Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

For consistently delicious Mexican food, fast and friendly service, and great value, don't miss one of the best restaurants we have in Newton! Recommend the Pollo con Crema with a Presidente Margarita (rocks, and one is all you need;) and some Xango for dessert! My family has enjoyed La Cabana ever since they opened their doors here in 1999, and we have friends from Des Moines and the Quad Cities who now make a point to dine here when they come to town.

Was in town for a night and decided to check this place out. Great food, fast service (even though the place was pretty busy). Only think I can say is if you are out of town you really have to look out for this place as it is tucked back in to a small shopping center. Would definitely go back!

Sigh. My bad for coming here. We don't usually. Tired of the lack of restaurants in this town and not wanting to cook, we thought we would give it another shot (we should have stopped at Taco Johns instead). People, this is not authentic Mexican food. Even the salsa is bland. I would rather eat Tostitos brand chips and salsa over theirs. I had the Pollo Yucatan, IT HAD A SLICE OF AMERICAN PROCESSED CHEESE ON TOP OF THE SHRIMP!!! I was absolutely disgusted and began picking that off to find a hair mixed in the chicken and rice. My husband's refried beans were cold and his carne asada tacos had no flavor. I do not know how this place has 4 stars. I will not go here again. As for the so called awards on the wall by the register: The local one that I heard of, they came in 3rd for tacos, this town has 4 "Mexican" places, 2 of them are fast food chains, so that should tell you something if they placed behind them. The other awards, I am wondering if they are purchased and made up. **Interesting, it looks like the 2 locals gave it 1 star, all others are not from the area and are mostly out of state......

This was 2 miles off the highway, but read positive reviews and thought we'd give it a try. Well worth it! It was absolutely delicious, authentic, and very reasonably priced.

The food was OK, but the service was terrible. I was there at about 12:30, there were 4 tables inside and two outside and we could not flag down one of the 5 wait staff for a refill. All of the employees looked like they hated life.

Dirty, awful place. You couldn't pay me to eat here. Bland, typical cheap food. I grew up in California I know what REAL Mexican food is.

I'm glad I stopped off the highway in Newton, Iowa, for tacos at this place. Highly recommend the Carnitas; they're not only good for Iowa, they're just plain good for anywhere. Friendly service and super affordable. This will be one of my stops between Wisconsin and Colorado from now on. (You need to ask for onions, cilantro, and lime, and they will bring out a nice plate of salsas if you speak to them in Spanish.)

Just stopped by on our way through Iowa again. Loved our meal. Shared a shrimp quesadilla and a chile rellano special. Very good. Thanks!

Just had a great dinner. La Cabana has a vegetarian section on its menu which I love, great Margaritas & sopapillas like clouds of honey cinnamon. We travel through here every year & always stop. My husband is a carnivore & likes it to. Just get here early by 5:30 today there was a line out the door.

Personally, Mexican food is not my first choice or seventh. But I also know, any time I go back to Newton - it is one of the only good choices for non-chain food. Chips and salsa - good. Not chunky - the way I like it. I ordered the grilled steak and chicken - and... it was delicious. My girlfriend ordered the vegetable fajitas - and... they were delicious. Wide variety of vegetables seasoned and cooked properly. The pico/salsa was very mild. If you are in Newton, and not just driving through (see my review of Prairie Gas if you are just driving through, they have deli sandwiches) this is the place to get some grub.

Excellent, authentic Mexican...very inexpensive, BIG portions, authentic, fresh food. You can't ask for more.

Really great Mexican food! The service is super fast (even when the restaurant is packed). The prices are pretty cheap. The great thing is the food is inexpensive, delicious, and you get a lot of it. I drive to La Cabana from twenty miles away just because it is so good.
