High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. First time here and I love it. Being from L. A., I was having a hard time finding a good Japanese place and I think I found it here. The service is great and the food is very good, not THE best I have ever had, but very good! Nice selection and I like the atmosphere, kinda dark and romantic with some good beat music :) I will definitely return. And for the record! I think the person that gave this pace a one star is a food snob, telling people they don't know good Japanese food, how rude and wrong.

They have great daily specials on food and drinks. Service is kinda slow...I've been to a lot of sushi places and we didn't order anything out of the ordinary and they weren't slammed busy or anything. It took nearly 45 minutes to get our rolls. They were very good but I will be sure to only go when I have pleeeenty of time to wait. I had the Samurai Sunset mixed drink. It was pretty good but I didn't taste any alcohol and for $7 I should taste something.

Sushi is alright, not the best in the the Des Moines area but they are close to my house.

The sushi is delicious and their daily specials are great. Monday night's BOGO hibachi and 30% off sushi, is hands down the best thing in town! Very entertaining experience and great great food! Repeat customers from this family

Not sure why I keep coming back. Maybe I just get amnesia but every time I come into Appare, there is never enough people on staff. Today, there was 1 server for 8 tables. Not kidding, I counted. There are 3 sushi chiefs and 1 hibachi cook. Good thing we didn't choose that, they waited atleast the 30 minutes we did before a guy came out. Food is okay, but not worth the terrible service. Seriously, hire some servers.

For Iowa, or anywhere in the mid-west, this is as good as it gets when it comes to sushi. I have had so many bad sushi in everywhere, so when my friend's boyfriend took me and my husband here, we were happy to finally taste some decent sushi. I have to say the service there was just okay. There was one time a young male Asian waiter made remark on how much sushi we ordered. I haven't seen him working there for a long time. So of course this is not your best sushi. You know they didn't just catch their seafood that morning. I still say that their sushi are fresh tasting, and the rice was done right. I also like their tempura, but how can anyone mess up a deep fried dish?

i would give it five stars if it didn't take a half an hour to get our rolls when we were 1 of 2 tables in the entire place. otherwise--the rolls i had were great, fresh, and great presentation. the server was quick to re-fill drinks without us having to ask, very friendly and polite. the ambiance was great, big booths, low lighting, the AC worked great (we were freezing, haha). we went for lunch but i would love to go back for dinner. they have a separate bar area and hibachi grills in the back, separate from the sushi bar and booths/tables. will definitely be going back.

Drinks were the only thing I liked when I went there. The steak tasted like it was old and had been sitting out. Fried rice was too hard. They need to be more organized when there is a big party. When it was time to pay, it was a big mess.

Racism is alive and well at Appare! Went here this evening with my Indian boyfriend and we were seated at the hibachi grill. The wait once we were seated was a bit lengthy but the attitude of the server was disgraceful. He was notably the only white employee and he came up to us and seemed cranky off the bat. We ordered drinks and when he ID'd us I realized I'd left mine in the car so I told him never mind about the drink since we parked a ways away and there's a windchill advisory. He was looking at my man's Indian license and he looked up with an irritated look on his face and said "this is America, don't you have American or a state ID?" My boyfriend calmly replied "no, because I'm not American". He continued to insist that he's in America and should have American ID or an American passport. Eventually, after he'd insulted my kind man some more he said hold on, let me ask if we can accept this. He came back with even more attitude and laughingly told us he couldn't bring us a drink "since he doesn't have American ID and you don't want to go to your car" in the snidest tone I have ever heard. When I got angry at him for laughing in our faces and treating us like we were garbage and told him what he's doing is unkind and uncalled for and we were leaving he laughed so loudly AT us that the family at the next table stopped their conversation and looked concerned. We didn't end up eating here and never will now. I told the hostess who seemed to find it funny... maybe she thinks I'm overreacting to be offended by blatant racism aimed at the nicest man I've ever known or maybe she and the waiter talk crap about all their patrons. Either way, only way I'm eating here is if I hear that ignorant, hateful excuse for a human being was fired. I'll be sure to tell all my friends about this experience, as well.

