Best food in Iowa! Well, to be honest, I haven't ate everywhere in Iowa, but I'm giving the award to Bevs anyway. I had supper there twice on a weeknight in October. I sat in a booth in the dining area and drank water both times, so I didn't experience the bar scene which sounded fun. Iowa steak wings were my appetizer the first night. Steak was cooked PERFECT and the sauce was yummy! The rolls are fresh, warm, and mouth watering. Not air filled yeast rolls, or brick-hard, just right. Side salad with home made blue cheese dressing was very tasty. Large portion too. My entree was chicken Oscar with a side of mashed potatoes. There was about a pound of potatoes and a huge slab of chicken. They were both delicious. The second night i had prime rib perfectly prepared with loaded baked potato. I highly recommend this to my fellow meat eaters. Side salad was just as good as my previous meal. This time I ordered the bread pudding early for desert and was so happy i did. Best dessert i've had since strawberry shortcake at Ted's Montana Grill. Service both nights was excellent and the atmosphere soothing. I'm sure both meals were about 2000 calories each, but if i could just eat once a day, it would be at Bev's.

Just throw your money in the river, The entire experience was mediocre at best. The spinach/artichoke dip should be renamed the chesse dip. The sea bass was overcooked and tough. The service was adequate. However, my date enjoyed his prime rib sandwich. I would never go back for dinner but might visit the bar for drinks when visiting Sioux City.

The good news: Great location and fantastic patio eating overlooking the swift flowing Missouri River. Looks like it's part of a hotel/mall, but it's not. The bar has plenty of TVs, regional beers, and plenty of space. The dining area has 2-3 story ceilings and lots of light and windows. The bad news: nothing on the menu looked or sounded regional or outstanding. I ordered the walleye (from Canada, it said). And a side salad instead of the ubiquous french fries. Even though it was 2 pm on a Saturday with no more than a dozen people in the place, it took 1/2 hour to get my fish sandwich with french fries. It took another five minutes to switch out the fries for a salad with commercial dressing. I wanted to feel like Mark Twain sitting on the Missouri River banks. Instead I felt like any traveler sitting down to a generic Americanized sandwich and salad.

In town on a Monday night for business staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. Too lazy to go out for dinner so wandered down to Bev's. Good move. For starters I had a Grey Goose martini up. Perfection!! I don't know why that's so hard to get right but Bev's bartender hit it. The bread I was served with my salad was very tasty. Round in shape, golden in color, and a hint of honey in the flavor. I ordered the special of cashew crusted salmon. It was awesome, full of flavor, not dry, and the cashew covering was sufficiantly crusty. "Bev's On the River" is a great choice when in Sioux City for any reason. Great food, good service, wonderful decor..

Bev's was awesome! Especially for a hotel restaurant. The staff were super friendly and the ambiance was nice. Loved the tall windows overlooking the river. Definitely will want to come back in summer and sit outside. The only weird part were those lame mesh flower things hanging from the windows. Ruined the beautiful view and looked like something my grandma would use to decorate a playroom with. But the food was amazing. Fresh bread! Fresh salad! Perfectly cooked steak. They could improve on the cocktail list. I had the Pearl Harbor martini and it tasted like the smell off Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion. Might have been good in 1986 but could use some updated recipes. All in, it was a delicious meal!

This certainly isn't like a lounge in Hoboken or NYC. It isn't a steak house like Peter Lugar's either. But in the middle of nowhere, this is one sweet spot. This is actually connected to the hotel. So it's a short walk inside the building. Over the 4 days, I visited Bevs on 4 or perhaps 5 occassions. We had dinner, lunch and drinks there. The bar was probably as "happening" of a place as it gets around here. Though I didn't walk into any bar down town, they didn't appear any more "happening" then this place. It's usually packed at night. Judging by the location of the cars parks outside, it's probably 60% hotel guests. They serve decent drinks and the services are good. For lunch, the lunch special is incredibly cheap. The only problem was that we got a waitress who was very absent minded. That wasn't a good combination when we were in a hurry. For our dinner visit, the waitress, Maria was top notch. We enjoyed the food and the services. The prime ribs were excellent. The best part of the meal might have been the bread pudding at the end. You would have to order it 20 minutes ahead though. It's made to order:)

Very disappointed. Ordered a Chechen pot pie that was good but cost $17. I ordered the sirloin which was 19. Not cooked to medium as requested, meat was tough, topping was terrible. Vegetables were over cooked. I will not be back for an over priced meal that I didn't like.

