First visit. Came in for an early dinner. Not at all busy. Service was pleasant but minimal. The booth seat on the far wall felt awkwardly bumpy to sit in until I adjusted a little to the left. The food was okay. A little bland. I've had better. I feel the portions were lopsided. The huge pile of rice, which is the only reason I walked out there full. Right now, the rating is middle of the road... and only because I want to come back to try the lunch buffet. But not in any rush to make that happen.

Delicious! Very fresh and complex flavors. The hummus was creamy and yummy. Real Turkish coffee! So glad we live in the neighborhood.

"You can't have your pudding if you don't eat your meat." Scolds the schoolmaster in Pink Floyd's The Wall. English boarding school cooks must not have been influenced by Afghan cuisine, post British occupation. Because you will have no problem eating your meat that Kabob House lays out before you on wide rectangular plates. The lamb, beef combo comes with a few veggies and a green chutney type dipping sauce that must have cilantro. Lamb is the perfect red meat because sheep are raised in smaller operations than other animals. These lamb kabobs honor the special status of this sacred animal. The spices and grilling deliver a spectacular flavor. No wonder we sacrifice lambs to the gods. The beef is good too but,... Did I mention the lamb? Thanks, Allah for providing! The side salad is large and lightly dressed. Every leaf was verdant, showing attention to freshness seldom seen even from the nearby Saladman (who should change his name to BagofPreservedSaladMan, by the way.) Green Persian Tea has cardamom spice which blends nicely with the other fare. Order a second pot for your final course. I'm speaking of the pudding, of course. Roger Waters probably would not have been such a sourpuss if he had some Shir Brenge (Brenj?) for dessert. The name literally means rice milk, but it is really Persian rice pudding. No wonder the Iranian Guardians of the Revolution are so zealous. This rice pudding is worthy of fanatic fundamentalism. Kabob House reminds me that South Central Asian food is top of the world. Thanks for opening in Boise to jog my memory of travels long ago. Spend an afternoon here (buffet ends at 2:30) and chillax with the afternoon crowd, drink a third pot of tea, and write something about Anglo-Afghan encounters.

Recently went for lunch. There were four options for lunch, ranging from $6-8. The buffet apparently does not run during the summer months. I ordered the chicken kabob. The meat was tender and flavorful, the dipping sauce was delicious, and the rice was very good, no need for extra sauce.

Will give it five star without a doubt . The food, service, everything is really good here. The beef kebab are the awesomest

I have been going to Kabob House on a semi-regular basis over the past year and I am happy to say that i like the place even more than I did when they opened. The Rib Kabob is my favorite plate--they grill the lamb to perfection (cliche, but true) and the cilantro chatni is a superb sauce for the already well-seasoned lamb. The Sambosas are fried, golden packets of delightful potato, lentils, and ground beef/lamb. These have been around culturally since the 10th century, and for good reason. The Ashe soup is an appetizer, but in reality an entire meal. This soup is exotically spiced, yet still comfort food. It works particularly well as hangover-recovery food. The service is perfectly marvelous. Once, we had an out-of-town visitor whom we absolutely HAD to take to Kabob House. We got back from traveling just before the restaurant closed, yet with ten minutes left in their business day, they let us in and treated us as honored guests. I got to sit in the low couches and devour late-night lamb and sambosas chased with Baltica beer. Our guest was knocked out by the quality of the food and the hospitality. Don't worry--we tipped accordingly. If you live in west Boise (or elsewhere) and you are thinking of going to the new Jack in the Box, Five Guys, or Firehouse subs change your destination and try Kabob House. You will not regret it, though those other places will.

This was my first experience with Mediterranean food and I really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and helpful. The kabobs my sister and I had were tender and flavorful. The lamb was cooked perfectly. I look forward to coming back to try more items on the menu.

Pretty fly! I've eaten a ton of afghan food throughout the US. This is good, especially for boise. I'm not going to wax on about how delicious the scrumtious sultry meat pieces tasted after they had been fully masticated.....and stuff. It's good. It's tasty. They can cook lamb medium rare. 7 day a week buffet with many vegetarian options for $10. Done/over. Go and eat.
(5)Hannah H.
Delicious and authentic! I highly recommend! The beef ravioli/dumplings were amazing!

Lovely service, amazing food. It's very easy to overcook meat, especially when it's not in a sauce. In fact, overcooking meat is kind of standard in many Boise restaurants. Not so at Kabob House, where food is delicately cooked and deliciously marinated. Dipping sauces are bright and lovely. Even the rice was lightly seasoned and perfectly cooked (too often it's over- or undercooked as well). I had the mixed kabob--lamb and a beef, both perfect and tender. My dad had curry, which was a different kind of curry as I've had elsewhere. More like a curry gravy. Not as good as the kabobs, but still tasty. Atmosphere is tasteful and evokes the middle east. You barely remember you're in a strip mall. Our server was very attentive and sweet without being overbearing. I'll be back!

