Best Sushi place in Idaho! Went with Luke and Martin. Mike's Roll had maraschino cherries and mango on top. Red Flower Roll was gooey cream cheese inside and was deep-fried. Bloody Mary Roll was light and refreshing with the bloody mary mix in the sauce. Cajun Tuna Roll was OK with the spices, and seared tuna. Waiter/owner was very cool.

In looking for a sushi restaurant in the area, I read a few of the reviews for Maru Sushi. I decided to go there for my birthday dinner. I was not disappointed. The sashimi was fresh and had good size pieces. We also had the Naruto Kiku roll, the Jimbo & the Bloody Mary rolls. Very tasty!! The correct amount of rice and nice portion of fish. We have found our new sushi place for the Boise area!

Luckily happened to stumble across this place while in town. And by far met and exceeded any expectations for a strip mall sushi joint. But wow this place is killer. Hands down some of the best sushi I have ever had. Great fresh ingredients, amazing presentation, and very nice atmosphere. Must go to place in Boise Idaho!!!!

Update: So Nice I Went There Twice! I was in Boise for two days so after finding Maru my first day (Thanks, Yelp!) and enjoying it so much, where else would I eat the next day? Today I had a chance to chat with the two brothers who own Maru. They are committed to delivering the best sushi available. They order directly from Japan for most ingredients and hand-select everything else to ensure the finest quality. I had a repeat of the 911 (It's really good!) and, at their suggestion for something else spicy, I tried the Red Samurai - which was excellent. Enjoy! (My first review): An easy five stars. Go there with the right expectations: Really great sushi in a strip mall restaurant. It is very clean and friendly and well-lit inside, but not fancy. They serve both cold and hot sake. I asked for their spicy rolls and they suggested the red flower and the 911. I also had the Mike's role based on yelp reviews and it was delicious.

Giving them three stars because they have been so good in the past. Last night was embarrassing, however, as we waited two hours to have a few drinks and a few appetizers. Customers walked out, tables sat unbussed and peoples' attitudes, including my large party's, got stinky. They explained that a server had called out sick, but we still felt that sushi wasn't being put out fast enough for the number of customers they had. We will give them another shot; however, I doubt my in laws will. Kind of sucks for Maru, as my father in law was trying to drop three hundred or so on a big, family, celebratory dinner to celebrate buying a new house and their moving to Boise. I'm guessing they'll probably try some other restaurants when they finally move here. We still think it's the freshest fish in town, but worry when they can't service a restaurant that wasn't even completely full.

Best sushi in town and we have tried a lot of places around town. This place has good sushi. We got the Jumbo 10 piece roll (HUGE!! delicious with shrimp tempura and crab), 911 (so spicey, jalapeños and tuna), Cajun Tuna (not bad, spicey but didn't like the dry seasoning on top of Sriracha - made me cough) and Crunch (really good, crunchy shrimp tempura with sweet after taste). Neat place but music was a little odd:), sorry. What's with the love songs and R&B music? Maybe something more relaxing. A bit louder so you don't hear the table next to you talking. - Overall great experience. Very clean place. Wonderful, friendly customer service. Will definitely be back. Great hole in the wall type of a spot. Highly recommended !!

Wow Maru is by far the best in the Treasure Valley! We moved here from California so we know good sushi. I worked at a sushi restaurant in California for a long time so I know what is good sushi, and Maru is good! Their rolls are always great and the fish is always fresh. The Mikes roll is awesome! The Rainbow #2, Red Flower, to many favorites to choose from. Trust me when I say you will NOT be disappointed! Victor and his brother own it and Victor is an awesome dude! He'll take great care of you!
(5)Joseph D.
This place is, by far, the best sushi in Boise! The menu is reasonably priced and the service is outstanding! Our order took less than 10 minutes to come out and the waitress was very friendly and personable.

