Local burger place with local ingredients. Good burger. It was cooked well and to my liking. I had the black and blue burger. It was true to the classic. The tater tots were crispy and every once in a while a faint onion flavor. Cross over from the rings. That was pretty good The service was prompt and quick with the drinks and ordering. The burger came out when they were done. It was busy 85% tables full so it was a little wait but worth it. The ambiance is new after the move. But I hope it will be broken in. In a good way. It is crowded most days with people also coming and going for take away. Always a good sign. I'll be back for sure !

Great Burgers, Great Fries, Great Tots - Just Great. This is where value & quality intersect. To me that's the sweet spot for any restaurant. Big Jud's is a burger shack. So, based on that here's what I think: 1. Clean 2. Friendly, responsive staff 3. Awesome Food 4. Great Pricing (they're not overcharging for their burgers) 5. Local spot supporting local products While I didn't take on the challenge, I'm sure the next time I have some friends/family in town we'll do it. We'll be repeat customers.

As promised I finally returned to BIG Jud's after a dissapointing visit last time due to the service. So how did it go you ask? Well if I could give them 2.5 stars I would, my experience had 3 major detractors and I will share them with you. Here is a quick breakdown of my experience as well Yelpers! **Time waiting for food - 24 minutes for a burger and tots, I have been at fine dining restaurants where they didn't take that long. It's a burger, chicken patty, and tots, at the most 15 mins. **Food quality- My friend ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with tots and he had no complaints. The patty was HOT, crispy, flavorful, and most of all his side of tots were hot as well. My order was a Double Cheese burger with tots they were both served HOT. My burger how ever was sorta charred which caused it to be a bit dry. Ordering plain helps me assess the burger without being able to hide behind condiments or other flavors, this time it came out lacking. **Cleanliness- In EVERY restaurant I go in I watch when tables are bussed and cleaned, I watched one waitress clear a table and clean it, never sanitizing the salt and pepper shaker. I again watched as the table to our left was cleared, cleaned, and they were also skipped. I cringed (if you think this is not a big deal I ask you to watch how many people eat tots, fries, or burgers around you with a fork). Now all those people lick their fingers and contaminate the shakers, the end result being you enjoying everyone else's meal that touched the same condiments you did. Great news is all this stuff can be fixed work on your service and your cleanliness Big Jud's! Perhaps I shall return at a later date and have a better experience.

So friggin' yummy!! Husband ordered the mushroom swiss burger, grilled buffalo chicken sandwich with raw jalapeños for myself, mini corndogs for our nibblet and sides of tots, fries and sweet potato fries. Last time we ate here I ordered myself a burger and I don't recall coming up for air during that meal, opted for the chicken sandwich this time because I would really like to lose those last few pounds of baby weight (says the gal who ate through all three fry sides). Anyway, the chicken sandwich was super good - they were very generous with the raw jalapeños (doesn't typically come on the sandwich, asked for it) and the chicken breast was well seasoned and not dry/tough like many grilled chicken sandwiches can be. My husbands burger was cooked really well and quite tasty also (I eat faster than he does and he offers me his food because he feels bad that he's still got an entree and I don't, sweet guy huh?). Any fried starch you get from this place you really can't go wrong with. So why the 4 stars? Service could've been better. Maybe she was having a bad day, who knows...but umm, yeah.

I always find myself expecting great service since I used to be a server. Big Jud's did not disappoint in that arena. We got the Ortega's burger and cheeseburger with a large side of fries and tater tots. All the food was amazing, the only thing I was a little disappointed on the fries. Ice cream was delicious too!! Other than that Riann our server did an awesome job! We will be back. Rating 4.5!!!

Had a good Bacon Cheeseburger with Tots from Big Juds last night! I wasn't brave enough for the 11lb or the 1lb, just had the basic. Bun was fresh and the burger had a generous serving of thick cut bacon which was great. The meat had good flavor, but was overlooked a bit for me. They didn't ask how I wanted the burger cooked so maybe it's my fault, so next time maybe I could ask for not so well done. Tots were hot and tasty, and the fry sauce was really good on both the tots and burger.

Great Burgers and customer service. Best fries in town! Always get our food within 5 to 10 minutes, even when it's packed for lunch hour. Locally owned and operated which is awesome. Shop local and support our community. Awesome job guys keep it up and please add locally brewed beers to your menu!

This place had been on my list for a while and a co-worker and i finally decided to pop in and try it after a hike. Cons: Tons and tons of kids. Large families tend to come here and allow the little one to scream and holler. ugh. The process on how to order and how to get seating is confusing. The staff was friendly but overworked. The burger was tasty enough - i got the blue and bacon and crazily enough the blue cheese was overpowering, i should have gotten the jalapeno one! The sweet potato waffle fries were strange... All in all it was ok, if they offered a beer and less children it might be a go-to place, but for now, it's not high on my list.

Another great visit. Take out order this time. Finger steaks and fries...BBQ sauce for the finger steaks and fry sauce. Service was very friendly and gave me plenty of supplies for to go order.

I've come to the conclusion that every restaurant in Idaho server tater tots. Big Juds no exception but they are quite good. I had some sort of spicy burger that wasn't too spicy. Overall worth the trip, especially if you don't like chains.

I wanted to check this place out because I had seen it featured on an episode of Man v. Food. Since I had a marathon to run the next day, I didn't order the challenge burger. Instead I ordered the Double super bacon burger with tater gems. It sounded plenty big. One thing you must have in Idaho is their fry sauce. It makes your fries or tater tots taste really good! They brought out my gigantic burger with a knife stuck through the center. That's a nice touch for a burger lover! I was there at about 1pm and the place was packed. I had to wait a bit to be seated. Once you're done, they'll bring you your bill, then you pay at the cashier. I would definitely come back here if I'm ever in town again.

I don't know if I can say anything about Big Jud's that hasn't been said countless times before. There burgers are da bomb diggity. I ordered the double super bacon burger. Two good size patties seasoned to perfection with a slice of ham, cheese and a few slices of bacon between both layers. The burger was huge and perfectly cooked. You can tell that they use fresh instead of frozen patties. I now understand why everyone say's that they have the best burger's in town.

I was SO excited to come visit this place. I messaged my wife and said, hey come to Boise and lets have lunch. I gave her the choice of where to go and she choose Big Jud's. I cannot tell you HOW glad I am that she did! We were greeted and seated the moment we walked in the door. A really nice waitress takes our order and we wait about 10 minutes or so for our meal. HUGE soda glasses! My wife orders the Super Bacon Cheese burger and I order the Hickory. Wow! GREAT quality beef patties, GREAT quality bacon and other ingredients! I cannot begin to tell you just how impressed I was with this burger joint! My only complaint is that there isn't one in Caldwell or Nampa! I'll be back, I can promise that! Big Jud's is awesome! It has the BEST burgers in the valley! HIGHLY recommend this place.