My husband and I came here for lunch and the service was terrible. There were only 4 people in the restaurant including us and it took our sever a ridiculous amount of time to get us water and take our order. Our server seemed like he was still recovering from a night of drinking and possibly still drunk from the way he spilled my water and miso soup. For a $50 lunch our food was not so great, my other half even commented that we should have grabbed some fast food and would have been more satisfied with the food and service. I really hope that our 20% tip was shared with the staff behind the scenes because those were the only people we were being considerate about.

I visited Appare on a Tuesday night. There was not many others there, so we had no wait. We had the Hibachi, which I was leery of as I've had hibachi before and wasn't that impressed. Our chef (is that what you call the guy who makes the food and does tricks?) came out and introduced himself as Francisco, and asked if we had ever seen a Mexican working at an Asian place, so right away he was funny. Despite there only being two of us there, he put on a great show--and I have to say, the rice and the vegetables he prepared were the best I have ever had at any hibachi place, including Ohana, Taki, and Samurai. Our service was great and the food was excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Well last night 7-22-2013 was literally the worst experience I have had at any restaurant in history. Appare used to be a place that I stopped on every trip to Johnston and now that I live in Des Moines I decided to take a trip their with some friends. So let's step back to all of my previous trips: I would have given this place a 4 star rating for price, quality, and service. The food was always adequate the prices are fair, and the servers and chefs were attentive and entertaining. Now back to the present: Last night I showed up at 8:30pm and asked for a seat with 2 other friends at the Hibachi grill. I was told it could be up to 45 minutes which I was fine with, then the hostess tells me they can actually seat us sooner 8:50pm. We get to the table have the server take orders for apps and drinks. I am then informed that my appetizer is not available tonight... I ask what that means and he says, "it's not available" I ask like it's all gone? "No just not available", again what does that mean? All I asked for was a sushi sampler. Well I settle for tempura breaded sweet potatoes. Those arrive ~ 9:10pm not a horribly long wait but not quick Then the waiting begins... 9:15 another group arrives. 9:25 a chef comes out saying he will be right with us 9:30 the other group goes to the bar 9:40 server asks if we need anything..."A chef?" I asked. 9:50 one of my parties members leaves 10:00 a different chef comes out and we are notified that the other group that arrived later requested him specially they are obviously friends or something as will be apparent by the shitty performance he put on. 10:10 We are informed that chicken is not available because it has gone bad... 10:15 I think cooking begins and we order another bottle of sake 10:30 server returns telling us the sake is sold out... so we pick another bottle of more expensive shitty flavored sake (no discount given) 10:35 My friend is served his salmon with about 2 mm of cooking and the rest completely raw in the center. 10:50 the meal ends. Now the entire time this chef did none of the hibachi bs which to me is fine but my one remaining friend was incredibly disappointed he didn't do any egg tricks or whatever. So if you calculate that out I spent over 2 hours their and was told multiple times items were unavailable, we were served incredibly poorly and forgotten multiple times by the server as is noted in 20 minutes between ordering sake and being told it's not available. Finally the under-cooked food was really the last straw, all this and nothing was done to the check to reflect this obvious poor treatment.

It was a completely empty restaurant when we arrived and we had to wait TEN minutes for someone to acknowledge us. We tried to stop a waiter and he pointed at the "hostess will seat you" sign and walked away. Needless to say, I got food poisoning from this restaurant. Nothing was fresh. My friend also got food poisoning the same week. Do not go here!!!!

We took the family out for dinner. I can't say enough about this place. The food was excellent and the service was even better. There was so much room and you didn't feel cramped like some other hibachi/sushi places. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Unacceptable. Myself and two friends walked in at 7PM on New Year's Eve and there was no wait. I found that kind of surprising myself, but it was refreshing not to have to sit and wait a long time. A girl in my party asked the waitress if the martinis were on the drink specials. We were told yes. After we had ordered, we were told "Oh, by they way, since its New Year's Eve, they're not". I had already gotten my martini and sipped it so I couldn't cancel the order. When it came time to get the bills, my itemized copy was correct. However, when the waitress rang my order up, she deducted $5 off my bill and added $15 on to one of my friend's bills. To "fix" this, they rang everyone's card again, swiping another $30 out of my account. No attempt at an apology was made--I thought perhaps they might take off the salad or something to account for the extended wait we had in finalizing our bills (We checked into the restaurant at 7:08 PM; we didn't leave until 8:55 PM). Nothing was done to compensate for our time, nor did a manager appear at our table to apologize for the inconvenience. I then asked for a copy of the void receipt and was told they didn't have one. So I'm out the money to perhaps have it voided, with no proof that I didn't spend that amount of money. Solely for this, I would not recommend this restaurant to others.