If this was based on the food alone it would be a one star (or no star) review. Our party of 6 went for Sunday Brunch and every one of us were disappointed. Before you jump to any conclusions about us being too picky let me tell you we were a varied group...a couple from Louisiana, a local couple who actually recommended the place and my hubby and myself (full-time travelers)...and none of us were even slightly impressed. The ambiance is great, the bar looked fantastic and the patio area was phenomenal...but the food?? It was bad. And not just "meh" bad...but real bad. Perhaps what made it worse was that it cost us $70 (we tipped well even though it wasn't full service for the brunch) for 2 people...seventy dollars...in Sioux City...for chewy waffles, powdered eggs, freezer burned hash browns, and dry cake. Sorry...but a bowl of raisin bran at home would have been better and I would have had $70 in my pocket to spend somewhere worthy. Never again.

The first time I was here, I came with a group of co- workers where one person didn't get his salad till everyone had finished their food. Like more than 30 minutes later. With no discount offered not any guesture of goodwill. Tonight I went there and the place is more than half empty on a Wed night and I didn't get any entree till 30 mins after I finished my salad. The whole time while I was wondering what was going on I couldn't find my server. She offered me an explanation that someone took my order by mistake. I wondered if that would have happened if she had checked on my order . Of course they didn't show offer any goodwill guesture either. I am just the poor soul that happen to have to wait 30 mins for food. I have to wonder what the service is like if they are busy.

This place looks like a big chain but it's not. The drinks are so cheap and quite strong. The bartenders were friendly and the food was good (not great). Try the Iowa Steak Wings. Not bad at all. The local beer wasn't too bad, and their tap selection was ample.

Honestly Bev's Kitchen staff deserves an award, everyone in our party enjoyed a plate worthy of a classy restaurant in a large metropolis ... great steaks, prime rib was tender & juicy, and the duck was done well (not greasy or chewy). Service however was well below average... servers are poorly trained and inattentive, what you expect from an apple-bee's or chilli's but absolutely NOT fine dining. Simple request such as a spoon to stir coffee had to be repeated multiple times & drinks were left empty without an offer to refill for long segments of our meal. However I will NEVER RETURN because of the absolutely unimaginably RUDE front of house manager. We began speaking with her to inform her of unpleasant atmosphere of servers vacuuming during meal service and poor service but instead of apologizing & trying to improve guest experience, Candace (a manager mind you) insisted she could do no wrong & her staff was perfect as well & that she could care less about our grievances. Piss Poor Management both left a sour taste in my mouth and also lead directly to ever issue we encountered. WORST Sioux City Dining experience ever! Bev's NEEDS NEW MANAGEMENT desperately

Popped up from neighboring Nebraska... Three hour drive and a two hour wait until check-in at the Hard Rock Sioux City. So killing time at one of my favorite upscale dives "Bev's on the river". Sipping a Stoli martini and chatting with family. I only wish it was later so I could challenge my palate with the dinner menu! Never had a bad meal here. The river view is amazing, but it's cool inside at the granite bar. Loving my long lazy weekend.

After a long day in the car as we continue our road trip from Florida to Seattle my son requested eating dinner somewhere that we could be outside. This place was an excellent choice we sat on the patio and watched all the activity on the river. To start we got the crab cheese dip...loved. I tried an Iowa craft beer and Iowa stuffed pork chops, my husband had the country fried steak and my son had the chicken pot pie. The servings were large and the flavor was great. None of us left their hungry or had room for desert!

The atmosphere was really nice. Our group enjoyed a nice outside table overlooking the river. It would have been nice to have some candle light on the table. It was very dark and hard to read the menu. The bruschetta appetizer was very good. The pasta and sliders were just okay. The only main course that got really good reviews was the steak. Service meet expectations. It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. Errors and other requests were handled appropriately.