A slow start with a service malaise....and the untenable ( for me) use of Pepsi products gave way to a wonderful basket of crisp thick cut fries and remarkably delicious burger. Mine came with bacon and I added habanero cheese. The restaurant is more a " hall ", but who cares about ambiance when the burgers are this great?

College town burger joint. Big Juds is just that.. I'm learning to like the new restaurant. But the cheerful freindly staff has definitely made the move to the new restaurant. They all seem to be happy and proud of where they work and it makes for a fun dining experience. Always smiling and willing to give recommendations. Always just a cool attitude from everyone. The food.. I never ordered the one pound or two pound burgers. But have seen them being served every time I'm there. Funny to watch people get around a burger and take selfies. Last visit I help a family take a picture with their burger. Yes I'm that guy! Makes me laugh to! So instead of telling you about the burgers I will just add pictures and tell you they taste better than they look. Awesome! Sides... I like the frys the best. The tots second and onion ring 3rd. My buddy likes the rings, tots, and then the frys In that order. So we order a small order of each because we can never decide. And I eat most of the frys and he eats most of the onion rings and we fight over the tots.. So I think that make the tots the winner. :). Only negative is the coupon that comes up when you check in that offers Yelp users 10% discount. But when you go to use it they say it's only from July and the owners can get it off of there. This needs to be fixed or just given to people that ask.

I enjoy eating at this place every time we go. The service is always good and the food is delicious. Also any business that donates to veteran events like this one has are a 5 star in my book! I appreciate any businesses who supports and continues to support our veterans who have served our country. I would recommend this place and will keep returning.

Big Juds, I was lured here by the romance of a burger so big that even I couldn't finish it. Ha! No such thing said I. The attentive and bubbly waitress explained the deal, I had 30 minutes to devour a burger along with a basket of onion rings and tater tots. Childs play, I recall thinking, after all this is a man who once ate 11 slices of prime rib at a casino buffet. Of course, that was back in my prime. Well, long story short, I failed to get my picture on the wall of fame, failed to earn the right to wear the Big Juds " I ate it all" T shirt. But, I didn't miss by much. It was still a fun experience, you have to go at least once. Open room seating, a Little busy and noisy, but you could tell the attendance was earned thru reputation. Good game Big Juds, good game!

Not sure why I added a pound of bacon to an already monster sized burger, but it was totally worth it. This place is an absolute must for any burger lover visiting Boise, just make sure your belt has an extra notch. Added the 5th star because of the new store. Love it!

The size of the burgers makes this place famous and they are passable on taste but not the best burger I've ever had. We had a good time and enjoyed the challenge of finishing the meal.

We (3 in my party), ordered the The Big Jud Special, which was a large 1lb burger with large fries. It was plenty for us three. I think given the portion, this order can feed 4 people easily. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, around 1pm but by the time we were done, it was near empty. The fry sauce was excellent. The food was good, friendly wait service, and generous portions!

Well I'm way overdue for a Yelp, but hey it's been a busy week. So back to burgers... easy to learn, difficult to master. I've sampled quite a bit in terms of the Boise burger scene since moving here, not surprising for a town with a reputation for potatoes. I'm still searching for a favorite, but in terms of local flair, one could certainly do worse than Big Juds. I will say it certainly lives up to its name and reputation. So most people are familiar with this place because of its gigantic burgers and being featured on the TV show "Man vs. Food." And while my family did pass on the challenge of Big Juds biggest offerings, we did split one of their smaller burgers (and I use that term loosely) and came away very satisfied. Basically we got a meal with a one pound burger, a basket of fries, and a couple ice creams for the kids. We also got a basket of onion rings. All the food was excellent. The burger was juicy and well prepared, with toppings on the side that we could add at our discretion. The fries and rings were both good... crispy and hot without being overly oily or soggy. The only negative for us was the bun was just... too much. It was too much bread even for such a large hamburger, so the "ratio" of bread to meat was just not ideal to us. The service at Big Juds was excellent. Refills on our drinks were plentiful, as were crayons and coloring sheets for our little ones to eat........... err, amuse themselves with. They were very understanding and accommodating of our kids. I know small children are not always the best behaved, and I know they leave behind messes. So we are always very appreciative of places that don't make us feel like "second class citizens" just for having small children. Big Juds was awesome in this regard. They were also quick on getting us the final check so we could get out quickly once the kiddos really started acting up. Top notch service all the way around. Does Big Juds totally live up to the hype? Well, mostly. We had a good time and certainly will return the next time a burger craving hits us in the downtown area. But I can't really say it hits that "Oh my god this is awesome!" button that some people might assume just because it was on a TV show. Big Juds will get you a good, huge burger at a good price, but they don't exactly "reinvent the wheel" in terms of what a burger joint is. So just keep your expectations in check and you'll walk out fully satisfied.

The food wasnt bad but the management lacks integrity. I chose to eat here based upon Yelp reviews and the 10% offer that I was given when pulling it up today, November 13, 2014. They refused to honor the offer because it said it expired in July and they forgot to remove it. Congratulations ownership, you saved $3 and spent it on this review.

Probably my favorite burger spot in Boise. The bacon bleu burger is out of this world and the tots are so crispy I would marry them if our state legislature would stop standing in my way. Only criticism is that I don't think the fries are 100% gangsta, too thick, not thin and crispy like I like. However since I ALWAYS order the tots this is not a big deal.

I really didn't think I would ever rate Big Judd's 5 stars but after last nights visit there was no way I could not. I have to preface this review by telling you when I moved to Boise 12 years ago I went to their old location. My burger was so mediocre I could hardly believe that people called this one of the best burger joints in Boise. But after that first impression I was not inclined to return and I didn't. So last night for dinner we all got a hankering for a really good burger. Didn't feel like five guys this time and had seen the reviews for Big Judd's and my husband had recently been there and told me it wasn't to bad. Soooo I thought okay why not? New location, maybe better food? We came about a half hour before closing but the staff was friendly nonetheless even patient I would say when it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to order. My son got the cheeseburger and tater tots. My husband got the Super Burger and I got the mushroom burger and added fresh jalapeños to it. Yeah I like it spicy! And we also got an order of onion rings. The food came out relatively quick and oh my heck it was amazing. The BEST tater tots I had ever had in my life. Onion rings weren't bad either. The mushroom burger was delicious! I will definitely be returning again and again!!

burger was good, nothing that blew me out of the water. The buns are way too thick. I was hoping for very natural flavorful fries. It was just okay. The sauce made it better but I can get that anywhere.

Over the course of a year I tried pretty much every burger joint in Boise, comparing their offerings, and this was one of the last places on my list to try. It was far and away the worst in town. I had heard it was pretty good, so I was very disappointed. Extremely poor quality food. There are plenty of people in town that like it though, so if you don't have discerning taste it's probably passable--but I've spoken to many burger connoisseurs, and the consensus seems to be unanimous. Thumbs down.

