I like the food from Texas Roadhouse but I find the atmosphere highly obnoxious simply because it's loud and the restaurant is poorly designed to accommodate people. There is a very narrow walkway between the to-go desk, host stand and four feet away is a prep area where the staff pickup these appetizer rolls. My number one complaint about this place is this gauntlet of people all trying to get seated, pick-up to-go food and staff buzzing around in a very small space. Once you're seated the music and everything else is very loud and their birthday song is very annoying and you'll hear it several times. Because of all of this I always get my food to-go. Generally the staff tries to do their best to get things moving in an efficient manner. I've generally have good service for dine-in. When ordering to-go there is a recording on the phone that sounds like it was recorded by a rodeo clown who's suffered brain damage. Make sure that when you get food to go you inspect everything especially condiments and sides to make sure that nothing was omitted because that can happen from time to time. Out of 10 times eating there in the past year the food was great 8 out of those 10 times. In all the food and service is pretty good but the place isn't managed or designed very well it's one of those places I think to myself "I love your product but hate your store".

I love this place! It's been my family's go to restaurant for birthdays and special occasions for years. Service is usually polite, fast and consistent. If you are looking for a fun, casual place to take your family to eat, this is it! If you are looking for a place to wind down and drink huge margaritas, then this place is for you, too! My favorite go to food is the buns and yummy butter, pulled pork and steak!

We have eaten at several TR restaurants and usually enjoy the food and service. This TR in Johnston had cold food, cremated ribs and slow service. We would go back to a Texas Roadhouse, but not to this one. We were not even approached by management when we complained.

Super busy location even at 3pm. I was surprised that we were able to be seated right away with a party of 5. First location I have seen that didnt have peanut shells all over the place. Felt very welcomed and comfortable here. I decided to be different and order fish at a steak place. I wasn't sure what I should be expecting, but I was very surprised at how delicious it was. I ordered the grilled salmon and became instantly very impressed with whoever cooked it. It was light and flakey and seasoned tasty. :-) Even the mixed veggies were seasoned well. I'm from out of town, but I would return if for any reason I'm ever here again.

When I travel, I like to try some of the local favourites. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Texas Roadhouse was in the "does not" category - twice. Because it is across the parking lot from the hotel, I tried it once and decided to give it another shot- neither times did it turn out good. The place is packed and noisy, so locals must find something about this place that I don't see. I ate at the bar because that's all the room they had, fine I actually don't mind. First night was their famous ribs... Horrible. Extremely salty, they had clearly been marinated in brine but somebody forgot the rinsing step. This is the first time in my life I can't finish a slab of ribs and had to decline when offered a "box" for the second half. Next day I went with the pulled pork. Now that was edible but seriously dry. Both days though the chilly was outstanding, with just enough bite but not on fire, loaded with cheese and onions, and meaty. That was the only redeeming quality of the place, and service at the bar was good, although the waitress there did not know what a Malbec was... I went with a Sam Adams, playing it safe. Maybe their steaks are great - don't know and not really interested in finding out.

It is chain restaurant, but it's one of my go to places for a decent priced steak meal. You can't beat a ribeye steak and two sides for 15.99! Plus the bread with cinnamon butter is delicious. Blooming onion is pretty good and cheap here too. Service has always been fast and consistent. Be prepared to wait if you come during dinner time.

Couldn't find the dinner entree salad on the menu that I was hoping for, so asked if they'd make me a grilled salmon salad and described what I wanted, and they were happy to do it. The salad was substantial as an entree, the salmon was perfectly cooked. It was delicious and the manager came along later to ask if they had created the salad as I liked it. Also got a baked potato to box up and take home for lunch tomorrow. Would say that the baked taters here are the best around. Other places steam your potatoes rather than bake them, but these were cooked perfectly. I knew beforehand that this place is loud, so while that is a negative when trying to converse, it isn't fair to downgrade them for that if I already know and accept it.