Exceptional service, terrible food. Sodium loaded, not "grilled to perfection". Even the naan tasted like I was licking a salt block.

I tried out this place for dinner. I went in on a Sunday night, thinking I'd probably be the only one there. Surprisingly, there were a couple of families there already. The decor in this place is beautiful; there are lovely embroidered pictures above the seats, and in front of the windows, there are some seats surrounding hookahs. I'm not sure if the hookahs are functional (probably not, given Boise's anti-smoking law), but they add a very nice touch to the place. They're placed a little lower on the floor, which brings back fond memories of dining in Japan, and it really gives that ethnic feel. The seating stools are very colorful with embroidered details. I ordered Sambusas to start, you get three with the order. They are very well sized (read: huge) and served with a spicy green sauce. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Then I ordered the Combo Kabob with chicken and lamb. The server came back a few minutes later and said they were out of the boneless, and asked if I would be okay with the tandoori chicken, which had bones, which was fine to me. When it came to me, it was very good. Both meats were cooked well and were very tender. I ordered the naan with it; not the best naan I've had, it was dry. After that, I ordered the Galub Jumin, which was excellent! I've had many versions of this Indian dessert, and this one had the best doughnut feeling of them all. I love how this place combines several elements of Indian, Afghan and Mediterranean cuisine. There is something here for everyone to enjoy. Even if you're bringing someone who is a picky eater or not adventurous, they can easily pick the kabobs while you have curry. I will definitely try out the lunch buffet. Kabob House also has great prices. I ordered an appetizer, entree, dessert and a drink and my pre-tip amount was still under $20. The only reason I didn't give this place a full 5 stars is because 1.) I had to ask for a refill, 2.) the naan was too dry to enjoy. My biggest pet peeve is the servers not refilling on a normal basis. Other than that, great place! I will be back and I'd love to sit with my friends around the hookah.

Stopped in for lunch for my first visit at Kabob House. It was a late lunch in the middle of the week at 1:30 pm and there was nobody there except me. Service was prompt and my meal was served fairly quickly. I had the beef Tekka Kabob. It was delicious. Seasoning was very tasty and the beef was cooked perfect and was very tender. The salad was very fresh and came with a very tasty dressing. While there another couple arrived who were regulars. The owner came out and visited with them and then stopped by my table to make sure all was okay. Be sure to try Kabob House and enjoy their Middle Eastern food.

Just got back from my first visit to Kabob House on Emerald and Maple Grove. Great place! The spices are different from what I've tried before.. not hot, but pleasantly warm and subtle. Not as strong as Indian food. I had the chicken kabobs (served without kabob stick), and a house salad with very simple but tasty dressing.. olive oil, lemon juice, some spices. There was a sort of guacamole sauce for the chicken pieces. The sauce didn't taste like Mexican guacamole (which I also like), but had its own flavor. It was good. I tried some of my relative's dishes. I forget the name of what my mom had, but it was rather good.. a bowl of chicken and sauce with some bismati rice. My dad had ground beef kabobs and rice. The salad I had was quite large for a side salad. My mom tried the Persian rice pudding and quite liked it. We were all pleased. Prices.. $10-$12 for most items on the menu. The food portions are not very large. I'm a big guy, 6'3" and 210 lbs. If I hadn't had some of my relatives' food besides what I'd ordered, I still would have been hungry. But for most people, the portion sizes should be big enough. The price is worth it for the uniqueness of the food. Some nice decorations, rather interesting music, good service. Very pleasant. Great place for a date, I think. I was told there's a buffet from 11-2, and the cost is $9.99. That sounds awesome! I'll definitely be back.. and hopefully soon.

My friends, wife and I dined at the Kabob House recently. We were all impressed by the polite and attentive staff, the clean decor and menu. I have served in Afghanistan and am very familiar with the local food in Kabul. The food we enjoyed at the Kabob House met all my expectations, and then some. I had the qabulli pallou. It was delicious.
(4)Andrea S.
Delicious lamb kabob for lunch! Tender, juicy, and just the right spices. I will be back.
(5)Brittany K.
Stopped by here on our trip cross country and it turned out to be one of the best meals I had the entire way. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan and Lamb Kabob and all of it was amazing. What I nice little surprise in Boise. I would highly recommend this place!
(5)Sydney F.
A co-worker and I just had lunch at the Kabob House and it was so good I wanted to come straight here and write a review. They were slammed when we arrived but took the time to thank us for coming and apologized that the food time may be a little longer than usual. If our server hadn't of mentioned it I truly wouldn't have noticed so I look forward to the even faster service in the future! We split a turkish coffee, the Bolani appetizer, and each got the lamb kabob lunch special. Everything tasted fantastic, was beautifully presented, good portions, and the service was thoughtful and kind. I definitely recommend the Kabob House and look forward to returning for dinner too!