Let me start by saying that I am NOT a hamburger person, I will not eat a hamburger, but I LOVE chicken strips and finger steaks. When I was a student at Boise State this was a regular stop for me. I have never had any bad experiences, ever. The food is always very consistent, ginormous portions, delicious, cooked to perfection food. For a hamburger joint this is far above the rest. I would venture to say that this may be the best hamburger joint on the West Coast, if not the country.

  • Sun-hae K.

Good burgers and tots. Love the cherry Scotch and soda. Couldn't finish the challenge but I think the rest of the menu is better than the big jud burger anyway. Good service but try to hit a time when they aren't packed.

The food was good I got the Bacon cheese burger and it was good the fries are not bad got full so it was worth it

  • Steve M.

Great service, good food and nice atmosphere give this little hamburger joint a solid 3.5 stars. I think the "fame" that befell Jud's on a famous eating show have created a "me too" rating on Yelp. Don't get me wrong, this is some good grub and I'll be back. However, it's not 4 stars in my book.

Check in Coupon is a shame! Before you check in it says you can get 10% Off your check - there's no information on restrictions. But wait, not until after you check in and the restaurant gets credit for a check in do you see that you can only use it in the month of July! Lame. False advertising. To the owners: Either say that in the coupon before the person has to check in or only post the coupon for the month you decide to make it active (July). Food: Burger ok but salty. Bun large Fries good Soda flat Funny pre cut, washed cold storage iceberg lettuce taste overtakes the burger

Big Jud's has one of the best burgers and THE best fries in town. The only knock on this place is that they serve the burgers on plates that are barely bigger than the burger. If you want to use ketchup for your fries theres no place to put it.

  • Ajdin B.

Hands down one of my favorite burger joints in Boise! What more can you ask for when this place provides a really comfortable and fun environment and to top it off while serving delicious burgers and fries or your choice of tater tots. It was also featured on Man vs Food so you know they do it big! The staff working there really seem to be enjoying their job and are proud to be a Big Juds team member so they provide quality service and are really on top of their game even when that place is packed and it tends to be like that often. This is the home of the one pound burger but they have many different options of burgers from your regular cheeseburger to a Hawaii burger with a slice of grilled pineapple (my favorite). They also have some pretty good sandwiches as well. Recently the place has been renovated to accommodate more people and it turned out really nice! If your a burger lover this is the place for you.

Never thought business would send me to Idaho but I am sure glad it did. Checked out Big Jud's before I came and thought I had to give it a try. Man vs. Food was absolutely right...the place is great. I had the Ortega burger with the fresh homemade fries. This may have been one of the best burgers I have ever had...and this comes from a Midwest boy.

Pretty good berger for fast food. Friendly and fair priced. Better than average. Could be a little cleaner but will not stop me from returning.

  • Justin P.

Easily the best burger in town and one of the best places for fries and shakes too. My only gripe is because they cook to order (which adds to the quality of the burger) is it takes too long to order, get the food and inhale it fast enough to get to and from for lunch at work... I'm about a 10 minute drive to and from.

This was our 6th stop on Burgerpalooza, in search of the best effing burger in B-town. Oh...people...Finally! After 5 stops of ho-hummery--we have landed in a deliciousness of such magnitude you may feel the need to pound your fist on the table, moan, and high five random passers by. Seriously. Our group of burger enthusiasts gave this joint an average of 4.63 stars (I rounded up--because, well, they deserved it). They had high marks in every category, scoring several 10 out of 10's and getting darn near perfect scores from a couple of the participants. The lowest score came in the category of fries...however, the participant who gave the low score admitted she just doesn't care for thick cut fries, which is definitely what Big Jud's serves. And (!!), even with that disappointment, she still gave them nearly 4 1/2 stars. We came in here on a Friday night and they were hoppin'. There was just enough seating available for our group so, thankfully, we didn't have to wait. The ambiance is your typical no-nonsense burger joint which paired well with the food that was also no-nonsense American eats. Their burgers appear hand formed and taste totally fresh (ie: these are not your usual premade frozen patties!). The fries appear hand cut and also tasted as though they'd never seen a freezer. I paired up with another Burgerpalooza participant and together we each ordered a cheeseburger, and upon the recommendation of another diner shared a large order of fries and a soda. The soda and fries were huge and definitely ample enough for the two of us to share. The burgers were the epitome of what a standard cheeseburger ought to be--fresh, juicy burger, fresh veggies, fresh bun--perfect. I happen to love thick cut fries and these were some of the best I've ever had. The service was friendly (I think we amused them a little when we busted out our score cards and the discussion commenced). And, to top everything off...they offer a "check in discount" of 10% off! Love the Yelp check in deals!

I am from the area where this restaurant is originally from and I have always loved it. This one isn't as good but it is still great. From their fries to their burgers everything is tasty. Also their desserts are great as well. The best thing to do in my opinion is the big jud deal. It's the big burger large (basket) fry 2 drinks and 2 I've cream comes. Mmmmm... My wife and I do this every time and we always have left overs. Or you can do the challenge and get your picture on the wall. They have different levels up to a 6 lbs burger. My friend tried it once and didn't even come close. But it's an experience.

So fun! Good food, great place for college crowd. I haven't been back for a while only because I don't go that direction often but now that I'm writing this review, yes, I'm kinda hankering for a visit.

If you haven't eaten at Big Jud's yet, you need to! It's a local landmark and continues to improve with age. The Ortega burger and Bleu bacon burger are my favorites. Definitely the best burger in town!

I've never seen burgers this big in my life. One family ordered the restaurant's largest burger on the menu & literally the entire family knifed into the sandwich attempting to eat it. Pretty great burger & interesting experience to say the least!

I moved to Boise last July and have asked people for new fun local places to try and they all said Big Juds. It is only now I tried. It is great. I am not a huge fan of their fries, just because they're a little thicker than I like, but they are tasty. I would prefer the tator tots or their onion rings. I ordered their bacon cheeseburger and a chocolate shake because I figured if I'm going to be bad, then I might as well as go all out. Their birthday cake shake is by far my favorite. Someone I know even ordered their enormous burger !!! He didn't eat it all, but oh gosh. It is a sight to see.

Very disappointed. Service is terrible. Employees here need a lesson in customer service Absolutely the rudest people in Idaho. Gross place.

It's a pretty good burger. The regular cheesburger, better than the huge tv show burger. Really dig this joint. However avoid this place at all costs on Saturday, home game day. Hell avoid all of the South East if not going to the game.

The best burger and fries that I've ever had and since they have opened they're new building it's even better. I highly recommend the "Big Jud" with cheese, and large fries. This meal will last you a couple of days. In the mood for a good ole fashioned burger and fries? This is the place.

Good service and a great burger. I tried the mushroom and bacon burger and it was amazing. The onion rings were somewhat just regular onion rings, but I will be coming back for sure.

  • Tom D.

