Expanded menu, little janky, and family run. However, amazing chicken kebabs!! Hands down, probably the best mediterranean chicken I have eaten in many years. Excellent and unique seasoned rice with a pre-meal spiced soup that was delicious. The menu is much larger than last year. However, stick with the chicken...for reals. It is better than any other med-food I have had in Boise with the exception of 1 Mazzah dish.

I really enjoy the use of spices in everything, and the chicken is really special. The flavors are most unique for Boise. I'm sure some people will not enjoy the food as much as I do, but it is always a pleasure to eat here. I agree with others the ambiance and service could be improved. But I go there for the food and the rest doesn't bother me.

I LOVE the sandwich here. The bread tastes like it just came from the oven. I think they make their own bread right there. And it's so reasonable, like $5, but it still fills your stomach well! Also Baba ghannouj is the most delicious one I ever had!

This place has, in my opinion, the best hummus in the valley. It's also the first place that I experienced the phenomenon of putting Frank's RedHot sauce onto hummus. Give it a try, I'll bet you'll be surprised. The hummus in combination with their in-house baked bread is an inexpensive and tasty appetizer (or meal, if you're like me). As for the entrees, I've found the chicken kabobs to be the least dry and most flavorful. However, I haven't had anything aside from the hummus here in over a year, and things may have changed. 4 Stars for the delicious hummus and bread.

Dropped in to get some halavah to bring back to SoCal. The halavah was very bitter and not very fresh. We were very disappointed and will not go back.

being middle eastern, i am a. critical, b. always curious about places that claim to be authentic. this place feels pretty authentic. the store front is your average ME import store, with a restaurant area off to the side. i ordered the ishtar platter, which is a combo plate with chicken kabobs, ground meat kabob (lula), and falafel with a grilled tomato, charred onion, raw onion with sumac, some chopped veggies and rice. the meat was a tiny bit dry but the chicken was simply incredible. everything else was great also. i am a sucker for falafel, and theirs was amazing. they brought me complimentary hummus and hot bread, which was also quite tasty. for dessert i had tea and baklava. the baklava was so-so (i've had better, i've also had less good...in three different countries) and the tea was not what i was expecting. at least it was sadaf tea bags and not random earl grey stuff, but i was expecting authentic tea from a kettle or samovar or something. tea bags just aren't the same. over all, the food was pretty good and the prices were fair, and the service was great. if i were to go back, i would probably just go straight for the taok kabob plate or the falafel plate, and skip the combo.

Delicious, succulent kabob! Great hummus and fresh bread. Added bonus: get your groceries while you wait for your food to be prepared!

Best kabob in Boise by far... and the khoobz (warm, fresh homemade bread) is outstanding!

Maybe our expectations were set too high based on Yelp reviews. We walked in expecting a Middle Eastern market and cafe where we could find freshly prepared Middle Eastern foods like hummus or tabbouleh or fatoush in a case along with a well stocked market and a few eat in tables for meals. We found the last one but not the first two. We have shopped Middle Eastern markets in a number of cities and this was a disappointing experience by any measure. To keep it real for Yelp I have to say we would not go back.. VIBE We greeted the young guy behind the counter warmly as we entered and he did the same in return. We were the only customers in the disorganized market that seemed to have limited inventory on nearly all items yet as we looked around we were not asked if there was something we were looking for as the guy behind the counter was totally engaged with his phone. FOOD We went in looking for food as take out, maybe the items described in the opening of this review and other things like pita, olives, babaganoush...we were looking for Mezze plate items to take back to our hotel. With no fresh food case in sight and only what seemed a half full tray of a pastry that looked as if it had been there a long while in one display near the counter, I finally asked the guy behind the counter if they had these kind of food to go items. He handed me a café menu. We ordered dolmasm hummus and some pita to go. The hummus also had olive oil and garbanzo beans on top for presentation and the dolmas came with a few olives and marinated veggie salad. But neither were more than OK in comparison to the many different places we've ordered and enjoyed these dishes including two Middle Eastern dine and take out cafes in my little town. The pita was excellent. Can't beat the price as the total bill was under $8. But even at a low price, not a good enough experience to draw us back in. MARKET There were staples of things like lentils, beans and jars of olives, much of which can be found in other grocers although perhaps not imported from the same places. They also had harder to find Middle Eastern specialty items like date syrup and pomegranate molasses. Boxes on the floor contained fresh produce like baby eggplant and cucumbers and what looked like fresh fava beans. A cooler had items like cheese and yogurt and labneh, a yogurt cheese I make at home but would be very convenient to buy at times pre made. That was a plus. A freezer contained animal proteins. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot in the strip mall where this is located. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door and throughout the store. Seating in café is at standard height booths. Loo is accessible too. 3) TIPS: For a fabulous Middle Eastern and other delights specialty market along with incredibly good take out case food, see Barbur World Foods in Portland. For remarkable take out see Jerusalem Grill if you're in San Antonio sometime.