We save this place for those times when we want great steaks in a lively setting. There is a great energy here. It's not a place for a romantic candlelight dinner -- it's a chain restaurant full of bravado, great service and great food.

I'm sorry, but no matter when I come the food is always good. Of course I don't switch it up to much but from the moment we walk in it's a up beat atmosphere, lots of food and pleasant people. Tonight the sirloin was spot on! Rare, perfect, fries extra crispy and bread with ranch delicious. Thanks for the leftovers! See ya next time.

My first time here I sent back my steak and it still wasn't right but everything else was awesome. My 2+ times my steak was great. Their "crack rolls" are sinfully good and the mango margarita is my fave!

Been to many before, and being we have nothing like it in the NW were I'm from, I always jump at the chance to eat their rolls! That butter is amazing! Tonight's dinner of Prime Rib was impressive! Great portion and flavor. The plating was sloppy....but its about flavor right?...okay...plating does make an impression. ...howevee it tasted much better than the nearby Machine Sheds version I had a few nights prior. It is very loud. Expect that. (I did). Will I return to Texas Roadhouse's in the future? Heck yes...those rolls! Do I ever expext a lot? No..but that's okay, the food's what counts. Also...this location is very busy! Call ahead to be put on the list (they do not take reservations), or do as I did...and pick a weeknight and enjoy a late dinner!

Great if you want a cheap tough steak in a very loud bar like atmosphere this place is for you. I have been here on three occasions and I'm always disappointed. Our first visit my wife ordered a medium rare rib eye steak and received a prime rib. She promptly complained when it came and the waitress seemed confused!? We have never picked here to eat and never will. Cheap doesn't equal good.

One of my favorite places! I always order the pulled pork with the baked potato. We order the onion blossom as the appetizer. The food is always hot and I'm obsessed with the baked potato. It comes with good cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and butter. Terrible for you, I know. The staff is always nice. The rolls they give you when you come in with the buttered cinnamon are awesome! I always take extras home. The only downfall is they need another one, this place is always busy. I suggest going early or calling to make a reservation or you could have an hour long wait.

We left called in a reservation Showed on time could not get in the door. If you like loud and like to wait you'll love this place

Texas Roadhouse is an absolute must eat at restaurant. The hospitality and warmness of the staff matches the quality of the food exactly. Right when you open the door you can tell this is a very homey like place. There is a large barrel filled with peanuts to enjoy while you wait for a table. The portions are quite large as well and definitely affordable. My girlfriend and I usually end up splitting one of the Texas size combos, they're that big! The steaks are always cooked excellently and are very juicy. It's a great idea to call ahead to reserve seats as the place is almost always packed.

Friendly service, good food and unbeatable price. This was my first exposure to a Texas Roadhouse and it was great! For $20 I had a large frozen margarita, steak, salad and side. The rolls come with cinnamon spiced butter which makes it a real treat! All meat besides the t-bone is cut in house. It wasn't the best steak I've ever had but for the price and the friendly staff it was well worth it!

Always busy on weekends so call ahead. Ordered a medium sirloin and got it pretty bloody rare. Mashed potatoes were meh at best. Mixed vegetables were also nothing special. Beer was cold and good selection of it. Free peanuts always a plus. If you want quiet dinner this isn't the place for it.

Food is always amazing! We started going here because it came highly recommended by some friends. Unfortunately the service is terrible. Three different times we have tried giving it another shot and the waitresses always seem to be in a bad mood/are just awkward in general. Still might be willing to give in another try for the sake of amazing food though!

I personally hate this place....food is sub par and 3 hour wait for there food is rediculous. Been there twice and I know the place was packed over capacity. Almost called the fire marshall. Sure they give you free peanuts but you eat so many that by the time you get your table your not hungry anymore. I dont recomend it.

This place is very consistent. Food and service is always good. They are known for there steaks but the salmon is one of the best in the area.

  • Jordan G.