Food is great here. It's a laid back, friendly, and unique atmosphere. Go during buffet time for the best deal (or if you're looking for more vegetarian options than 2 or 3). Definitely would be nice to see more of those vegetarian dishes in the buffet making the standard menu.

This is one of my favorite new spots...I love how authentic the food and atmosphere is...there is some old reminders of past restaurants but all in all a great place. I tried the chicken tikka masala...yumm! Just enough spice to remind you that you are alive! All of the staff including the ladies in the back are mediterranean, reminds me of an old grandma cooking for the family, straight awesome! Fyi...lunch buffet is thursday-friday for 8.99/person. Go try it...you won't be dissapointed!
(5)Andrea D.
This is the way Mediterranean food should taste in the states. My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. The waitress was attentive and very helpful in explaining the menu. We ordered a potato appetize, chicken kabobs and chicken tikka masala for our main course. The food was amazing! I'm incredibly picky about the quality of my food and I wanted to lick my plate. We can't wait to try the lunch buffet!
(5)Nima M.
The food was very good. The chicken kabob was among the best I have had in America. Their "dogh", yoghurt, drink was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Great service and great food. Lamb ribs are fantastic!
(5)John S.
Truly one of the best Kabob houses as well as one of the best restaurants all around. Not only the place had friendly service, but the food was top notch. We got the family dinner which came with different assortments of lamb, chicken, beef, and ground meat thingy. Everything was well balanced and perfectly seasoned. We also got the samosas and the dough was light, flakey, and not doughy at all. The ingredients inside the samosas were also well seasoned. The cumin which I was usually not a big fan off was not over powering. Superb dining experience all around. A must go-back-to destination.
(5)Amy R.
Great Mediterranean food! The Tekka Lamb Kabob is juicy and flavorful. Even the Basmati rice has flavor. Boise...go open yourselves to new dining experiences and try the Kabob House. I know it's hard but break out of chain restaurant boredom. Experience real flavors and food!

I tried this place for their lunch buffet (close to work) and really enjoyed it. While it may not have as much of a selection as some of the other Indian/Mediterranean buffets in the region, all of the food was fresh and tasty. They had 3 chicken dishes (my preference anyway) and the service was spot on. Definitely in my lunch rotation!

I have no idea why I haven't come here sooner. We followed a woman in who was holding huge catering pans. She stopped right then and there in the door and explained they'd catered her huge family gathering and repeated like 9 times how much she loved this place. Had kabobs. They were good. The lamb is exceptional. Fresh green salads. Some can't-find-anywhere-else cardamom tea. We'll return. BTW - for largish parties, they have very nice coach/cushion seating. Makes you want to bring a group!
(5)Liam S.
The food here was delicious. We came in with few expectations, and plenty of curiosity. The food served was unique, delicious, and filling. We'll definitely be back for more. Beyond that, our host was efficient and his ideology behind his cooking were fantastic. When we asked why they closed the buffet, he informed us the food should be served fresh, and between throwing out too much food, and not being able to serve it very fresh, we were more than content with the answer.
(5)Stephen M.
I found the food to be reasonably tasty, but not memorable. And it was rather expensive for what you get. If I find myself really wanting Mediterranean or middle eastern food, I'd eat here again.
(3)Susie S.
Excellent food. Lamb and chicken we're fantastic. Tender and juicy with loads of flavor! Hummus was delicious and tasty pita. Excellent service and great place for lunch. Definitely will go back!
(5)Allen P.
What a great kabob food restaurant! Clean, the staff is friendly and the food is great. Location might be hard to find due to being in a strip mall, west of blimpie in the same complex north west corner on maple grove and emerald. Lunch is the best value try the lamb kabobs, portions are good and the taste is soooo good. I would recommend The beef and chicken curry. Wife and I come for lunch often so we might see you there.
(5)Autumn B.
The lamb kebab lunch special was just right! Cilantro sauce and rice and salad tasted fresh, not too spicy but not too boring. The service was great, I always drink a lot of water and rarely have it refilled enough, but these guys were very on top of checking in and refills, even when the place was near full during lunch hours. I spent less money here then I would have at Blimpies next door, but got to eat lamb for lunch!

