Absolutely LOVE this hidden gem on the East side of Downtown Boise. Full lunch and dinner menu, homemade breads, soups, pies and more... Beer/wine for the "adults". Occasional LIVE music with great variety and quality as well asproper volume levels. Most importantly, TACO TUESDAY! Dollar tacos (and 2$ beers) make this an unparalleled Tuesday destination for many lunchers or those wanting to chill and done after a long day. Also with a brand new swanky patio. LONG LIVE HIGH NOTE CAFE! PS - Brunch! Amazing breakfast burrito and house made juice Mimosas with a WILD variety of flaves. High Note FTW!

This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Boise. It's not fancy because it absolutely doesn't care to be and they serve cheap, yummy food. I always order their pork tacos (only $1 on tuesdays!!), my husband ordered their cuban this last time we visited - it isn't a very traditional cuban but very delicious in its own right. Service has never been an issue.

Both times I have been here the food has been disappointing. :(. It's a small beer/wine bar that serves food. It's a little odd for my taste. The servers have both been very nice. And the live music Friday is fun. Anyway. On to the food description. This time I had the classic grilled cheese. Sounds good right. They use fresh baked bread which is great but not my favorite for grilled cheese. But I'm weird. The salad was a mix of greens that have a grass like flavor. Not my favorite. And the house ranch has a strange flavor to it not bad but also not great. Give it a try.

If you are looking for classy, dress up kinda place-this absolutely isn't it. It is however, a little divey, hidden gem with delicious food! After the a friend and I had gone on Preservation Idaho's "Walk About Boise" walk, we decided we'd go somewhere for lunch we had both never been. Service was lovely (think her name was Andrea!) Just positive, fun-loving and able to actually talk about the menu. A little slow but it was a busy afternoon and as now have seen in several reviews "no microwave" kinda implies, they're doing it a bit slower..and after I received my food, I decided that it was well worth a few extra minutes! The salad was ASSEMBLED, not thrown together. ..with cucumbers, shaved parm, veggies & home made little "baby" croutons (a pet peave of mine is too large crutons scratching up roof of my mouth since they rarely cut in half without making a mess!) all of these in their pretty little place on the salad. .suprise #1! Suprise #2 was the home made bread. .lightly grilled ( not too crunchy) but all the cheese was melted perfectly on my Caprese Grilled Cheese. Yum yum yum-don't know if that is ENOUGH Yums-it all was just delicious! Actually enough basil to really taste it too! Friend had the BLT + avocado. We decided to split sandwhiches..I was kinda regretting it as savoring my Caprese...but so happy we did after trying it! My fave sandwich is a BLAST, (BLT + avocado + swiss) so have eaten plenty of that type, but the bacon was perfect (not deep fried) and that homemade bread-YUM again! In fact I'm going to ask next time for the Caprese with bacon...maybe my new fave! Eric the cook was definitely busy but smiled from the open line. .they were both genuinely nice & pleasant..the decor kinda funky, not ultra clean but all a pleasant surprise. We left with our belies full and chuckled that we'd ended our afternoon on a "high note"...will be back!

I just finished my Flying M coffee before ever making out of their gift shop when I realized I was also hungry. So instead of going back to the counter and admitting to the lady that I'm a little kid and can't plan for the future, I did the adult thing and just got the hell out of there. I noticed High Note next door and decided to try it out. What goes great with coffee at 10am? A beer. So I did that. Payette Outlaw to keep it local. I also got the breakfast burrito and was very pleased with the weight and girth of said burrito. Yeah, the words "pleased", "weight", and "girth" were used in the same sentence describing a food. I will stop there before this review dips into that particular subsection of the internet. I love the chalkboard all over the place stating specials and up coming live music to play within the establishment. The other customers seem to be a mix of young and old. Now that it's summer I can't tell if these are young adults or kids on break. It's easy in the winter when I can just assume they are runaways. Anyway, High Note is a great place to sit and relax in a cool setting. I'll be back to hear some live music one of these days. You should to.