Ok, here is the deal. The burgers are outstanding. Best burger in Boise as far as I'm concerned. Ditto on the fries. Thick cut deliciousness. And that fry sauce goes oh so well with them. The prices of the burgers and sides are a bargain, and you will leave with a satisfied, full belly. HOWEVER, this is where they get a star subtracted from them.. They just opened up a remodeled version of the restaurant literally right next door to the old establishment.. while it definitely seats more people than it used to, the personal booths are gone, as is the funky charm of the old place. Still worth a visit or three though. GO!

You know how they say television makes things seem larger than life. Big Juds is a classic illustration of that. I was drawn to Big Juds based on that show starring the gluttonous Adam Richman, Man vs Food. I found the place with the aid of a GPS and I had to do a double take. "That little building is Big Juds?" I went inside and another double take, it is just this tiny place with eight tables. It looked so big on TV. Makes me wonder if Adam Richman is really the fat slob he is on television. Big Juds is as advertised, all kinds of burgers accompanied by hand cut fries. They also have two challenges, a one pound burger and a two pound burger. Eat the two pounder in 30 minutes and you get a free T Shirt and your picture on the wall of fame. One customer was giving it a shot while I was there and he couldn't quite pull it off. I watched him stagger out of the place looking sick and doing the purge in the parking lot. Me, I stuck with a double cheeseburger, fries and coke. I give this place it's due, the burger was very well done, nice and juicy, fresh bun, good toppings. Fries were hand cut but I would classify them as average. What saved these puppies were the fry sauce that they give you to dip them in. Excellent stuff! It's a good burger, and the fat boy challenge gives this place an interesting spin and it is worth a visit. But the ambiance isn't there so it's not too great for groups.

This is a restaurant that came up on one of my Yelp searches. Although, folks in Boise don't seem to use Yelp as much as many cities, people from other cities help out by reviewing local businesses. I noticed that this had a solid 4 after many reviews so we decided to try our luck over at Big Juds. When we pulled up we were comforted with the knowledge that there were two Idaho State Troopers there. If the troopers are there, there's probably good food. Well, that's exactly what we got. We were greeted promptly and allowed to pick a location to sit. I hesitantly asked how big the regular burgers were as I had seen the hype about Man vs Food (a reality show, where they eat competitively) and saw the size of those burgers. She assured me that they were 1/4 lb burgers, at which point, I was relieved. If you are curious about it it's on Big Juds website. The fries, which come separately, come in a small which 1/2 lb and large 1 lb. I elected to choose the small which was more than plentiful. The fries are hand cut steak cut fries. Very tasty and served with fry sauce which we all know is mayo and ketchup mixed together but still good nonetheless. The burger was nicely down with many toppings and an unusual bun, more like a kaiser roll. Very good. When I checked in on Yelp it indicated that this was an offer to get a free order of fries. It also mentioned within the Yelp text that you would get the same if you checked in on Foursquare. I thought that was strange. So, I asked the wait staff about it. She said I know you get one of those with Foursquare. Let me check, she went back to the kitchen and was talking to other staffers and all we could hear was about every other word which was Foursquare. I giggled and shook my head and thought of Community Manager, Don shuddering at the mention of Foursquare. Long story short, it was no problem and the Yelp coupon (a word they never uttered by the way), was fine. Good solid burger joint. We swore no more burgers this trip, but alas what can you do?

Big Juds was just okay for me. My wife and I had cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, and tater tots. The burger was good but nothing to write home about. In fact we were just visiting Boise and Big Juds did not get mentioned in any of our postcards. Anyhow, the fries were unique but didn't taste great. The onion rings were terrific and they score extra points for serving tater tots. You can't go wrong with tater tots. They serve their sides with what appeared to be french dressing. We took it to go and I'm glad we asked for extra ketchup, because without it we wouldn't have had ketchup at all. The service was great and the ice cream from Cascades looked divine, although we didn't have any. I would say it's okay to skip this place unless you want the equivalent of a month's worth of salt packed into one meal. So thirsty all night long.

The place is a cool little local eatery with some character. It was a great atmosphere for dinner. The food I ordered was a double bacon cheese burger with only pickles and a small fry. When I got the food, I realized that this place apparently places quantity over quality. The burger had two layers of bacon! Unfortunately, because they use a skittle sort of grill, the burgers were bland and dry. The bacon had a vague microwaved flavor to it and didn't seem fresh. I think they depend on the sauces to add flavor, instead of using the sauce to enhance the burgers. I, frankly, have had better tasting food at chains like Red Robin. The only redeeming factor for the food is the fries which seem to be fresh cut potato.

Who knew there is actually the best burger in Idaho? Was driving on way back home from Salt Lake City to Seattle, so figured we all would stop to grab some burgers in Boise. Was checking Yelp and noticed this place has pretty good ratings so why not. I'd have to say that is one of best burgers I ever had, two friends said the same thing. Regular size for a burger is actually pretty huge so was glad I didn't order a double size!! The place opened at 11am and we got there at around 11:25am, the place was already packed. So you shall be prepared when you decide to show up but definitely worth it. Burgers: GREAT Fries: Just OK - too big so some came out raw inside, need to cook longer. Drink: Great - huge cup so you don't really need to refill. Waiter: Very friendly and fast service. Cleanliness: Yes

Burgers? Yes! Fries? Yes! A mouth full? Yes Indeed! When I return to Boise, is this going to be the first place I go when i get off of the plane? Yes! Amen to all of the juicy hamburger Gods!

Service was fast and friendly. Hot Buff Burger was great. Sweet potato waffle fries were fantastic. Large drink had to be at least a liter. Good experience.

After sitting in the hospital downtown for 2 straight days and eating chips and cold chicken fingers...enough was enough! I knew Big Juds was a block away and I took an order for the room. When I called...they were polite, got my order correct and sent me packing. I've been here before and I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes good old fashion burgers! Although she couldn't eat...I am happy our newborn baby got to smell those tots and rings :) we even had a nurse come In who was looking for the room the wonderful smell was coming from. Double cheeseburger with bacon- yum! One small issue- the tots and rings didn't travel well- I would recommend eating them at the restaurant.

Here's the breakdown: Double Jalepeno Burger: (5/5) - What a great burger! It was juicy, fresh, and just plain delicious. Nearly perfect. Small Fries: (3/5) - As a few people have said before, the fries were less than satisfying. They were under cooked, which resulted in no crispiness whatsoever. By virtue of the fact that they were still fried potatoes, they receive a 3/5. Fry sauce was a nice touch. I would advise going for the tots. Vanilla Milkshake: (3/5) - I actually didn't like the milkshake. It had a strange flavor that I couldn't put my finger on. The vanilla flavor was certainly there, but it was slightly overshadowed by this other phantom flavor. I wish I had saved the dollar and some odd cents and just got a soda. Service: (5/5) - All of the staff was very friendly. Quite friendly, actually. Funny side story: As I was leaving, a little boy, maybe 6 years old, came in with his family. They sat down and he said, "I want a Big Jud and a Sprite. Finally I'm off my diet!" Pretty funny kid.

