Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Excellent mexican food no matter to what other similar places you compare it to be it Arizona or California. The qquesadilla was outstanding and the tacos , try the ones with tongue they are delicious, as well. Great value also. Thank you. PS-Went there again today. Well balanced fajita with great quality meat. The fish soup that I ordered for home was simply delicious. Great people offering an excellent food for a good price.

Excellent food and margaritas. Service is a little slow so don't expect to be in and out in a hurry. It's a great place to take some time, sit, talk, and drink a marg, and when your food does come out, you won't be disappointed.

The food is outstanding. Some of the best Mexican food since I moved here from California. I usually end up getting the carnitas tacos and/or the beef chimichanga. The tortas and enchiladas are also very good. Prices are fair. Not cheap, but not expensive, either. My only complaint is that sometimes the service is a bit slow. Not always, just sometimes. I'll give it 5 stars anyway.

Wow - I live in Chicago and go to plenty of great Mexican restaurants and kind of expected this place to be more like a Carlos O'Kelly's or something, but no, the food here is authentic - they've got Mexican soap operas on the TV or soccer or NFL. I got a roasted pork dish that was fabulous, and a chorizo taco which was great.

In Spanish the word manana means tomorrow. That's about how long you'll wait when you place an order for food here. If you have plenty of time, the food is quite good despite the lack of trained servers. Apparently the servers work all of the tables as you are barraged by constant checking to see if everything is ok by three different individuals, sometimes forgetting that you're waiting for food, not your bill )because you've been waiting for so long). Prices are reasonable and the favors are very authentic Mexican. Portions are generous and you certainly won't walk away hungry if you don't die of starvation waiting for the kitchen to prepare your meal.

Best Mexican we've had so far in the Cedar Rapids area.

If your mom was Mexican I'm thinking that this is how she'd cook. Really good food and friendly service; they make you feel welcome and that is so important. If you haven't learned that you can't tell a good restaurant from the outside then you've missed some really good food. El Perico fits in this category. A combination restaurant and store that really works. After a great meal you can stop by the store on the way out and pickup some tasty Horchata mix. If you are daring you can try one of the many selections for meat.

Try the tortilla soup. Don't order anything else; it's huge. Worth the wait.

We were the first table seated for lunch and it took longer than you would normally expect to get your food, but if you have the time it's worth the wait(complimentary chips and salsa help). Chicken chorizos were very tasty. I'll definitely be going back.

In my opinion, this is the best Mexican restaurant the Cedar Rapids area has to offer. Don't let the size fool you, this place has the best Mexican food in the area. The salsa alone is worth going there. The burritos are really good and they are HUGE. The little shop next to the seating area that sells imported items from Mexico is kind of cool. You can find all kinds of things that you don't normally find at the local Walmart or Hyvee. Its fun watching the Univision Mexican soap operas on the televisions. Its just the two owners, a cook, and sometimes their two daughters helping out, so sometimes the service is a little slow, but they have a lot to handle; be patient with them.

Best Margaritas anywhere! Food was delicious and reasonably priced. I'd say it was authentic but I probably wouldn't know authentic if it bit me in the butt.