My husband and I were very very impressed. The restaurant is very small but elegant. This is owned by the original owners of Teriyaki Time, they sold it about 5 years ago and the 2nd owners recently closed. We were sooo happy to see our old friends again. The rolls are much fancier than before. We loved the rolls at TT and we even love them more now! We had the Titanic roll w/ salmon, avo, and with tuna on top. It sounds pretty standard but it was so good and fresh! I think they have the freshiest fish in town! We also had Mike's Roll (Mike is the owner/sushi chef) now this one was special it has mango on top and crab and then shrimp tempura spicy tuna avo, tobiko. I had been wanting to try a mango roll since I saw some at Fred Meyer. But this was much much better! We were so impressed!! We had a rainbow roll with tuna on top which was awesome as always. And the EC roll with has some really tasty bbq'd eel. It tasted a lot different than what we had and we are huge eel freaks. There are so many rolls and so many varieties that we want to try. They give you plenty of fish and don't overload on the rice. They have some interesting things on the menu that I cant wait to try like Salmon Tartar and stuffed Orange with salmon and crab in it! They have Katsu and teriyaki dishes too! Please go to Haru! You will not be disappointed! I cannot wait to go back! This place is a delight and we are happy that they are back!

I was a bit confused with which way to go here. Good decor. Service was not terrible. In fact nothing was terrible, I just had high expectations possibly. I ordered a salmon and spicy tuna roll thinking this was a combined roll so the confusion was probably just me although I was looking forward to seeing what kind of combination that made. So both rolls came out and each had 8 pieces to them, however the sizes were very bite size to a little small. I mean a child could easy handle each bite or piece. In fact I combined 2 pieces together and although it was a bit more than a mouthful it wasnt obscene. Maybe I am use to having to open a bit wider for a piece of sushi. Very little fish. Then I got my rainbow roll. Very nice presentation, bite size pieces that I am use to and plenty of fish and avocado. One of the best rainbow rolls I have eaten. All from the same chef so I was disappointed and then impressed all in the same meal. Nice dining room but not very busy for lunch. Price was affordable and not obscene. You could definately take a date here and be able to have a great conversation as it is cozy and quite even though the couple that was there together spent more time looking at their phones than each other. Must have been married. Anyway back to the sushi........ I just left their confused as to how I was going to rate the place. I definately wouldnt want anyone with as high expectation to go and be disappointed. However on the other hand it is not bad at all. The chef does have a good presentation of the food and I like what he does with the cucumbers in his rolls. If the 2 starter rolls were bigger the place would have got another star, but 5 stars no. I didnt try the nigiri which is my favorite so to be fair I will have to go back and try that.

This is the BEST sushi in the Valley Hands Down. The owners were great - the roles where the best I have had in a long time. The one star rating really was unjustified and not supported by all the other reviews. We all know people that are seldom happy with anything especially when you get your roles for free or little cost. I have nothing against the person with the low star review, but I really received great service as I was very happy with the food, company, and atmosphere was great. They will give you whatever roll you want but they have some great rolls - I had the Red Flower - it was great & a custom roll. Ask them to surprise you - they have the freshest ingredients. Give them a try.

Was apprehensive about how good sushi could be in Boise but these guys delivered in spades. We started with sashimi tuna, it tasted fresh and was presented well. We had a few specialty rolls, Mikes roll, Dragon roll, and the red flower. All were excellent; delicious and nice presentation without being overly elaborate. Mikes roll lived up to the reputation in other reviews, very unique. The baked mussels were some of the best I've ever had, fresh and meticulously prepared. The tempura fried strawberry cheesecake ice cream was a great end to the meal, and at every turn our service was prompt, professional and courteous. I've had sushi all over both US coasts and these guys can compete with any of them. We'll be back soon!
(5)Darell M.
this place sucks. the sushi is raw and its really full of fish! just kidding. great food and great service.. try it out :)
(5)Honey H.
It was my husband and I's first time here. The location makes you think, wow this place looks dead, but it's a really nice place to enjoy delicious fresh fish. We ordered the salmon sashimi and the Yellowtail sashimi. Which were absolutely amazing, because the slices were not too thick and not too thin. They were just prefect. And my husband realized that he enjoyed Yellowtail more than salmon. Salmon had always been our favorite, since most places only offer salmon sashimi alone, but this restaurant has Yellowtail as a sashimi plate. My husband ordered the sushi combo because I wanted miso soup; the sushi combo has miso soup coming with it. I ordered the Mike's roll, just because it sounded pleasing and has all the ingredients that I like, plus there's diced mango on top. Our orders came out and we finished our dishes, but my miso soup did not. We asked the sushi chef about the miso soup and he apologized and offered us desserts, but I only wanted the soup. So he got the server to bring me a bowl of miso soup, which he offered to get both my husband and I one, but my husband declined. The miso soup was my dessert, which I was greatly satisfied with. Very nice staff, great sushi, and great atmosphere to be in.

