My husband and I went today. We both ordered a cheese rite basket, a small order of cheddar cheese balls and one soft drink. We were shocked that it was $26.00. We could've went somewhere else for the money that would've been way better food. Last time I was there was 6 years ago and it was real good. Today the meat had no taste

Awful experience. I went to maid rite expecting nostalgic memories of Marion past, but instead I got a shocking glimpse of poor management. I got seated right away but I ordered a cheese rite basket, drink and a shake. Now I understand that a shake is going to run 4-5 dollars. That's to be expected. But I did not expect to pay 8.75 for a small cheese rite and onion rings. Way too expensive for what I got. Then the soda was 2.25 on top of the overpriced sandwich basket. This place does not understand the value of my money. I won't be going there again.

Wow... when you say you're going to split a tenderloin, they ask you what you want on your half! That is service. And the pie.....oh, the pie. I long to return for another piece of that Toll House Pie. I didn't even miss the Maid Rite. I wonder what they taste like.........

Good old fashioned style food. The atmosphere feels greasy and dirty. I prefer their other location at the mall food court over this. Their toll house pie is really really good.

I tried Maid-Rite years ago at another location. I loved it then with the loose meat bison I had ordered. This time I took my three year old grand daughter and let her try some fried cheese and cheese fries. She didn't eat much of either, but preferred the onion rings and fried cauliflower I had gotten when she dipped it in ranch dressing. The onion rings are best I have ever had, Paper thin, not overly greasy. You can save the leftover onion rings to top casseroles, burgers or salads. They taste great cold out of the refrigerator a couple days later even. We had gone in after viewing a play at the nearby Giving Tree theater and had not looked at the time. They said nothing to indicate I had arrived 5 minutes before closing. No one was resentful or hateful at all. The wait staff were super fun and friendly and very patient with my grand daughter who decided to poke the waitress while I was giving our order. Even when I went to pay the bill, they offered a tootsie roll pop to my grand daughter after asking me if it was okay. Such nice people! The cheese fries were only so-so. Crinkle cut with some shredded cheese melted on top. Something you could make at home yourself with frozen fries. The cauliflower and onion rings were perfect though. I had to take my grand daughter to the restroom and it was very nicely decorated and the cleanest one I have ever seen in a lower priced restaurant. I said something to them about it and they told me they have a woman who comes after hours to clean for them and she also decorated the restroom. They have a map on the wall for out of town guests to put a pin where they live. There is also a guest book for out of town guests to sign. People have come from all over the country to eat here. I also love the photos and business cards under the glass tops on the tables. I think it shows they are very focused on who their customers are and want them to feel important. To sum up, cauliflower bites and onion rings are to die for, cheese fries and cheese bites are meh, bathroom was spotless and staff was extremely patient and friendly and people-focused decor.

Ordered a combo meal and paid close to 10 dollars!! Portions are small, buns are white and too soft for a meat sandwich. Onion straws were greasy and cold. Interior is drab and depressing. I'm all for supporting an Iowa tradition, but make the food something worth while. Nothing special about the food or atmosphere. The exterior is really cool for the Marion location, but once you step inside its like walking into grandmas house that hasn't been remodeled in 60 years. Suggestions: overhaul the interior, bake your own buns, NEVER serve old side items, have reasonable prices, and consider seasoning the meat more.

I have eaten here for years and can't find a better loose meat sandwich anywhere. My friend from out of town don't miss eating here. And the owners and staff are super friendly.

The size of the meal is never worth the price of their food. They have some neat things to look at though.

I tend to eat here at least once a month. The waitresses are always nice. Maidrite and tenderloins are yummy. Try the pies! Not much to look at inside. But it certainly has a bit of charm. I recommend them.

When you want to be bad in a very good way, this is where you go in Marion. The food is typical Maid-Rite -- loose meat sandwiches, waffle fries, onion rings, tenderloins, cheese sticks and so-forth. The absolute best thing on the menu are the onion rings, which are thin, crispy and served in heaping piles. The atmosphere in the diner is absolutely Small Town, America. Under glass tabletops you'll find local business cards, concert tickets, photos, napkin drawings and a wide assortment of just about everything flat enough to fit. The walls are decorated with various awards, Chamber notations, photos of the family that runs the business and homemade signs. Don't expect to get in and out fast, but do expect to leave full and satisfied.

There's a sign in the front that reads: "Hot Beer Lousy Food Bad Service" While the service wasn't outright bad, it wasn't exactly the model of excellence either. It was inbetween, but I noticed they were really good to the people who show up regularly--so I can't rip them on that. I can appreciate a business that takes care of its regular customers. But the food? I don't care that it's made as soon as you order it and so it takes longer (seriously, this is written at least four times on their menu in large, bold print)--I care about the quality, the part this restaurant is apparently at peace with overlooking. The cole slaw is an awful hybrid of mayo and vinegar based and very, very obviously re-thawed. Not fresh at all. It's also served in a styrofoam bowl, which--fun fact: styrofoam contain carcinogens and a neurotoxin, so in addition to upping your chances of getting Type-2 Diabetes by eating here, you now can add cancer and damage to your nerve cells! The Maid-Rite is basically a bastard child of a mutilated meat patty put on your bun and covered in grease; also, very poor quality of meat. And the BBQ Pork sandwich is awful; there's no flavor in the pork and the sauce is bland. So, sure, it's a homey restaurant and it's local--but when they say "lousy food," they're not screwing with you. It's pretty bad. Especially when you pay $14.45 for what amounts to a meal you could've microwaved at home.

Maid Rites and tenderloins mmmm! I grew up in Marion, so I have fond memories of this place over the years. Every time I come back for a visit, this place is on my list! If you didn't grow up in Iowa, you might not know what a Maid Rite is. Basically it is a loose hamburger meat sandwich - sloppy joe without the sauce. The meat is only lightly seasoned, but most people load it up with ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, etc. Tenderloins in Iowa are not a small affair. If you can't see at least a good inch of meat extending outside of the bun, then you went the wrong place. These tenderloins are the real deal. Their regular or waffle fries are okay, but the onion rings (really strings) are divine. Look on their website for a menu and coupons.

Having married into an Iowa family, part of my Iowa bucket list included a trip to Marion for an authentic Maid-Rite. Being from the Northeast and living in Arizona, I had never heard of a Maid-Rite, but I was not disappointed! The flavor of the meat was great, loved the rules regarding ketchup and the fried onion "rings" were delicious. Clearly not diet food, but when in Rome!

Hands down this is the best Maid-Rite of the entire chain, and the only restaurant I try to eat at when visiting family (I now live in Portland, Oregon). If you try nothing else, be sure to order the onion rings. They're paper thin, come piled high, and I've yet to find another restaurant that serves 'em up this way.

Something else I miss about CR - oh man - Ohio does not have Maid Rites!!!!! It's a travesty- it's always a stop when I come home. The Marion location is the best in town.
