BEST sushi in Boise. Sweet & kind service. Lovely atmosphere. AMAZING amazing fresh delicious food. So happy I have found this place!

Ordered the sushi/sashimi for two. Pretty generous array of each and varying types of both. All was very good. This roll included a choice of special roll. We decided on the Dynamite roll. That was a mistake. It tasted like it was made from a frozen breaded halibut stick. However the sushi and sashimi was most excellent. I'll explore other rolls on subsequent visits. Staff was very pleasant and attentive. We came for a late Sunday lunch so there wasn't very busy. But the place is clean and spacious. Will return.

Good food. The waiter was a tall guy with long hair, and didn't have much personality. The Nigiri was OK, but they didn't have the Tamago Nigiri which was on the menu. The Super White Tuna Nigiri was not very flavorful. The fried roll I had was very flavorful.

Probably more like 3.5. Anyway, it's our go-to sushi place here and while it's a great little restaurant with very friendly staff, the sushi just isn't that great. Better than most in the area but it still has me longing for the sushi we had living in Boston. Yes, Idaho is land locked, I get it...but it's still really just average sushi. Anyhoo, I ordered delivery for the kid and myself - veggie soba, sushi deluxe, shrimp tempura appetizer. Their "soba" is pretty good, but the noodles they use aren't actually soba. Sushi deluxe comes with a spicy tuna roll which is also pretty decent. What gets me is the shrimp tempura appetizer. It's 6.99 for two shrimp tempura and a bunch of veggie tempura. Two. Shrimp. I get it, shrimp is expensive and you still want to make this look like a substantial menu item so you give us all these filler veggies. But really? It's just irritating.

Great place, good service and the wife and I really enjoyed it. A mixture of Hibachi vegetables and sushi We would absolutely come back again

This was our 1st trip here. Some friends suggested we meet them for dinner before a BSU basketball game and I didn't even know where it was. I'm not the world's biggest sushi fan (I really like good sushi, but I had one bad experience that has scarred me for life). Based on my friend's recommendation, I had the Sashimi. This was an excellent choice. Even with my queasy stomach, this dish was excellent. I, who have never recommended sushi (I guess sashimi is sushi, but I don't really know), feel comfortable recommending this. The service was very good as well.

I like sakana - we used to go to wasabi but when they relocated we switched to sakana - pretty good sushi, not the most amazing but friendly service and we will go back, especially for $1 sushi nights.

Beautiful and delicious sushi! We've been driving by this place for quite awhile, but stopped in today on a whim. Don't let the exterior fool you. It's clean, tastefully decorated, and well-priced. They also come around with dollar sampler plates, which make it a fun, cheap way to try different kinds of sushi. Stop in for a great meal on the bench!

Super friendly staff. Great salad and miso. High quality fish. What more does a a need? It's not cheap like Sushi Ya but better quality for sure.

The fish is usually fresh. Boise has very few "great" places to eat fresh fish and it probably has a lot to do with not being very close to that big body of water with fresh fish in it. The restaurant has a great vibe to it, always clean and the service is usually pretty good. Some of the items I like are: Kani Salad - Cucumber and Crab Hana Roll - Sauce kicks a$$ Sunrise Roll - Special Roll Triple Sushi - 3 Yellowtail, Ahi and Salmon + Roll Roll Combo C - Spicy Yellowtail, Salmon and Ahi Don't forget the elaborate REAL sake bombs which Mei whom is always there will do them with you. Ahh one last thing. Get the MOCHI or Green Tea Ice Cream. Both rock the house.

Very bland tasting and not particularly fresh. We ordered 7 different types of rolls and not one made me want more than one piece. I know we're in Idaho, but still. The people from here thought it was okay but I wouldn't come back. I'd also like it if the plates were cleared promptly.

Sakana is a very reliable place to get sushi in Boise. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Sushi is neatly rolled and the fish is fresh. I will be back time & again! (:

This was pretty good sushi for Boise. Only had one piece that tasted "fishy". the rest had good texture and presentation.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Or, in Sakana's case, don't judge a sushi restaurant by a shabby location between the neighborhood Dollar Tree and everyone's favorite heart-attack-in-a-cardboard-box, Little Caesar's. This place is beautiful inside, great decorations, clean eating area, much more of a 5-star feel than the 2-star building it's hidden inside. Really, once you get past the sketchy back alley and tumbleweed skirting past like a horror movie scene, this place is a true gem. Service was prompt and our waitress was so kind and attentive throughout our meal. Fresh, yummy fish and very creative rolls. We got the Viking which was made to look like an actual Viking ship- very clever. We ate to our heart's content and were pleasantly surprised at the final bill amount- plus, they give discounts to Boise State students! Would definitely come back here again if I find myself in Boise.

Om. Nom. Nom. This Sakana location may not be the prettiest place in the world, but don't let appearances be deceiving. I have visited for both lunch and dinner and have never left unsatisfied or unhappy. This is NOT your grocery store sushi folks. This is hand crafted tasty little bites of NOMS than cannot be denied. Not a RAW fish person? Never fear, the menu also houses a multitude of cooked items for the Sushi House experience Sans sushi. Prices are reasonable, and the product is fresh. Staff are happy to answer your questions. Now offering Dollar Sushi Mon-Thurs gives you a chance to sample without committing to an entire roll. Go forth, get your adventure on and give Sakana a try!

One of the best sushi spots in Boise. The service is always friendly, the prices are fair especially $1 sushi Monday through thursday. Their lunch bento boxes are fun if youre looking to switch it up.