Food is excellent and filling! I've never had any problems going to this restaurant. The wait is a little long on the weekends, but worth it! The peanuts are a nice touch, and the warm dinner rolls are superb. The ribs are to die for. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service can get slow on a Friday/Saturday night. I'm not sure if the waitstaff is stretched too thin, or the restaurant is just THAT busy (which it usually is!). It's not unbearable, and the servers are usually more than pleasant, but response time could be a tinsy bit better!

The steaks are awesome, and are seasoned so well that I never need steak sauce. My husband loves the sirloin fillet salad, and I haven't found a better caesar salad anywhere! The rattlesnake bites (appetizer) are delicious little creamy cheese and jalapeño bites. We eat there a few times a month. On Wednesday nights, the 11oz sirloin is the same price as an 8oz.

This place is the best place ever. I love love love it. Really nice place. My friends recommended it and I told my family to go there for fathers day. My family always goes to Applebees. My family said ( and I agree too) That it is better then applebees. But if I love it, why would I give it a 4 star rating? I tried the pork chops the first time. I looked inside the pork chops and it was pink. You know what that means. If its beef, that's ok, but if its pork....you could get a stomach ache. I am very mad about this, so please don't try there pork chop. I replaced the pork chop with sirloin. there sirloin is pretty good. Im very happy that they replaced the pork chop money with the sirloin money. A cheap dinner, really good food! according to what I think, Texas Roadhouse is more food then applebees, more cheaper than applebees, more better than applebees! ( and I think that Applebees is more like a bar. Not for kids. I love Texas Roadhouse. Wish they could open for lunch though.

My parents picked this place for my Mom's Birthday, they made reservations for 7:00 pm on Tuesday night. I got off work at 7:30 and went right over to meet them. I went to the hostess and told her I was meeting a party, told her the name. She informed me that they had checked in, but since the whole party wasn't present, they weren't seated. I asked her where they were? She replied, 'I don't know, the bar?' They weren't at the bar. She said about 40 minutes prior they checked in and she hadn't seen them since. I asked to speak to the management, his response was that it was company policy to not seat even with reservation if the whole party was not present. Soon after, my sister found me, they were crammed into a booth. I've never been to this restaurant, won't be going back.

WOW!!! This Texas Roadhouse has gotten it right!!! A+++ I've had a horrible experience at a TRH before... and my experience tonight changed my mind about all Texas Roadhouses! The parking lot was full, yet we were seated promptly! We were greeted with a polite smile and a cheerful attitude! The entire night our water glasses were never empty! Our food was cooked properly! And I'm VERY picky about how my steak is cooked... they got it right on! I'm very picky about how loud an establishment is... and this one has learned where the sound level needs to be!!! My wife did ask for them to turn the sound down a hair... they did more then that! The sound level of the entire restaurant lowered because of that, which made for a more enjoyable environment. I asked to speak with a high level manager, Nigel, our waitress Casey & the lady we asked to turn down the music at the same time. We thanked them all for our wonderful experience & service! If you had gone through the previous experience we had before with TRH... you can't rave enough about how wonderful THIS experience was!!! Thank You Nigel & Casey for a very enjoyable evening! We'll be back!!!

The main reason I go to Texas Roadhouse is to eat the hot rolls and sweet potato with marshmallow and caramel sauce. I have tried all of their steaks, grilled shrimp, BBQ chicken, pork chops, ribs, and fried cat fish. Their steaks are okay. They do a good job with grilled shrimp and catfish. Their rolls are not consistent; sometimes thick and doughy, sometimes light and fluffy. I like when it is light and fluffy...they are sooo good.

I have been to many Texas Roadhouse restaurants across the Midwest and this trip in Iowa didn't disappoint. The only bad thing we experienced was the wait. We did the call ahead for a large group on a Sat night so we were sort of asking for it! We ended up waiting an hour anyway so the call ahead might have saved us 10 mins vs just walking up and asking to be seated. All in all we were with good company and just hung out eating peanuts with some bar items. Once we were seated, a new waiter JUSTIN who moved down from North Dakota was spot on in taking care of our huge group. They comped us apps for waiting so long without us even asking and the drinks were full before they were empty. THE FOOD - If you are tired of eating fried bowling alley food, stop in for the filet. You won't be disappointed. Oh and if you are into bread rolls you may weep over the cinnamon buttered yeast rolls. Bring a tissue.. And a friend...eat bread Nomnomnom. I had a great visit here.

