'm only giving 4 stars because the beers were extremely over priced. A Stella was 7 dollars.

I went once didn't get to try the food because they close at one part after lunch and then open up for dinner. We arrived about 45 min before they closed for lunch and after not being acknowledged for 5 min the hostess stated we weren't able to eat there because they were closing early since it was slow.horrible service

Not sure where to begin but this place is amazing!! Kimchi Fries are worth the trip alone and the entrees from there get even better. Braised Beef Cheek was excellent!! No knife necessary. All of this and Raw Oysters to boot... Hard not to want to order everything.! Definitely my favorite joint in Boise and recommend for anyone wanting something different! Great job guys definitely the #1 spot IMHO!

Food was great, however we received some of the worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant of this caliber. The waitress was very rude and tacky. She had cleavage a mile long, which was constantly in our faces. She constantly rolled her eyes and complained to her colleagues about our unusual requests. Being from areas with high Asian influence, we like to order many dishes and share them. This was a big problem for her, and our party of 6 felt very unwelcome. Fortunately for her, I was with family and did not want to create an embarrassing scene for them, so I paid the required gratuity. Otherwise I would have given no tip. I will neither return, nor will I recommend this place to anyone. I am borderline tempted to open a dispute on pure principal of food service. We were not demanding or rude, just unusual. That should be okay, but instead we were treated like hostiles.

We had high hopes for this restaurant with a seemingly delightful and Unique menu. Unfortunately, a lot was lacking. We arrived a couple minutes early for our reservation. The hostess kindly offered to take our coats and ushered us to our booth. This is where it all went to pot. The booth was cramped--no leg room for my 5'9" legs and my husband's 6'2" build. Our server took awhile to get to us but eventually did. She took our drink order. The mixed wine beverage I ordered was very weak and overpriced. The server introduced the specials--most of which were already gone by 7:30 pm. It took almost an hour to get our entrees. My husbands rice was undercooked and rock hard...crack your teeth rock hard. When I received my entree my drink was almost gone. It took 1/2 the meal for the server to check in and take another order from me. The restaurant had mostly cleared with only a few tables having entrees and it took 15 minutes until a bus boy came by and saw mynhusband's beer was empty. He brought my husband a beer but I still had no 2nd drink. Finally the server came back and inquired if I wanted another drink (as though I hadn't ordered one previously). She finally brought it. By the time our plates were cleared it took another 10 minutes before we were brought a dessert menu. By that point we couldn't be more eager to leave. It took almost 15 minutes before our server checked in with us to take the dessert order. Instead we requested our check and went to the hostess stand to get our coats. Our coats were unattended at the public entrance to the building. Anyone off the street could have taken them. Needless to say, the experience was an overpriced waste of a couple hours. It was a thoroughly disappointing meal that was meant to be a birthday treat!

Great food and service. The pork chop was tasty and the citrus salad was very fresh and delicious. The portions were about average. Great feel in restaurant - very lively crowd.

My husband and I enjoyed an excellent date night on the patio this evening. We shared the beet salad, lamb burger, and Cubano. We were greeted by a very friendly host and despite the fact that we were the only people who chose the patio, we received just the right amount of attention from the lady who kept out water glasses filled. We had great service from the entire staff and the food was full of flavor and variety. I was particularly drawn to the pickles made from zucchini. Great service, and amazing food. I will definitely visit again with friends.

