My husband and I went to Asiago's on a Sunday evening. We had reservations and were immediately seated. The restaurant was cozy and very friendly. Our server was initially very attentive but she was also working a lot of tables. We ordered an appetizer and from there everything was "off." We ordered the champagne mushroom appetizer. It was a bowl of garlicky yumminess but no one came to take our dinner order and no bread arrived until we were down to the last mushroom. We both ordered entrees from the specials menu. I ordered the lasagna and my husband the steak. The lasagna was bland. It literally lacked any type of flavor. There was too much chunks of boring flavorless dry turkey chunks and the noodles tasted like uncooked dough. My husband ordered the steak. It was nicely seared and tasted good. The grilled vegetables (eggplant, onions) that came with the steak was awful. It had so much oregano that one could not taste the vegetables at all. It was horridly bitter and inedible. The oddest thing was that both the lasagna and the steak were topped off with salsa--like a mild pico de gallo--that did nothing to enhance the flavor but rather was just weird. The staff overall were nice and tried hard to be attentive. We appreciated this. The food was very disappointing. The only things that was really good from our meal was the mushroom appetizer and the steak. Everything else was mediocre to just plain inedible.
Went here on my anniversary. It wasn't perfect but it was really really nice. Really enjoyed the wine we ordered and our app. The salad was huge! They naled one of our entree's but the other one we specifically asked for no olives and it came with olives so it wasn't as good as it could have been. With that said, sitting on the patio and the service and most of the food, we loved our experience and will be back!

Traveling through Boise, ate here based on good reviews. Atmosphere warm and intimate. Staff friendly and helpful. Wine was outstanding (never had before; restaurant-recommended). Shared a pear/apple/Gorgonzola/candied pecan/arugula salad--outstanding. Fantastic warm bread and dipping oil/balsamic. Only downside was main dish. Husband ordered eggplant caprese on grilled polenta. He does not care for fried food; eggplant was a bit heavy, but had good flavor. Polenta however was kept war too long on grill--had burnt flavor. I had Bolzano, a homemade linguini pasta with olive oil and roasted veggies. I enjoyed it, and would order again. This is not the absolute best restaurant we have ever been to, but if we lived here, we would go frequently, I'm sure.

I have been to Asiago's before at the old location, and had decent meals, and decided to give it another try. I was definitely disappointed. The food was just okay, nothing horrible but nothing too exceptional either. The service was the major disappointment. My husband and I were shuffled to a dark room despite there being a completely open and bare dining room, and we listened as other tables were read specials and were suggested wine pairings. We simply had menus slapped down on the table and had to flag down our less than busy waiter to order and to get another round of drinks. Would not recommend to other diners and will definitely not be back!

Our food was hot, unique, and delicious! The presentation was what you would expect in a restaurant that steps above the others. The decor was comfortable and fun. Topping our list however, was the service. Our server, Melissa, has that unique and rare balance between providing great service and stepping away at the right time. She knows how to read her guests. Her suggestions were appropriate and genuine. She made sure when we first arrived to ask if we had other plans that might impact our time at the restaurant. We did, in fact, have plans for the rest of the evening and she made sure that we were on our way in a timely manner. We couldn't ask for anything more. It was a most enjoyable evening.

Boise isn't really a food mecca, but this place stands up with quality. I only go here maybe twice a year but every time I go I have a wonderful experience. Last time we went there we had a bigger party. The service was fantastic, very observant and attentive. The prices aren't that bad either for what you get. I have never had a bad meal there yet, but I always get the same thing, the gnocchi! It's flippin fantastic. I love the rosemary dish and the butternut squash is like dessert, it's wonderful! I highly suggest anyone try this dish, it's great!

We dined at Asiago's on 10/10/09, and despite having a reservation for 7:15 PM, we were not seated until after 7:45 PM. Many others with reservations were in a similar situation, being told they would have to wait 45 minutes or more to be seated. During that time, Open table was still showing Asiago's had seatings as little as 15 minutes out. It became apparent while we were there that one of the causes of the back-up was that Asiago's was seating walk-ins along with their reservations. Asiago's needs to make up their mind - either they honor reservations, or they should stop taking them. And there is obviously a problem with their OpenTable installation which should be resolved pronto before they alienate their most loyal customers. Once seated, our service was very sub-par. Our waiter was inattentive and frankly seemed stoned. He did not once refill a drink without being asked. The only thing that salvaged the evening was the company, and the typically outstanding food which was well presented and packed with phenomenal flavor and textures. We like Asiago's and hope they get their operations problems ironed out quickly.

Awesome! Another business dinner! Okay... Not a huge fan of Italian food, but eh, this place was okay. I probably wouldn't go there on my own... but hmm... let's see... Appetizers: 2/5 - Mushrooms in champagne & butter sauce (so-so at best), Bruschetta (didn't try it, didn't look great), Bread and toppings - garlic spread, olive spread, tomato topping (ehhhh), and calamari (I've had MUCH better...)... Salad: 4/5 - Probably my favorite of the night... I had the "L'enigma" - Apple chutney, cheese, and walnuts atop field greens. It was such a different flavor than I was used to... The sweet, savory, and crunch of the nuts was AWESOME. Entree: 2/5 - Pesce - glazed salmon atop a rissoto. The first bite of the fish was HORRIBLY fishy tasting. The rest of the fish was okay... but that first bite really threw me off. Not to mention the third bite, I got a BONE. WTF?! That should've automatically killed the dish... but with the creme and the rissoto... it was a little better. =/ Dessert: 4/5 - Chipotle brownie w/ chile-chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream. My first time to try "spicy" chocolate. I really loved the contrast - wasn't too spicy, but had a nice hint of it after the sweet. Considering my two favorite dishes were the tastes I've never had, I'd have to say this place wasn't a huge hit... but it was decent. The ambience - nice - I loved the jazz in the background. But probably one of the worst things of the night was the waiter. He was working WAY too hard for his obligatory 18% tip... =/ 14 people - appetizers, salads, entrees, wine, and desserts... a little more than $800... Honestly, I would probably not go there alone. If I was invited, I might go again to try something else "new" for my tastebuds. So again - okay if you're being paid to go... otherwise, I'd skip it.

So bummed to have to give this restaurant three stars. I wanted to give two stars, but I know that my experience had to have been a fluke. The service was excellent, and the staff was well informed and helpful. I ordered the bruschetta for starters. It was really excellent. For an entree, I ordered the veal scallopini with pasta. The pasta was al dente (just right). But I believe that the veal was cooked in oil that was not up to temperature. It looked great, but the breading was soaked with oil. I could not I ate four or five bites hoping that all the veal was not soggy with oil. But it was. Forgot what I ordered for dessert, but I remember enjoying it. The coffee was also exceptional. I plan to give this restaurant another try when I'm in the Boise area. Hopefully I can change my review.