Ordered a Walu fish straight from Hawaii. It was one of the best fish I've ever had! It was seared and topped with a Parmesan sour cream. It came with clam chowder soup, Parmesan risotto and jumbo asparagus. Delicious! And it's under $25!

A huge restaurant restaurant like this one should staff appropriately for a busy night in Sioux City. Especially since they should be aware this is the weekend leading up to The big Sturgis rally. They were not well staffed and the staff they did employ seemed to have the communication skills required for solitary confinement. The service was abysmal and this is too bad after all the glowing reviews I read...I had my hopes up for a good meal after a long day driving through the heartland. We left before our meal arrived as we'd waited for 45+ minutes without update on the entrees. The sad appetizer salads we received were merely functional as salads and their remnants not cleared after they were obviously finished. We found the hostess, paid for our drinks and left. However, the pretzel bread was tasty.

Our goal in coming to Bev's was to find regional beer; we're on a road trip from NC to WA. I don't know about the food (we arrived just as the kitchen closed 10 p.m.), but were staisfied that five of the ten tap handles has regional brewery beers. Bottle selection is all mainstream stuff. Had the Goose Pond Honker Ale and Goose Pond IPA and the Boulevard Wheat. Beer is $3.75. Don't be deceived by the strip-mall like entrance--it's classy inside. =Two large screen TVs in the bar. Lovely overall atmosphere and fun bartender. Patio would be awesome in the summer--they have live music Thursdays-weekends.
Bev's is one of the nicer restaurants in Sioux City with a nice atmosphere on the banks of the Missouri river. While known for their steaks, the menu offers a wide range of choices, including a couple of signature pork dishes, a variety of interesting chicken options plus a handful of pasta dishes. The men settled on red meat, including the 11 oz. ribeye and beef tenderloin tournedos, two 4oz filets. The women both chose cashew chicken stir fry. Everything comes with a house salad, a generous serving, and the steaks included grilled vegetables and cheesy potatoes, although mine were more similar to potatoes Napolean. The food, the presentation and the service were all above average. The wine list covers all the bases and is the most affordable one I've seen in years. But, then again, I'm used to big city prices. As an added bonus, all bottles under $99 (which is almost everything), are half price on Wednesday's. It lost a little respect, though, when I spotted a White Zinfandel. Maybe it's the market they serve, but really, in this day and age? Our tab for four was $90 pre-tip and didn't include any alcohol, but did include one dessert. The bread pudding was good, but I'm a Southern boy used to tasting whiskey or rum in my sauce. It claimed to come with a bourbon sauce, but I tasted nary a drop. Come on, Bev's, make it real. Honestly, I left impressed at the quality of the food for a town like Sioux City. It's a touch of big city sophistication in a rather casual town.

I love this restaurant during the summer. We always choose outdoor seating. The atmosphere and decor are all top notch! I've been here several times and tried several different dishes and have yet to be disappointed. It's a bit in the high class side for Sioux City. The food isn't the cheapest, but it's a great spot for a special date. Or you can come at lunch time with anyone. My daughter and I came for lunch and both had the soup, salad and breadstick for $6.50. We left full for under $20! It was all delicious too! Highly recommend!!

Came here twice while staying at the hotel for business. Service was a bit slow but very attentive. First time, I had a great salad, the applewood smoked Chicken salad. It was very flavorful. I ordered a grasshopper after dinner drink which was amazing and I ended up finishing it off, even though I hadn't planned too. The second time, I had the salmon. Very good salmon and it didn't need the pineapple teriyaki sauce which they gladly placed on the side. Great bread, dinner salad, wine selection. I couldn't have asked for anything better. My only complaint was the live music ......terrible selection and they were competing with the noise in the bar, which made it even worse. Ugghh.....not necessary.

