Certainly in the running for the best sandwich shop in the state. This place would be a solid sandwich shop in a major city, to find it in Marshalltown is an absolute gem. Meats and cheeses are fresh and flavorful, but it's really the sauces and spices that make this place stand out. The only thing that isn't fantastic is the bread, but the rest of their offering is so good that it doesn't bring it down. The fact that you can get a good sized sandwich for 5 dollars, or a huge one for 8, makes this place an absolute steal.

This place is super awesome, needed lunch in Marshalltown and checked my handy yelp app and this place caught my eye. Glad it did because this place rocks, hand made deli sandwiches and unsandwiches (no bread) sliced and built right in line. Super fresh and tasty subs. Large loaves of bread stuffed with all kinds of unique and regular combinations, get there as soon as possible!! You will not go back to the chain sub shops again in Marshalltown at least.

I'm from Minneapolis and have family in marshalltown and I have to come to this place every time I'm in town! Best subs ever.

Fricking awesome!! I don't go often, but when I do they always remember what I order!!! And it's a ton of food for one person. Everything is great about it. Never had a bad sub and cheaper than subway or jimmy johns. The best!!!

Great bang for your buck. Cheaper than Subway or Jimmy Johns and you get a bigger sandwich. They also have salad versions if all their subs which is called a sub in a tub. The meats and cheeses are freshly sliced right in front of you. The staff is great too.

I can't argue with all the 5 star ratings here. Sub City is ridiculously good! First off, the sandwiches are huge. I made the mistake of ordering the full just for the heck of it. Needless to say I had enough there for that days lunch and the next. Seriously their full sandwich is about 18" long and about 5-6 inches wide. Nothing compared to Subway or Jimmy John's. Next, the meats and cheeses are sliced fresh right in front of your eyes. Nothing is pre-portioned like other sub joints. You get to watch them grab each block of cured meat from the fridge and thrown on the slicer. Add on the works for toppings and have them spread some of their home made pepper relish on it and you have a masterfully crafted submarine sandwich to be proud of. The only downfall of the place is that they don't take credit/debit cards. It's hard to find places like this that take the time to do everything right.

This is a Marshalltown staple just like Zeno's and Taylor's. I happen to work within spitting distance so I visit on a fairly frequent basis. The bottom line here is there is no better value sandwich for your dollar in town...period. Since I have what the doctor calls "a little bit of a weight problem" I'm a fan of their "Sub in a Tub" which is basically a sandwich without the bread...a.k.a. a salad. I still enjoy porking out on a carb loaded 1/2 #23 on wheat with pepperjack instead of provolone on occasion though. Sub City is a no-frills straight up sandwich shop. The line can get quite long around the noon hour but that should tell you something.

I agree this place is Great! #25 with peppered instead of boiled, works, cherrys, mamma's, and Russian.

It should be difficult to ever make a bad sandwich -- meat, cheese, and veggies between bread. Simple. Yet, many sandwich shops fail. There is night and day difference in sandwiches from cheap franchises to expensive "gourmet" sandwich shops... and often I think the cheap places are better. Sub City impressed me for the value for the money. The "small" sandwich was huge, and many choices were available. It reminded me of Manhattan Deli in Des Moines, but I think I liked the openness of this location better. Was this combination of meat and bread better than similar stuff at Subway or Quiznos? It seemed to be. When given the choice, I have no reason to go to any of the franchise sandwich shops in Marshalltown. The price was similar, and the portions were generous. No complaints. I will be back.

Quite simply the best Sub Shop I have ever been to. At noon there may be a line but it flows quick. This is a no frills resturant, you wont get any stimulating decore but you will get a great Sub sandwich at a great price.

First off huge subs for the dollar! Now first impressions, when I walked up to this place I was oh man this place looks like a shite hole, but I decided to go in due to yelp's 5 star rating by 3 people. Inside this place was cold. It was winter but dang it felt like 60 deg in there so I took the sub to go. To me the sub was slightly better than a Goodcents or Subway with double meat except for one thing way bigger for the dollar! I can't recommend getting off the highway and driving to the middle of the town to get this but if your in town go there it is a decent sub. Just remember order half the size you would normally get anywhere else.

I love sandwiches, always have. This place has the best sandwiches I've ever had hands down. Of course it's in a small town in Iowa. Not only have I craved sub city sandwiches since I first had one a few months ago, but they are the cheapest I've been to. Last time I was there I got a half sub (bout the size of a footlong at subway) a drink, a t-shirt (yeah I did) and gave the guy a tip and still only paid $15.79. Ridiculiously awesome. Best bread I've had. Go there or you're an idiot.

If you are from out of town, you need to visit Sub City. They make the subs fresh right there in front of you. Not like subway fresh but like, slice the meat as you order type fresh. They don't skimp on the toppings and being that they about double the size of a subway sub, they are exceptionally priced...$7-$8 for a foot long that you will most likely have to save some for later. You will always find a line here during lunch and dinner times but it moves fast and is extremely well worth it. #25 is my favorite on a garlic herb wrap accompanied by the Sweet hot pepper sauce. For first timers, when you first walk in, look to your right for the large white board where you will find a list of #'d subs. Order by number, not by description.