Came in around 7 on a Tuesday night. I was nervous about it's 'strip mall' location, but to my surprise, when I walked in it was much larger than I imagined and beautiful! The place was slow (given the time of the week) and being I came solo I sat at the bar, they also have a sushi bar available to sit at too!. I was greated and had great service being the only one in the bar. The waiter/bartender gave me control of the remote and was the perfect balance of friendly/space giving. I had the SOS Roll on Chef Joes specialty list...it was amazing. 10/10 would recommend for those skeptical of the raw fish thing. Also had the kinng crab roll, also fabulous....but I'd get double SOS next time! Too bad I don't live here or I'd come more often!

Decent atmosphere, nice waitstaff, and good tasting food. But the reason I won't be going back to this restaurant is because it is outrageously expensive for the portions you get. I'm not even picky about the size of meals I receive, but really, $6 for TWO pieces of sushi. That is beyond ridiculous. And $15 for a specialty roll that isn't that special. My husband and I are used to paying a little bit more for good specialty rolls but we bought two different specialty rolls for $15 each and they had maybe 5 pieces. And the single rolls like spicy tuna or yellowtail are literally $6 for two pieces. Needless to say we won't be going back.

This was my favorite sushi place for a while. It's a large place, so you hardly ever have to wait for a table. Nice, dim atmosphere. The sushi is excellent and a good deal (the Love Boat is a ton of sushi for the price), and the service is fairly friendly, but can be slow. I like that they have the hibachi in the back room, completely seperated, so you're not smelling grease while you eat fresh nigiri and rolls.

Don't be decieved by the front strip mall facade. Hidden next to huge pizza joint this place can go unnoticed. Once you get in the doors, you are greeted by a big koi pond in the corner and a fake tree where you wait to be seated. There is a separate bar area, main dining tables, large sushi bar, and separate hibachi room with several table/stations. I only had two gripes. First they were under staffed when we went and took awhile to get seated and served. Otherwise, fresh ingredients, large menu of options and combos all at reasonable prices. My second gripe would be that, we ordered a sushi combo to share at the sushi bar and enjoyed it. We saw them make and serve a huge volcano roll, really plated nicely, and served to the couple next to us. So figured, we'd try it too. Took awhile, since backed up, finally they said it was coming and it was totally nothing like the other one, like they almost forgot about it and tossed it together quickly. tasted good, but missing components and lack of plating presentation to the other one. Would I go here again if in the area. Probably. But also want to try out two other sushi places nearby.

Best seafood soup ever! We weren't in the mood for a full-service meal, so we just ordered appetizers at the bar. The service was great, the food was hot and flavorful. We will return!

Just a note to the owner/manager of Appare: HIDDEN CAMERAS - you need to keep track of these morons who are working for you and taking your paychecks. I guarantee you will be surprised at how they act when you are not around to supervise them. I wish I could give this place 0 stars, but Yelp would only allow 1 star as the lowest score. I came to eat at this place with 2 other friends. We were dressed in business casual clothing - came in 5 minutes after they opened, at 4:35pm. The ENTIRE restaurant was empty of course - we were the only table. From the time we sat down to the time we left (1 hour), we were the only table in the entire restaurant. This is to let you know that absolutely no other customers were being served, just 3 well mannered guys coming to get a bite after work. These are the reasons Appare is absolutely a douchenozzle of a restaurant: -Despite being the only customers there, it took 40 minutes to make 3 rolls (1 eel cucumber, 1 salmon, 1 tuna) -It took 40 minutes because only 1 sushi chef was doing anything at all. There were 2 other sushi chefs that just stood next to the working guy and screwed around (chatting, joking with eachother). -I would like to repeat: 1 sushi chef was making our food VERY slowly while 2 other chefs were standing around doing jack squat. -A group of about 5 waiters/hostesses stood at the sushi bar joking around loudly. -It was clear to me after a few minutes that this place is being run by friggin KIDS. They are all in their 20s, and don't give a damn about how to behave in front of guests. You can act this way in your own time, but not at the restaurant you're working at. -Never checked on after sushi was delivered 40 minutes after ordering. -We were in a rush after waiting so damn long for our food, that I just placed my credit card on the table to pay for the whole tab. The waiter stopped by, picked up the card, and said with a really douchey demeanor: "oh you want to pay or something?" Douche. I will never return, and I will make sure to let my friends/family know that this place is being run by complete imbeciles who don't care about customer service.