Let me just start by saying that the 3 stars I gave this restaurant was only because of the good service, fantastic decor, and because they honor Passports which entails you receive a complimentary entree if dining with someone else, or receive 20% of your bill if dining alone. We were seated promptly, although, we had to request another table because it was blindingly bright no matter what side of the table you sat on from the afternoon sun. When we got settled, we started with waters and ended up not drinking any wine as it was a big early in the day and we rode our bikes. The server brought out fresh, hot bread with a mini bucket of asiago cheese to add to our olive oil and balsamic vinegar - delicious. This was a 5/5 hands down. My boyfriend ordered a salad, which I wasn't too fond of but he seemed like he somewhat enjoyed it. I ordered the LIGURIA: spinach fettuccine with tomato in a white wine-lemon cream sauce with fresh dill, available with shrimp or scallops. I chose the shrimp. The homemade spinach fettuccine was of great consistency - not too mushy, not too hard, perfectly el dente. The tomato in the sauce was fresh and cut into cubes which was delightful as well. Unfortunately, these two components didn't make up for the white wine lemon sauce that reminded me of Kraft macaroni and cheese sauce. Yeah you heard me. The PACKAGED dust that miraculously turns into a cheesy, watery mess one is supposed to ingest. The added dill was awkward on the pallet as well. This concludes the food part with a 2/5. The decor in the restaurant though, I have to give it to them, was definitely nice: artsy mod meets Country Italian. Old barrels as walk in tables and at the hostess stands were great touches as well as the deep reds, browns and burnt oranges around the bar area. Everything was clean, well kept and pleasing to the eye. They did a great job on the re-model (I assume that's why the Cole location closed and the downtown location re-located and expanded). I've been to Asiago's quite a few times and always leave a bit unsatisfied and disappointed that I keep giving it another chance when Gino's is right down the road and I have NEVER had a bad dish or bad service in the 5 years I've frequented it. This is the last time I'll go to Asiago's even though their prices are pretty good... unless of course we're going for a glass of wine and appetizers - then maybe I'll THINK about it.

Yum! We had a REALLY large group, think 100+, for a conference and Asiago's did an AWESOME job catering to our group. We were served family style and they brought out plate after plate of yummy goodness. I couldn't believe how much food we had. We tried everything - appetizers, pasta dishes, meat entrees and of course desert! I cannot even name all the things that we had because we had so much. I highly recommend using Asiago's if you have a large group. Everyone left satisfied and Asiago's even let us keep the leftovers. The folks working in our Boise office we very happy people at lunchtime the following day. Cannot say enough great things about them - great food and amazing service!

We've been to Asiagos many times including the old Cole location. Back then I always left feeling like their was something missing in the food. Flavor, pizazz, what have you. Well since they opened the dowtown location it has filled in what was missing flavorwise. It seems every time I come back it gets better and better. The service from Erin was top notch and attentive. The atmosphere is lovely. We started with minestronie for the hubby. And I had the Tuscan hummus. Hubby says soup is some of the best he's had. I would agree as I've had a small taste but it's beef broth and I don't do beef. My hummus was homemade with grilled pita bread served with two sides. One a tomato relish and the other a caper tomato relish. It was yummy. Both of us ordered the Meditarranio. I had mine with chicken and hubby had his with spicy sausage. Boy was that delicious. Just the right amount of heat with red chiles and artichoke hearts. The tomatoes, basil and the homemade fettucine was so good and fresh. Truely delicious. We topped it off with the tirimisou. Good but not the best I've had. That honor goes to Tonys Teattro .I must say their chocolate desserts looked delicious, so will try those on a return visit. All in all a very pleasant experience.

I am sad the Cole St location is no more, but I understand the downtown location has expanded. I sure hope so, it was tiny. This restaurant has one of the better ambiances in town, and their wait staff is always very professional with Excellent Diction. Must be a requirement. We don't go here much, but consider it a 'special occasion' food place. People do wear jeans, but the nice ones. This is Boise, people wear jeans to the opera and the symphony. It's a little weird to me, but it's accepted. Every time, the food, service, wine have been excellent. I tend to get the 'Mediterraneo,' a fettucine dish with capers and a light, spicy sauce. I have issues trying new things, but once I tried a butternut squash risotto, and it was excellent. Desserts are basic Italian-style and some tasty seasonals, espresso is available. Edit: Tried the "Idaho" lasagne and it was disappointing. The beef was a thin layer across the bottom and had almost no seasoning, tasted like it was boiled or something. The penne layer was difficult to navigate. The tomato sauce was quite good! For dessert I tried the lime mascarpone tart, which was floury. Sad. For some reason the hub's tiramisu was missing cinnamon.

We just had dinner there tonight. After an extremely stressful week on the job, it seemed a good time to treat ourselves. My husband ordered a spinach pasta with a smoked tomato sauce and spicy sausage and I ordered a spinach pasta with a creamy pesto basil sauce and shrimp. We both had a Caesar salad to begin the meal and it was entirely flavorless. The dressing had no acid/bite to it, it was just entirely insignificant and I didn't find it interesting enough to finish. My food was way too heavy on the garlic.I do love Italian food in many forms, but this was not worth the price. My husband was even more disappointed than I was. I have been there before as I work downtown. He made a special trip downtown from his business and it was his first time there. I don't think I'll be able to convince him to go back as there are chain restaurants close to home that serve equally as good or better Italian food. I was sad that the meal was so weak.

Took the wife to Asiagos for our 6th anniversary. Food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Our appetizer consisted of thinly sliced aged beef with sides of cheese, horseradish, and bread. great restaurant! small, quaint restaurant with rustic decor and patio dining. they have cute lights hanging from the ceiling and everything. the food was incredible too. had the risotto appetizer stuffed with brie cheese. -excellent. for my entree, i had the red and green pepper panzanella with grilled salmon - WOW! perfectly seasoned.. perfect amount of dressing. my husband had a spicy shrimp pasta --it was VERY spicy, but very good. we weren't planning to have dessert, but the couple next to us had something that looked really good, so we had to have some.. the tiramisu was great too. perfectly balanced, very creamy yet no alcoholly aftertaste. the bread was yummy too. service was great. would highly recommend this place, an would definitely go back if ever in boise again.

I don't quite know what to say about this place, but I feel compelled to say something. The good: The servers are friendly and it seems clean. Service is a little slow, but acceptable. The bad: The food is an absolute disappointment every time. Last time, it was severely overcooked calamari, and this time was "risotto" that was essentially Mediterranean rice pilaf. The server did offer to have it fixed or replaced, but I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes while my table was eating. If this is what they send out as risotto, then they clearly don't know how to make risotto in the first place. I don't know what it is. Absent kitchen management? Inept kitchen management? I just don't get it. Risotto and pasta are staples of an Italian restaurant, and they don't know how to prepare either. I have a feeling there's a bunch of cans of marinated artichoke hearts and cooked tomatoes that they just dump into each sad dish. I originally was going to give three stars, as there are always plenty of people there that seem to enjoy it, however I just couldn't do it. More often than not, the wine is gross as well. I don't know who the sommelier is but they must smoke too many cigarettes to have any practical use of their taste buds. As with every place I visit, I invite them to improve, but Asiago's a disappointment every time.