Came here for taco Tuesday. $1 street tacos. I ordered two chicken and two pork, they came with pico de gallo, avocado salsa, lime, and some crumbled queso fresco on top. The queso was an interesting twist, the saltiness went well with the tanginess of the lime. Unfortunately they were very small, I had to order two more to get marginally full. Also, I waited 15 minutes with no check before I started this review and it still hasn't come...

Stop by for a wonderful meal and $1 mimosas. They are always different based on what they have made fresh that day. Cucumber/jalapeño and raspberry/mint are excellent! All the food is made fresh. I can't rave enough about how good the breakfast burrito is and the homemade bread is too.

Everything from scratch & delicious. A local joint with $1 mimosas until 1pm, great staff, great eats, local joint, & decent prices. Great stuff all around.

I love the High Note. They have great local music, local beers, and great food. It is one of my favorite places to chill downtown. They serve brunch all day everyday and the breakfast burrito is a must try especially late at night.

I just LOVE this place. I actually was trying to decide where to go to lunch one day so I looked on Yelp to see what was nearby with good reviews and came across the High Note. I don't know how I never knew about this place. It's tucked away in between the Flying M and Guidos. This has now become a favorite lunch spot of mine. The BEST part about this place is they take the time to make basically everything homemade and it really shows in the flavors. You don't get that much anymore...homemade bread..salad dressings?! So delicious. They also dont use microwaves! For the price it's a great value, I get the half sandwich with one of their tasty soups for $7. The turkey cheddar melt sandwich is so hearty with big thick pieces of turkey and homemade bread, I can't finish a whole one. I have only tried the salmon chowder, which I love, but they always have several other soup options. I am really curious to try the breakfast burrito or one of their salads...next time! The inside is small and a little dark and quiet in the daytime but don't worry the food makes up for it. I am going to have to check this place out at night sometime, it seems to turn into a bar and they offer late night food and live music! I hope this place never goes away!!

Decided to jump into this small place because of it's good rating on Yelp ... and the food was AMAZING! However, we came in with a group of 8 during lunch time and that was a bit troublesome because this place is so small. They have only 1 server and a very small kitchen area. Took a bit for the food but it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Even with only 1 server, she was extremely polite and courteous.

Black beans in the breakfast burrito and no Tabasco as defaults. Big wins. Breakfast burrito on the whole was legit. Just like the corner San Francisco burrito shops I lived when living there (yes, I'm an Idaho native. Just one with culture). Tomato basil coconut soup, also amazing. This place is a find. Highly recommend. And thanks to the friendly service their food could've been a lot less delicious and I'd still come back.

Had the breakfast burrito, it was very good but a little heavy on the black beans. The bacon is fantastic and it wasn't over done on the cheese like some breakfast burritos. Definitely attention to food quality. Home baked pies fresh out of the oven that was very tempting but did not try.

To be perfectly frank, I was not prepared for High Note's deliciousness. I walked into this small, dimly lit, pub looking place and thought: uh-oh...I hope they have decent pub food at least. Then I see in large writing on the wall: No microwaves! And, I think...ok...maybe this won't be so bad... And, then I get their menu. Whoa...these sandwiches sound fan-bleeping-tastic! Everything is made in house including the bread they use. Seriously?!? I'm a big fan of their turkey melt (sublime). And, I also deeply dig their Caprese Grilled Cheese. To top it off, your choice for sides with your sammy aren't limited to the usual soup or salad. You can get soup (they have a coconut tomato basil that rocks my socks), salad, coleslaw, Pico de Gallo with tortilla chips, black bean puree with tortilla chips, potato salad, or hummus and veggies. If you are at all a fan of hummus, by all means, my hummus loving people, get the hummus! It's made in house and is absolutely spot on perfect. When I ran out of veggies to dip in it, but still had a skosh left, I may or may not have scooped it out with my dining companions soup spoon and ate it like that. (don't judge...you don't know...it was really that good!) The service is a bit slow as is to be expected with food so carefully prepared. If you happen to be a fan of ginger beer, they have a great one. I don't remember the brand, but definitely all effervescent gingery goodness. Oh! And, you can also opt to have your sammy made with gluten free bread (for a couple dollars extra). So, go hit that High Note people! Get to it!