My favorite sushi place in Des Moines. Fresh and delicious. There are 5 areas that you can sit. The bar, the sushi bar, main seating area, around the Hibachi grills or in the private party rooms. The yellow tail is a must and udon noodles are fantastic. I have been here several times and am never disappointed. Great atomosphere, clean and the staff is always friendly and helpful.

Went to dinner here on a Friday night with my wife for some sushi. We sat at the bar like we usually do at sushi bars in order to get better service from the chefs. Neither chef greeted us, made eye contact, or acknowledged our presence. They both were staring down at the counter overly focused on making sushi. Granted, that's their job but I've never had a sushi chef ignore me like these guys. Then the waitress took forever (over 5 min) to take our order and another 7-10 min to bring us drinks. We couldn't order directly from the chefs. The sushi itself was pretty good for Des Moines. Not sure if it would pass muster on the coast or a bigger city. I can say I didn't get sick from it so that's probably enough to hope for in Iowa. The rolls we had were also good, try the V-Roll. The restaurant itself was clean and inviting but the lack of service was a deal-breaker for me. We'd come back again if the service was improved.

It's in a strip mall. It's a little sterile inside. I had some really good seafood udon noodle bowl and white tuna sushi here. This is a solid competitor in surburban Des Moines Japanese restaurants. I would make this the first stop if you are looking for really good udon and seafood.

Worst restaurant experience OF MY LIFE. We went to Appare for a friends birthday dinner. I called on Monday to make the reservation for 7pm and was told that I needed to do 6:45pm due to ONE party coming in at 7. The employee on the phone never asked if we were coming for hibachi and just assumed. The employee also did not inform me of their rule of everyone in the party must be present to be seated AND that if everyone was not present within 10 minutes of the reservation time then the reservation would be lost. Only did I find this out when a guest arrived, called me to tell me they didn't have the reservation, and then I spoke with an employee. She then proceeded to tell me all of the above. Fair enough rules when you're a restaurant that is slammed, overbooked, and in extremely high demand. When we arrived, there were two sushi tables occupied, NO hibachi tables occupied and my whole party (18 people) waiting in the bar area. After everyone had finally arrived, we were then informed that we couldn't be seated for another 45 minutes. After explaining to the employees that there are plenty of open tables to suit our party were we finally seated. Once being seated, we received waters that were half full with melted ice and were seated at filthy, sticky tables. Things seemed to be getting along just fine until our dinners were delivered. One of the guests received their plate and partway through the rice he came across something blue and plastic. After saying something to the server, his meal was not replaced nor compensated. Not once did a manager come out to apologize for the horrible experience we were having. When it came to desert, we expected the birthday girl to receive a happy birthday treat (at no cost like almost EVERY other restaurant will do) and wound up paying for that. They also included the gratuity - which was more than any one of us would've left given our own choice. Understandably, we had a large group so of course there was added in gratuity. However, when you're serving a table full of servers and industry employees, who made it well known they're in the industry, you'd expect more respectful service from the restaurant. Having been compensated for LESS from other smaller and larger restaurants, we were all expecting better. Needless to say, none of us will ever be returning to Appare. From the lack of clients on a Saturday night, I don't believe Appare will be around much longer.

Bad unprofessional service and attitude. The food was pretty good. Billy was very rude and offended me several times. Nothing too bad, but his actions were things you might do or say to a friend, but not somebody I am serving an expensive meal. I feel he didn't care if I enjoyed my experience. The rest of the trip was OK. Only Billy stood out as a huge negative. I read some of the reviews about bad service. I wonder if Billy was the culprit in their case as well. Definitely wound NOT go back!