Pleasantly surprised by this little gem. Food was phenomenal. Ordered a little bit of everything and left full and happy. Service is a little slow for food but drinks were kept full and the vibe was nice and relaxed so it wasn't a big deal. New take on some of the rolls but the classics were great too like a regular California. I highly suggest the stuffed oranges appetizer. Small but amazing! Staff was very friendly and welcoming!
(4)Carol R.
With all the tasty reviews for the Mike's Roll, I just had to try it out as my first roll here. DELICIOUS!!!! For me, a dot of Siracha on top would have taken it up off the chart delish for me. We were there early, so we sat at the bar. Great service. They sufficed my daughters love of ginger with an endless supply. We will be going back. Cons....closed on Mondays, and a bit pricey on the lunch menu. I'm sticking to the yummy rolls.
(5)Jennifer A.
Only negative thing I could even say would be the wait for food delivery. Other than that wonderful!
(4)Eli S.
I don't claim to be a sushi connoisseur but I love getting it whenever my wallet gives me the opportunity. Because I am a poor student, I am usually faced with the choice of going to an all-you-can-eat and getting a ton of decent sushi or a nicer place and getting a good amount of really fresh sushi. Maru Sushi falls into the latter category but it was well worth the price. The waitress was very helpful and friendly and helped us pick a good all around selection of rolls. We were lucky enough to go during Happy Hour so they had good deals on several popular rolls. We were amazed at the quality and l left full, satisfied, and wanting more. Don't be turned off by the strip mall location. Maru Sushi is a high caliber sushi establishment
(5)Misty J.
Was the best sushi I have had in Boise. Cannot wait to go back!
(5)Ms. R.
Still superb! I love that the sushi isn't made with a ton of rice. Forgot to mention they have low-sodium soy sauce on every table. I might just go back tonight for dinner...excellent sushi, great atmosphere for digestion.
(5)Karen C.
Love sushi. Tried everything in Boise. This is the best. Seriously. Order the salmon sashimi. Then any other roll is fantastic!
(5)Ashley V.
LOVE this sushi place. My husband and I go out to sushi at least once a month and this is one of those places that it is always a hit. Unique rolls and very nice staff! Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
(5)Kurt W.
I was in town for work and this place was top notch! I ate lunch which consisted of a rainbow roll, rose roll, and Yellowtail sashimi. Steve the sushi chef was very cordial and slot of fun to chat with.
(5)rose j.
We had lunch today at what I think is one of the best and freshest sushi joint here in the valley. The roll were big and tasty. Victor our server was polite and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was also very knowledgeable on each item on the menu. We mentioned it was a birthday lunch and he then surprised us with a dessert that was made special for us (not on the menu) it was delish....the whole lunch was, can't wait to go back!!!
(5)Cassie M.
This is my favorite SUSHI in Boise. It's a cute little shop but the sushi is to die for. I love it. I would recommend it to anyone that loves a good roll and for not too expensive cost.
(5)Robin S.
Mediocre at best. Wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. Maybe I'm spoiled coming from the bay area. The selection was super slim too! The Hamachi was a little chewy... ick.
(2)Barb L.
There is a very good reason Maru has such great ratings. Perfectly prepared....very fresh and extremely delicious! Try Maru it is seriously the best!!!!!
(5)C S.
Wow, great hidden treasure! Had dinner last night, awesome service and great food! Must go check these guys out!
(5)Mahesh B.
The best sushi place in boise hands down. Was never a big sushi fan until I ate here. Love their menu and great prices. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a good sushi joint.
(5)Steve H.
Very good service and great food. Lots of choices on the menu. Will definitely go back.
(4)Gisele X.
Since moving to Boise I've found Maru Sushi to be my favorite. I live and work a few miles away but will trek out of my way for my sushi fix. The owners and staff recognize me every time I come in and I am appreciated. Steve always presents a delicious and beautiful plate as do his assistants. Every visit since my initial visit they've had excellent cuts of my beloved octopus, and they are growing their sake selection. You won't be disappointed if you appreciate fresh, delicious fish!