How I heard of this place: On my self-guided tour of the hidden culinary gem more popularly known as Boise, I found myself in conversation with a handful of very helpful and friendly locals. One such local, the young woman offering samples at Trader Joe's gave me some excellent recommendations for dinner options in town, including The Dish. Type of cuisine: "The Dish is a bistro-style restaurant with a heartfelt neighborhood feel. Our passion derives from delicious food, using quality local ingredients, and creating an atmosphere that is community-focused, warm, and intimate. We hope the Dish will quickly become your home away from home." Ambiance: An eclectic mix of modern meets refined roughness, the combination of patterns, colors and seating truly give a confusing air, yet somehow work in this quirky space. Entry is accessible through the Empire Building's main doors, or perhaps a little awkwardly through the outdoor patio. Inside, marbled tile leads patrons to a wooden podium asking you to please find a seat through the large, glass doors. Booth, bar and table seating available to patrons on the main floor, with views above to the loft, and more seating intrigue persons entering the establishment. The bar, adjacent the half-open-to-view kitchen, sits underneath the red-painted wine cellar, found overhead, behind a glass wall. And then some. What I ordered: Keeping it light, in order to enjoy the well-talked-about dessert to come, I started with a cup of the vegan and gluten-free Roasted Red Pepper-Coconut-Tomato Bisque ($3), which our server presented with complimentary (and garlicky) Black Bean Hummus and crispy flatbread. I also selected the half order of the Parmesan Crusted Mac & Cheese ($6) with a four-cheese sauce, elbow macaroni and fresh herbs. My husband and our dining companion each ordered the Brie Burger ($12.50), a half-pound Double R Burger with Brie cheese, truffle aioli, arugula, tomato, and balsamic onion marmalade served on Gaston's Brioche Bun. What I loved: The burger's balsamic onion marmalade! Whoa. Pickled zucchini? Another surprising, yet perfectly complementary flavor and texture pairing to the burger. Not to mention the crisped edges of the truly parmesan crusted mac & cheese; the fresh, diced tomatoes adding a surprisingly nice touch. Why I loved it: Simple food, creative preparation, indulgent combinations. Cost: Average to high ($11.50 - $23 per burger/dinner entree)

4.5 stars! I have been here twice and have to say that this is probably (IMHO) one of the best restaurants in Boise. They have unique dishes and appetizers that you would not expect to see in other places. I have to rave about the Cauliflower appetizer and pork belly lettuce wrap thing. They are doing it right. If you go there, do your self a favor and get those two things at least. The Cauliflower had a sweet pepper sauce with feta cheese = amazing. The pork belly was melt in your mouth with a sauce that resembled something like Chinese plumb sauce.

You know when you are in the mood for a good old greasy burger? You tried Red Robin, been there done that... Sonic isn't like it used to be... And Bittercreek ale house is supposedly known for their burgers but mine was dried out... FINALLY - the burger of burgers! - @ THE DISH! Cooked perfectly, my Brie burger was so good that I needed a nap after lunch. The fries were amazing (especially with the garlic aoli) and the gal that served us was a sweet heart. My buddy got the pastrami buffalo burger and said it was one of the best he'd had in a long time. We'll be doing many more business meetings here. Thanks for the great experience!

The Dish is a perfect name for this restaurant, because it only took one dish (the Roasted Cauliflower, by the way) for me to consider this establishment to be my new "crush." Yes, she truly got to my heart through my stomach. Deep down inside, when I take into account what others have said about The Dish, it appears that this eatery is in its fledgling stages, and they may yet be working out some of the kinks, especially in regards to table service. However, based on my experience alone, I'm confidently going ahead -- giving The Dish 5 shining stars. I found that in all but one of the previous reviews for The Dish, with 2 or 1-star ratings, the deductions had something to do with service. But in my case, (with Joel) service was on par. I imagine that the downtown business lunch crowd appreciates being taken care of in a low-key style with a friendly smile amid the pressures of the day. To illustrate, it just so happened that Joel was so non-evasive that I didn't really notice when he came to refill my water. In the very moment that I felt inclined to ask for some more water, I looked up... and voila! My glass was full again. To be fair, Joel's perceived stealthiness was probably due to the fact that I was making love to my burger at the time. TMI? (Anyway, more on that in moment.) When you walk into The Dish during the lunch hours, chances are that you'll seat yourself. I always recommend a shady patio seat when available, and that recommendation stands here at The Dish, too. Although, on a heated day, like today, you might want to park yourself a little further indoors. As for the food, did I mention the Roasted Cauliflower appetizer? Why, yes, I did. And for good reason, too. Let me say, that this one dish categorically took just about everything I know about new American cuisine and flipped it on its head. Eating it was a near out-of-body experience. Singing notes on the front end, you'll find the tangy-sweet Poblano Pepper Marmalade. And if that siren song alone doesn't raise your endorphin levels enough, you'll be serenaded with the pitch-perfect harmonies of the creamy Roasted Cauliflower, nicely fading into the smooth bite of the Goat Cheese, and accented with just the right amount of Tempura Crunch. To die for. (But in that so-glad-that-I-didn't-die-so-that-I-can-return-again-for-more kind of way.) To round it off, all of the burgers looked tempting. The left and right side of my brain fought it out over the Lamb Bacon Burger and the Brie Burger. Lamb Bacon won the day. And at the medium rare/medium temp, it is juicy beyond belief. Almost embarrassingly messy if you're on date. When I arrived at The Dish alone, I never expected what happened next... As she was gently placed upon my table, I found myself in a daze with my saucy and spicy goddess, as we stared longingly into each other's eyes. (I know, just go with it.) So, the next thing I know, I just blurted out, "Lamb Bacon, dear, will you be my girlfriend!?" And without hesitation, she said, "anytime, big boy!" Now from this point on, I'll spare you the R-rated details. But suffice it to say, "heavens to Betsy!" I used virtually every inch of my napkin. So, by now, I guess that it's no secret. I highly recommend The Dish -- the new-new American cuisine. Go.