It was a good dinner for all four of us. We have done the Japanese steak house them before but the kids always love the show and this was a good and interactive one. The food was good too and the staff was attentive to our allergies to include making a vegetable plate for us without mushrooms. The sushi was quality as well and my wife who normally doesn't do even rolls enjoyed the California Rolls. If we lived local we would return!

This place is pretty awesome. Great ambiance & decor, and outstanding service! When you walk in you feel like you've taken a trip somewhere else. You're greeted with a huge indoor koi pond & a cherry blossom tree. They offer private room sunken japanese-style seating. Usual prices you'd expect to pay for sushi, but the best thing is - each weeknight they hold a different special. MONDAY: 2fer on Teppanyaki (Habachi grill) meals & 30% off Sushi. If you go with a friend - its such an awesome deal. You'd probably pay under $15 each after tax / tip if you get that 2fer meal. WEDNESDAY: They offer a $17 sushi special. The Wait Staff is very friendly and they're really great on checking up on you and the Teppanyaki Chefs are comedy...just what you expect. Food + Entertainment!!!! Obviously there's an energy difference from each section...the bar (pretty large), the dining room, and the teppanyaki room. Be it an intimate dinner for two or a celebration dinner for a large party....Appare accomodates all! Definitely a place to try!

Excellent prices and atmosphere with just-OK sushi. I found most of the fish mushy. But the prices are much cheaper than I am used to ($3-5) so I can forgive a lot. It was a pleasant dining experience just not a very memorable one because of the food.

Favorite sushi place! Huge menu and everything is sooo good and fresh. I usually order the phili roll along with the spicy tuna roll. Best I've had! Reserved the Hibachi with 12 friends and we all had a blast. Everyone absolutely loved their food and the service. We even all got free sake bombs. We didn't get to set it up the traditional way, they had already just poured it in the glass mixed, which defeats the purpose and fun of making the sake shot fall off the chopsticks into the beer. They were packed and it was free so I'm not holding it against them. I had a Mai Tai, very good. Our chef kept squirting sake into our mouths which was really fun. They made my birthday really fun, the food was great, very fresh and all my friends want to go back soon. One couple that was with us ordered the "love boat" with the chef's choice of sushi. They loved it but I heard it's good to specify what you want in the boat so you don't get older less popular items in it. The place was crazy busy so on weekends you've got to make reservations, especially at the hibachi.

I've been here many times, their sushi is absolutely awesome. I would rate it one of the best in the Des Moines area. Wish their service was a tad bit better, sometimes it's a little out there. If you are on a date or have a small group of friends you can get a private room but you must spend $100 total. But it's totally worth it. Habachi is also really good, if you have a big group you should try to get the private dining room.

Appare prepares the best sushi that I have ever had in Des Moines. That being said, I am giving it a 4 because they are still lacking in several critical areas that diminish the overall dining experience. The space isn't that cool. They recently moved the host(ess) stand and tweaked some of the decor, but the space is still massive. I went with friends and someone (a first time visitor) said, "this place must suck - look how dead it is in here". This was said, even though there must have been 100 people in there. the space is too big - no matter what time I go, I always feel like I am hitting up some kind of crazy 4:30pm early bird buffet. The service is lacking, at best. The only redeeming aspect of the service is some bald waiter dude who really knows his stuff. He makes both the rookie sushi eaters and the experienced patrons, feel comfortable and when I sit in his section I always learn a thing or two. Every other server has been pretty much horrendous. So, if you visit and see some Mr. Clean looking dude, try to sit in his section. The owner guy is pretty good too. He's funny and comes by the tables to see how everyone is doing. In the back of the resturant there are those little private booths where you take you shoes off and sit on the ground. Haven't sat in there, but I have at other places and it is pretty fun. Might be worth looking in to. A couple of my favorite items were the Conch Roll - it had some name like Sea Coast or Sea Scape or something. Also, the white tuna sashami is AMAZING - so buttery delicious! Check it out!