I've got to say I've been to many burger joints in my days but Big Juds takes the top spot easily. This is one of those small town joints that's been serving awesome burgers for many years. With this said, it's time for my play by play review. Step 1: Burger With this place being featured on Travel Channels Man v. Food and Chowdown Countdown you know your in for a treat. I happened to get the blue bacon burger which was amazing. It had a beautifully grilled patty, super crispy bacon, a nice slice of Swiss, and a gracious glob of grade A blue cheese. We also sampled the mushroom Swiss burger which was outstanding. Step 2: the sides At Big Juds, we really only had 3 sides to choose from which were Fries, Tater Tots, and onion rings. Naturally, we tried them all and fries were an easy winner. These super thick Idaho potato fries were just the right amount of crispy and soft. Not to mention the compliment to any side dish in the region, Fry Sauce. This regional condiment adds the perfect tang to any fry or side for that matter. Step 3: Service A bright young staff keeps this place going and the customers happy in the city of Boise. Very quick and efficient. Overall, a great inexpensive stop that easily earns a five star rating

While driving from Seattle to Vegas I stayed the night in Boise. So, knowing that Man vs Food has visited this place I had to stop by. It is in a very small unassuming location. They are known for 1 pound plate size burgers but, I was not that hungry. So I decided on a double with ham. The burger came out promptly and I also ordered the large fries. The fries were huge and hand cut steak style. Very good but not quite crispy. HUGE props though for having fry sauce in a bottle at the table. The burger was great overall. Good bun, 2 hand pressed patties, and dripping with juices. This burger will be in my top 10 of all time for sure. The service was really strong too. Overall with Drink, fries, Burger, and Huckleberry ice cream kids cone it was $15 The only things that don't make this 5 star is the kinda high price and the fries being soggy. Overall I highly recommend.

I was here on a business trip with a group of peeps and we somehow ended up here for dinner. The hype of course being the MvF burger. I confess that I like my meat more on the bloody side but can tolerate a medium grill if it hasn't been pressed hard on the grill and relieved of all it's juices. The burger was just that...dry and without any flavor. I got the bleu and bacon burger and I kept wondering when I'd get some bleu flavor with each bite. Needless to say, it never happened. The starches were ok; with the tater tots being the best item ordered. I agree with other fellow reviewers on the 5 star ratings...they must have several different grill chefs and I pulled the short straw on that night I was there. I will state that the staff is very courteous and attentive. I appreciate when my glass is kept full.

Big Juds burger one of the best burgers I ever had. Absolutely 5 stars for the food FRESH FRESH FRESH! and Tasty The potatoes are hand cut and fresh, meat fresh and the Mushrooms were so fresh Service 5 stars , they are super nice and welcoming . The place super clean. Thank you Big Juds for letting me watch you cooking in action in the kitchen ! I would love to dine again in Big Juds every time I visit Idaho Big Juds all the way 5 STARS

Big Juds rocks! A real Boise tradition. Delicious burgers in all the different styles and varieties. Featured on Man vs. Food. The Big Juds burger is a carnivores delight, Enough for two starving people or three if merely ravenous. The burger for the tv show was a special concoction that is available, if you dare take it on. If there is a drawback, it's that Big Juds is a very small joint. So seating is at a premium. And a wait is inevitable. But well worth it. Enjoy.

BOOM! Big Juds. Always fantastic, always leaving full. I am quite the critic of restaurants, but I have always been a fan of Juds. Juds unlike many other restaurants has pushed the greed aside and cared for it's customers, endless fry sauce anyone? I was at a restaurant the other day charging $.75 for fry sauce. Their burgers are big and delicious. I feel as if they may have changed the buns, bring back the old yellow ones!! New location is awesome!! Our same waitress is still there, she does it right, just let the fat boys eat. Keep on keeping on Big Juds.

After taking family for a quick tour of BSU we needed to stop for a lunch. This was the right place. Great food. We really enjoyed the burgers and tots. Our waitress was happy and attentive adding to our enjoyment. This small place must really get backed up during the school year.

Big Jud's does not disappoint! I've been to several burger joints in Boise, Eagle and Meridian and Big Jud's is my favorite, by far! Real taste, friendly service and fresh ingredients that make for a memorable experience. BJ's is a Boise landmark and it's no surprise why, they are delicious!!

Jesus, this place is awesome and I wish there were a way to teleport a restaurant! Once again, I found this place through Man vs. Food... unfortunately I only made it there once and was extremely hungover. I ordered the regular hickory burger with onion rings and my husband ordered the double reuben burger with fries because he's a freak of nature. Both of our burgers were so good, not dry at all. Loved the onion rings and fries because they're made there! (Yes, it makes a HUGE difference and in my opinion, it can ruin a meal if they're garbage.) My only complaint is that there isn't a Big Juds here. ):

Totally confused by the 5star reviews. If you like burgers and fries done right, then you will surely be disappointed by Big Jud's fare. That much mayo would make anything taste passable, but it sure isn't about either the taste or the quality of the patties at that point. But my biggest gripe...How can they possibly call those things french fries? They are fat, greasy and _limp_ right out of the kitchen! I am totally into small, local, innovative establishments, and finding culinary diamonds in the rough, but in this case, I hate to admit that I'd prefer a chain burger over Big Jud's. Unfortunately, the rave reviews cost us app. $19, and hours of post-visit guilt pangs at having abused our digestive systems.

Their burgers are deeeeelicious. We had the special which was their 1 lb burger, fries, 2 drinks, and 2 ice creams but we had to do it the man vs. food way and get a double jud. It was enormous! You have to have a big stomach for this big meal. We also had their tater tots. It totally brings back memories of having tots in the cafeteria as a kid. They were yummy. The only thing that I found was a problem was the parking. They have a parking lot but it's small. I guess it fits in with their small dining room which I thought added character to a small burger joint.

So, I'm giving this place four stars purely for the burgers. The burgers are great. Who woulda thunk a Reuben Burger would be so delicious? On the other hand, like everyone else has said the fries are awful as are the shakes.

Oh Big Jud's you done me in for good. I generally cannot focus for a good hour due to the burger-induced food coma. No-frills ambiance, but a lovely picture wall of those who have conquered the famous 1 pound Big Jud in one sitting. They also have a small ice cream selection and friendly, welcoming service. I get the bleu bacon burger every time. It is loaded with bleu cheese, so don't order it if you just sort of feel like it. Order it if you can't think about anything other than satiating your blue cheese yearning. A mountain of tater tots is $3 and I dare you to finish them, it can't be done, even with the delicious fry sauce that only Idaho restaurants know how to master.