(5)Babygirl M.
They offered specialty rolls that were tasty and excellently prepared. We visited this restaurant by a recommendation from a friend and we're very pleased. Great customer service.
(5)Kim S.
Most rolls offered incorporate tempura in them. I thought I found one roll that was more traditional, the volcano roll, but the chef baked it until it was cooked throughout, ruining it. I have never had a roll prepared that way. Not the place for me, I like more traditional sushi fresh, raw rolls. Plus the waitress shouldn't lean up next to the sushi bar and watch customers eat, made us feel uncomfortable.
(1)Ali C.
We are new to the area, and decided to try this establishment after reading all the positive reviews it has. Let me just say, those sparkling reviews were *very* well-earned. The staff was warm and welcoming, and not to mention very accommodating as we had our two very young children with us. We had a bit of a wait for our sushi- but I won't complain, as we ordered four of the specialty rolls, and they do take time to put together properly. The food was absolutely, mouth-wateringly delicious, and the presentation was gorgeous. We absolutely loved the wide and varied selection of specialty rolls- both cooked and raw; there is absolutely something for everyone here. We can't wait to come back and try more!!
(5)Andrew C.
I went there because of the Yelp reviews and was disappointed. Service was somewhat iffy because they only had one server for the whole place. The sushi was just mediocre. I have both the nigiri sushi and some of their rolls. The spicy tuna hand roll was the best out of the bunch. Overall a decent place but not great. If it was in a larger western city, I'd give it 2 stars.
(3)KJ Evie D.
I will be back! The service was excellent and the sushi was fresh. I enjoyed how clean, the atmosphere was quieting and enjoyable. My son had a dragon and a crunch roll, I tried them both, the dragon had BBQ eel which was not my thing but the crunch roll was worth a try. I had a roll that featured asparagus; vegetarian. Really great even if you are not a veggie lover! Give this place a try and tell Victor I sent you!
(5)Natalie T.
Wonderful sushi! Beautifully presented ( the dragon roll even had fins and eyes!) with friendly service. Rainbow rolls are some of the best I've had!
(5)Greg S.
Absolutely amazing sushi. Great for anywhere, not only "for Boise." The salmon nigiri is all-world. We had amazing service for our visit, and will be back soon.
(5)Mike S.
I went here to pick up some rolls. This place is a good value. The rolls were made well and priced fairly. I had 3 rolls, one specialty, the Tokyo, and a standard California. The service was polite and helpful. I got a free squid salad for waiting for my to go order. The environment was surprisingly nice. I didn't have high expectations going in. I would go here again if I want sushi and am in the area. I would rank maru behind yoi tomo in bodo as best sushi I have tried.
(4)Josh B.
This is a great place to grab some sushi. Both guys in there are extremely nice. A review mentioned the lengthy wait and I believe it shows the care that was put into making these rolls. They seem to genuinely care about what they're doing and it shows. I didn't have a long wait but the plating was beautiful in addition to tasting amazing. Mike's roll is a new, fresh spin on sushi with diced mango and was delicious. Love this place!
(5)Ryan V.
The sushi was ok - the volcano was my favorite. But we waited nearly two hours for five rolls of sushi - and three of the rolls were super basic like California and spicy tuna. No lie - 2 hrs. We were actually planning on what restaurant we were going to go to next because 5 rolls weren't going to satisfy 4 people. If each roll didn't average nearly 20-30 minutes, we would have ordered more. After we pay the waiter (who was nice), he says, "we are sorry for such a long wait. We weren't expecting it to be so busy tonight. We were packed last night so we thought it would be slower" First, it was a Saturday night. How many restaurants don't expect to be busy on a Saturday night because their Friday night was busy??? Second, there was a total of three tables the whole time we were there. 3 tables is super busy? There weren't even people at the bar area - just three tables! Last comment - several of our rolls were falling apart when we picked them up. Nothing like having to eat sushi with a spoon because it's splattered all over your plate.
