The food is great but this place needs a little updating best place in town but thats not saying much

This is the best place in Keokuk?! Well there's not much competition, and comparatively, it is probably one of the best, but I think this place still loses. There are MUCH worse places in town at which can waste your money. It's not bad by any means, but it's predictable, bland, and boring. The food is Sysco junk, the same kind of junk you can get at a diner. Nothing is particularly bad here, but nothing is particularly good either. The ambiance isn't even that great. It seems more like a event center; there are even a few long folding tables. Service each time we've been has been ....adequate. And they roll your food out on a plastic cart. I understand it's safer, perhaps, and the wait staff doesn't have to carry everything, but at least get a nicer cart. I don't really know what you're paying for here, because it's not the food, the experience, or the ambiance. Kick it up a notch Hawkeye.

This seems to be the place to go for a "nice dinner" for a wide area around Keokuk. It's fine, but I think it is considerably overpriced and under quality for what they are trying to accomplish.

Brought the family this time. The wife got the Sunday meal of Fried chicken breast with salad bar and desert. I got the homemade chicken cordon blu. The kids menu filled up my little girl. This was as good as it was 10 years ago when we lived down here. The only problem was two waitresses where arguing out in the open. Take it to the back please. That was the only reason for the loss of a star.

We love this place. Their kids menu is great and filling, their adult options are great as well. The citrus salmon is absolutely my favorite. Also their bacon wrapped jalepeno chicken bites appetizer is delicious as well. Their waitress Sarah is by far the BEST server in any restaurant around this area and they are truly lucky to have her. We have had her a couple times and she makes our experience 100 times better which is good already. If you read this, ask for Sarah as your server, you won't regret it!

Waited about 7 minutes to be seated. No one was in here eating besides maybe 3 people at 2 different tables,so the wait was unnecessary. 3 workers walked by us while we were waiting to be seated. First off there weren't any "food" smells. 2nd we were seated in the bar area, which should have been a fun experience, but wasn't. Ordered Lemonade for drinks, wasn't very tasteful, like a weak unsweet lemon flavored water. We ordered Potato Skins, I posted a pic. A gross burnt greasy mess with a horrible tasting seasoning! A cross between chili and taco seasoning! Hubby ordered Wisconsin Cheddar soup. Was ok. Kinda oily and watery. Flavor was pretty good. Hubby ordered the Ribeye. Over cooked and tough. I ordered Prime Rib. Pretty much the 2nd worst PR Ive had. It was tough! And was such a low quality of beef. It was pretty bad. I also posted pics of our steaks. Baked potato as my side actually under cooked, hubby had Cheese Mashed potatoes, cheese only on top. High prices with low quality food. Waitress was slow!! And never checked on us. No drink refills, and no extra napkins. Very mismanaged. And the ambiance is about as exciting as a nursing home cafeteria. Im from Oklahoma btw, and we went and had Ogo's Chicken buffet, and it way way out does Hawkeyes! Better food better service and $7.99 a person instead of about $30 a person.

The bar is inviting and comfortable. The service is friendly and the clientele is easy to talk to. When I am in town for business I usually choose the Hawkeye for two reasons: 1) It is nextdoor to the Fairfield Inn and Hampton Inn, and 2) the food is trustworthy. I have not had a bad meal here. I have ordered items that I will not order again, but what are you going to do? At this point, nothing on the menu jumps out at me. I know the food will be fine, but not great. I will keep returning to the salad bar, which is always average. Tuesday and Thursday nights are 2-for-1 beer and Wednesday is 2-for-1 Carona and Dos Equis. Truth be told, I have experienced better - not in Keokuk.

Great salad bar. Food and beer is way overpriced.

I'm visiting Keokuk on business, I travel often, but it's my first time here. I found out about this restraraunt via Yelp!, the reviews were mixed, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but kept an open mind. I ordered the Ground Sirloin and it was terrible. There was no seasoning on the steak at all, and I mean this honestly, it's the worst steak I've had in a decade. Not only was it tasteless, but I ordered it medium and it was certainly well-done. On the bright side, I ordered mozzarella sticks and they were really good... But I suppose it's pretty simple to drop them in a deep fryer. The service was mediocre, nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about either. The ambience was bland, I expect more with a name like "Hawkeye", especially being an Iowa. There's not many options in Keokuk, so who knows, maybe I'll give them another shot.

Driving into Iowa on a road trip from the east, first place I come to is Keokuk, and here's a restaurant named for the Iowa state emblem, so I figure it'll be bursting with Iowa patriotism, right? So I wind up having a chicken-fried steak, a dish I associate with the southwest, with Wisconsin cheese soup. It was perfectly all right, nothing memorable nor bad, but not what I'd think of as Iowan. And, hey, a side of corn, which I do think of Iowan, which wasn't notably fresh or tasty, but it was April, which isn't really corn season.

This place just isn't very good. Tried it 3 times now and not going back. If you want a good salad bar then go across the street. If you want to wait 20 minutes for your food to arrive cold then eat here.

I tried the Jerk Grilled Chicken Sandwich on a Ciabatta Bun with a side of Vegetable Medley. It was delicious. My spouse reported that her Chicken FrIed Steak was freshly-prepared, not out of a box. There are many other promising items on the menu that we hope to try on future visits. Worth a side trip off Highways 61 & 218.

We picked a great night to come back here. They had a great jazz band playing big band music! Dinner was good too. Husband had the chicken cordon bleu special, and I had bacon-wrapped shrimp. Both were very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly (despite the large crowd here to see the band).

Local favorite! People rate this place low so that their wait time won't be as long! And so that you are led to believe its terrible so you won't go. One of Keukuk's gems.

I travel to Keokuk once a year on business. The food and service here used to be exceptional. Unfortunately, my experiences with Hawkeye have only gotten worse over the past few years. The food is at least edible, but the wait is unacceptable and the servers don't often visit your table more than absolutely necessary. A drive into Quincy or Burlington is worth the extra time if your looking for good grub. Don't bother with Hawkeye.

The service was great. We were seated promptly. Food came out fast and hot. Drinks were always full. Food was good but over-priced for the quality.

Three of us dined. They are well-known for steak and fried stuff. Our waitress was dilligent and friendly, but our cook was rather slow with cooking. So, we waited for awhile for food. Salad bar was average. Anyway, I ordered blackened grouper, and others ordered beef burger and reuben sandwich where were just ok. Let me tell you my grouper. The fillet was thin as a piece of paper, and was overly seasoned. it was cooked only one side. I had to use KNIFE to cut it. The taste was awful. I should have gone to a junk yard to get a piece of rubber tire in stead. So, please do not order the grouper. You will be very disappointed. However, fried catfish and steak looked very good. Make sure you take a bottle of Tums.....

"Poop on a plate" that's how one of the people I was with described their beef tips. The service was poor and prices were higher than the menu we reviewed sitting inside the door. I went to hawkeyes with a group of six and no one finished their plate. The group was split between a 1 or 2 stars. Two people ordered the beef tips and both were over cooked. Additionally, the bed of rice was hard and tasted like oats. Another person in our group had fish and is was burnt. Another person had chicken cordon bleu, he ate two bites and was done. The waitress asked if he liked it and he said no and she said ok and still charged him full price. I had a burger which had no hint of seasoning. Everyone in the group would strongly disapprove of anyone going here.

As far as resturants in Keokuk Ia, go, this is about as good as it gets. The food is ok if not a little high priced. But like I said, where else you going to go? Mickey D's? The fair is not what you would expect. The pork chop is pretty good as is the bacon wrapped shrimp.
