I had my last dinner in the Lakes District at Kazarelli's before flying back to NYC the next day. My friend took me out to eat here and she had good things to say about the food here, so I was excited about getting to dine here. The restaurant has a bit of a nautical theme in terms of its decor, but also veered a bit on the Italian side with their checkered tablecloths and all. Lots of large screen TVs also to watch the game as you eat and/or drink. I don't think there's any way I can say this without sounding like a pretentious snob, but there was something charming about how this place veered a bit to the fine dining side while still maintaining a home-y/sports bar atmosphere. My friend and I shared their bruschetta appetizer to start, which was tasty. I got their spaghetti and meatballs, sans the meatballs since I'm a vegetarian, and it was not bad. It might not have been the absolute best bowl of pasta I've ever had, but again, not trying to sound snooty, there was something earnest about my food: it tasted like something I would have eaten if I were to go to a friend's parents' home and they had cooked for me. So, why a 4 star review? The service. I found it to be extremely friendly (though, I've noticed in general, the midwest certainly is a LOT friendlier than in NYC) and accommodating. Overall, I had a lovely dining experience here. It made me think of Cheers (the TV show, not the actual overpriced tourist trap in Boston) and how this restaurant seemed to be a quainter embodiment of the bar within the show.

For us, it's about the fish fry - all you can eat. On our recent visit the walleye was eye-closing delish. A decent entree. Swai quality has varied. Echo'ing other comments the service was, this time, extremely slow. We were there for dinner for 2 hours; longer than we wanted. And it's pretty clear that the all-you-can-eat is a squeaky-wheel kinda deal - ask, and you shall receive 1 or 2 more bites. Regardless, we're fans (of the fish fry), we enjoy boating to the Kazarelli's dock and making an event of it, and will be back for more.

We were out on a bike ride without water (idiots!!) and stopped in for water. The machine out front didn't take cards but the owner took pity on us and opened it up himself and just gave us two. Based on this we were instant fans and this returned for drinks and appetizers the next day. The Moscow Mule is amazing (just watch yourself, they sneak up on you) and the Thai chicken wings and homemade potato chips were awesome!! Seriously get the wings! I took off a star only because of lack of patio---it is lake country, come on now.

We tried this place on a whim but I'd recommend it to anyone! The food was absolutely amazing and fresh. I got spaghetti and my boyfriend got a hamburger. The service was fairly quick for such a small town (I'm from Arizona and used to things being very fast). The food tasted like it was all cooked to order rather than sitting in the back like other places out here.

Took the family here as i had heard really good things about the place. Extremely disappointed as the food was so so & was way over priced. VERY VERY few options as the menu was very small. Also left still hungry as the meal matched the menu SMALL.

This restaurant was a very confusing experience. My partner and I were in town for Labor Day weekend, and this was one of few locations that advertised gluten-free options available. The decor seems to want to be Italian, but the menu is all over the place. We went on a Saturday night, without a reservation, and were asked to wait for a table, even though the restaurant was less than half full. There were a number of employees bustling around, but there only seemed to be two wait staff and a bartender actively serving people aside from the hostess seating people. After being seated, it took half an hour to get water. We were asked if we wanted drinks, so we ordered (a Moscow mule and diet cola,) and waited. And waited. He came back, asked if we were interested in apps, and when we said no, before we could say we were ready to order, the waiter said "okay," and walked away. Another half-hour wait, and he came back. He gave us the drinks, and when I asked a question about a menu item, he walked away to find the answer before we could finish ordering -- it was like he could only handle one task at a time. We weren't in any particular hurry, but this was brutal. Then my partner tasted his Moscow mule. These are ginger beer, vodka, bitters, and lime. His was Club soda (or tonic water,) vodka, and lemon. We notified the waiter, and he defended the bartender, but finally went to ask her (again, not taking our dinner order, nor answering my menu question.) Got a new drink. Could finally taste the lime, but barely any ginger. Figured it was probably made with ginger ale instead of ginger beer; there was so much vodka in it, you could barely taste anything else. We're almost 90 minutes in at this point, and starving. Ordered the prime rib. Waited some more. And some more. It's gotten a bit busy at this point, and there are clearly only two waitstaff serving three large rooms, so we're cutting them some serious slack. (But honestly, it's Labor Day weekend in a tourist town. Staff your restaurant accordingly!) Prime rib showed up. It was delicious. Cooked a perfect medium-rare with horseradish shavings on top. Side of garlic potatoes and roasted veggies. Very much worth the price (even given the tourist town mark-up.) Another half hour to flag down our waiter to get our check, and another to get my credit card back so we could get out of there, boggling at the bizarre experience we'd just had. The cherry on top? That Moscow mule was NINE DOLLARS.