This place is so delicious I went there twice in one week! I am obsessed with the red curry salmon. It was amazing. The cauliflower appetizer, figgy piggy pork chop, and the shrimp and grits were very yummy too! The decor gives the place a very cool vibe and the staff were super friendly. Love this place.

WOW this place is DELICIOUS. The owner or someone in charge is definitely a foodie, very well-thought out, creative menu. My friend suggested this place for lunch and I was surprised I had never heard of it because I am always trying to find delicious places to grab a bite. It's downtown and they have it decorated really fun...kinda retro/modern with Idaho decals on the walls. The prices are pretty high for dinner but lunch was decent..I think my meal was $10? I think I'd come back with my boyfriend for a nice dinner sometime. I ordered this amazing sandwich that has shredded chicken, avocado, some delicious balsamicky onions and then it's grilled like a panini and served with their amazing homemade fries. I devoured it!! My friend's salmon salad was amazing too, very light and tasty. I highly recommend this place, I will be returning soon!! :)

My wife and I ate here last night for dinner and it was amazing! Hats off to the chef. Our new favorite! We had the Kimchi fries outstanding! My wife had their roasted Brussel sprout salad and I had their amazing Beef cheeks with a parsnip puree and carmalized carrots! Out of this world! Finished the night off with a strawberry tomato Creme brulee, sounds weird but man who knew those flavors would go great! Great food and great service!

We had the calamari app. Great and tender! I had the salmon for dinner. So good!!!!!! Then, I had to try dessert. The flourless chocolate cake was so good I want it again tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rethink everything you thought you knew about the culinary arts. Personable staff, not overbearing or pushy, just right. Had the ravioli, wanted some protein, so they went ahead and threw a salmon on top. It was phenomenal, just like a bear high fiveing a shark with explosions an guns going off....yep, just took it there.

Awesome presentation, delicious food, and great wine list. Atmosphere is perfect for groups or couples looking for an upbeat location for a delicious dinner. We had and would recommend the brussel sprouts and asparagus , along with quinoa burger, beef cheaks, and to a southern girl's delight, the shrimp and gritts. Everything 5 star! Go eat there!!

It's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant where EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. Chef Jered put Boise on the map! Did dinner "family style" with some friends so we could all taste about 15 dishes. It's the way to go for sure. The dish that got us there in the first place - Crispy Pork Belly Lettuce Cups

I really liked the creativity of this place. We ordered the banh mi fries, expecting a pile of fries and banh mix fixings but it was piled into a big cylindrical shape which was fun. I could've eaten that alone as my entree as it was good and the portion was large. We also both got the Parmesan crusted Mac and cheese, me with pork shoulder and my husband with Korean beef. The Korean beef was amazing with a great flavor but my pork was tough and pretty flavorless. I had a bite and then didn't touch it again, something I almost regretted when we found out the meat was actually $5 EXTRA! The menu made it sound like it came with meat and never said anything about an extra charge so I wasn't too happy with that especially since my meat was inedible. It doubled the price of our dishes when we were intentionally ordering cheaper entrees. But the Mac was really good- loved the Parmesan crust. They also went a little overboard with specials- our waitress spent nearly five minutes at our table listing off and describing the many many specials which was annoying as we just wanted to order and eat. Overall the food was good and it was a cool space and the service was friendly and kept our drinks coming. I wouldn't recommend sitting upstairs on warmer days as it was HOT and things were a little slower as our waitress had to go up the narrow stairs to bring us our food and refill our waters or anything. That being said, it was rather entertaining, sitting at the bar seating on the second floor where we could look down on everything going on below. Not sure the prices were worth it though ($10 for dressed up fries?)... But I suppose you can decide!