Maybe I just went on the wrong day but this place was really disappointing. I know we are in boise idaho and not to expect GREAT sushi but this place was really not good. All the rolls were fishy tasting. Nothing tasted fresh and service was mediocre at best.

They say... A penny earned is not much, but dollar sushi is pretty awesome!!!! Watashi no onaka de Oishī! Was an excellent honey moon!

This place is solidly second place to me. The food is expertly put together, but there isn't much exotic. The food shows up fast, the place is clean, but the servers leave much to be desired. It's worth noting that this place cares about their rice. I've seen that high quality sheen that good sushi rice gets, more than once. The fish, while unexotic, is always good on the worst days. When I mention the service, I mean my card went missing at their tills. Numerous orders have been messed up. I've had one waitress who borders on rude. in a place like Boise, good sushi is a rare thing. I'm rating 4 based on the field, 3.5 if it were anywhere else.

This place is the best! Dont let the location or shady exterior fool you....this is the place for sushi in the treasure valley. Once they win you over with their amazing rolls they get your heart with their service. They remember your name, your previous order and then spoil you with a complimentary appetizer!

This is an awesome place for Bench sushi. Best on vista, for sure. I always get the mamasan and am pleased. The staff is very sweet. Great place!

Tried this location today for the first time. Dad & I are big fans of the Eagle/Overland location, and this one is just as good. They even have some of the same staff -- the waitress who greeted us recognized us from the other location and even remembered what we typically order. How's that for competent and friendly service?! Like the other spot, they offer dollar sushi on Mon and Tue. Today we ordered our typical Hana and Tiger and also tried the Iso Maki. All three tasted great. I really liked how they spiffed up this former buffet restaurant. They have really pretty light fixtures and I'm a fan of purple, so I really dig the crystal area dividers. Dad said that the men's room was "spectacular", and I've never heard him describe a bathroom in that way. Must have been really nice! This location is not nearly as convenient for us as the Eagle/Overland place, so we probably won't make it here too often... but when we're in the area, we definitely will come back.

As far as the Boise area goes this is by far my favorite sushi. I prefer the Vista location over the Eagle 23rd location. I actually live very close to Eagle but the drive is worth it for me. The staff is amazing and very friendly. The chefs put a lot of effort into their art. I've always had great tasting fish there. Highly recommend it.

My favorite spot on Vista! The staff are so friendly, and the sushi chefs always do an excellent job! I always order the house salad because it comes with the most delicious orangy gingery salad dressing! I'm seriously addicted to it. I usually get the Viking (shrimp tempura, salmon, avocado). The shrimp are always perfectly cleaned and the shell is cut all the way up to the top so I can eat every last bite of it. Goes to show the chefs really pay attention to detail!

I am flat picky with my sushi, and have had some of the best in the Northwest and in Japan. For the price, quality freshness, friendly service, and clean atmosphere you simply cannot go wrong here. I recommend the spicy tuna roll and salmon & tuna poke. Excellent value and price happy hour menu. Go here before you spend twice the amount downtown.

Amazing staff and amazing sushi for the Boise area! They know their regulars and what you like if you have been enough. Excellent specials to and prices for what you get. They also deliver now but I haven't tested it! Great happy hour and lunch special :)

Had lunch a Sakana Vista today and I am addicted! The rolls were presented with care and fresh. the lunch was not heavy in this hot weather. Mei (owner) was there and checked to make sure our lunch was what we expected. It was more! Thank you for the great community Sushi and more!

Got a bonus side of food poisoning which they didn't even charge me which was very generous of them. Got real friendly with the toilet after throwing up for what felt like 237 hours.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Tuesday, and there was almost no one inside, but after we ordered, the restaurant began to fill up with young couples. We ordered the Avocado Salad to start, which was fantastic! It is a little tower of avocado, imitation crab, and shrimp. We also ordered the Pink Lady roll, the Mamasan roll, and the Fantastic roll. We loved the first two, but the texture of the scallops in the Fantastic roll was a little squishy for our taste. It wasn't bad, and many may like it, but it was just our personal preference. The service was great, the waiters were very friendly, and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone.

I really wanted to love this place more than I did. The people were wonderful! Smiles everywhere, a warm personal greeting and very attentive service. The presentation was excellent. My rolls were tightly packed and flawless. But alas, the fish was sub-standard. Had to throw several pieces of my nigiri away because I couldn't bite through the fish. I sure give these guys five stars for effort though. Hoping my experience was just a bad delivery of fish that day..

Very pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed the food. Service was very friendly and attentive. Sushi was priced great and quality was top notch. Rolls could be a bit better, but you can't go wrong with the Nigiri. We will be back.

Friendliest staff in town, flat out. Great memory too - they'll remember you and if you've told them your name, they'll take that as a privilege and remember you personally. Despite some language barrier issues, they will try to be more vocally pleasant than native speakers. So impressed with these people, great human beings. More smiles here than the Disney channel and the food is my #1 sushi pick in town.

I go here about once a month for lunch. It's a solid little sushi spot on Vista. I think there lunch specials are great. My favorite is their salmon dish. You get a bowl of soup, huge piece of salmon, a roll of sushi, and some veggies for $6 something. It's a great deal. BSU students also get a 10% discount.

Great lunch specials (Bento Box), sushi is good, and happy hours is great. Can't think of one significantly negative thing to say. The other location on S. Eagle road is just as good.

If you don't order sake you're just doing it wrong. It was great. Although my close friend--a sushi snob--feels the sushi chef tried to pass off a cheaper piece of fish than that which he ordered. I, however, could not tell the difference and really enjoyed both the service and the food!