When we first walked in, damp and musty smell hit us. It's also very dark inside. Furnishings were old and sad. The wait staff were very pleasant. We ordered the Kazarelli's Potato Chips appetizer--a giant bowl, and they mean giant!, of fresh made chips. Many handmade chips are too thick for my tastes. These are much thinner, had nice, light seasoning, and had a great Zesty sour cream dip (maybe with horseradish in it?) We split our entree--Lakeside Avenue Chicken Sandwich. It was a nice piece of grilled chicken breast. bacon, spicy mayo, and cheese on a ciabatta roll. Good flavored bacon and cheese. The spicy mayo had quite a kick. There was also too much on the sandwich, We wanted to wipe some of it off. This was served with french fries. They were really good and I think they had the same seasoning as the chips. Better than your average french fries.

Went here to celebrate our anniversary. My husbands lasagna was awesome. I had the chicken parm was not impressed tasted bland to me like something I could have made my self at home. We also had the rose moscato wine and it was pretty gross. We would go back I would just order something else.

We went on a Friday night. The wait staff told us multiple times that they were busy. The server was nice and attentive, but the speed of the food was incredibly slow. The food was good quality.

The best meal we have had in a very long time! The atmosphere, the service and the food were all amazing! Dinner will cost you a little more but well worth it!

Excellent, attentive service and very good entrées. Although we love Italian food, we rarely eat it out because most places are just mediocre. Here, the lasagna was very meaty and flavorful. The sauce tasted as though it had simmered all day. We also had an alfredo dish. It was extremely buttery and they spiced it up nicely, upon my request. The soup, salad and bread were all fresh and yummy, too.

WORST Iowa Great Lakes dining experience EVER and we have been going up to Okoboji every summer for 8 years (and my parents have been going for 20). From the hour-long wait for our food, to the fact that the "Old Fashioned Spaghetti & Meatballs" was noodles and marinara sauce (not a smidge of meat ANYWHERE) to the fact that a black bug crawled out of my husband's order of lasagne (which somehow was a HALF order, not a dinner order, no explanation given, but dinner price was charged to us) to the rude and unprofessional manner of the "manager" on duty (was refusing to comp us the price of the spaghetti which was barely touched, due to the absence of meatballs), we will never, ever darken their door again. There are too many other great restaurants at the lakes, we won't mind scratching this one off our list (it was our first visit, DEFINITELY was our LAST).

During the "Christmas Snowpocalypse of '09" I joined my girlfriend's family for dinner at Kazarelli's in Spirit Lake. Due to the weather, we were the only patrons in the restaurant, and the only staff left was the chef / owner. He was incredibly friendly (he knows her parents), and chatted with us while answering food-related questions as we perused the menu. I was pleased even before the meal as the restaurant has a wonderful backwoods, small-town ambiance and feel to it. Our food was superb, and a great value for the price. I ordered the walleye dinner, and the girlfriend ordered the steak. I should say that I am obsessed with walleye, and order it whenever possible. This is still the best walleye I have ever had. After trying her steak, I feel safe in saying that it was cooked just as perfectly as my meal. I can't wait to come back on the next visit!

Good Lakes restaurant with some classic Italian items on the menu like lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs. However, there are also some interesting items like walleye cooked one of 3 ways, seafood cannelloni, and chicken carbonara. The food came out HOT, service was accommodating for our table of 5 and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, even for 4th of July weekend, and sitting in the bar area! We will make Kazarelli's a regular stop in future trips to the lake.

Last night was my second time here for dinner. Both experiences were wonderful the Kobe lasagna was great. The flat bread appetizer was superb. My only criticism is the beer selection. No tap beer. Small list of bottled beer and they were out of my first.choice :(