Met some friends there for a double dinner date (ohhhhh, alliteration) this weekend. We had been meaning to try it as a head to head against Alavita. I honestly prefer the vibe at Alavita a bit more, but the food at Asiago's is certainly equally as good and quite a bit easier on your pocketbook as compared to Alavita. Drink a couple bottles of wine as we did and that cost savings on the food front comes back to welcome you with a smile when your very reasonable check hits the table.

This place is a class act and I was surprised to see that I'd never reviewed it before. There are some seriously classic items we like to eat here, such as their funghi dish, which is mushrooms sauteed in CHAMPAGNE! So good. This time, we had the Adriatica appetizer, which is Asiago's take on kalamari. The squid was done in a polenta batter and served with some outstanding aioli. The flavor was killer. I'll make this short, for now, but this is probably one of the most legit upscale Italian eateries in my experiences in this state.

We got there a little after they opened on a Sunday and the service was quick and professional. Food was spendy (to be expected) but extremely delicious! The quality and quantity of food was worth the price. Tiramisu was a pretty large portion and one of the better Tiramisu's I've had around Boise. The place was clean, well decorated, and had a good atmosphere. Only possible complaint was that the mocha was too syrupy and I couldn't taste the coffee. Overall, I will return for the delicious food!

I've eaten at Asiago's previously and been generally impressed with the food and satisfied with the service. However, my visit on September 16, 2013 started strong, but finished as a train wreck. The evening started nice as we were celebrating a friends recent engagement. We ordered a couple of appetizers, which were awesome, and ordered our entrees. After waiting for an hour the waiter told us our food would be right out. When it arrived the food was horrible! I ordered a steak, which was delivered cold with a charred carbon crust because it was burned so bad. Two orders of gnocchi had the texture of plastic and the flavor of what I imagine bath beads to taste like. All four entrees were sent back and we ended our evening at Jack-in-the-box, were the food was both better prepared and edible. I must comment that our server, I believe his name was Kenneth, was outstanding. He was understanding and apologetic. At the end he only charged us for the appetizers (which were the best part of the meal) and drinks. We didn't pay for the un edible entrees, and he gave each couple a $30 gift certificate for a future visit.

Awesome Italian bread and alfredo. Located in downtown Boise and once you enter it has a really cozy feel to it and they live up to their Italian expectations. Not only are you able to enjoy and meal there they also have a full bar so you can have a nice environment to drink instead of going to the thick of downtown and dealing with a lot of foot traffic and noise. Recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a American Italian cuisine.

Came in a crowded Saturday night without reservations and had to sit at the bar, but it worked out great because we were taken care of by Bob behind the bar, who was not only very personable but quite knowledgeable as well. Atmosphere is great, even at the bar, and the food is even better. Calamari strips are a good appetizer, and the lasagna is memorable. I had a cappucino and a bite of cheesecake for dessert. Looking forward to my next trip to Boise!

Very good food and service. Melissa was fantastic, friendly and knowledgable. We had the traditional lasagne, risotto with salmon, antipasto, and lime tart.. All were outstanding with generous portions. Not sure what some of the negative reviews were about, maybe they should stick with the Olive Garden? We will definitely be back and would recommend it.

Asiago offers nouveau italian fare at reasonable prices. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and prompt. For the appetizer, I had the Monopoli which had greek influences including hummus and baba ghanoush. For dinner, the vitello caprese had a lemon vermouth reduction which particularly liked. It concluded with a creme brulee, a very french dessert, well executed none the less.

Just ok. Had the Steak special and substituted pasta for the potatoes. Paid an extra $7 for 2 shrimp that were supposed to taste like Ginger/Lime. They were flavorless. Steak was just ok and being Italian, I wanted to taste their basic red sauce. The red sauce will say everything and sad to say, it was less than average. I've only been here once so I decided to try the most expensive meal they had and I won't be going back. Restaurant is loud, and as a lot of restaurants downtown, parking wasn't good. Not fun walking on a cold winter night.

I really don't know how to rate this place. We went to lunch and it was a 10 star. Everything was better than perfect. We had the bruschetta to start. The toast was fantastic and the tomato mixture was perfect. Then the salad, that was enjoyable. The main dishes were the lasagna which has to be the best one we ever had. We also had the clam linguine that was to die for. See our photos (3) of our amazing lunch. The service couldn't have been better. It was a perfect lunch. Then we brought our friend later that week for dinner. After we raved how good it was, we were quickly brought down to earth. We started with the bruschetta and it looked the same but the bread were so soggy it made it a sad disappointment. As for our main dishes, not one of the four we would ever re-order. My spinach fettuccine was over cooked and I hardly touch it. My friends were not to happy with their selections. They too just picked at their food. As for the service, it was not at all busy but lets just say it was a long long long night with food that did not make up for it. I would love to re-live my first visit because it was as if we were in food heaven. After talking to Boise residents, they say this place is know for not being consistent.

I made a reservation via opentable.com for an early dinner. We arrived at the restaurant and were told that we didn't have a reservation and could only sit outside. At the time, there were probably three tables occupied in the entire restaurant. I was pregnant and had an obvious bump and it was a very hot evening. I share this not because I expect the world to cater to me because I'm pregnant, but I would imagine if the maitre'd was going to be kind to anyone, it would be to a pregnant person. The sun was shining on the tables, but we opted to sit outside, which was extremely uncomfortable. Our server was polite, but it was too hot to have an enjoyable meal. The food was no better than decent - not really worth the cost or the discomfort or the snottiness. By the time we left, the restaurant was only about half full, so we easily could have been seated inside. Oh, and because it was so hot, we brought our check inside to pay rather than waiting at the table and stood waiting for someone to take our money for another 15 minutes before we could leave. It was overall a totally negative experience and we'll never dine here again.

Not a good experience. At all. Everything was just off. I had their version of sort of a lamb parmesan, it was so tough I could not even cut it with a fork and knife, the pasta was extremely bland, and our server reminded our table twice that his tip was not included in the price of our ticket. Will not be back. That being said, for a Monday night they were extremely busy, so maybe Boise residents are seeing something I am not. * side note, I know in Italy they cook their food with a lot less flavors than here in the US. I have been to Italy and love their food. Secondly, we only had a party of five, not six. At six people they add gratuity on automatically. There was no need to remind our table twice about the tip, it was insulting.

Asiago's on Cole Rd was my favorite restaurant when it was open. Great food, charming atmosphere and cheerful staff. Plus being able to watch one of the chefs from your table was pretty nifty. The downtown location is pretty nice, as well, but doesn't seem to have the same boisterous environment. It's more dim and personal, rather than bright and family like. It's been several years between visits to the downtown location, but the draw for me seems to have diminished on each return visit. The staff, though pleasant and friendly, seemed to go through the motions, quickly running tables here and there. The food itself, with smaller portions, seemed to have grown even more bland than the previous visit. On our most recent visit, the Cinque Formagge was nice, but a bit generic and a little too soft. The chicken lasagna's chicken was dry and overcooked, which made for an extremely dense and chewy dish. However, they had a new pizza appetizer, with fennel turkey, that was amazing and was the highlight of our meal. Pricing is pretty average for the food and service and it's still a nice treat from time to time, but it just doesn't seem to be the same as it was.