Honestly I will admit the only way I found this place was watching it on Man Vs Food. I saw the burger he ate, and was amazed! I've seen some big burgers in my days but this one was ridiculous! Though not only do they have a 2lb burger (challenge only) they also have a 1lb (can or cant be a challenge up to you) and single and double sized burgers. Once I saw all they do were burgers I knew they were going to be good. I wanted to get the 1pounder but part of me just felt like i wasn't going to finish it, so I decided to go with the double patty bacon burger. Long story short it was moist, tender, juicy, and bacon and cheese on each patty. Overall one word for it....DELICIOUS!!! Though you have to buy fries (or tots) separate its well worth it, if you like crispy go with the tots if you like soft and "steak fri" type get the fries. The thing that amazed me though was their also known for their shakes. Seriously I cant find one bad thing on their menu that wasn't good. So since I saw a milkshake on every table I thought "Well F**k it might as well". With my burger, tots, peanut butter and chocolate milkshake in front of me I ate it like it was my last meal on earth. Everything together mixed just right. The juiciness of the burger the crispiness of the tots and the creaminess of the shake and all together calls for a party :) Ever in Boise and have an appetite, highly recommend to come here!!!

We went to Big Jud's because, of course, Adam Richman had been there. The BIG BURGER is BIG for sure. That burger definitely feeds 7 people comfortably - I am not sure how people do the challenge but I will tell you if you are ever in Boise, ID - check it out. You won't be disappointed - great shakes and burgers and a homey atmosphere.

I saw Big Jud's on Man Vs Food, looked and sounded like a place I wanted to try. On our way to Twin Falls we stopped and had Cheeseburgers, Fries, & Onion Rings. My wife & I thought the food was superb in every way it could be! My wife is a Idaho girl and likes her potatoes. Really raved about both the fries and rings. We both had cheeseburgers that were fresh made as were all the fresh veggies that topped the burger. On the way back from Twin Falls, we stopped again & on our trip back to Twin in Sept, we enjoyed another lunch there. You better get there either side of lunch because Jud's is packed! Wonder Why? Also brought back Tees for my son and two buddies, they wear them with pride and hope to taste a Jud's burger for themselves. BTW: The Service is top notch! Dan M Lake Stevens, WA.

Good: Awesome onion rings Solid burgers (best in close to the downtown area) Bad: Super thick shakes (order half the malt too if you choose that) The high number of customers makes it hard to keep it swept and picked up

"World Famous??? I ordered a mushroom bacon burger. The amount of mayo made the lettuce unnoticeable but fortunately I was able to use the mayo that slopped out of the burger to re dip into to combat how dry it was! At least they did the fries to order. Just surprised about the reviews that said it was good. I'll spend my money on better burger joints

I knew I wanted to try this place after seeing it on Man V. Food, but I didn't know it was going to save my life! After what I had done the night before (drank excessively) I was so sick I thought I was dying, or wished I could be put out of my misery. I couldn't keep anything down, everything was spinning, I was shaking...you get the idea. I was hopeful that a Jud's burger would help me feel better. With 6 people dining we thought we'd be able to put back the ginormous Man V. Food Burger and a Big Jud's burger along with the accompanying fries and an order of onion rings. We couldn't put a dent in the feast! Not only was I completely cured after only a couple of bites, but it was delish! The Man V. Food burger was made complete by the complimenting swiss and blue cheeses, and bacon and sauteed mushrooms. All of the flavors and textures made this burger something I'm going to dream about until my next trip to Boise! For all the locals out there-don't take this place for granted. If you're lucky enough to live in Boise, visit Jud's often! By the way, the pictures don't do the burgers justice; they are much bigger in "real life."

Went here soon after my wife and I moved here from California. My son Jim sent us a gift card for this place. Small little hole in the wall, but it seems like everybody knows about this place. The food network was here once showcasing the GIANT hamburger they have. It actually is pretty good. Lots of fries cooked the old fashion way. We have gone back there many times. Get there early.... it gets crowded.

My wife and I went to Big Judd's a while back based on the review on Travel Channel's #43 of the top 101 places to chow down. In it they said "Has giant, creamy centered crispy french fries and Frisbee-sized burgers!" They were right on both counts (not really the size of a Frisbee, but very large), and this was refreshing. So many of these ratings are just hype. I passed on their giant 1 lb, 2 lb Man Size and "Man v. Food" size, but I did get a double Jalapeno burger with fries, and my wife got a regular size burger. The burgers were juicy and tasty with all fresh ingredients, the best I can remember in a while. The fries were freshly thick cut, very large (up to 7 or 8" long) and as described: crispy with creamy centers. This is reminiscent of well cooked British "chips." Of course you should expect good potatoes in Idaho. The service was very good: fast, attentive and accommodating. We were even able to take a picture of the kitchen operation. Everyone in the place was very friendly, and there seemed to be a zeal for the food operation. We were only there once, everything we encountered was five star, and we concur with the dozen or so 4 - 5 star reviews we read. We will certainly try it again if we are ever in Boise, ID.

HOW DOES BIG JUDS ONLY HAVE 9 REVIEWS?? Clearly, everyone's trying to not spread the word (though it was on Man vs. Food, so I think the secret's already out). The burgers here are phenomenal, whether you try to tackle a multi-pound burger or if you stick with a normal-sized one. The mushroom bacon burger is my absolute favorite, while my dad swears by the bleu bacon burger. But whatever you get, it will be delicious (the hickory burger is like a ridiculously good rodeo burger from BK). The only complaint I've heard about Big Juds is that their fries are very thick cut, but slather some fry sauce on and you'll forget about any preference for thinner fries. Their ice cream is from a local company (I believe) that some other places around Idaho have, but it's very good as well, if you have room. And as a plus, you might get some entertainment as you dine watching someone attempt to tackle a two-pound burger and a pound of fries.

Like many likers of Big Juds, I was drawn here by the Man vs Food burger. I split the competition meal with a friend and we barely finished (4.5lb burger, 1lb fries and a 32oz drink). Now THAT was a tastey burger! Where'd you say you got that? Big Juds burger? Yep, that's right Mr. Jackson. Or should I say Mr Bacon....16 strips worth. The normal sized burgers i saw there were, well, normal sized. But the subset of burgers contained by a custom 10" bun were worth writing home about. Oh, and yes, they have tots instead of fries. And you'll have plenty of tots to share with your classmates.

Wish we had known they were closing at 3pm on the 4th of July! We rolled into town salivating at the thought of Big Jud's at 3:40. :( It looked desolate outside, so we called and they said they had closed at 3 and were just cleaning up. Bummer, man!

We ate there a few weeks ago and I have to say it was the worst hamburger I have eaten. The meat was some sort of a gray mass that didn't resemble any beef I haver seen. Tried a couple of bites and left the rest. Would never go back.

So good! The burgers (normal sized ones) are tasty and the buns are especially soft/sweet without being mushy. The fries are thick and yummy. We got an order of tater tots because we were starving and our waitress promised they would come out fast. The waitresses were all very nice. The soda comes in vats, more so than cups--huge portions all around. Two small sides were more than enough for two adults to share, with regular burgers each. I would definitely go back. And did I mention the burgers are $5, and the sides are $2? GREAT prices. Charming place, and the fact that it was on TV just adds to the fun.

