Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I've never had a bad meal here! This is a good example of a great small-town Mexican place with fantastic food. When I have gone in the past the crowd has usually been pretty light, but there are plenty of tables with more than enough room for the days that it is full. Service is quick and friendly. The environment is a little lacking and weird, as the restaurant uses two older buildings that are next to each other, and there is a lot of empty space, making it feel super open. Overall a pretty good place to eat if you're craving Mexican food.

Coming from California, my expectations were pretty low, but this was the worst Mexican I have had. The chile relleno was basically half a pepper with taco meat and cheese. The margarita was so weak I had to order another shot of tequila. Even if you are desperate, don't do it.

Had a great mid day meal here after visiting the John Wayne museum. Very nice waiter and fast service! Mom had the nachitos which were crispy and nicely browned with a tasty and creamy melted cheese and a single cheese enchilada which she said was delicious. I had the chilaquiles, I substituted chorizo for the chicken and REALLY enjoyed them, they were so flavorful! Sadly since we are on a road trip, I couldn't take the leftovers home. It was a large plate with rice and I just couldn't finish it all no matter how hard I tried. I recommend giving this nice find a try if you're passing through this cute town!

Let me start with a disclaimer that it was so unbelievably HOT in here that it probably skewed my opinion of the food. The 120* degree temperature made it impossible to enjoy the experience. That being said, the food was 'ok'. Nothing more nothing less. The salsa was good but the cheese dip was runny. It had no flavor either. I think they added water to make it stretch further. :( I ordered a chicken quesadilla but got beef. :( I ordered a 16 oz margarita but it came in the worlds smallest glass but still cost me $6. :( The final straw for me was a $42 bill for a family of three that received mediocre food at best. We won't be coming back. :(

I and the group I was with highly disliked this place; A) some waiters do not understand what you are wanting or saying. B) food was okay for what it is. --I asked for a large bowl of cheese dip for my meal, and I emphasized the big bowl part but what I receive is a small bowl of it kind of the size they put the salsa in(okay not the best;has a spice to it).

Came to this little town of Winterset to see John Wayne's birthplace and the bonus for the stop was this restaurant!! Nachitos were so addicting that the half of order I was going to take for later disappeared! The cheese enchilada was excellent and my daughter's dish was amazing. Our server was efficient and thoughtful! An overall five star experience.

Can't go wrong here. Good Mexican food for a small town restaurant. Salsa and pico are excellent.

Pretty solid grub here. My wife and I went for lunch on a Saturday and there were only 4 other people in the restaurant. I was thrilled to see that they had Al Pastor on the menu. The chips and salsa were pretty generic, but the staff was friendly and not climbing on top of us despite not having anything else to do. My Al Pastor tacos were pretty delicious, and my wife chimi was about average. You could do a lot worse in a little town like Winterset.