Everything went as expected as to restaurant standards, as far as I can tell. The prices were fair, good for a date, I suppose. If I only like Italian food as much as I like a cheeseburger then I think I would rate Asiago's a higher rating. Other comments about the bread are correct. I went here feeling a bit of relief that there was an Italian place in downtown Boise that wasn't run by a pompous guy with a mustache (you may know the man I'm talking about) and expected big things judging by the prices on the menu and the amazing smells in the air. With the exception of the bread I found it to be mediocre. The service was great, so no complaints there, but the food was kind of bland and definitely not the type of Italian food to which I've grown accustomed. I expect Italian to be simple flavors, well executed. Everything seemed highly seasoned to the point where I thought it was covering up the flavors of the ingredients and I didn't see much in the way of genuine Italian rather than Italian-American on the menu. It is possible I ordered the wrong dish (some sort of pasta with chicken) and it's possible that this just isn't the type of Italian food I grew up eating. Maybe I will come back for another round since others seem to like it so much and, when I do, I hope to be able to improve my rating.

My husband and I walked into the restaurant at 5:40 pm on a Sunday and stood there in the entryway for a few minutes before we were acknowledged and asked if we had a reservation, we said no so then we were offered to sit at the "bar" which was really a counter by the cash register by the door, we declined and were told we couldn't get seated without a reservation even when there were many empty tables, they didn't even offer to let us wait for anytime to get us in it was really awkward and we left there never to return again because no food is good enough to be treated like that.

Our food was most enjoyable. My wife and I shared a salad which was fresh and delicious. Her spinach pasta entree brought rave reviews and my pasta shells in olive oil with mushrooms and garlic was delicious. Our waitress suggested a modest-priced wine which was excellent. The atmosphere is lively but not loud and the dinner variety is sure to offer something for everybody. Oh, and the dessert. Ancho chili chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Yummy. I would recommend Asiago's to anybody that likes good food with an Italian theme.

When compared to similarly priced restaurants in other metropolitan areas the quality of the entrees earns about 3 stars; bread=3 stars; near frozen salad=2 stars; service=keep reading... On first visit, the service was excellent by any standard. Our server Ray was extraordinarily informative, friendly and attentive. On second visit, the service was unacceptably poor--we sat at the table for about 15 minutes without being greeted once by our server. She walked by our table at least 8 or 9 times and looked at us, but never said a single word. Never asked if we want wine or anything else to drink, did not ask if we wanted appetizers or salad, never went over the specials, nothing... Service throughout the rest of the meal was mediocre at best--never asked us if we wanted more wine, water refills came very sparingly, server had a cold and slightly unpleasant demeanor throughout the meal. And this was during an only moderately busy weeknight. 3rd visit was somewhere in between. Server was friendly and informative, but again, very slow to greet our table and only moderately attentive at best. For the third visit in a row, our salads were served nearly frozen. The Italian Asiago's serves is in the top half of what you'll find in Boise. But barely. And there's not much competition. And, unfortunately, the service is in the bottom half of any restaurant in town. For the price range, the service is unacceptably poor and the food is too hit or miss to say it's a good value. We won't ever return unless it's with friends who want to dine at Asiago's.

Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. My husband and I went to Asiago's on a Sunday evening. We had reservations and were immediately seated. The restaurant was cozy and very friendly. Our server was initially very attentive but she was also working a lot of tables. We ordered an appetizer and from there everything was "off." We ordered the champagne mushroom appetizer. It was a bowl of garlicky yumminess but no one came to take our dinner order and no bread arrived until we were down to the last mushroom. We both ordered entrees from the specials menu. I ordered the lasagna and my husband the steak. The lasagna was bland. It literally lacked any type of flavor. There was too much chunks of boring flavorless dry turkey chunks and the noodles tasted like uncooked dough. My husband ordered the steak. It was nicely seared and tasted good. The grilled vegetables (eggplant, onions) that came with the steak was awful. It had so much oregano that one could not taste the vegetables at all. It was horridly bitter and inedible. The oddest thing was that both the lasagna and the steak were topped off with salsa--like a mild pico de gallo--that did nothing to enhance the flavor but rather was just weird. The staff overall were nice and tried hard to be attentive. We appreciated this. The food was very disappointing. The only things that was really good from our meal was the mushroom appetizer and the steak. Everything else was mediocre to just plain inedible.

The food was incredible. It was most likely the best bruschetta I'd ever had in my life. At first, I thought my portion for the entrée looked a bit small, but as I ate it I found myself getting full readily. The presentation is very well done and I enjoyed the way the table bread was served. Namely, by placing it directly on the table with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar for garnish as well as some amazingly aged asiago cheese. The prices were also VERY reasonable. Two entrees, an appetizer, and dessert only cost ~$55. The staff were also very accommodating with substitutions and friendly, which I can thoroughly appreciate. I've been treated like dirt in the past at nicer eateries by simple virtue of my being a college student. It was refreshing to be treated with the respect afforded to someone out of college. My only caveat was the noise level in the dining room. Having walked in wearing a suit and my date wearing a black dress, I felt like the staff should have acknowledged that seating us next to a large, loud group may not have been the best seating decision. This is only worth mentioning because it was literally my only contention with the evening.

They naled one of our entree's but the other one we specifically asked for no olives and it came with olives so it wasn't as good as it could have been. Traveling through Boise, ate here based on good reviews. Atmosphere warm and intimate. Staff friendly and helpful. Wine was outstanding (never had before; restaurant-recommended). Shared a pear/apple/Gorgonzola/candied pecan/arugula salad--outstanding. Fantastic warm bread and dipping oil/balsamic. Only downside was main dish. Husband ordered eggplant caprese on grilled polenta. He does not care for fried food; eggplant was a bit heavy, but had good flavor. Polenta however was kept war too long on grill--had burnt flavor. I had Bolzano, a homemade linguini pasta with olive oil and roasted veggies. I enjoyed it, and would order again. This is not the absolute best restaurant we have ever been to, but if we lived here, we would go frequently, I'm sure.

I have been to Asiago's before at the old location, and had decent meals, and decided to give it another try. I was definitely disappointed. The food was just okay, nothing horrible but nothing too exceptional either. The service was the major disappointment. My husband and I were shuffled to a dark room despite there being a completely open and bare dining room, and we listened as other tables were read specials and were suggested wine pairings. We simply had menus slapped down on the table and had to flag down our less than busy waiter to order and to get another round of drinks. Would not recommend to other diners and will definitely not be back!