Yeah, this place is pretty good. I had to eat hear after seeing it on Man vs. Food. So this was my destination point...BIG JUDS. Actually, I saw two older gentlemen order that huge 3 pound or whatever pound burger...the only thing I could do was look on in amazement as those two devoured it....back in the younger days I might have tried something like that, but I'm trying to maintain waist these days and I'm only good for the basic stuff. The burger was good!!! I had a basic bacon and cheese hamburger, and it was a delight to my mouth. Actually I wish I had something like this here in Danville....the price is right! the place is an old school down home joint, and the meat tasted good ( both beef and bacon), and when you put it all together ...wowowow!!!! you have a really good hamburger! oh yeah...the shakes! Real Ice cream and really good! Bottom-line -- I would go to this place every week if it were close to me here in Danville, Ca.

After watching Man Vs Food, I had to try this place. I ordered the bacon, mushroom, grilled onion burger with a side of tator tots..........Just fucking awesome....!!! The burger was so flavorful.....the mix of onions, mushrooms, bacon and hamburger was soooooo good. The tots came with a special sauce (thousand island dressing)..... loved it. Great place.....and supercheap!!

Somewhat of an imcomplete review, as we only had milkshakes. But their milkshakes were darn good, and the atmosphere was great as well. A tiny old dive that has a ton of history and a ton of charm. Next time I'm in Boise I'll have to come back for a burger, and we'll see if it can grab that last star.

Went to Big Jud's with son based off of all the hype. The place was full on a Monday lunch with many people doing the burger challenge and taking pictures. We had normal burgers and son had the double pastrami burger and loved it! Pros: Good burger and great gimmick. Cons; Slow service and cleanliness For great burgers I go to Main Street in Meridian

After traveling to Boise almost every month for a year, I finally got a chance to visit Big Juds. I've been craving to go to this place for so long having seen the restaurant on Man vs. Food. The hamburgers looked delicious and when the host (Adam) ordered the bacon, mushroom, grilled onion burger, I just knew my diet to eat healthy was going out the window. I'm glad I did....this was such a good, greasy, tasty, and filling burger for the price of what you would pay at McDonalds. They even serve you a huge bottomless drink and a large order of fries for like 2 bucks each. I admit the fries were nothing to write home about, but that burger is definitely top notch. I'm a bit surprised this place only has 7 reviews (now 8 with mine) since it's such a great place to grab a delicious burger. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something good, cheap, and fast in Boise.

Just like it's name all portions are big! The building is a bit small but it has lots of personality in it. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Their home cut fries are great but their Huckleberry Heaven shake was the best I've had in a while. The kids all enjoyed their food. Will definitley stop by again if I'm ever in the Boise area.

Okay so you are in Boise, Idaho. Forget your diet and New Year's Resolution and pig out one day for lunch or dinner. Mostly likely you'll have left-overs. They have single and double patty beef and chicken burgers. All of them I've had ROCK!! For the value $8 bucks for a Buffalo Chicken burger with all the fixings and fried tater-tots...mmmmm. Who even serves Idaho tater-tots anymore? That in itself is worth going. Great service, small local joint with a Man Vs. Food challenge burger that can feel a few small nations.

Enormous and exceptional burger. 3 of us couldnt finish it...and we ordered the little 1 pounder. The restraunt is very small inside. Not a fan of the fries...too thick, and limp. The onion rings were battered and generous. A definate "MUST DO" if you are on a Boise run.

Big Juds deserves a spot in Ripley's Believe it or Not for selling, on their regular menu, a burger the size of a large pizza and thick as a three layer cake. They call if the 'Big Jud Special' and special it is, for sure. The menu claims it's a one pounder, and I'm gonna say they're liars because I know my burgers and one of my favorites of all times (out of business for now, damn it!), Original Joe's at 144 Taylor in San Francisco, served a one pounder all the time and I never finished one sober (drunk doesn't count) because it was too damn big. This monster dwarfs any burger I've ever seen, and miraculously, it's great, truly delicious. So my partner and I order it one luke warm afternoon, and I almost gag when it arrives, because it covers, fills a platter the size my Mom used to put the Thanksgiving Turkey on for carving. I am staggered by more than the size, the presentation is picture perfect and then, when I take the first bite I instantly know they are pro's with their burgers. The meat was cooked to order, the flying saucer size bun is toasted, the cheese is melted just right and the fixings are fresh and cool, adding balance and tastiness to the mix. Sticking out of the center of this piece of edible art is a man size steak knife you will need to carve this beauty into sections that will become your primary meal for the next week if you're smart. So in addition to their regular fresh cut fries, Big Juds offers tater tots, another dark passage to heaven for this burger guru. Damn, this place smokes. The burger focused menu offers milkshakes and soda's, several other sandwiches, all prepared and served in a diner type joint that is fun, noisy and filled with regulars and tourists alike which is a testament to high quality everywhere a man travels. Everything this place prepares and serves is genuine high quality and really good on the taste buds. This visit we ordered the regular size burger fare which by normal standards is huge and super delicious, and we left unable to try their desserts for a 2nd time, but boy were we happy campers. As long as I walk among the living and can get my ass to Boise, Bid Juds is on my list of places I've got to pay my respects. This place deserves a spot in the burger hall of fame.

Had to try Big Jud's while in Boise from the Man vs Food show. We were torn between Boise Fry Co and Big Jud's. So we drove to check them both out. Big Jud's had more of a dive feel so we opted for it. The place is small but we were able to get in since it was only two of us. After we arrived there was a swarm of people to get a table. I woldn't recommend going with a party more than 4, can be hard to get seating all together plus the booths are on the small side anyways. My wife and I opted for the 1lb burger combo (fries, drinks, ice cream, burger). It was plenty for the two of us. Burger is ridiculous. One good thing is that the bun is airy so it's not as thick as you think it will be when eating it. Fries were also thick cut (which I love). So many fries we couldn't finish. And to top it all off, waffle cones! All this for $25 with tip! What a deal! Waitresses were also very nice and provided good service for how busy it was! Only knock is that they don't serve beer!

What can I say, this is my absolute favorite place for a burger. I am partial to the mushroom bacon burger, but the blue cheese and bacon is fantastic. The fries are thick and actually resemble potatoes, skins and all. No extra charge for their fry sauce and the classic rock soundtrack is perfect for clogging your arteries. You can share a large fry with 3 grown men or a family of 4. If you haven't tried Juds, shame on you. Go support one of the few mom and pop joints we have left.

Pretty darn good hamburger for the price. Good tater tots too but their fry sauce was a little "meh". And their mountain dew was the best I've ever had!

In Boise (hubs had surgery) and had to stay around the motel for the night so ordered takeout. He had a bacon cheeseburger and tots and I had a mushroom burger and onion rings. Huge burgers ( I couldn't even eat 1/2 my burger) and the onion rings were delish! Even though he was doped up on pain pills he could still appreciate a great burger!