Went back and fourth between a four and a five, and obviously settled on a five. While there were a few finesse issues that would have been nice, the friendly, engaging service and food swayed the day I was very pleased with my meal. The hot pretzel bread was superb and the butter was spreadable from the start! The salad and blue cheese dressing was very good. A minor issue, I would have liked them to offer the fresh ground black pepper instead of having to ask. As. Said minor but it would have been a nice touch The prime rib was excellent. Cooked as ordered (medium rare) and tender throughout. The 10oz portion was generous and had a nice mar belling of fat, i.e. Not too much! The sides were well done. A well prepared baked potato (I would not call it loaded, no chives) and the vegetable medley was excellent as they were hot and had a nice little crunch. Very pleased overall and would definitely go back

I've been less than impressed with the food both times I've eaten here, the 3 stars are primarily for the gorgeous view of the river and attractively landscaped patio. If the the chefs would actually prepare food as it is described on the menu, they might have something. I ordered a sandwich that was described as a chicken breast topped with onion marmalade and smoked cheddar on pretzel bread (sounds delicious, right?) what I received was a greasy open faced slab of bread with tiny bits of chicken, a large amount of fried onions and several types of shredded cheese melted on top, none of which tasted like smoked cheddar. The only flavors I could detect were salt and slightly burned onion, with lots and lots of grease. My suggestion is to go for drinks, or coffee and dessert if you want to look at the river, or go to the other side, in South Sioux and get some decent food at that other river hotel restaurant.

My wife and I ate here on a Saturday night recently. The place was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. We got right in. The waiter was knowledgable (he knew what kind of wine my wife wanted with a vague description...maybe that's normal, but my wife was happy), helpful, and attentive. Food was very good. Bev's On the River is connected to a Hilton Garden Inn and located "on the river" in Sioux City. I am not from Sioux City. I have never been to Sioux CIty. I am lucky I chose the HIlton Garden Inn as my hotel because I did not see any other restaurants in Sioux City besides a Famous Dave's, a Chili's and a Perkins. I am not a fan of chains. But anyway, I sat at the bar, and tried to spend some time studying the menu, which was what I call a typical wannabe fine dining establishment for a town of this size. Menu options went from fish flown in daily from Hawaii (a nice touch), to the house specialty prime rib, to steaks, to the Iowa stuffed pork chops (which I had to get, seeing as I was in Iowa and the bartender made a really big deal out of telling me that this was "real, Iowa pork"). I upgraded to a Caesar salad, which was odd in that the Caesar included minced red onion and bacon, two additions that made it more of a garden salad with Caesar dressing than a Caesar salad. Not sure why it cost $2.50 more, unless the bacon was from "real Iowa pigs" too. The pork was not great, but was edible. The stuffing was more of a smooth stuffing, which was odd, I was expecting a cornbread stuffing (like the menu said), but it was like a cornbread stuffing that was put in a blender first. The gravy was quite good on the pork. The mashed potatoes were homemade as there were chunks of potatoes and I am a fan of freshly made mashed potatoes. The wine list is quite bad. But there was a terrific Iowa pale ale on tap which was delicious. Three stars, I would come back.

Went in twice in a week while on a business trip in Sioux City. This place can get expensive depending on what you order. The stuffed Iowa pork chops were amazing, and the apple cinnamon sauce added a delightful flavor to the pork chops. We went in the winter so the river was frozen but they say it looks beautiful in the summer when you dine by the riverside.

Had the opportunity to eat the pork osso bucco. The menu states that it's a "Braised pork shank slow roasted in a rich natural au jus. Served on a bed of skin-on garlic mashed potatoes and smothered in rich brown gravy." The glaze was excellent and the pork was moist, tender and tasty, along with being presented artfully. Others in the party had sirloin salad, crab cakes, 1/4 head of lettuce and the prime rib sandwich. All those were good, but the pork osso bucco was exceptional. If you like pork, this is "Top of the Mark." Very nice atmosphere, good staff, efficient and friendly service.

The bar was probably as "happening" of a place as it gets around here. Though I didn't walk into any bar down town, they didn't appear any more "happening" then this place. It's usually packed at night. Judging by the location of the cars parks outside, it's probably 60% hotel guests. They serve decent drinks and the services are good. For lunch, the lunch special is incredibly cheap. The only problem was that we got a waitress who was very absent minded. That wasn't a good combination when we were in a hurry. For our dinner visit, the waitress, Maria was top notch. We enjoyed the food and the services. The prime ribs were excellent. The best part of the meal might have been the bread pudding at the end. You would have to order it 20 minutes ahead though. It's made to order:)

Very disappointed. Ordered a Chechen pot pie that was good but cost $17. I ordered the sirloin which was 19. Not cooked to medium as requested, meat was tough, topping was terrible. Vegetables were over cooked. I will not be back for an over priced meal that I didn't like.