Our food was hot, unique, and delicious! The presentation was what you would expect in a restaurant that steps above the others. The decor was comfortable and fun. Topping our list however, was the service. Our server, Melissa, has that unique and rare balance between providing great service and stepping away at the right time. She knows how to read her guests. Her suggestions were appropriate and genuine. She made sure when we first arrived to ask if we had other plans that might impact our time at the restaurant. We did, in fact, have plans for the rest of the evening and she made sure that we were on our way in a timely manner. We couldn't ask for anything more. It was a most enjoyable evening.

Boise isn't really a food mecca, but this place stands up with quality. I only go here maybe twice a year but every time I go I have a wonderful experience. Last time we went there we had a bigger party. The service was fantastic, very observant and attentive. The prices aren't that bad either for what you get. I have never had a bad meal there yet, but I always get the same thing, the gnocchi! It's flippin fantastic. I love the rosemary dish and the butternut squash is like dessert, it's wonderful! I highly suggest anyone try this dish, it's great!

We dined at Asiago's on 10/10/09, and despite having a reservation for 7:15 PM, we were not seated until after 7:45 PM. Many others with reservations were in a similar situation, being told they would have to wait 45 minutes or more to be seated. During that time, Open table was still showing Asiago's had seatings as little as 15 minutes out. It became apparent while we were there that one of the causes of the back-up was that Asiago's was seating walk-ins along with their reservations. Asiago's needs to make up their mind - either they honor reservations, or they should stop taking them. And there is obviously a problem with their OpenTable installation which should be resolved pronto before they alienate their most loyal customers. Once seated, our service was very sub-par. Our waiter was inattentive and frankly seemed stoned. He did not once refill a drink without being asked. The only thing that salvaged the evening was the company, and the typically outstanding food which was well presented and packed with phenomenal flavor and textures. We like Asiago's and hope they get their operations problems ironed out quickly.

Awesome! Another business dinner! Okay... Not a huge fan of Italian food, but eh, this place was okay. I probably wouldn't go there on my own... but hmm... let's see... Appetizers: 2/5 - Mushrooms in champagne & butter sauce (so-so at best), Bruschetta (didn't try it, didn't look great), Bread and toppings - garlic spread, olive spread, tomato topping (ehhhh), and calamari (I've had MUCH better...)... Salad: 4/5 - Probably my favorite of the night... I had the "L'enigma" - Apple chutney, cheese, and walnuts atop field greens. It was such a different flavor than I was used to... The sweet, savory, and crunch of the nuts was AWESOME. Entree: 2/5 - Pesce - glazed salmon atop a rissoto. The first bite of the fish was HORRIBLY fishy tasting. The rest of the fish was okay... but that first bite really threw me off. Not to mention the third bite, I got a BONE. WTF?! That should've automatically killed the dish... but with the creme and the rissoto... it was a little better. =/ Dessert: 4/5 - Chipotle brownie w/ chile-chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream. My first time to try "spicy" chocolate. I really loved the contrast - wasn't too spicy, but had a nice hint of it after the sweet. Considering my two favorite dishes were the tastes I've never had, I'd have to say this place wasn't a huge hit... but it was decent. The ambience - nice - I loved the jazz in the background. But probably one of the worst things of the night was the waiter. He was working WAY too hard for his obligatory 18% tip... =/ 14 people - appetizers, salads, entrees, wine, and desserts... a little more than $800... Honestly, I would probably not go there alone. If I was invited, I might go again to try something else "new" for my tastebuds. So again - okay if you're being paid to go... otherwise, I'd skip it.

So bummed to have to give this restaurant three stars. I wanted to give two stars, but I know that my experience had to have been a fluke. The service was excellent, and the staff was well informed and helpful. I ordered the bruschetta for starters. It was really excellent. For an entree, I ordered the veal scallopini with pasta. The pasta was al dente (just right). But I believe that the veal was cooked in oil that was not up to temperature. It looked great, but the breading was soaked with oil. I could not I ate four or five bites hoping that all the veal was not soggy with oil. But it was. Forgot what I ordered for dessert, but I remember enjoying it. The coffee was also exceptional. I plan to give this restaurant another try when I'm in the Boise area. Hopefully I can change my review.

Let me just start by saying that the 3 stars I gave this restaurant was only because of the good service, fantastic decor, and because they honor Passports which entails you receive a complimentary entree if dining with someone else, or receive 20% of your bill if dining alone. We were seated promptly, although, we had to request another table because it was blindingly bright no matter what side of the table you sat on from the afternoon sun. When we got settled, we started with waters and ended up not drinking any wine as it was a big early in the day and we rode our bikes. The server brought out fresh, hot bread with a mini bucket of asiago cheese to add to our olive oil and balsamic vinegar - delicious. This was a 5/5 hands down. My boyfriend ordered a salad, which I wasn't too fond of but he seemed like he somewhat enjoyed it. I ordered the LIGURIA: spinach fettuccine with tomato in a white wine-lemon cream sauce with fresh dill, available with shrimp or scallops. I chose the shrimp. The homemade spinach fettuccine was of great consistency - not too mushy, not too hard, perfectly el dente. The tomato in the sauce was fresh and cut into cubes which was delightful as well. Unfortunately, these two components didn't make up for the white wine lemon sauce that reminded me of Kraft macaroni and cheese sauce. Yeah you heard me. The PACKAGED dust that miraculously turns into a cheesy, watery mess one is supposed to ingest. The added dill was awkward on the pallet as well. This concludes the food part with a 2/5. The decor in the restaurant though, I have to give it to them, was definitely nice: artsy mod meets Country Italian. Old barrels as walk in tables and at the hostess stands were great touches as well as the deep reds, browns and burnt oranges around the bar area. Everything was clean, well kept and pleasing to the eye. They did a great job on the re-model (I assume that's why the Cole location closed and the downtown location re-located and expanded). I've been to Asiago's quite a few times and always leave a bit unsatisfied and disappointed that I keep giving it another chance when Gino's is right down the road and I have NEVER had a bad dish or bad service in the 5 years I've frequented it. This is the last time I'll go to Asiago's even though their prices are pretty good... unless of course we're going for a glass of wine and appetizers - then maybe I'll THINK about it.

Yum! We had a REALLY large group, think 100+, for a conference and Asiago's did an AWESOME job catering to our group. We were served family style and they brought out plate after plate of yummy goodness. I couldn't believe how much food we had. We tried everything - appetizers, pasta dishes, meat entrees and of course desert! I cannot even name all the things that we had because we had so much. I highly recommend using Asiago's if you have a large group. Everyone left satisfied and Asiago's even let us keep the leftovers. The folks working in our Boise office we very happy people at lunchtime the following day. Cannot say enough great things about them - great food and amazing service!

