Average food for a steakhouse chain. Excellent service! Was busy when we got there. 30 minute estimated wait for a table of two, but the wait was enjoyable. Interesting decor. Steak was cooked perfectly to order, sweet potatoes are to die for!!!

Great steakhouse with a friendly staff and cool decor. It's the place you eat with your family when they are in town, as the menu offers plenty of choices. We had a party of thirteen, and everyone wanted variations on the menu items. The waitress was patient and the cooks delivered ALL the requests. Now that is awesome! The burgers were huge, the steaks tender, and the expected cinnamon butter was smooth and delicious. The only thing that wasn't great was the fries, if I could do it over, I would get another one of their 10+ side choice.

Amazing service here. Their bread and butter is similar to Texas Roadhouse. Great prices for amazing food. Worth the 3 hour trip for me!

Don't waste your time and money. I ordered the full slab of ribs with a salad and baked potato. The ribs were no more than roasted pork with bones. No rub, no smoke, virtually tasteless. My companion ordered the chicken fried steak with a salad and cup of cheesy broccoli soup. I asked what was wrong with the soup after I noticed it wasn't being consumed and was advised it tasted like it came out of a can.

Do not go here. Terrible food. What is described as lightly breaded shrimp is pre- breaded Shrimp frozen from a bag. Salad included old pre- cut bagged lettuce w a half slice of cucumber. In-edible. Entrees were no better. The southwest chicken was saturated in some sort of solution so that it'd be moist. It was chewy and topped w yellow cilantro in the pico-de gallo. The chopped steak was topped w some funky tasting mushroom sauce, likely packaged. The fried okra came out under cooked. Tea and coffee are $3 each. No refills were ever offered. We also had to ask twice for cream.

Really good food in the mist of interstate fast food. If want a break they have a nice restaurant and a separated bar area. Relaxing place from the road.

This place is disgusting. It's the height of gross excess. The large portion sizes are just more lackluster. Avoid at all costs.

Speedy and friendly service. Sirloin steak not bad, but under seasoned. Chicken fried steak was pretty good. Salad was terrible, steamed vegetables were horribly cooked (cooked way too much). Mac and cheese was bland, mashed potatoes were bland too. Fried zucchini and mushrooms had a lot of breading but not much taste. Not a very satisfying experience.

Reminds me of Texas Roadhouse chain, but with a broader menu selection. Staff was very friendly and fast. The portions are huge, even off the lunch menu, so either go hungry or maybe order just a few dishes to share. The fresh baked rolls and cinnamon butter were excellent.

The food was great and the service even better! The only down side was the servings may be a tad on the large size which makes it difficult to finish the entire meal. However, that is somewhat common problem in today's restaurants. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and the onion rings were beyond awesome. Service was impeccable.

Good service and rolls. That is where we leave it. Mashed potatoes, salad, even fries were so so, and those are hard to mess up . Won't be back.

The negative reviews for Montana Mike's are probably from Persnickety folks that are too snobish or broke to go to a high end restaurant... MM was clean, friendly, large menu, and the food matched the size of the menu LARGE!!! Good atmosphere for family gathering and the waitress always checked in on us. I as lunch and have lunch for tomorrow as well.

Seriously awful. I went here passing through Iowa on a road trip and it was like a knock off Texas road house that couldn't live up to it. I got the roasted chicken that was dry as hell. And my side salad literally had one onion ring and one slice of cucumber. My bf ordered the one pound burger and they totally disregarded his wishes for no onion and mayo. Fries were cold. Not going back. The only good item I ordered was my cocktail called the mason jar melonade. That was actually very good. The food is not worth it.

Father's Day. What a better time to show your Dad how much you love him by taking him out for a substandard meal that could have been cooked cheaper and better at home. We ventured to the town of Newton. Most well known for Maytag Blue Cheese, Iowa Speedway and once upon a time, Maytag appliances. Montana Mike's will not be added to that list of memorable items. We went a little after the lunch rush and the lot was not full. We were seated in the bar, the furthest, darkest corner. Great! This might have kept others from seeing how much we disliked our experience. And since we were in the bar that meant there were tv's everywhere. But if you are going to have them on, can't you find a channel with something that the clients might enjoy. The main tv was playing some OJ Simpson thing. Great. Decor: Backwoodsy. Bears and wood and anything else that looks like it came from the Fingerhut catalog. Cleanliness: Ok. Daughter stepped in something under the booth, but no one wanted to look to close to see what it might have been. Menus were clean. I hate sticky, dirty menus. Service: So-so. I don't think LynnAnne or whatever two name waiteress took care of us was bad. Just not good. Maybe she had been really busy earlier and was exhausted to the point of not being able to check back often? Hey, three of us are drinking water. How about a refill? Food: Large selection. Prices seemed ok. But then the food came out. Lettuce salads were very, very wet. Pamela R hit it on the head with her description. We did have some small croutons on ours. The blue cheese salad dressing was only distinguishable by microscopic lumps of what might have been cheese. There was no flavor to it at all. Perhaps they should visit that Maytag cheese place and see what it should taste like. Steaks. My husband's 10 ounce and my 6 ounce looked very, very similar. He even asked and MarySue replied, "Yep, that's the steak." I'm sure she had a lot of experience with it. The flavor was so-so, not the worse steak but several bites definitely had that "livery" taste. The french fries appeared to be battered? They sucked and so I asked for some mayo to dip them in. She brought me miracle whip; lovingly squeezed from the bottle as evident by the ribbon. There is a big difference in taste between the two, so don't try to fool me. Kiddo #1 had a steak, it was just like ours. Kiddo #2 had the kids pasta Alfredo. Do you want chicken or shrimp with that? Said BeckyJo. Figured it would be an upcharge, but hey, the kid likes shrimp. So the upcharge was $3.00 (same as adult upcharge on adult portion) and it had four shrimp that were about the size of a popcorn shrimp. They were horribly overcooked so much that they were so rubbery that the kid didn't want to eat them. Husband tried one and said they weren't very good. $3 for four shrimp. Is that what the adults would get also? Would I come back? Not if the Okaboji Grill is still open across the street.

Ok we are from out of town and are always looking for great eats... this was not the stop to make. Sadly we wasted way too much money with this debacle. We got The Whole Rack of ribs for one entrée, they were boiled lacked flavor and texture.... The other entrée was a chicken fried sirloin, it was decent but not overly wonderful, the soup which I ordered was awful sorta like Cambell's from the can. Lastly the salads were ok however way to chunky with overly fibrous pieces... The saving grace and the only reason to give it any stars was the service. The server, bless her, was very efficient and made sure to check on us often. Based on this trip we will not be returning.

We were on our way to Iowa City and stopped at Montana Mikes based kon some Yelp reviews. It ended up being an excellent choice. First, the bread was amazing. I could tell it was fresh baked. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer and they were also very very good. Warning to all though, the portions are very large and we were almost full before the actual entree came out. The chicken fried steak was perfectly done and the gravy on top was outstanding. Overall, the pricing was very fair for the portions of food and the service was good and quick. Keeping this on the list of places to stop when going through Iowa.

Excellent stopover while driving from Colorado to NJ. Great food & service. In addition, I left an item there which was immediately mailed to me. We look forward to a return visit. Ron A