The Dish was truly an amazing experience! The chef/owner is truly an artist and his creativity was amazing! We were on our way to a party and had to go in costume but it didn't seem to matter -- we had several other guests ask us where we were going and it opened the conversation. It was obvious many of the patrons were returning guests. I had the brussel sprouts and beef cheeks -- both were awesome. The specials were great as well! Excellent wine list. I highly recommend this restaurant -- it compares to many very high-end restaurants I have been to around the world!

I've tried this place for dinner and now lunch, and while I want to like it, I think I'm done. The flavors are there but the overall delivery falls short. Today I had the Cubano sandwich; a fellow eater had shared a bite last time and it was yummy. But today it comes delivered on my plate like a fish out of water. No other adornments or sides.....just an elongated and shining(greasy) roll on wax paper. Again, the flavor of the pickled veggies and the pork were quite good but the MAIN ingredient was supposed to be pork and the entire contents only had a few shreds. So disappointing. With each bite I kept hoping there would be a little more than the paper thin portion. Nope- didn't happen. For a $10 sandwich I want more than a roll with and a half dozen baby slices of pickle. There was more grain mustard than any other ingredient.

Dish was a great experience. They have a varied menu using local items put together in an exciting menu. One of the specials was a Sturgeon locally from the Snake river, which i ordered, but was informed they had ran out. As I was making another choice I was relating a personal story about why I was so excited to try this dish. The waitress came back to the table and informed me the chef had went and cut a new piece for me and was preparing it. Just phenomenal! Excellent service, beer and wine only however just to let you know

I get frustrated when I go to a restaurant that puts the utmost attention into the details of everything except for their beverage list. I've worked in the boutique food and wine business for years and I was so excited to try out this new Boise hot spot when I heard about it and the path that the chef has taken in getting there. His menu was not only delicious, but very innovative. The meals aren't just common dishes that you can find anywhere, but meals that the chef has created, or delicious meals that we may be familiar with with his own twist. I loved the food and I would definitely go back for more in the future. Likewise the decor is impeccable. So much creativity and thought went into the location itself, and the food; but NO thought at all went into the beverage menu. It's disappointing to see that The Dish took the easy way out in that realm. If you read through all of the reviews here almost everyone comments on the lack of wine/beer offerings. As a person who works in the industry and eats and drinks from top restaurants across the US, I can't comprehend how places like this stay in business long term. Ultimately people who go to dine at a place that has this caliber of food, are going because they want something delicious, and unique, and they generally like to intrigue their palette. And that applies to their drinks as well. I hate to be so critical about The Dish in my words because I loved every other part of it. So much so that I still gave it 4 stars even though their beverage offerings were so lackluster. I debated between 3/4 for that reason alone but given that I think it is one of the better spots I've eaten in boise I rounded up. My strong strong recommendation to the owners would be to pay attention to your wine and beer list too.. You will attract and retain much more guests and so much of your profit is made in alcohol as is, so you should provide something that is as high of quality as your food. There is a lot of great wine available through various distributors in Idaho, as long as the retailers and restauranteurs are willing to take a little effort to find it. Find the good people who represent good wine. Not the mass produced junk. Or if you need some assistance, please feel free to reach out to me and I will gladly help you out as I love my home state of Idaho and only want the food/wine scene to continue to improve there. On the flip side, thanks for bringing such a great perspective on your cuisine to Boise and keep up the good work!

I went here for lunch last week & had a wonderful meal. I ordered the Brie burger & loved it! So much flavor! This is definitely on my list of good lunch spots in Boise.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday for my first visit. I will definitely go back. The food had amazing flavor and was reasonably priced. I did feel that the sandwiches were a little skimpy on the meat, but they were still tasty. A little more meat on the sandwiches and I'd be going back regularly.

So so so yummy!!! First time trying this place!!! They don't have kimchi fries during lunch but they made an exception :) everything was really good and their home made chips were the best!! And awesome service and friendly waitresses!!

Love! Absolutely love The Dish! The dining experience was wonderful with amazing food and service. The calamari will change your life and is a must every time. We also had the BLT salad which was beautiful and delicious. For entrées our server suggested the pork chop which was hallelujah yummy and the brisket was mmmmm :) This place is "top drawer" in my book! Well done Chef Jered!