Made a reservation for 15 people for my birthday brunch this past weekend (decided on High Note when Fork would only take a reservation for 8). Their $1(!) mimosas come in delicious, fun flavors (they had strawberry cilantro, blueberry basil, raspberry, and cucumber agave). The breakfast burrito I had was delicious. I love the High Note and so did everyone I invited to my birthday.

One of the best places I have been to; the food is great and a great price. Not to mention the server is really nice. Not that into the music they play but that's my only bad comment about the place. They have local artists come and preform at night too.

Good quality food, which a good variety of options. I think whatever crowd you are with everyone will find something on the menu. I like the salad and sandwich/soup option! Nothing particularly unique, but a good option with a comfortable, very casual atmosphere. (Not really grimy enough to be considered a 'dive' establishment) Great, friendly service!

There's not a lot of hippie food options in Boise any more. With Whole Foods uppity-ing up the town, the Boise Co-Op gettin' all fancy, and sheesh, even Lisa Peterson who made a name for the Co-Op deli, upscaled into the shishisphere with A'Tavola. Well enter High Note to uphold the homemade humus and chunky bread culture. The from-scratch menu usually has a special that entices. The Italian baked pastas are excellent. As a yard-stick to measure a restaurant, I usually order the Reuben to test things out. While High Note's bread has a nice crumb, the lack of marble rye is a swing and a miss. Homemade marble rye would be stellar, in my book of Reuben scouting. The corned beef was a little tough. Maybe a longer cooking process would help this. The dressing was a little too mayo-y. Maybe it is homemade too? I dunno, Hellmann's is perfect. Why try to beat it? But the cheese, the cheese was perfect. The one man show the last time I was there somehow managed to do it all. It wasn't busy, but I can't imagine a typical downtown lunch crowd with only one dude taking care of everything. There are music performances in the evenings, or at least karaoke going on. The characters remind me of the old Koffee Klatsch. The High Note is a comfortable place to hang and enjoy a homemade meal, like you are at someone's house.

This place is a little hole-in-the-wall with a cozy, quirky feel. The prices were low, and the serve/ prep time was fast. On my first visit, I had a half Caprese sandwich. It was a bit soggy, and was too thick to actually take a bite of, which means that it ended up falling apart into big messy unappetizing chunks. It seemed to have good flavor, but the flavors never actually had a chance to blend the way they should have (one bite would be a chunk of mozzarella; the next a chunk of bread; then a chunk of tomato; etc). I have a preference for sandwiches that can be eaten, you know, sandwich-style! So my suggestion is this: slice the bread thinner; the cheese thinner; the tomato thinner, and then you'd have a real winner. The soup of the day was smoked salmon chowder, which very fresh-tasting ingredients . . . but I didn't much care for the combination of flavors. The next time I was in, I had a Reuben sandwich and the coconut-tomato soup, both of which were excellent. Unfortunately, as I waited for my order, I couldn't help overhearing one of the servers bantering with another customer-- "Oh, there are still people who believe in Jesus? Isn't that cute!"-- which, although not intentionally rude, still made me feel a bit unwelcome. While I ate, I also heard her teasing the other waiter about a large tip he had received: "She thought you were really cute! Yes, she did! She must have!!!" . . . which made me a bit uncomfortable when it came time to leave my own tip. (I decided to play it safe and tip low!) So . . . bottom line . . . although I was charmed at first and thought this might become a regular lunch spot for me, I'm really not so certain that I'll be back.

Been here 4 times now and loved every bit of it. Have had the Reuben (are you kidding me homemade kraut!), Cuban, caprise grilled cheese, salmon chowder (among the best chowders I have ever had), tomato basil soup (unique and amazing must have), breakfast tacos, bruschetta grilled cheese. Everything has exceeded expectations. Going tonight for dollar taco night. Beer selection is nice and local. Service is prompt and friendly. Music is nice in the weekends. Basically feels like I stop by a portland pub deli for a quick bite in beautiful Boise. Don't let this place disappear, needs to become a Boise staple.

