Love, love, love this place!!! I follow a very strict diet, and the staff is always extremely helpful and accommodating. (They go way above and beyond!) I, personally, love the salsa. The portions are always a large amount for the money, enough for a lunch the next day. I highly recommend the veggie fajitas!

  • Nick L.

No, no, no....oversized portions which isn't all bad but the fact that they recycle and reuse their salsa is disgusting. Found used straw wrappers in our salsa twice. ..Buyer beware

I recently moved to Marion and miss my good Mexican food .I read the reviews a decided to try it out .bad service my wife ordered a burrito that looked more like a taco no filling s no taste . I ordered a mixed combo with chicken, rib eye, pork , and sausage. Mine was ok.it was supposed to come with rice and beans .beans with were flavor less rice was under cooked .but had to ask the server about them to get it. After the food came out we were never asked how the food was.i will not go back , it was not good food I do not recommend this place.

Best Margarita selection around. The owner "knows" tequila and will chat you up if you sit at the bar. Food is good. Check back regularly for the tequila of the month. The gold margarita and the barrel option are nice for variety. House margarita is the best!

  • Joe R.

This place rocks!!!! The barrel marg is off the chain. I always order the mole enchiladas and it's never failed me. I take friends here all the time (I go once a week or more) and they're never disappointed. Very reasonably priced and the staff is fast, friendly and helpful. Best Mexican in CR/Marion hands down.

Once one the best Mexican restaurants in the area, Villa's Patio has fallen a long way down in quality. Two recent visits has convinced me to cross it off my list of recommended Mexican restaurants. My most recent visit included a watered down limeade based Margarita with alcohol that had not a hint of tequila taste. The salsa was tasteless and watered down as well. Our entrees were mediocre, of poor quality, and served cold after a 20 minute wait. One of the entrees, a chicken quesidilla, consisted of shredded bad tasting chicken, ... and a chicken bone. Not recommended.

We found this place based on online reviews. It was a bit off the path of hwy 380, but well worth the 5 min jaunt! The food was wonderful -- chicken mole enchiladas, tostadas, guacamole, burritos -- all delicious. Our whole party was happy with their meals. My only complaint: it's three hours away from my hometown!

Very nice Mexican restaurant great for kids with quick turn around. If you are in the Twin Cities go to Acapulco for a similar experience and bill. I recommend this place.

Great place...the food is fast and cheap...order anything with the PORK...it is the best...the owner is great and friendly...would love it if they would put any other sport on the tv other than soccer...any other sport....haha....go there all the time for a reason...great place always friendly and relaxing...it can get pretty full though but that is due to the reasons I listed above...

Big fan of Mexican food!! Villa's Patio is great. Not as authentic as El Perico.... down the street.. but still very good. Great margaritas... usually really strong. Service is good but can get slow during their busy times. Good lunch specials. Try the carne asada or the grande quesadilla (stuffed with about 1/2 pound of steak or chicken). Salsa is great.. with just a little kick... if you want more heat just ask!!

My favorite mexican restaurant- if not my favorite restaurant in the entire area. The service is always quick and the food is so consistent and delicious. I also love the prices. My husband and I could walk out of there easily under $20 (with no alcohol beverages). I have been going to Villa's since they opened several years ago and have had no bad experience to speak of. I also LOVE their Villa's Gold Margaritas.

Jeez, this is tough... It's the Christmas season and I wanted to give Villa's at least a four, but the idea is to be as accurate as possible. This restaurant is certainly okay, but the food I had just didn't shine. Pros: The interior is beautiful and a great place to take a date. Most of what I had was decent. The steak and shrimp in the fajitas tasted delicious. The salsa was pretty good though quite mild - perfect for those who can't take the heat.. I asked for salsa picosa (spicy) and it was a bit hotter but definitely very flavorful Cons: Here is one huge pet peeve - the sour cream was extremely thin and dripped off my fork. It tasted as if thinned down with milk. I had ordered the Texas fajitas and the chicken tasted old, tough, and possibly reheated. My dish was served in an aluminum skillet which was not hot enough to keep the food piping hot. Fajitas should be served on sizzling, smoking, cast iron skillets. The beans were foamy and flavorless, kind of like when we Americans put way too much water in the mashed potato flakes... mushy. Worse yet, the beans and rice were cold when served. There were two different colors of chips in the basket. The lighter ones were crisp and fresh and the darker ones tasted very stale. Overall, I was a little disappointed. Rather than stars I would rather grade Villa's Patio as a C plus but not quite a B minus. I eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants and some have set the bar pretty high. Nonetheless, I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying Villa's. It's okay. I would go there again.. When I do, I might just upgrade the rating. They deserve a second chance.

If we go out for Mexican food, this is where we always come. They just did a little remodeling with some new booths, tables, and with it, improved the salsa tremendously! It is delicious and doesn't have that ketchup-y taste to it anymore. Hooray! My usual order is a peach margarita(s) and carnitas, but I may need to mix it up a bit as BF has ordered some tasty looking dishes lately... Service is always friendly!

I've eaten here many times. They are pretty consistent with their food. Typical tex-mex food. Try anything with pork, its their best offering.

I wasn't that impressed with this place we had a big group and we got stuck off to the side with a exit door that a lot of people kept going in and out of, it was pretty cold in there. The salsa wasn't bad but the chips were cold. As for the rest of the food it was just OK, I'd rather go to El perico. I do like the wood Mexicans there's one standing by the front door inside and one outside.

Super generic Mexican food. Pick your vessel: tortilla, hard shell taco, flautas. I wish they had more authentic menu choices like carnitas or posole . Their salsa is similar to jarred salsa. Order four different things in the menu and chances are they'll all look and taste about the same. There are lots of things on the menu, but if you look carefully it's really just a whole bunch of combinations of the same food items.

Chips always taste as if they have been fried in rancid oil. I would avoid eating here.

This is the best Mexican food in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area, as far as I'm concerned. I can't even count how many times I've eaten here, but I'm pretty certain I've had every single item on their extremely large menu at least once (it became kind of a personal challenge). My favorites are the shrimp a la diabla (nice and spicy), the chile verde (the pork they use is first rate, big tender chunks, also found in dishes like carnitas), and their seafood fajitas (fajitas cozumel? Not sure if that's what they call it). It's all good though. Even though they have a large menu they still retain the quality in each dish, nothing seems slapped together or like something they threw on the menu just to have. The raw materials they use seem to be top quality and the flavor is definitely there. The margaritas are tasty and plenty strong, and come in a wide variety of sizes. If I had a nickel for every time I said "Jumbo on the rocks no salt" while at Villa's...

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