We've been to Asiagos many times including the old Cole location. Back then I always left feeling like their was something missing in the food. Flavor, pizazz, what have you. Well since they opened the dowtown location it has filled in what was missing flavorwise. It seems every time I come back it gets better and better. The service from Erin was top notch and attentive. The atmosphere is lovely. We started with minestronie for the hubby. And I had the Tuscan hummus. Hubby says soup is some of the best he's had. I would agree as I've had a small taste but it's beef broth and I don't do beef. My hummus was homemade with grilled pita bread served with two sides. One a tomato relish and the other a caper tomato relish. It was yummy. Both of us ordered the Meditarranio. I had mine with chicken and hubby had his with spicy sausage. Boy was that delicious. Just the right amount of heat with red chiles and artichoke hearts. The tomatoes, basil and the homemade fettucine was so good and fresh. Truely delicious. We topped it off with the tirimisou. Good but not the best I've had. That honor goes to Tonys Teattro .I must say their chocolate desserts looked delicious, so will try those on a return visit. All in all a very pleasant experience.

I was unhappy with my main dish as It seemed quite salty to me (I'm not much into salt) and our server (Melissa) was so completely over-the-top wonderful about getting me something I would enjoy. She was incredibly helpful with everything from my change in entree to choice of wine. Atmosphere was beautiful!

I am sad the Cole St location is no more, but I understand the downtown location has expanded. I sure hope so, it was tiny. This restaurant has one of the better ambiances in town, and their wait staff is always very professional with Excellent Diction. Must be a requirement. We don't go here much, but consider it a 'special occasion' food place. People do wear jeans, but the nice ones. This is Boise, people wear jeans to the opera and the symphony. It's a little weird to me, but it's accepted. Every time, the food, service, wine have been excellent. I tend to get the 'Mediterraneo,' a fettucine dish with capers and a light, spicy sauce. I have issues trying new things, but once I tried a butternut squash risotto, and it was excellent. Desserts are basic Italian-style and some tasty seasonals, espresso is available. Edit: Tried the "Idaho" lasagne and it was disappointing. The beef was a thin layer across the bottom and had almost no seasoning, tasted like it was boiled or something. The penne layer was difficult to navigate. The tomato sauce was quite good! For dessert I tried the lime mascarpone tart, which was floury. Sad. For some reason the hub's tiramisu was missing cinnamon.

I don't even remember what I had but it was full of yummy ingredients that made it unique and tasty. I was telling my friend... this is the kind of restaurant I really respect... You can tell they're in it for more than just making money. They make their own pasta, they went all out with decor and atmosphere and they seem devoted to a good wine menu. We just had dinner there tonight. After an extremely stressful week on the job, it seemed a good time to treat ourselves. My husband ordered a spinach pasta with a smoked tomato sauce and spicy sausage and I ordered a spinach pasta with a creamy pesto basil sauce and shrimp. We both had a Caesar salad to begin the meal and it was entirely flavorless. The dressing had no acid/bite to it, it was just entirely insignificant and I didn't find it interesting enough to finish. My food was way too heavy on the garlic.I do love Italian food in many forms, but this was not worth the price. My husband was even more disappointed than I was. I have been there before as I work downtown. He made a special trip downtown from his business and it was his first time there. I don't think I'll be able to convince him to go back as there are chain restaurants close to home that serve equally as good or better Italian food. I was sad that the meal was so weak.

Took the wife to Asiagos for our 6th anniversary. Food, service, and atmosphere were all top notch. Our appetizer consisted of thinly sliced aged beef with sides of cheese, horseradish, and bread. What a way to start a dinner! Salad, Main course, and dessert left us full and happy. Top it off with a nice walk in downtown Boise and I say our night couldn't have been better.

The mozzarella on the caprese salad was the best. The lasagne special was fresh and delicious. The tenderloin special with rissoto was simply outstanding. No room for desert but capuccinnos were also very good. Definitely will return on our next trip to Boise.

I have only been to Asiago's twice but both times I had a really good experience. This may be due to the fact that I am in love with asiago cheese and they freshly grate it for you. The menu is a little pricey but the quiet dining room, polite service, and amazing food make it a great place for a romantic date.

great restaurant! small, quaint restaurant with rustic decor and patio dining. they have cute lights hanging from the ceiling and everything. the food was incredible too. had the risotto appetizer stuffed with brie cheese. -excellent. for my entree, i had the red and green pepper panzanella with grilled salmon - WOW! perfectly seasoned.. perfect amount of dressing. my husband had a spicy shrimp pasta --it was VERY spicy, but very good. we weren't planning to have dessert, but the couple next to us had something that looked really good, so we had to have some.. the tiramisu was great too. perfectly balanced, very creamy yet no alcoholly aftertaste. the bread was yummy too. service was great. would highly recommend this place, an would definitely go back if ever in boise again.

I don't quite know what to say about this place, but I feel compelled to say something. The good: The servers are friendly and it seems clean. Service is a little slow, but acceptable. The bad: The food is an absolute disappointment every time. Last time, it was severely overcooked calamari, and this time was "risotto" that was essentially Mediterranean rice pilaf. The server did offer to have it fixed or replaced, but I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes while my table was eating. If this is what they send out as risotto, then they clearly don't know how to make risotto in the first place. I don't know what it is. Absent kitchen management? Inept kitchen management? I just don't get it. Risotto and pasta are staples of an Italian restaurant, and they don't know how to prepare either. I have a feeling there's a bunch of cans of marinated artichoke hearts and cooked tomatoes that they just dump into each sad dish. I originally was going to give three stars, as there are always plenty of people there that seem to enjoy it, however I just couldn't do it. More often than not, the wine is gross as well. I don't know who the sommelier is but they must smoke too many cigarettes to have any practical use of their taste buds. As with every place I visit, I invite them to improve, but Asiago's a disappointment every time.

Met some friends there for a double dinner date (ohhhhh, alliteration) this weekend. We had been meaning to try it as a head to head against Alavita. I honestly prefer the vibe at Alavita a bit more, but the food at Asiago's is certainly equally as good and quite a bit easier on your pocketbook as compared to Alavita. Drink a couple bottles of wine as we did and that cost savings on the food front comes back to welcome you with a smile when your very reasonable check hits the table.

This place is a class act and I was surprised to see that I'd never reviewed it before. There are some seriously classic items we like to eat here, such as their funghi dish, which is mushrooms sauteed in CHAMPAGNE! So good. This time, we had the Adriatica appetizer, which is Asiago's take on kalamari. The squid was done in a polenta batter and served with some outstanding aioli. The flavor was killer. I'll make this short, for now, but this is probably one of the most legit upscale Italian eateries in my experiences in this state.

Went here with a Groupon and got 2 pasta dishes (the Mediterranean dish and the mushroom with shell pasta dish), tiramisu, and a mocha drink. We got there a little after they opened on a Sunday and the service was quick and professional. Food was spendy (to be expected) but extremely delicious! The quality and quantity of food was worth the price. Tiramisu was a pretty large portion and one of the better Tiramisu's I've had around Boise. The place was clean, well decorated, and had a good atmosphere. Only possible complaint was that the mocha was too syrupy and I couldn't taste the coffee. Overall, I will return for the delicious food!