Yummy yummy yummy. Some of the best hummus I have ever had with really great kababs and bread. Authentic and delicious plus it's attached to a store. This spot is casual so don't expect much from the decor, but let's be stoked about the taste and the friendly service.

I absolutely love this place! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The market itself has tons of awesome goodies and their baklava is the best I've ever had!

Awesome flavors, the fact that the wait staff are also running the grocery store and get busy just adds to the charm. You might be wanting to eat your arm by the time the food arrives but its worth it. My advice is to order a Ishtar sauce to go with the meal since the meat has incredible flavor but can be dry without it. It's not a cooking error just a dry-rub effect. I like supporting this restaurant, I don't know anything about the family but I suspect they left Iraq for a good reason and we should welcome them.

The food was fabulous and flavorful! There aren't many places in Boise I can eat out because of food restrictions, but Ishtar I can. The service was good when we were there....I'll be happy to go back. Interesting market too!

Great great and well, quite unique food for Boise. don't miss the Iraqi bread. simple decor but boy oh boy what great tasting food. this is the place to add to your most visited places in town. low prices, amazing flavor. add to your take out list since it is one of the best for Boise area.

The owner is terrific and so is the food. Better than any other Mediterranean food I have had in Boise. A real cultural treat. We took the family there on Sunday and had a great time. The kids enjoyed themselves and it was very reasonable priced. Try the grilled plate. Also, the bread is wonderful. Highly recommended.

Very good food, but not much for selection. A lot of times they don't have the shwarma, but the chicken kabobs are great. The desserts are killer. I especially love these little birdnest things with like noodles, honey and pistachio... mmm. The market also has some cool stuff. The restaurant is not much for ambiance, and what the ambiance it does have is mexican restaurant, not counting the TV which has whatever from al jazeera to soccer. Doesn't bother me, I go there to eat.

My new favorite restaurant! Had I just heard of it and its been open for 4 or 5 months! They are very cheap price wise but big on taste and portions. I went Friday and then I was back again on Sunday!! The have a lot of good stuff in the store as well. When my husband picked up his food today, the owner said that they were going to have a new menu next week and one of the new things would include some fish among other items! So check it out next week! I had the falafel plate both times. And it was wonderful! I plan on trying everything on the menu!

The food was decent, if a little bland, and we didn't quite get what we ordered, and the bread wasn't as good as we had hoped for. I think it wasn't that fresh, and it definitely wasn't warm. We were also there at a funny time. While the staff was trying hard, they were obviously distracted by other duties. The recycled Chapalas booths are amusing. We may try it again during a more "normal" time of day.

Usually great food. If the OPEN signs are lit and its 8:30 on a Saturday night, don't bother going in, you will be turned away.

Finally!!! A good middle eastern restaurant in Boise. Yeepee. OK. So the "menu" (Laminated paper with 4 pictures), is simple: Chicken Shawarma, Falafel, Lamb Kebab, Beef Kebab, but the food is exactly the opposite, rich and wonderful. Tender meat, spices and flavors in the perfect combination. The flat bread and the Pita and a cause for celebration by their own account. Each meal comes with Hummus, Baba Ganush and Eggplant salad. For drink, grab what you desire from the fridge next to the door. I'm taking one star because the place still doesn't have the restaurant feel, but the food is nothing but AWESOME! You crave for a testy, zesty, crafty meal, head over. Make sure you're hungry!

The food while well seasoned is entirely overcooked. The falafel were about the size of hockey pucks and about the same hardness. Kind of like chewing on a charcoal briquette. Also had the lamb kebab sandwich. The bread was terrific, but again the meat was overcooked and dry. Almost like flavorful leather. Service was also very lacking. They only checked on us a few times over an hour period, and frequently forgot to bring more drinks when ordered.

Fantastic food and friendly staff. Loved the chicken kabobs.

Another grand hole in the wall for many who have no clue about what they are missing! Yes it is not much, but the food was so good! and price cheap!!! They do things a little different since they are a market as well. So this is how it works cause when you first walk in you are not sure. You begin in the market go ahead and walk through to your left and grab a table, wait for the waiter and then go back into the market and pick your drink and sit back down. order your food and experience the only middle eastern food worth eating in Boise!