(1)Amber W.
Exceptional plating and food presentation. Everything we ordered was delicious. Seared Cajun tuna was incredible. Plus all 4 specialty roll were great: 911, Mike's, Red Samurai, and Red (?), although very spicy, more so than our normal "spicy level" Service was very friendly and prompt. We will definitely return.
(4)Brian K.
Loved it. Will come back for the halibut roll. Loved the red samurai roll too. Everything was good. New favorite sushi place hands down.
(5)Anne H.
Service was excellent, very clean restaurant, sushi was just okay. The menu is large but many of the rolls had very similar ingredients and few items really appealed to me so I tried to stick with ones that included things I usually like but was not impressed. Certainly this was in no ways a bad sushi place but it was nothing special and I don't see going back.
(3)Walt B.
The service was fantastic! Great overall atmosphere. The sushi was the best I have had in all of Boise. Highly recommend the Pink Panther and the 007 Roll. Will be eating there again in the near future.
(4)Brad K.
Great place for sushi! Sushi bar and tables. Clean atmosphere. The sushi was fresh and tasty. Prices were reasonable. The spicy tuna was exceptional, one of the best I have ever had! Miike's roll is highly recommended.
(5)Ana O.
Great sushi! We are definitely sushi snobs and would totally recommend this place. They really need to work on their service though. We were there with another group who seemed to be regulars from observing them on a name to name basis. The waiter paid more attention to them (our drinks were only refilled if we asked for it, never once did they refill them from noticing they were empty) then us. Remember you need new customers to keep your business growing, just as much as you need those regulars. I'd go back because we are sushi obsessed and 99% of Boise sushi sucks.
(4)Aaron D.
5 STAR ALL THE WAY! The food is always amazing here! What really pushes this place to be a five star establishment is the fact that the waiter and staff are extremely friendly and caring as you would hope to find at a neighborhood restaurant! Great job MARU!
(5)Jeff B.
We really enjoyed the sushi here. Fish seemed fresh considering we are landlocked here in Idaho. Friendly people and chill atmosphere. Give it a shot you will enjoy it.
(5)Mark J.
This place is great! The food was excellent and you won't find better service anywhere on the planet! Excellent husband and wife team. You seriously can't ask for better.
(5)Sophie S.
I think this is the best, most under-rated sushi in town. The presentation is always well thought out and lovely and the food is fresh and delicious.
(5)Tina M.
Great sushi, fun service it's slow, needs another sushi chef, food doesn't all come together so meal is a bit disjointed. Many great choices, everything was fresh n good. The Volcano was awesome. Definitely would return.
(4)Andy H.
Smallish, but a nice upscale sushi bar sort of decor. Felt comfortable. I could see taking the wife here for a date night, but it wasn't a fancy-smancy sort of place where you feel uncomfortable stopping by for lunch. The spicy tuna rolls were excellent - lots of flavor, and the spicy sauce added the perfect kick. Wasn't quite as impressed with the salmon rolls; decent salmon flavor, but lacked a certain something. Mildly spendy for lunch, but I'd say it was worth it. I'll be back, for sure.
(4)Michelle L.
I visited this place recently when I went to Idaho for business trip. This place is just Great for sushi & teriyaki!!!!! I love how fresh their sashimi are and their rolls are yummy yummy yummy! I would def visit this place when i go to Idaho. definitely 5 stars!!!!!
(5)J S.
This is literally the best sushi I've ever had. If you want wonderful service and fantasticly fresh and flavorful sushi, then look no further than Maru Sushi! You'll be stuffing down Crunch Rolls, Mike's Rolls, California Rolls, and more until there's no room left, then you might order a Jumbo Roll to go like we did! It's really that good. I highly recommend Maru Sushi to anyone who loves sushi or just wants to try it out. No better place to get hooked than Maru, you won't be disappointed!
(5)Krista R.
Yes, totally agree with Kim B. It's a great little place with a nice clean ambiance and tasty sushi. I had something very simple for lunch: spicy tuna and a cucumber roll, which I know is "beginner" sushi but it was very good. They serve limited beer and wine too. Will definitely be back on a regular basis.