If this was based on the food alone it would be a one star (or no star) review. Our party of 6 went for Sunday Brunch and every one of us were disappointed. Before you jump to any conclusions about us being too picky let me tell you we were a varied group...a couple from Louisiana, a local couple who actually recommended the place and my hubby and myself (full-time travelers)...and none of us were even slightly impressed. The ambiance is great, the bar looked fantastic and the patio area was phenomenal...but the food?? It was bad. And not just "meh" bad...but real bad. Perhaps what made it worse was that it cost us $70 (we tipped well even though it wasn't full service for the brunch) for 2 people...seventy dollars...in Sioux City...for chewy waffles, powdered eggs, freezer burned hash browns, and dry cake. Sorry...but a bowl of raisin bran at home would have been better and I would have had $70 in my pocket to spend somewhere worthy. Never again.

The first time I was here, I came with a group of co- workers where one person didn't get his salad till everyone had finished their food. Like more than 30 minutes later. With no discount offered not any guesture of goodwill. Tonight I went there and the place is more than half empty on a Wed night and I didn't get any entree till 30 mins after I finished my salad. The whole time while I was wondering what was going on I couldn't find my server. She offered me an explanation that someone took my order by mistake. I wondered if that would have happened if she had checked on my order . Of course they didn't show offer any goodwill guesture either. I am just the poor soul that happen to have to wait 30 mins for food. I have to wonder what the service is like if they are busy.

This place looks like a big chain but it's not. The drinks are so cheap and quite strong. The bartenders were friendly and the food was good (not great). Try the Iowa Steak Wings. Not bad at all. The local beer wasn't too bad, and their tap selection was ample.

Honestly Bev's Kitchen staff deserves an award, everyone in our party enjoyed a plate worthy of a classy restaurant in a large metropolis ... great steaks, prime rib was tender & juicy, and the duck was done well (not greasy or chewy). Service however was well below average... servers are poorly trained and inattentive, what you expect from an apple-bee's or chilli's but absolutely NOT fine dining. Simple request such as a spoon to stir coffee had to be repeated multiple times & drinks were left empty without an offer to refill for long segments of our meal. However I will NEVER RETURN because of the absolutely unimaginably RUDE front of house manager. We began speaking with her to inform her of unpleasant atmosphere of servers vacuuming during meal service and poor service but instead of apologizing & trying to improve guest experience, Candace (a manager mind you) insisted she could do no wrong & her staff was perfect as well & that she could care less about our grievances. Popped up from neighboring Nebraska... Three hour drive and a two hour wait until check-in at the Hard Rock Sioux City. So killing time at one of my favorite upscale dives "Bev's on the river". Sipping a Stoli martini and chatting with family. I only wish it was later so I could challenge my palate with the dinner menu! Never had a bad meal here. The river view is amazing, but it's cool inside at the granite bar. Loving my long lazy weekend.

After a long day in the car as we continue our road trip from Florida to Seattle my son requested eating dinner somewhere that we could be outside. This place was an excellent choice we sat on the patio and watched all the activity on the river. To start we got the crab cheese dip...loved. I tried an Iowa craft beer and Iowa stuffed pork chops, my husband had the country fried steak and my son had the chicken pot pie. The servings were large and the flavor was great. None of us left their hungry or had room for desert!

The atmosphere was really nice. Our group enjoyed a nice outside table overlooking the river. It would have been nice to have some candle light on the table. It was very dark and hard to read the menu. The bruschetta appetizer was very good. The pasta and sliders were just okay. The only main course that got really good reviews was the steak. Service meet expectations. It wasn't great and it wasn't terrible. Errors and other requests were handled appropriately.

Ordered a Walu fish straight from Hawaii. It was one of the best fish I've ever had! It was seared and topped with a Parmesan sour cream. It came with clam chowder soup, Parmesan risotto and jumbo asparagus. Delicious! And it's under $25!