Very interesting preparations. Brussel sprout salad is a large portion salad with warn cut sprouts. Very tasty and unique. Lamb shank is braised perfectly with a ragout of veggies and Mediterranean preparation of rice/grain. Side of Greek yogurt/cucumber (tzaziki) sauce was nice with lamb. Red snapper special was served over an interested mashed potatoes with lemon sauce on the side. Wine list was simple but complete.....nice job! Service was a descent, but no where near the level of Chandlers or Barbacoa. This is the weak link in an otherwise great attempt to bring upscale dining to Boise. This place has great promise with some service polishing.

This place was great and the service was quick. Had a reservation for 5 and ordered a lot of food. Ordered the calamari steaks for an appetizer and they were great, then ordered the brie burger for myself and i'll tell you it was probably one of the best burgers that i have eaten in the boise area. Then ordered the lamb burger for the wife and haven't had a better one nice and juicy. Then ordered the grilled salmon salad for the mother in law and was moist and excellent ( as she says ). I will be returning for more meals.

Routine menu items and specials were very pleasant. Not something I wrote in my journal about. Worth another shot and certainly a first try.

They seated us on time. Service was excellent and toe food was outstanding. The portions are large. We elected to split the salad and the entre. There were no looks of distain on splitting. The Restaurant recognizes the portion size. Coffee was French press and excellent. Desert was split by all and was outstanding. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Service lacks at dinner. Our meal was bland and unimaginative, though the plating was okay. Spent $80 on dinner and felt like I was being treated like a second rate customer or just flat out forgotten. The food, when it finally came, had obviously sat around for awhile and been reheated. Sandwiches at lunch are okay and on the price side, but who cares when Bluebird is right on the corner.

Best food in Boise. It's not even close. If you go the rest of your life without trying beef cheeks (was a special) you will have missed something special.

Home from a long trip to Washington DC, the land of a thousand good restaurants, and The Dish is as good as the best there. Large group of us dined in the street, and truly everyone had outstanding food. The brisket fell apart, the Mac and cheese was super rich, the pita nachos were as great a the, calamari, and the fritter and frozen meringue desserts were perfect. Friendly staff and great trendy feel. Only bummer is the city still had not given the full bar license.

Had dinner here last Wednesday. I had the Slow Braised Kobe Brisket, Millet Cheddar "Polenta" Cake, Braised Kale, Pine Nuts, Horseradish Whip, Natural Jus! The food was perfect and the waiter was great and did a great job recommending wine. We had a malbec that went great with the meal.

Hit and miss. I've had the duck confit sandwich twice and enjoyed it, also a burger, and the fries are good. Service is meh. Ordered a Caesar salad that turned out to be a single head of romaine drenched in some kind of dressing that wasn't Caesar or tasty, for $9. They were nice enough to remove it from the bill but by that time it was too late to order something else. There's also a LOT of pork and shellfish on the menu.

The food was great-chicken fried steak special needs to be added to permanent menu. Chef Jarrod came by table to make sure everything was perfect--and it was. Best meal in Boise. Apple fritters dessert was fabulous. Favorite place in town.

I was passing through town and chose The Dish based on other reviews. I had relatively high hopes based on other reviews and The Dish easily surpassed my expectations. Very attentive staff, the food was excellent if not slightly underpriced for the quality. I only wish I was staying another night to try another course.

This was a great meal. As a self-proclaimed "foodie" I'm always searching for new and interesting menus, and The Dish menu stuck out the most. We went on Valentine's Day, and unfortunately we were smushed in with a bunch of other people (I get that it was Valentine's Day), but the waitresses barely had any room to get through. Besides that, the food was great. We had the kimchi fries as an appetizer (could have been a bit less greasy) and then I have the beef cheeks and my boyfriend had the brisket-both were absolutely delicious. I would love to go back when it's not so busy as I thought the layout and vibe of restaurant was excellent! Oh, and I would recommend the port and tonic to drink-a surprisingly great mix!

Chantel was amazing! Food was great. I got the beef brisket, the presentation was really done well, the food tasted equally as well. Overall great experience. The ambiance is easy and relaxing. Would definitely go back.

Amazing food selection! Service was great they were very on top of water refills and super knowledgeable on the food! The atmosphere was very modern and slick! I got their red pepper soup it was spectacular and the salad I got was even better!