The first time I encountered Asiago's was during an evening of aimless wandering through downtown Boise with a work colleague. We wanted to see what downtown Boise had to offer in terms of dining options and hadn't yet settled on what we wanted to eat for dinner. Basically, we were two dudes, or bros, with a case of the syndrome that usually afflicts couples who have been together a long time and who make it a chore to decide what to eat for dinner, a.k.a. "hankering-paralys-eye-tis", which usually goes something like: Person A - "What do you feel like eating tonight?" Person B - "I don't know what do YOU feel like eating?" Person A - "I could eat ANYTHING." Person B - "How does Thai sound?" Person A - "Oh, I'm not in the mood for that..." Not very manly, but sadly that's what happens when you work together for 12 hours per day in fluorescent cubicle world and know each other too well and begin to adopt the tendencies of well, a married couple. Anyhow, let me refocus. When we saw Asiago's physical space from the street we thought that this would be a cool place: restored historic building, small patio out front, and loft-like interior with plenty of exposed brick. Thankfully there wasn't a fern in sight or else this could have been an episode from Frasier. The restaurant itself is divided into three distinct dining areas, all of which are conducive to a fine evening of rehashing the events of the day. We quickly glanced at the menu and that too appealed and so we decided to try the "Italian Inspired" food. Upon entering, we did not see a well-defined greeting area and there wasn't anyone out front to offer a prompt hello. So we waited until ultimately a server came out of the kitchen and saw us looking a little lost; we were then eventually escorted to a table to begin our evening. If this were the only time that a proper and prompt welcome were not given this would not really be worth mentioning, but I have been to Asiago's several times since, and each time the initial guest touch is lacking - certainly an area which needs some attention. On to food. I picked the sautéed chicken breast entree from the Seasonal Specials which sounded really good. My bro chose the Bolzano, which was a pasta dish with a lot of fresh veg, tossed with garlic, red chili, and olive oil which was then topped with spicy Italian sausage. When our entrees were delivered I took a bite and thought the chicken was dry. Then I took another bite and confirmed my suspicions. This bird was so overcooked, or sat under the heat lamp waiting for the pasta dish to be completed, that it was inedible. I sent it back. As a replacement meal to the desiccated bird that was originally placed in front of me I asked for the same pasta dish which my friend was eating thinking that it wouldn't take long to get that pumped out of the kitchen. When the server came back to the table, he confirmed that to me that yes indeed the chicken was overdone and even the chef thought so and that my pasta would be out shortly. OK fine. Another glass of wine was ordered and delivered. My colleague was enjoying his pasta and said that it was tasty. And then the wait began, again. By the time my Bolzano arrived my friend was finished with his meal. Even though my pasta tasted good, the meal itself was not at all satisfying. The botched first entrée and the delay in getting out the second really derailed the evening since the attention was on the miscues rather than on conversation and just enjoying an night out. Given that experience one might think that I wouldn't return to Asiago's, however that is not the case. I have been to Asiago's several times and on each occasion I want it to be better than it is capable of being. Here's my advice, keep the ordering simple and don't have any expectations that you will be eating "Inspired Italian" but rather as Asiago's states "Italian Inspired" food. ____________________________________ These are the items that I would recommend: Insalata Caprese - simple preparation even though it can be overly drizzled with balsamic. Mediterranean Piadina - this is my favorite item on the menu; grilled flatbread topped with all kinds of delicious greens and feta. The hummus is a weird addition, but it is still quite good. IL Fungo Selvaggio - this is tasty pasta garlicky, mushroom pasta, although very rich, it is quite satisfying. You will be able to have lunch the next day since the portion is quite generous. Lasagna - staple on the menu but with different presentations. Generous and tasty version here at Asiago's.

First time here, It was busy for Mothers Day, and so maybe that explains why they were out of some of the basics. The eggplant caprese was bland, dry, and had a very small portion of mozzarella and no basil, disappointing since I generally love all things eggplant. We had a side of lasagne, which was dry and it tasted like it was missing a key ingredient, maybe ricotta since it wasn't creamy. They were out of table bread, so gave us sliced French, which was ok but served it with shredded cheese-odd. The Tuscan steak was a large portion, but not tender, lacked flavor, and the sauce was overpowering. The desserts were good, creme brûlée, rum cake, and cheesecake. We really liked our salads, house and enigma (chutney). The service was also good, and not hovering. I will go back and give it another try on a non-holiday.

I've eaten at Asiago's previously and been generally impressed with the food and satisfied with the service. However, my visit on September 16, 2013 started strong, but finished as a train wreck. The evening started nice as we were celebrating a friends recent engagement. We ordered a couple of appetizers, which were awesome, and ordered our entrees. After waiting for an hour the waiter told us our food would be right out. When it arrived the food was horrible! I ordered a steak, which was delivered cold with a charred carbon crust because it was burned so bad. Two orders of gnocchi had the texture of plastic and the flavor of what I imagine bath beads to taste like. All four entrees were sent back and we ended our evening at Jack-in-the-box, were the food was both better prepared and edible. I must comment that our server, I believe his name was Kenneth, was outstanding. He was understanding and apologetic. At the end he only charged us for the appetizers (which were the best part of the meal) and drinks. We didn't pay for the un edible entrees, and he gave each couple a $30 gift certificate for a future visit.

Awesome Italian bread and alfredo. Located in downtown Boise and once you enter it has a really cozy feel to it and they live up to their Italian expectations. Not only are you able to enjoy and meal there they also have a full bar so you can have a nice environment to drink instead of going to the thick of downtown and dealing with a lot of foot traffic and noise. Recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a American Italian cuisine.

Asiago offers nouveau italian fare at reasonable prices. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and prompt. For the appetizer, I had the Monopoli which had greek influences including hummus and baba ghanoush. For dinner, the vitello caprese had a lemon vermouth reduction which particularly liked. It concluded with a creme brulee, a very french dessert, well executed none the less.

Just ok. Had the Steak special and substituted pasta for the potatoes. Paid an extra $7 for 2 shrimp that were supposed to taste like Ginger/Lime. They were flavorless. Steak was just ok and being Italian, I wanted to taste their basic red sauce. The red sauce will say everything and sad to say, it was less than average. I've only been here once so I decided to try the most expensive meal they had and I won't be going back. Restaurant is loud, and as a lot of restaurants downtown, parking wasn't good. Not fun walking on a cold winter night.

I really don't know how to rate this place. We went to lunch and it was a 10 star. Everything was better than perfect. We had the bruschetta to start. The toast was fantastic and the tomato mixture was perfect. Then the salad, that was enjoyable. The main dishes were the lasagna which has to be the best one we ever had. Then we brought our friend later that week for dinner. After we raved how good it was, we were quickly brought down to earth. We started with the bruschetta and it looked the same but the bread were so soggy it made it a sad disappointment. As for our main dishes, not one of the four we would ever re-order. My spinach fettuccine was over cooked and I hardly touch it. My friends were not to happy with their selections. They too just picked at their food. As for the service, it was not at all busy but lets just say it was a long long long night with food that did not make up for it. I would love to re-live my first visit because it was as if we were in food heaven. After talking to Boise residents, they say this place is know for not being consistent.