A huge restaurant restaurant like this one should staff appropriately for a busy night in Sioux City. Especially since they should be aware this is the weekend leading up to The big Sturgis rally. They were not well staffed and the staff they did employ seemed to have the communication skills required for solitary confinement. The service was abysmal and this is too bad after all the glowing reviews I read...I had my hopes up for a good meal after a long day driving through the heartland. We left before our meal arrived as we'd waited for 45+ minutes without update on the entrees. The sad appetizer salads we received were merely functional as salads and their remnants not cleared after they were obviously finished. We found the hostess, paid for our drinks and left. However, the pretzel bread was tasty.

Sat at the bar...reasonable beer prices...and a couple Iowa craft beers available. They were out of my first choice, the walleye...so I third Hawaiian Walu and was Not one bit disappointed. Not a huge portion but delicious. A little pricey...but the quality was there!

Our goal in coming to Bev's was to find regional beer; we're on a road trip from NC to WA. I don't know about the food (we arrived just as the kitchen closed 10 p.m.), but were staisfied that five of the ten tap handles has regional brewery beers. Bottle selection is all mainstream stuff. Had the Goose Pond Honker Ale and Goose Pond IPA and the Boulevard Wheat. Beer is $3.75. Don't be deceived by the strip-mall like entrance--it's classy inside. =Two large screen TVs in the bar. Lovely overall atmosphere and fun bartender. Patio would be awesome in the summer--they have live music Thursdays-weekends.

Ambience was nice with nice view for the area. Food not so much. I asked the waitress if the french dip had a nice toasted bun and she said yes, so I ordered it. Not so, it was pretty much roast beef slabbed on a hoagie bun and barely toasted. Tried the creme brûlée and it was served cold for nearly $7. Creme brûlée is supposed to be torched right before serving for the sensation of hot and cold. If you are going to charge that much for a dessert, it should be served correctly.

Bev's is one of the nicer restaurants in Sioux City with a nice atmosphere on the banks of the Missouri river. While known for their steaks, the menu offers a wide range of choices, including a couple of signature pork dishes, a variety of interesting chicken options plus a handful of pasta dishes. The men settled on red meat, including the 11 oz. ribeye and beef tenderloin tournedos, two 4oz filets. The women both chose cashew chicken stir fry. Everything comes with a house salad, a generous serving, and the steaks included grilled vegetables and cheesy potatoes, although mine were more similar to potatoes Napolean. The food, the presentation and the service were all above average. The wine list covers all the bases and is the most affordable one I've seen in years. But, then again, I'm used to big city prices. As an added bonus, all bottles under $99 (which is almost everything), are half price on Wednesday's. It lost a little respect, though, when I spotted a White Zinfandel. Maybe it's the market they serve, but really, in this day and age? Our tab for four was $90 pre-tip and didn't include any alcohol, but did include one dessert. The bread pudding was good, but I'm a Southern boy used to tasting whiskey or rum in my sauce. It claimed to come with a bourbon sauce, but I tasted nary a drop. Come on, Bev's, make it real. Honestly, I left impressed at the quality of the food for a town like Sioux City. It's a touch of big city sophistication in a rather casual town.

I love this restaurant during the summer. We always choose outdoor seating. The atmosphere and decor are all top notch! I've been here several times and tried several different dishes and have yet to be disappointed. It's a bit in the high class side for Sioux City. The food isn't the cheapest, but it's a great spot for a special date. Or you can come at lunch time with anyone. My daughter and I came for lunch and both had the soup, salad and breadstick for $6.50. We left full for under $20! It was all delicious too! Highly recommend!!

Came here twice while staying at the hotel for business. Service was a bit slow but very attentive. First time, I had a great salad, the applewood smoked Chicken salad. It was very flavorful. I ordered a grasshopper after dinner drink which was amazing and I ended up finishing it off, even though I hadn't planned too. The second time, I had the salmon. Very good salmon and it didn't need the pineapple teriyaki sauce which they gladly placed on the side. Great bread, dinner salad, wine selection. I couldn't have asked for anything better. My only complaint was the live music ......terrible selection and they were competing with the noise in the bar, which made it even worse. Ugghh.....not necessary.

