7/10 the burrito here is outstanding. 3/10 they are leaky and poorly wrapped. They just got sofritas and that really upped Chipotle's game. The guac is consistent here and I really have no complaints when the wrap doesn't fall apart and make a mess all over me. I've had a few issues with them mismarking the names in pick ups - which is a big issue because I'm vegan and my husband is not. They fixed the issue no problem though the next time. The burrito bowl is a viable option and then you don't have to worry about bad wraps. Best mall food around and my favorite fast food.

This may be a biased review because Chipotle is my favorite burrito restaurant of all time. No other establishment comes close to their burrito quality. I have had Pancheros, Qdoba, Fighting Burrito, etc and they are not as satisfying to me as Chipotle. I first had Chipotle in college and have always went back ever since. Their guac is amazing and the competition can't even compare in quality. The staff at this location is friendly and it is never too busy here, especially for being inside the mall. I eat at this location all the time and will continue to!

I really would like to be able to review this restaurant, but I was unable to eat here. I showed up with my wife and two kids about 2PM on a Sunday, and there was nowhere to sit. This location is in a mall which is its first downfall. We went to the bathroom and walked around a few minutes, but still there was nowhere for the 4 of us to sit and the tables out in the food court were filthy. We opted simply to leave and go find food elsewhere. What a joke of a Chipotle.

I am happy to see a Chipotle here. I had the burrito with barbacoa and the usual toppings. Very reasonable price for the size. I love the toppings and everything is fresh. I wish there was a Chipotle were I lived, but probably not or I would never leave. This location needs more seating. There is some seating in the restaurant, small area, some in the mall, and some outside. This place can be very busy and not having a place to sit is a real issue.

I'm writing this review just so people have the heads up ahead of time. This location gives out pretty small portions. If you are in the area and have the extra time I recommend just driving the couple minutes over to the Merle Hay location they give out good sized portions. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because Chipotle is so darn good.

Drove through IA on the way from Chicago to Denver and stopped here for lunch. It was the first time I'd set foot in a real indoor mall in decades, but Chipotle didn't disappoint. Outstanding food as usual, but extra friendly staff.

I had been to one in Seattle, so I went to this one. Again, GREAT food, apparently they use non hormonal fed meat or whatever. Applaud that! I ordered chicken tacos, they let me have "mixed" tortillas, two crisp and one flour, no extra charge. The cilantro lime rice they have is TO DIE FOR! I've had it with the white rice, this time I used the whole grain rice, was good, but not as good as the white rice version. This was located inside Valley West Mall. I took a cab here, so I don't really remember if access by RV's would work. I'm thinking.... might be dicey as turning INTO the mall is a bit tight. But I don't really remember.

I love Chipolte and for now this is the only location in the Des Moines area (a new one is opening up in the Jordan Creek area soon). My food is always fresh - I always get the same thing: Chicken buritto bowl with brown rice, mild salsa, sour cream, and cheese PLUS chips and guac. The guac is always super fresh and awesome! There is always a line but I feel it moves pretty quick. And they have a great online service where you can order and pay ahead of time and just go to a seperate window to pick up your food. We use that a lot! The only down point is the cost...I feel it is a little pricey. But I love it so I will continue to keep going back!

I might be the biggest Chipotle addict in the Midwest. Without exaggerating, I eat Chipotle 1-2 times a day, and have been to a multitude of Chipotle's around the country. This is by far the worst managed Chipotle I have ever been to. Since moving to Des Moines I have religiously eaten at this Chipotle every day until yesterday. The manager has NO idea how to manage a restaurant. He does NOT understand the value of customer satisfaction and employee contentment, instead is too caught up on the mere cost of ingredients. I've witnessed the manager screaming at employees (in front of customers) for putting more rice than he sees acceptable in a burrito. Is the cost of an extra 1/4 scoop of rice really worth portraying that image to the customer? Common sense management understands the importance of maintaining your employees happy and portraying a feeling of "value" to the customer. When I walk in the door and the manager is present, a feeling of hostility and anxiousness by the employees is felt, conversely, when he is NOT there, the restaurant feels much more relaxed and upbeat. In the many times I have eaten there, I have noticed more than once the manager disciplining the employees in the seating area of the restaurant. Once more, common sense management sees the wrongfulness with this is. Disciplining should be done away from the consumer. There is a reason of why this location constantly cycles through employees! Poor management! The last straw that lead me to write this review was based on the experience I had with the manager yesterday. The manager was working the cash register, when I went to pay for my miniature burrito bowl to go (top cover was on), the employee told him it was a chicken bowl with extra chicken, to which I said, "yeah chicken, extra chicken." Then the manager said: No guac? So I said, yeah, NO guac. Then he did the following: he touched the top of the bowl inspecting it, and then PROCEEDED TO OPEN TO CONFIRM THERE WAS NO GUAC THERE. One: he assumed I was lying, trying to get away without paying for guac. Two: Showed no trust with his employees by also not believing them. I found this unbelievable! Between my family and I, we spend at least $150 a week at chipotle, that's $7,200 a year, for him to make me feel like a liar. That's how you lose loyal customers. I believe the reason this location may do well is because it's Chipotle, and as poor as the management may be, you can't change that, and because there are only 2 Chipotle's in Des Moines. Hopefully someone from corporate will read this and do something about it. Until then, I will be eating at Qdoba.

