We are very fortunate to have this here in Ottumwa. They offer original recipes and delicious BBQ that you can't get from your chain restaurant.

I ordered a bacon cheeseburger because I was just not in the mood for something sloppy. Turned out it was sloppy and covered in some bland sauce which was kind of gross. Also tried some of their BBQ and myself being from Tennessee it is not up to my standard. Think this place is just for the obese who don't care what is being shoved down their mouth as long as it's food like.

Certainly the only BBQ restaurant in Ottumwa by my understanding, that said it wasn't bad. Competition in town may be a win-win situation for all parties involved. My meal was a late lunch consisting of a sliced brisket sandwich. The place was quiet and certainly BBQ themed. With only one choice of sauce it makes for very... bottle-necked experience; this guy doesn't mind a vinegar style sauce. The burnt ends and Iowa pork chops were suggested by the waitress, and they will be on my to-do list. Until then, Munch On!

Ok have a friend who wanted to eat here. And we did. On Tuesday,Aug.5,2014. Its full service. Is in a mall, with a sign showing where its at. It was at lunch time,so service was on the slow side. Had pulled chicken sandwich, with a side order of baked beans. The beans had taste, but the sandwich, had no taste. Even the bbq sause, has a little taste . Now for the peach pie,had peaches in it.But the crust for it. Was like paper with very little taste! No Coke ,or Pepsi products. Had ice tea.

They have everything you would want in a BBQ restaurant-Size, sauce, quality of meat, choices, great sides all cooked by someone who loves BBQ and activley competes in competition. If you are close by this small Iowa town, please try Bubba-Q's small town place with big town bite. I have tried many BBQ joints, trust me this is a winner. Glad to see this place doing well.

Third visit and I stepped out of my rut and risked ordering a chopped beef sandwich and my usual side of slaw. I really like the chopped pork with plenty of Louisiana Hot sauce, but decided to try something different this time. When I ordered, the woman asked if I wanted the smaller sandwich that comes with one side, as a special. I insisted on the regular sandwich. I watched her make it and realized the smaller one would probably be enough. The regular sandwich will probably feed a family of four. Honestly, I almost got full eating the loose chopped beef that fell off the sides of the bun when I unwrapped it at my table. Nevertheless, I managed to get away with it. The beef is moist with a little seasoned broth. It is reasonably smoky. It is really similar to the pork, but is clearly beefy. I still prefer the pork but this is certainly acceptable. BubbaQ's remains a very solid three stars. Remember, that really does mean A-OK. I will keep stopping and will try to get up nerve to try the sliced meats, the turkey and maybe even give the ribs another chance. (see first review)

We've been here twice, and both times the food was good. The smoked prime rib is better than good--it is excellent. However, the price was quite a bit higher than the same dish at Texas Roadhouse (which is also excellent). At $85 for 3 people (one of whom had a bbq sandwich and not prime rib), this will have to be an occasional treat rather than the weekly go-to we are searching for in Ottumwa.

Bubba Q's ** Full service, dining full menu, nicely decorated Sauces: Only one to choose from and it was not good Pulled pork: No smoke, no flavor, chopped way to fine and very dry Ribs: very small ribs which in the end turned out to be okay because they were not good, however they were cooked well. Burnt ends: I love burnt ends these were good but still not great Sides: The sides were all good many to choose from but the John Deere corn was amazing. It contained corn, lime juice, cilantro, mayo, and cheese by far the best thing I had all night. Overall: The best thing about Bubba Q's was their website. I was convinced it was going to be good and whoever designed their site needs to be commended because they fooled me. If I were to return I would have to try something on the menu other than the BBQ.

We were delighted with our meal at BubbaQ's on November 1, 2014. I had a half rack of ribs and my wife had chicken and noodle casserole. We also tried the Rueben flatbread appetizer. Everything, including the cole slaw and baked beans were delicious. We will be going back the next time we visit Ottumwa.

I've loved Bubba-Q's for years, now that Bubba has opened his own place, it's great because I don't have to wait for Bubba to come where I'm shopping... I can go eat whenever he's open. This place is frequently busy, and I hope Bubba stays busy and has to open a larger place... as seating seems to come at a premium in this old Subway shop. It's great because it's downtown, limited parking, but well worth the walk! Bubba's has a weekly and monthly drawing... so drop off your business card at the cash register and you could win free food! They offer you a take out choice or a stay and eat-in choice, and I love both! Definitely will be going back when I'm in the mood for some super BBQ... oh and the portion helpings are more than generous!

Great tasting BBQ and incredibly low prices for the portion size. I hope Bubba makes a go of it in down-town Ottumwa.