Went back and fourth between a four and a five, and obviously settled on a five. While there were a few finesse issues that would have been nice, the friendly, engaging service and food swayed the day I was very pleased with my meal. The hot pretzel bread was superb and the butter was spreadable from the start! The salad and blue cheese dressing was very good. A minor issue, I would have liked them to offer the fresh ground black pepper instead of having to ask. As. Said minor but it would have been a nice touch The prime rib was excellent. Cooked as ordered (medium rare) and tender throughout. The 10oz portion was generous and had a nice mar belling of fat, i.e. Not too much! The sides were well done. A well prepared baked potato (I would not call it loaded, no chives) and the vegetable medley was excellent as they were hot and had a nice little crunch. I've been less than impressed with the food both times I've eaten here, the 3 stars are primarily for the gorgeous view of the river and attractively landscaped patio. If the the chefs would actually prepare food as it is described on the menu, they might have something. I ordered a sandwich that was described as a chicken breast topped with onion marmalade and smoked cheddar on pretzel bread (sounds delicious, right?) what I received was a greasy open faced slab of bread with tiny bits of chicken, a large amount of fried onions and several types of shredded cheese melted on top, none of which tasted like smoked cheddar. The only flavors I could detect were salt and slightly burned onion, with lots and lots of grease. My suggestion is to go for drinks, or coffee and dessert if you want to look at the river, or go to the other side, in South Sioux and get some decent food at that other river hotel restaurant.

My wife and I ate here on a Saturday night recently. The place was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. We got right in. The waiter was knowledgable (he knew what kind of wine my wife wanted with a vague description...maybe that's normal, but my wife was happy), helpful, and attentive. Food was very good. Atmosphere was comfortable and warm. Prices were not totally unreasonable. It's good food in a comfortable environment with attentive service. That's worth a little something to us.

Bev's On the River is connected to a Hilton Garden Inn and located "on the river" in Sioux City. I am not from Sioux City. I have never been to Sioux CIty. I am lucky I chose the HIlton Garden Inn as my hotel because I did not see any other restaurants in Sioux City besides a Famous Dave's, a Chili's and a Perkins. I am not a fan of chains. But anyway, I sat at the bar, and tried to spend some time studying the menu, which was what I call a typical wannabe fine dining establishment for a town of this size. Menu options went from fish flown in daily from Hawaii (a nice touch), to the house specialty prime rib, to steaks, to the Iowa stuffed pork chops (which I had to get, seeing as I was in Iowa and the bartender made a really big deal out of telling me that this was "real, Iowa pork"). I upgraded to a Caesar salad, which was odd in that the Caesar included minced red onion and bacon, two additions that made it more of a garden salad with Caesar dressing than a Caesar salad. Not sure why it cost $2.50 more, unless the bacon was from "real Iowa pigs" too. The pork was not great, but was edible. The stuffing was more of a smooth stuffing, which was odd, I was expecting a cornbread stuffing (like the menu said), but it was like a cornbread stuffing that was put in a blender first. The gravy was quite good on the pork. The mashed potatoes were homemade as there were chunks of potatoes and I am a fan of freshly made mashed potatoes. The wine list is quite bad. But there was a terrific Iowa pale ale on tap which was delicious. Three stars, I would come back.

Went in twice in a week while on a business trip in Sioux City. This place can get expensive depending on what you order. The stuffed Iowa pork chops were amazing, and the apple cinnamon sauce added a delightful flavor to the pork chops. We went in the winter so the river was frozen but they say it looks beautiful in the summer when you dine by the riverside.

Had the opportunity to eat the pork osso bucco. The menu states that it's a "Braised pork shank slow roasted in a rich natural au jus. Served on a bed of skin-on garlic mashed potatoes and smothered in rich brown gravy." The glaze was excellent and the pork was moist, tender and tasty, along with being presented artfully. Others in the party had sirloin salad, crab cakes, 1/4 head of lettuce and the prime rib sandwich. All those were good, but the pork osso bucco was exceptional. If you like pork, this is "Top of the Mark." Very nice atmosphere, good staff, efficient and friendly service.

I'll keep this brief (for a change). I was extremely happy overall with Bev's. I ate at the bar, and had an excellent cut of prime rib!. Beer selection is NOT a craftie's delight, but has several choices that are okay. Great bar service from Mitch!