My wife and I like to get into downtown when possible, and we like to test out the smaller locations. This was a great experience. The service was very good and attentive. Half the fun was trying to choose what to eat. We had the brisket and blueberry prawns. Both were great. We will be back to try out other items.

So this place is not for me. They have huckleberry prawns on their menu -yuck! But here's the thing; they pull off some crazy dishes (the prawns were weird but good). I was really impressed with their inventiveness. Will it ever be in my top ten restaurants? No. But is it number one for some of my more adventurous foodie friends? Yes.

Jered and his Dish are back! Thank goodness. I know Jered only rates his cuisine as four stars, so so will I. There's always room for improvement, right? I think when they figure out that a couple of dishes were a little over-salted (namely the polenta and tomato cream sauce), and the spring rolls are a need a little snap (maybe a few daikon matchsticks?) to offset the richness of the delectable duck, they'll be ready for that extra star. If you do do the springroll, be sure to eat it with the fresh cilantro garnish, something the very fine and attentive server Kaitlyn forgot to mention. Do go, this is the best food in Boise. Who else has multiple sous-vide dishes on the menu, especially 48hr brisket, seared and served in a wine-jus reduction. The soon-to-be signature wings were a lesson in textural perfection. Yes, brie sauces! I'll save more praise for later. Someone had to get the ball rolling, here.

The place looked great. The menu looked really good. The food was good. The service was bad, pretty bad. I really wanted to like it more. Hey, its still ironing out the wrinkles?...

Based on the menu I read online, I was expecting a different restaurant. It's really an upscale Diner--and I suppose it that's what you're expecting, it's decent. They made me something off the menu that was in their online menu: grilled cheese with Gruyere, sage, prosciutto, arugula, and truffle aioli. Sounds amazing? Unfortunately I scraped off nearly TWO tablespoons of aioli. Ruined the whole thing, especially since the rest of the sandwich was comparatively light. The side salad was excellent--but I wouldn't go back.

My husband had the brisket and it was amazing. My Mac n cheese was mediocre - not worth the calories - and I realized I just don't like pork belly but if you do the lettuce cups are probably pretty good. Service was just ok. I like the decor but tables are tiny.

What more can I say other than The Dish is D-Lish! Treat yourself to this intimate, cutting edge, farm to table eatery in downtown Boise. You will not be disappointed. Boise's culinary scene is growing into a force to be reckoned with and The Dish is at the top of this new food chain.

I thought this was one of the more thoughtful, creative menus I had seen in a little bit. My girlfriend had the red pepper tomato coconut bisque which was bomb, and the pork belly lettuce cups. The pork belly was out of this world. Crispy and creamy. The sauces were just ok though. I had the duck confit salad which was great, and the cubano which was fun and flavorful but doesn't have the flavors or a traditional cuban. I can't wait to come back to try more. The chicken thighs entree looks crazy good. Please Boise, stop going to the effing Fork and go to the places that are actually trying!

Ah. May. Zing! I went on a Tuesday night with my husband and my parents and every single thing we ordered was delicious... Appetizers: Pork Belly Lettuce Cups and Calamari Main Courses: Grilled Salmon Curry, Figgy Piggy Pork Chop, Blue Corn Crepe Crab Enchiladas, and a special that night: Ribeye Steak with Haystack Fries Dessert: Carrot Cake and Chocolate Butterscotch Cupcake As we were leaving, we even met the chef, Jered Couch! He is doing amazing and creative things with food... eating at The Dish is a MUST for anyone in the Boise area!

Wow! Working in the industry I often have felt discouraged by the lack of awesome places to go and eat in the treasure valley. I heard that Jared had opened a new place this summer called Dish. We'll here's the dish on Dish. Went in today to get a bite and see what's up and I was amazed. Cool modern yet fun diner atmosphere, packed with customers and all if them smiling. The service staff was amazing, friendly and on top of it taking care of every detail with the guests and yet still finding time to chat with people and make them feel welcome. They were having fun and it showed. I ordered the confit lumpia and some simple fries. A beer which I cannot remember the name of but it was great. Dawson Taylor coffee to finish. I will say that it was great plus some, lumpia was crisp with a little ooze of duck fat dripping off it served with a nice glaze for dipping along side fresh coriander and carrots. Simple fun and good. I highly recommend this place for lunch, and I will need to follow up after I've tried dinner. Bethany thanks for chatting with me and the great cup of coffee. Cheers to good eating Chef Ben

Took some coworkers here for lunch and it was fabulous. It is always difficult to feed out of town guests but The Dish did not disappoint. We had a vegetarian with us and they altered the menu for her. Service was prompt and the food was great! Will definitely be back.