Wow. Amazing, homemade food in huge quantities for reasonable prices. The staff is incredibly friendly and there was a great playlist playing in the background. I was honestly a little unsure when we walked up - it was dimly lit and looked empty. But we had read good reviews so forged on - thank goodness we did! My Reuben was the best I've had since I lived back east. The slaw was fresh, light and delicious. My boyfriend, who has a monstrous appetite, could only finish half of his club before asking for foil. The homemade bread and sauces are fantastic. Perfect balance of flavor and substance. This place is a total hidden gem - looks like they have great happy hour options too! We'll definitely be making this a regular spot.

Wow wow wow. Great food, great beer, great conversation, great people. Everything in the restaurant is home made, including the bread and the pickles. We had a Reuben, a pork torta, a sausage sandwich, a cup of amazing tomato basil coconut soup, salad, two great beers and more and the check came in under $40. Uh May Zing! Will return every time I come back to Boise.

I've been here a few times and the food is pretty good, particularly the Reuben and Cuban sandwiches. However, every time I have gone here I or someone in my party has been treated rudely by the owner of the restaurant. Treating customers poorly and smugly telling them that "you do accept tips" is no way to deal with patrons. I have heard stories from people that have briefly worked here that have confirmed my beliefs on the owner. I would not recommend to anyone to support this establishment as long as the owner continues to her ways.

Great street tacos and chicken rosemary sandwich. Server was one of the best I've ever had. Small menu, but a nice little hole in the wall joint. Recommended.

What a cool place. Literally everything is home made. I have probably walked passed it 20 times and never noticed it. It is well tucked in next to guidos pizza and flying m coffee. The street tacos are outstanding. You may shout obscentities due to how good they are. However the grilled cheese of which they have many are out of hand. I was blown away and in a good way. Absolutely enjoyed the funky atmosphere with some kick ass food.

I'll be honest - I ended up here because the coffee shop next door was too crowded. What a nice surprise! The salad was fresh - soup was made from scratch and the service was great! It's a small place, but they have done a great job to make it cozy.

A nice little joint, that's making there own versions of healthy and good tasting eats. Nice select of beer/wine, great $1 Taco Tuesday. Very friendly staff, and good modern mix of locals.

Excellent Cuban sandwich, and the soup of the day was a tomato basil coconut bisque made from scratch. It was delicious. I highly recommend.

The menu is tasty and original. I've enjoyed most things I've gotten there (except for an underwhelming caprese sandwich) and I appreciate the variety of sides they offer as an alternative to fries. For entrees, the pork torta is delicious and you can't go wrong with the tomato coconut soup. It's a nice, homey atmosphere and I've enjoyed most meals I've had there. My main hangup with High Note is that the service is pretty bad. Whether it's a result of understaffing or the servers themselves, I always feel like I'm imposing myself on them to either get a menu, get a water, or get my check--not high-maintenance requests. I think the food makes up for it (as do the prices), but I do wish the staff were less uncomfortable with their jobs.

Great lunch menu! The food is fresh and flavorful. Good selection of vegetarian items and the atmosphere is cool without pretense. I highly recommend checking this place out as an alternative to the usual (zzzz) places.

I love this place I eat here at least once a week and am beginning to become friends with other regulars. I had the grillos cheese and potato carrot soup which were both exceptional and very well priced! How can you beat fresh baked bread?

  • Jeffrey B.

The service at High Note cafe was well below average due to under staffing. I will admit, however, the little staff present was friendly and accommodating. A lunch that should have been 15-20 minutes lasted 45 minutes. My food, the Cuban sandwich, was no that impressive either. The pork had very little flavor and bread was drenched in plain yellow mustard that dominated every bite. I also question the cleanliness of the establishment, generally, With so many other sandwich options I will not likely be returning to High Note.

This place is AMAZING! Such an awesome addition to both the late night food scene as well as a great place to grab a quick lunch. The food is fresh and delicious, homemade to the smallest details(they make their own ketchup and more!). With vegan and gluten-free options it's a great place to take any group of people, even those with special food needs. Love the large beer selection and the different varieties of $2 mimosas! Definitely drop in for a bite and a beer, you won't leave disappointed.