I made a reservation via opentable.com for an early dinner. We arrived at the restaurant and were told that we didn't have a reservation and could only sit outside. At the time, there were probably three tables occupied in the entire restaurant. I was pregnant and had an obvious bump and it was a very hot evening. I share this not because I expect the world to cater to me because I'm pregnant, but I would imagine if the maitre'd was going to be kind to anyone, it would be to a pregnant person. The sun was shining on the tables, but we opted to sit outside, which was extremely uncomfortable. Our server was polite, but it was too hot to have an enjoyable meal. The food was no better than decent - not really worth the cost or the discomfort or the snottiness. By the time we left, the restaurant was only about half full, so we easily could have been seated inside. Oh, and because it was so hot, we brought our check inside to pay rather than waiting at the table and stood waiting for someone to take our money for another 15 minutes before we could leave. It was overall a totally negative experience and we'll never dine here again.

Not a good experience. At all. Everything was just off. I had their version of sort of a lamb parmesan, it was so tough I could not even cut it with a fork and knife, the pasta was extremely bland, and our server reminded our table twice that his tip was not included in the price of our ticket. Will not be back. That being said, for a Monday night they were extremely busy, so maybe Boise residents are seeing something I am not. * side note, I know in Italy they cook their food with a lot less flavors than here in the US. I have been to Italy and love their food. Secondly, we only had a party of five, not six. At six people they add gratuity on automatically. There was no need to remind our table twice about the tip, it was insulting.

Asiago's on Cole Rd was my favorite restaurant when it was open. Great food, charming atmosphere and cheerful staff. Plus being able to watch one of the chefs from your table was pretty nifty. The downtown location is pretty nice, as well, but doesn't seem to have the same boisterous environment. It's more dim and personal, rather than bright and family like. It's been several years between visits to the downtown location, but the draw for me seems to have diminished on each return visit. The staff, though pleasant and friendly, seemed to go through the motions, quickly running tables here and there. The food itself, with smaller portions, seemed to have grown even more bland than the previous visit. On our most recent visit, the Cinque Formagge was nice, but a bit generic and a little too soft. The chicken lasagna's chicken was dry and overcooked, which made for an extremely dense and chewy dish. However, they had a new pizza appetizer, with fennel turkey, that was amazing and was the highlight of our meal. Pricing is pretty average for the food and service and it's still a nice treat from time to time, but it just doesn't seem to be the same as it was.

For a 20 top, the staff performed well. I believe all of my colleagues enjoyed their meals, as did I (the spaghetti was delicious). Everything went as expected as to restaurant standards, as far as I can tell. The prices were fair, good for a date, I suppose. If I only like Italian food as much as I like a cheeseburger then I think I would rate Asiago's a higher rating. Other comments about the bread are correct. The hors de vors and desserts are also worth the extra money. Yummmmy!

I went here feeling a bit of relief that there was an Italian place in downtown Boise that wasn't run by a pompous guy with a mustache (you may know the man I'm talking about) and expected big things judging by the prices on the menu and the amazing smells in the air. With the exception of the bread I found it to be mediocre. The service was great, so no complaints there, but the food was kind of bland and definitely not the type of Italian food to which I've grown accustomed. I expect Italian to be simple flavors, well executed. Everything seemed highly seasoned to the point where I thought it was covering up the flavors of the ingredients and I didn't see much in the way of genuine Italian rather than Italian-American on the menu. It is possible I ordered the wrong dish (some sort of pasta with chicken) and it's possible that this just isn't the type of Italian food I grew up eating. Maybe I will come back for another round since others seem to like it so much and, when I do, I hope to be able to improve my rating.

Good atmosphere. Great food. Friendly staff. A bit pricey, and lacks any padded seats or booths, but otherwise a fantastic Italian place to eat in downtown Boise. Ambience is Casual and Classy - not overly romantic or intimate.

My husband and I walked into the restaurant at 5:40 pm on a Sunday and stood there in the entryway for a few minutes before we were acknowledged and asked if we had a reservation, we said no so then we were offered to sit at the "bar" which was really a counter by the cash register by the door, we declined and were told we couldn't get seated without a reservation even when there were many empty tables, they didn't even offer to let us wait for anytime to get us in it was really awkward and we left there never to return again because no food is good enough to be treated like that.

I make at lease one visit here every time I am in Boise. Very good food, and some unique menu items, which won't find at your average Italian restaurant. The food is prepared fresh, and you can tell they use quality ingredients. Then, you have to see their wine selection. Hard to find a bad one on the list.

Our food was most enjoyable. My wife and I shared a salad which was fresh and delicious. Her spinach pasta entree brought rave reviews and my pasta shells in olive oil with mushrooms and garlic was delicious. Our waitress suggested a modest-priced wine which was excellent. The atmosphere is lively but not loud and the dinner variety is sure to offer something for everybody. Oh, and the dessert. Ancho chili chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Yummy. I would recommend Asiago's to anybody that likes good food with an Italian theme.

Really good homemade Italian dinner! The bread is some of the best I've had. Service was excellent. I had a special lasagna which was just as good the next day. My daughter had gorgonzola gnocchi which was very different but good. I had a great glass of wine too. It has an upscale feel, but it's a casual environment.

Warm, comfortable atmosphere, some good wines and once in a blue moon-- great service. Food quality ranges from great to meh. When compared to similarly priced restaurants in other metropolitan areas the quality of the entrees earns about 3 stars; bread=3 stars; near frozen salad=2 stars; service=keep reading... On first visit, the service was excellent by any standard. Our server Ray was extraordinarily informative, friendly and attentive. On second visit, the service was unacceptably poor--we sat at the table for about 15 minutes without being greeted once by our server. She walked by our table at least 8 or 9 times and looked at us, but never said a single word. Never asked if we want wine or anything else to drink, did not ask if we wanted appetizers or salad, never went over the specials, nothing... Service throughout the rest of the meal was mediocre at best--never asked us if we wanted more wine, water refills came very sparingly, server had a cold and slightly unpleasant demeanor throughout the meal. And this was during an only moderately busy weeknight. 3rd visit was somewhere in between. Server was friendly and informative, but again, very slow to greet our table and only moderately attentive at best. For the third visit in a row, our salads were served nearly frozen. The Italian Asiago's serves is in the top half of what you'll find in Boise. But barely. And there's not much competition. And, unfortunately, the service is in the bottom half of any restaurant in town. For the price range, the service is unacceptably poor and the food is too hit or miss to say it's a good value. We won't ever return unless it's with friends who want to dine at Asiago's.

Dark arugala salad. Amazing shrimp. Bitter bread with super sweet balsamic. Perfect spicy sausage Sillano. And chocolate diablo for dessert. Oh baby! Was a bigger fan at first... second and third visits brought overcooked pasta. Still great atmosphere.
