After having these cupcakes I cannot eat grocery store nor the box-mix cupcakes again without being disappointed. I would suggest buying the ones that have the icing that doesn't turn hard (see my picture). I've noticed that the type of icing used is important for their longevity and freshness as well as a texture feeling. The other type of frosting looks prettier, but is not as soft to bite, nor as tastier. My favorite is the red velvet cupcake. It's fun to try their seasonal cupcakes.

Loved the cupcakes. Customer service was great. Will come back next time we are in Boise.

Absolutely love these cupcakes! They are delicious, there is a wide selection and the presentation is adorable. If you haven't tried them, add it to your list of "Must Do's" today. Buy one for yourself, a co-worker or that someone special.

I was a fan of their Eagle location, so it's no surprise that I'm also a fan of their downtown B-town location. Their downtown locale is all darling, quaint, cupcake cuteness (Interpretation: it's small. Tiny, even. So, I would definitely plan to take your cupcake to go). That I could tell, they seem to carry all the flavors they do at their Eagle location, including an adorable array of baby cakes (such an awesome way to taste more than one flavor!). They don't bake on the premises (seriously, people, it's small. Like blink and you'll miss it) so you're subject to what they've been delivered that morning and once a cupcake flavor is gone...it's gone (for the day...don't panic...they'll have more tomorrow). My recommendations: Half Baked (chocolate cupcake with chocolate chip cookie dough baked into the middle), Salted Caramel (chocolate cupcake topped with salted caramel buttercream--seriously...to die for), and their chocolate peanut butter (chocolate cake, peanut butter frosting--I find this one solid but maybe a skosh too sweet). They rotate which flavors they carry each day but they do publish the days flavors on their website and facebook. If you order the day before, they'll have your cupcakes set aside for you when you get there. And, if you are in need of gluten free--no problem--just call the day before and they'll hook you up! Overall, a great addition to downtown Boise. Get to it!

I tried to place a custom order and I got very poor customer service. The lady was very rude and their prices are not worth it! She quoted me almost $600 for a dozen cupcakes with fondant flowers on it. No, you did not misread that number. Needless to say, I went another way. Very unimpressed.

Putting Boise's Cupcake Specialty Shops To The Test Thanks, in large part, to the steady popularity of food-themed media, Americans are quick to become infatuated with the food fad of the day. As we allow these trends to be fed to us, many cities across the nation will inevitably experience a surge in businesses capitalizing on whatever these food crushes happen to be. Rarely, however, do many of those eateries survive in the long-term, because after all, our appetites become satisfied. Yet appetites are insatiable, and the talking heads of television are happy to let us know what we should be eating next. The passing fancy of cupcakes notwithstanding. Every once in a while, a good eatery goes the distance. In Boise's case, there are three specialty shops that still boast cupcakes as the main attraction. The mission: to predict which of these businesses will continue to be prosperous and which of them (if any) are on the road to self-destruction. As an overview, what I found is that two of the three shops should, in the very least, be able to remain popular among die-hard cupcake fans. But one of them... well, I'll be surprised if they're still open in the next 12 months. The contenders were graded based on the cupcakes (taste, presentation, and texture), counter service, and store atmosphere. Here are the results for this business: Lilly Jane's Cupcakes (downtown location) This present-day Lilly Jane's is a huge improvement from the previous owner/operator, yet middle-of-the-road in taste and creative selection. They recently expanded into downtown Boise, and (at the time of this review) the original shop in Eagle is still in operation. When you step into the small, bright, downtown location, you'll experience a willingness-to-serve, peppy vibe from the counter service. Lilly Jane's frosting pushes the envelope of the sweetness scale, just below the "I can't... I just can't" line. So I still did. The cake itself is moist, and the flavors are what they claim to be. The bright colors of some of the cakes are bi-polar. It's attractive, in the sense of "Ooo! Colors! Pretty!," and a turn off, in the sense of being obviously artificial. Well, I guess that would make my opinion bi-polar, not the cake, but you get the point. Overall, a decent product and service. And despite the tight quarters in the downtown shop, there's still "room" for improvement at Lilly Jane's. --- Do you want to know how the other two cupcake specialty shops compare? Went here to try out there mini cupcakes on First Thursday. They have tons of different flavored and are presented very well. They tasted great and the prices are good for what you get. The wife loved them so we will be going back, and the ladies in there treated us very, very well!!

The Boise location of LIly Jane's in dangerously close to my office! :) I love their cupcakes, they are worth the cost- but I enjoy them only on occasion as treats. I stopped in one Friday evening just after work to pick up half a dozen cupcakes for a birthday. The young woman in the shop was friendly, and I was able to choose just the right selection of cupcakes (Salted Caramel, White w/Chocolate frosting and Strawberry). The birthday boy was thrilled and the waiters at the restaurant where we were dining (I brought the cupcakes in) kept stopping by to see if they could have one!