I can only guess that the others who praised the sushi have not been to a truly good sushi bar. Sure some of my bias is because I am very fortunate to have a job that allows me travel across the country. Living within a 15 minute walk to Little Tokyo doesn't hurt, either. What I can tell everyone is that this place would not last in a city with an Asian population of any size. First, the waiter should work someplace else. The guy, despite his appearance, didn't know a single Japanese word. I asked for ocha (hot green tea). I then had to pretty much spell it out for him. The tea itself was bad: lukewarm and devoid of flavor. The only person who really enjoyed their meal was an eight year old who had never been to an ersatz Asian restaurant. The remaining three of us had sushi in some form. It turned out we were lucky in that they had an extremely limited selection of fish. The fish was very close to being bad/stale with the exception of the maguro and sake. (For the waiter: tuna and salmon.). There was something that I think was supposed to be a spicy tuna roll. I have never, ever had something like this before because the texture of the fish gave everyone the feeling that it was prepared in a blender or food processor instead of by hand using a knife. I had the beef sukiyaki (I had to point to it on the menu because it seems the waiter never heard of it. I can't decide if it's sad or pathetic.) For those of you who ever been to any Todai (a chain of Asian/seafood buffet restaurants with mass prepared food which normally draws a lot of criticism) you will long for the flavors and quality of Todai over this abomination.

Over priced. Steak and Shrimp hibachi meal was $30. $24.95 else where. They charged 4 couples a $17.50 service charge due to over 6 in our group. This is how they make up for the buy 1, get 1 free offer on Mondays. Charged $8 for small drinks. Will never go back.If you want a good Japanese steak house, go to Ohana's.

My 2015 quest to try every sushi restaurant in Des Moines continues on with Appare. What does the word "appare" mean? Although you won't find it in the restaurant's menu it means "bravo, admirable". Fitting for Urbandale's Japanese Steak House and Sushi. IMPRESSIONS: I dined on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. Nice looking interior, dark woods, red walls, fake tree that extends to the ceiling in this suburban strip mall eatery. Clean. Current pop music for background noise. Hibachi (see cool when I was eight) grill in the back room. No signage for bathrooms - saw several fellow diners have to ask. Our booth was covered in black table cloth with uncomfortable-to-lean-elbows-on glass covering. Candle with battery powered fake tea light and soy sauce bottle (no low sodium). Each table had an arts and craft style wooden hanging light above. The black covered menu also has a laminated sushi specialty roll menu insert. TOO MANY specialty rolls to choose from. Some are duplicated in the two. ORDERED: Jalapeno Sashimi $12, Mango Lover $13, Spicy Tuna Roll $8, Sweet Potato Roll $5, hot green tea $2 TASTED: First off the food arrives on large square and oval serving plates, two smaller plates and two small soy sauce bowls. The Jalapeno Sashimi (2 tuna, 2 salmon, 2 yellowtail specially prepared with jalapeno and Yuzu sauce) is a large serving on a bed of daikon radish noodles. Even though the jalapenos have the seeds removed (that's where the heat is) I found it over powered the raw fish. The sauce is subtle enough but the fish gets lost. The Mango Lover (spicy salmon, shrimp, & avocado with fresh mango & tuna on top) was great with contrasting textures (the chewy snap of the shrimp, smooth velvet fish and avocado) and the mango with it's sweet flavor balanced the spicy salmon. The spicy tuna roll is one I order at each sushi joint to compare it to others. It's good but the most spicy of any I've had. (Not good or bad just letting readers know). Sweet Potato roll is another control - this one ranks up there. Nice tempura crunch with sweetness from the potato and sauce. POST: I (probably unfairly) compare every sushi outing to Wasabi Chi/Tao. Appare doesn't knock Chi/Tao from my top spot but it's worthy of your dining dollars. Tightly rolled sushi, fresh tasting sashimi, complimenting sauces, inventive pairings (kiwi), professional service, affordable prices. CHANCE OF RETURN: 7/10

Pretty good sushi place, but honestly not too different than other ones in the Des Moines area. Their special sushi rolls were very good, I usually enjoy the taste of raw sushi better than cooked, but their cooked ones are very appetizing. I have only been here once with a large group so I cannot say I've tried many of their products. Their service was friendly and the interior was very nicely done. I would consider trying this place again if I am in the area craving sushi.

Monday nights are BOGO at the Hibachi Grill. Great Family Deal ! Except when suddenly a 34% service charge appeared on our bill. It seems they have decided to apply gratuity to the bill prior to discount. No mention of it anywhere! Ken checked "the system" said it was right. Last time I eat there! Get ready Taki.

Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