We are overjoyed to find such a delicious restaurant in Boise. Thanks Yelp for steering us to such a great find! We went to The Kabob House early in the evening on a Saturday. It was empty, but they were happy to seat us. We were unsure of what to expect from the outside--it's located in a strip mall--but the restaurant's interior was a pleasant surprise. It's tastefully decorated and in addition to the expected tables and a few booths, they have two authentic-looking seating cushion areas. They are done in ornate red silk and really add to the ambiance, and though we did not sit there on this visit, I'm looking forward to trying it in the future. To begin our meal, we ordered an appetizer of pitas and hummus. It was spectacular. The hummus had delicate notes of lemon and garlic and was topped with a wonderful olive oil that tasted pleasantly herbal and green. Several people in our party of 9 called it the best hummus they'd ever eaten. We could have used more pita bread, though, and that left the dish a little out of balance. In the end we scooped up the extra hummus with spoons and ate it that way (as it was tasty enough that we didn't want to waste it). We ordered several entrees and without exception, they were superb. The chicken kabob was tender and juicy and full of flavor. The lamb was even better--mild, succulent, and not at all "gamey" as bad lamb can be. One diner at our table had the rib kabobs (small lamb chops) and declared it to be the best lamb he'd ever eaten. The beef curry was fantastic, as was the chicken tikka masala. We also loved the lentil soup and wish we could identify the spices they used to make the dish at home. The service was good, the price is great, especially for the quality of the food. We think our meal was on par with food we've had at Barbacoa, Chandler's, Epi's or Berryhill, but at a quarter the price. We look forward to trying their lunch buffet, which has many of these same dishes available, but for even less money. This is our new favorite. We give it our highest recommendation.

There really wasn't anything terribly bad about this place, but nothing that made me jump for joy. Off the bat, I thought there was a buffet option (which I choose so I get some variety0. There wasn't. I opted for the lamb tekka kabob lunch special (roasted lamb bits, rice, salad...). I've had arab / indian / mediterranean salads like this before, so nothing too special. The lamb was nicely done, but kind of boring. Rice is rice. As for service, I had a young guy who was pretty attentive at first, but sort of didn't care to give me any more water. In the end, a nice, polite older gentleman did refill my water, but it was as I was leaving. If you're staring at this restaurant, just look around for Maru Sushi or Saladman, which are mind-blowingly awesome by comparison.

A delightful and delicious lunch! After reading a few other reviews, my friend and I were very skeptical. High stars, but low reviews - something didn't add up. Well, it's true, the booths for more than two would be uncomfortable and the buffet is a thing of the past, but I can say that the food was awesome and having the place to ourselves was not a problem. I already want to go back so I hope the review forecast is wrong and they are not going out of business anytime soon! We both enjoyed the chicken kabob lunch special - the perfect amount of food although I could have kept eating because the flavor was phenomenal. I also tried the Turkish coffee and was glad I did - it too was delish. Two thumbs up from me

I decided to try this place out because of the great reviews that I read on Yelp and I was in the mood for some good Mediterranean food but I ended up completely disappointed!!!! I came at about 1pm to try out the lunch buffet that I had read about and seen advertised as well. I immediately got a bad vibe when I walked in the door and the was only two customers sitting at a table during the busy part of lunch hour. The sign said "seat yourself" and the host sitting behind it didn't even acknowledge our existence, say hello, nothing. So we went ahead and decide to sit at a booth against a wall. When we sat down it felt like the booth cushion was going to explode and have springs pop out. It was the most uncomfortable booth I have ever sat in. WTH??? I saw a lunch menu at the table but no mention of the $8.95 buffet that is advertised. I suggest to the two other people I came with to go take a look at the buffet set up they had to see if it was worth it because I was really skeptical by now. They both came back and said there were no items there which I thought was weird. During this all this time we decided that the booth was just too uncomfortable so we moved to a table and began to look at the menu. I was nervous because one of the persons in my party is vegetarian and notice only a couple of menu items suitable. She said she would pass because nothing sounded appetizing to her. Finally the server who was also the apathetic host came by to ask us if we wanted anything to drink. I asked about the buffet and he said they no longer do the buffet. I said we would drink water and think about what to order. He walked away looking semi bothered. Interestingly enough the 2 gentlemen at the other table were observing us the whole time and one of them started to talk to me. He said that their booth ( a fancy low table with pillows for seats) were also very uncomfortable. He said the food tasted dry and horrible and was too expensive. I don't mind paying higher prices but the food better be good. He said it was the first and the last time he would be eating there. His friend just looked embarrassed to be there. I thanked him from letting us know. I notice by this time that our server was just sitting down reading a paper and not even getting us water. Our party mutually agreed to get the heck out of there rather than drag on a bad experience. The server/host actually looked relieved when we left. Upon leaving it also dawned on me that the place looked like it was just practically going out of business. So glad we left and went to Bombay Grill instead for lunch buffet and fresh food and nice owners who were happy to see us. If I could give zero stars to this place I would do it. If you are one of those people who really like this place you should go soon because it will be out of business at the rate that they are going and rightfully so. This experience was like something bizarre out of the twilight zone. Strange and disappointed.