Everyone knows Chipotle is a damn zoo at lunch time!!! However this location has got to be one of the slowest that I have ever been too!!!! Yesterday when I arrived around 1:00 PM the line was at the door. Mind you they had the food line fully staffed within 5 min the line was almost entering into Jimmy John's (on the other side of the mall)!! I watched a few people give up and leave because the line was moving sooooooooooo sloow! All in all once I finally got my food things were normal as per expected but they really need to step up the motivation of the employees here as they just move at a snails pace which is frustrating at best!!!

Where can you get a fast burrito that is a meal itself? Chipotle! When you first approach the counter you get to choose the container your food comes in, whether burrito, bowl, taco, etc... I fully recommend the quesorito from the "secret menu." It takes a minute longer, but is well worth it as they take a shell, make essentially a quesadilla and then put your fillings inside it like a burrito. Once you have your container you choose your rice, beans, protein, sauces and toppings. You could add a side of chips, but you probably won't have room for them. Everyone here has been nice on the two occasions I have been here this month. Early in January they had a national promotion where if you get the new soy (which they are calling sofritas) you would get a free second burrito later in the month. Avoid the sofritas! They were a bad texture that they tried to fry, which made them hard to eat on the inside and outside...think pencil erasers. If you're a vegan, just pick the beans and rice with no sofritas and save yourself. The chain has also been out of pork lately due to not being able to find some pork providers which are supposedly up to their standards. We happen to be in Iowa, which is dense with pork providers of every type of standard but vegetarian. This is a poor excuse and completely unbelievable. Fortunately the beef and chicken options are great and provide a tasty protein for your huge burrito. You can order online and pick it up on their side kitchen door to avoid the line entirely, which is great for a quick lunch!

I could eat here everyday! I love my steak Burrito! Staff is always welcoming! Speed of service is awesome!! I've come here at lunch with the line out in the mall going out the mall entrance & have never felt like I was gonna be there all day! I can honestly say I've probably never waited longer then 10min but then again maybe the time doesn't matter cause I'm about to enjoy a awesome Burrito!!! Me and my co-workers have a saying "Chipotle Friday" I might even try to sneak a few other days of the week in as well!! Only negative "seating"

Super friendly staff here! The food is good and as I said, the staff are in general, upbeat and very friendly. Chipolte's veggie burrito bowl is amazing...plus that thick and creamy and FREE, yes, I said FREE guacamole (free on the veggie bowl only!) is tough to beat. Their meat varieties are pretty awesome too. Barbacoa anyone? Chipolte is my favorite genre of restaurant - quick & casual, but not greasy "fast food" that makes you feel like dying an hour later.

LOVE Chipotle! This is Des Moines' first location (the other location is at the intersection of Merle Hay Road & Douglas Ave., in between AT&T and Aspen Dental), and the decor inside (though it's a fast casual chain restaurant) is very nice! I find myself eating here once every two weeks. My favorite is the grilled chicken burrito, extra brown rice, no beans. I think the employees at this Chipotle tend to be better dressed than the newer one at MHR & Douglas, but that doesn't affect the food at all (I just don't think you should wear jeans with chains on them to work). I cannot WAIT for Chipotle to open in Ames! Keep doing what you're doing!

Food has taken a nose dive. Had beef bowl. Beef all fat and gristle. Terrible.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