Service - Server wasn't very friendly. We ordered two baskets of sweet potato fries for a starter. They came out 45 minutes later with our food that didn't all arrive at the same time. Ambiance - Cute. The place has a whole new look from the previous occupants.Patio furniture is quite uncomfortable. Menu - Nothing too inspiring for a vegetarian Price - Medium. Could have a better lunch special.

Now that the dish has had some time to get the service going, its a great place. Love their burgers and the chicken wrap. Its good. I usually go for lunch. I had dinner there once and it was a nice experience. Super cozy inside.

We won't be back. I can see what others like about it. The food is trendy and if you're bored with familiarity, this might be your thing. But it seems as if the chef doesn't trust any food to stand on its own, so everything on the menu is coated with sauces or condiments. The decor is eye candy but their banquettes only allow diners to perch, not relax. We were seated along the half-wall adjacent to the kitchen and the burnt-plastic smell of oils being heated past their smoke point was constant throughout the meal. They were out of the brisket, but the special was Beef Cheeks that were prepared the same way. The blubbery globs of fat that dominated every forkful became too much for me and I left most of it untouched. The service was OK, but not friendly. Meh.

This restaurant is amazing! I am a critical foodie that won't leave a review unless the food is impressive or awful. The menu is creative, inspired and original. So.... The Boise Weekly Review that some of you may have read was written in poor taste by someone who sadly can't recognize good food, a great atmosphere and a wonderful addition to the Boise restaurant scene. After several visits, I will definitely continue to visit The Dish for a great night out.

One of the worst places I've eaten, especially for one that was obviously trying. Too hard. I actually like schmancy food and fusion cuisine, but got the blueberry prawns and they were almost unedible. A most unfortunate meal. My husband's ravioli was ok at best.

In Boise for a meeting. My wife and I had dinner on Saturday night, Oct 12th. We were introduced to The Dish when we attended a private reception in the loft Thursday evening and we were very much impressed with the buffet selections so we decided to return for dinner. We found the service to be excellent from the very courteous hostess, the knowledgeable and friendly bartender to the accommodating and attentive wait server. We had the butternut squash soup and brussels sprout salad both much to our liking. The pork belly lettuce cups and enchilada plate were both tasty but way too much food. I especially liked the draft beer choices, a welcome change to our customary choice for wines. We will return on our next trip to Boise. Dick Farnsworth Santa Rosa, CA

First time visit and was very pleased. The food was extraordinary. We started with some foi gras which was amazing. I love foi gras and very rarely find it on a menu in the US. That alone would take me back to The Dish. Even better my entree was out of this world. It was a crispy honey coated chicken with siracha sauce. My oh my I am still thinking about it today. Served with jasmine rice and an edamame salad, the spice of the chicken was tempered nicely by the salad-an excellent pairing. Husband had the ravioli. It was served with a tasty arugula pesto. The portions were large. Wine list was lacking and the space is loud and cramped but the food is so good I can overlook those things. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.

Knocking one star off. Had dinner at The Dish again last night. Not sure which was worse...the food or the service. Our server didn't seem to know what she was doing and it took ages for the bottle of wine to be delivered. My husband's entree, the cubano sandwich, arrived way after the other three came to the table. It was so late it appeared either our server forgot to put the order in or the kitchen screwed up. Unacceptable. None of our group was impressed with their food. Best thing I ate were a few of my husband's fries. I might go back and grab a glass of wine on the patio but I will not be eating here again.

Epic fail. The bartender was the only one who knew how to treat us properly, so kudos to him. We made reservations a week in advance for a 7pm dinner. We arrived and were told there were no tables available. There were empty tables, we could see them, but were told otherwise. We mentioned we had to get to a show after dinner. Nonetheless, 48 minutes go by... the tables remained empty. Glances were exchanged between us an uncomfortable hostess, who said nothing, so I had to inquire about our reservation. She said the kitchen simply had too many orders, and that they told her not to put anymore in. That's why she wasn't seating anyone at tables, she relented that we could sit at a table, we just couldn't order any food. WTF??? She said the kitchen would get mad if she asked again. Wow. The manager, who also knew we were waiting, likewise did nothing during our wait. The poor management of the restaurant is one thing, but letting us sit there without telling us we couldn't order, when they knew we were on a schedule,is enexcusable. We never got to eat. We weren't comped our drink. We won't be returning.