It's ok, but I expected more. The bacon cheese burger was fine, but nothing to get excited about. Really, the shredded iceberg lettuce and a single paper thin slice of sickly pink tomato left me wondering what is all the hype about? I tore off pieces of the meat and tasted it in it's natural form and it's just plain and nothing special. The fries? Yeah it's hand cut and thick, but IMO it's too thick. Even fried to over doness, there's still too much moisture and it's soggy within minutes. There are better places for both burger and fries in town. Overall, perfectly serviceable for what it is, but I don't get the hype and attention this place is getting.

Delicious burgers, but the sides are the real stars. I love the jalepeno burger with sour cream, but honestly, try them all.

Big Juds burgers get points for the novelty & gimmicks, I suppose, but not for their tasty burgers. The patties are dry, don't have a lot of flavor, and the service is slow. It's a tiny place with lines snaking out the doors. It took 2 of us to finish the 1 pounder and we left the fries. The 'secret' fry sauce made up of ketchup and mayo was better than expected. The sauce complements the fries and isn't too harsh as to cover up the taste of the potatoes (unlike plain ketchup). They make shakes with any ice cream flavor they have--the huckleberry shake was great.

I don't get to Big Juds enough b/c I live in Meridian but wow. I tried to eat their 2 lb burger b/c I thought 1 lb was a walk in the park. After yelling at the girl behind the counter and dipping my french fries in my soda (Kobayashi trick), I stumbled out of the place unsuccessful (I only had a couple of bites left but there just was no room left to put it). One of the greatest memories I've had at a burger joint though. And the milkshakes are top of the line.

Visiting Boise from Portland again, I went back to Big Juds for lunch after having been there about 2 months ago. I had the same great experience. The place is really clean, the staff is friendly, the food was fantastic. The Blue Bacon burger and fries is amazing. The staff asked me 2-3 times if everything was OK, and then said thanks and goodbye when I left. What else can you say?

Okay, so this is not somewhere you're going for the ambience. When I went with some local friends who insisted that this was the burger in town, I had severe doubts when I saw some wayward fries on the floor, basic b-flat plastic tables and benches, and lots of loud kids. However. Big Juds earns five stars if only for the fact that they serve the best burgers not only in Boise, but I'm fairly confident in the state. The menu is really varied, with some incredibly delicious and creative burger options. I had the fajita burger, and have yet to find one to beat it. The menu also includes a large variety of chicken sandwices, homemade ice cream, sides, and a couple salads-sorry vegetarians, this is probably not the place for you! COME HUNGRY, and if you are feeling particularly ambitious/have been stranded on a desert island for six years and need sustanance pronto, attempt to finish the 1 lb. Big Jud Special or the fifteen scoop/five topping Hungry Heifer Ice Cream Sundae. A local hot spot, I can't recommend this place enough.

Good burgers, but overrated. Slightly overpriced. Small dining area (don't bring a group larger than four during the lunch rush) but it turns over quickly.

I ordered the Big Judd burger to-go. It was the biggest burger I have ever seen or tasted. It is about the size of a frizbee 7-8 inches in diameter! I especially loved the tater tots with thousand island dipping sauce, not because it was so delicious, but a change from French fries was great.

We used a recent Groupon for the Big Jud's special. First time there. Small little place, but the staff was nice and the burger (yes, the really big burger) was really good. We'll go back again!

Feeling guilty after watching diners and drive ins re-run on a recent trip to the bay area cause there was Big Juds and even though I moved from CA 13 yrs ago I have never been in. I have driven by it so many times or stopped to get gas close by I guess I never went in as it doesn't look that appealing inside or out. There were mostly BSU faculty there and a few other people all guys yep every single one so they love it! I walked in and was told sit anywhere the waitress was friendly and quick service. I ordered the mushroom cheeseburger minus the mayo and asked for ranch instead and they got it right-always a plus nothing urks me more than getting your burger back the wrong way. I also got small fries and a chocolate shake Burger was fantastic lots of fresh mushrooms and grilled onions gooey cheese perfect. Choc shake came out before my lunch with the extra. In an old fashioned silver goblet very yummy! I love the generic squeezy red plastic ketchup bottles pity there were no great fries to go with them ;( It being Idaho and hearing about the big hand cut fries etc and after going to IN N Out a week ago this was going to be the real test. Sorely dissapointed so took off one star in this review. My fries were very plentiful so I would have barely eaten half of them if they had been good anyway. They were a little burned on the ends and just didn't taste good, like the oil needed to be changed is the best way to describe it. I asked for malt vinegar and was told they don't offer it anymore but get asked for it often.I would have gladly paid for some so if they are cutting back they may want to consider that. No fry sauce was offered or mentioned but after reading reviews I know they do have that. Will I go back? Yes for sure so I can give the fries one more shot as but I am taking my vinegar with me when I do. One of the better burgers I've had in Boise but dinning area is a total dive they seem to be busy so hope they do some updating to the decor

AWESOME! Really nice staff and other customers were really nice too. We stopped in on a cross country drive and were really happy to feel so welcomed. I say this bc it really us a small place so you kind of have to speak to everyone :) Had the Blue Chz burger and husband had mushroom bacon. We both loved them and prices are great!!

I grew up on the Eastern side of the state and used to go to the original Big Juds; as a kid I remembered it being absolutely incredible. As an adult? It's alright. It's nice for a hometown place and has some unique thing but it's not the best at anything. Definitely worth going to if you're after a local place that is unique and solid!

I'm ashamed I didn't write a review many years ago. That's what happens when you live so close to such a great place to eat. I have eaten many a burger here, but I must admit I can't eat one of the big ones. I have to ask for a take out container. I always enjoy the atmosphere, friendly service, and pictures on the walls of all of those BSU football players that can eat the big burgers. This is the only place I have ever brought my eldest son that he couldn't eat the whole thing. I did enjoy watching him try. But eventually he raised the white flag and gave up. Our family of four kids and thirteen grand kids still love to go here for lunch. You'll agree this is one of the best anywhere.

Best burger joint in Boise. The burgers are large and tasty, and about on par with Bad Boy's burgers. The bleu bacon, ortega and fajita burgers are all interesting concoctions that offer something different than the usual burger options. They tend to be a tad more expensive than Bad Boy, but where Big Jud's has the advantage is with their hand-cut fries. If you're ordering tater tots here, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! The place rivals Hugo's and Highlands Hollow (and maybe various offerings at the Boise Fry Co. now) as having the best fries in the city. The first time I came here, the fries were given to me in long thick chunks, and there was a ton of them. I haven't gotten them as long and thick since, but they're still fairly thick. But much like In-N-Out's fries, eat them as quickly as possible before they get cold (hint: order them well done so they're crispy and to avoid any limpness issues). The shakes and malts are pretty good too. Not insanely great but decent.

We go here for the ice cream/malts/shakes/sundaes more then for the food, which is really saying something because the food is above average. It's usually pretty busy, which speaks to how good it is, but you can get the dessert treats to go as well. Great in the summer. The dive-burger restaurant, only as Boise can do it.