Omg! This place was very nearly the worst food we've ever had. My wife had the blueberry prawns (barf!!). Do NOT order them. I had the baked ravioli, and it's was ok...but definitely nothing I write home about. Their chef seems keen on going overboard with his "flair" so if that is your thing, you'll probably love the place. Failing that, don't go.

Loved the food. So excited to get to enjoy Jared's creations again. Watermelon-Tomato Gazpacho... YUM. Calamari... THE BEST. Smoked Duck Confit Salad... Very Enjoyable. Homemade Smore desert was A--MA-ZING. Atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and trendy.

Jered Couch proves once again why he is the rising star in the Boise culinary world and definitely the chef to watch over the next few years. In his latest offerings at The Dish, he comes through with unique and well crafted flavor combinations that leave you satisfied but wanting to try everything else on the menu. Everything I've tried including the brisket, the beef cheeks, the burgers, the appetizers and don't even get me started on the carrot cake, has been delicious and very professionally prepared and presented. Most places in town can't quite keep up with this level of quality, you really need to try it. Other reviews either complain or praise other aspects of the restaurant like seating or servers or whatever but don't worry about it, the food is why you go to The Dish. He uses real foods with real flavors the way they should be used. Too many restaurants make their food taste good by using a ton of sauce, these dishes taste good in the real way that food is supposed to. I highly recommend this place if you are into high quality food prepared just right or if you just want something that really tastes good.

I was only in Boise for two days...and I went to this restaurant solely based on the yelp reviews. I sat at the bar because I was eating alone. The bartender was a very friendly older gentleman who was good with recommendations. I drank the Cotes-du-Rhone and had the duck po'boy. I actually do not like duck, but the thought of a po'boy was so enticing that I did not pay attention to the type of meat. I got a side salad. The po'boy was fantastic. Perfectly oily, perfectly salty, and perfectly sweet. If you don't like savory...this sandwich is not for you. But if sweet and salty is your thing, this is your sandwich. The salad was a great combination if you are having wine with your meal. The atmosphere is very hard to describe. I did not immediately like the decor, definitely modern casual, with a hint of diner. I would come back here any day for a laid back meal. I am glad I spent my one night out in Boise at the Dish.

What a lovely dinner experience, the chef really knows how to surprise you with a new set of flavors and mix of ingredients. When someone asked me, what kind of restaurant is it, I could not just label it...it's too diverse. I am from out of town, so I won't be able to check it out more often, but it was certainly a great experience. It helped also that we had a fantastic server (Corey)...we told her we would hire her if we were to open a restaurant. I sure makes a difference (as you can see from other reviews who were not so pleased and must have had a bad server) - so owners of The Dish...hopefully you read this and watch out for your good servers. Yes, it's a bit pricey, so not a place you go every week for sure, but great for a special treat - and considering the quality ingredients and creativity, worth every dime. Also, we were three and shared 2 appetizers and 2 entrees + 1 dessert (Banana Foster, crazy good), that was more than enough food.

WORST dining experience I have ever had. Long story short, me and my girlfriend wanted to try this new restaurant, because we like to adventure. We waited over an HOUR before deciding to ask to be billed for the appetizer we had. They refused to give me the bill, brought our food up in boxes, threatened to CALL THE COPS on me if I didn't pay the full bill for food I hadn't even touched. I asked our waitress 3 times for the bill before they finally brought us our good and they still wouldn't bring me the bill. So I called the cops, and they escorted us out after I paid for only the appetizer. And on our way out the owner constantly yelled at us, in front of all the customers, threatening to charge us with trespassing if we ever return. We are not planning on going back. Horrible restaurant, very unprofessional, and I will be surprised if they're still around in a year or two.

The food was amazing! The menu is very unique. Had the brisket and wow delicious... it was seasoned well and very tender. The salad with pine nuts and the dressing were right on... loved all the flavors that were happening. Never had anything quite like it other than at some place in Vegas that I can't remember the name. We will definitely be going back.