I arrived in Des Moines on Friday evening and was picked up from the airport and I knew we had to travel about an hour to my destination. I was then asked if I wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse.....well I had never even heard of it before....being from Southern Caifornia......so I said SURE and we arrived there about 9:50 p.m. The parking lot is HUGE and there were many cars there. No wait once inside for a table since it was so late...so that was good...cuz normally I heard it can up to an hour and a half wait for a table The waitress was very nice and she asked if we had ever been here before....everyone said yes. She found out I had never been here before and informed me that I could choose ANY appetizer (but the combo appetizer) for FREE....AWWWWWW~~~That's cool. We picked the Cactus Blossom~~~~ A Texas-sized onion, hand-battered, golden-fried, and served with their special Cajun Horseradish Sauce I choose a USDA Choice Sirloin steak for my entree~~~ and you can have either a 6, 8, 11, or 16 oz. size steak...I had a 8 ounce. Pretty tasty meat. All entrees are served with your choice of two sides: Baked Potato (load it with cheddar cheese and bacon) *Sweet Potato (load it with marshmallows and caramel sauce) *Cup of Chili *House Salad *Caesar Salad *Apple Sauce *Fresh Vegetables *Mashed Potatoes *Seasoned Rice *Green Beans *Baked Beans *Steak Fries I chose a house salad w/ ranch dressing...and the mashed potatoes Their are peanuts in a lil silver pail at every table to eat....and people just throw the shells on the floor when they are done. Really cool place to eat....glad I got to check it out as their are none in the Los Angeles area

The best steak in town!! Love this place. Service is always top notch and the food is always delicious. From the rolls, steak, delicious green beans, sweet potatoe, appetizers. Did I mention they have amazing drinks on the drink menu. A great place to sit at the bar for a drink or bring family and friends for dinner. This place is at the very top of my favorite list!!

  • Josh H.

We came early (right before 5pm) because we knew there'd be a line. But we got right in without a wait. Once we finished their large waiting area was packed. Ribs were awesome! The sides were great and service was fast and polite. Family friendly. The seating arrangement makes it feel like a smaller restaurant because each area is at a different level or walled off, which is kind of nice. It was a little loud, but not so much that you couldn't have a conversation without being annoyed. Will definitely be back!

Not the best steaks in Des Moines but for a chain, they are pretty darn good. My preferred cut is the ribeye and I have never had an overcooked or undercooked steak. The cut comes in three sizes to match anyone's appetite. They have a wide variety of sides, two of my favorites are the sweet potato with caramel and marshmallows and the bakes beans. I am also fond of their steak sauce, I haven't found any like it on the grocery shelves. One piece of advice, if coming for dinner, especially on the weekend, come early or use call ahead seating. It is not out of the ordinary to have up to two hour waits to get a table here on those nights.

I had a fantastic meal, eating at the bar on a busy Friday night. I just walked over from my hotel, thinking that getting a seat at 5:30pm would be no sweat...wrong. This place was paaaacked, but seats at the bar were available. My t-bone meal was delicious, topped with onions. The beers were ice cold and tasty. Service was great. And if you like Shania Twain, then this is the place for you, since they play her albums over and over and over and over and over....

Cool atmosphere here. I ordered a ribeye steak which tasted ok. The staff was very friendly and attentive the entire evening. Not the best steakhouse I've been to, but to be honest, I was expecting something a little better as I was in beef country. The peanut room to the right of the main entrance was cool. One thing I have to say is, their biscuits and maple-butter spread were awesome!!

  • Stacy L.

I eat here when I am in town on business. Mainly because I stay at the Hilton Garden Inn that shares a parking lot with the restaurant. The staff is okay. The food is good. However, the steak is never quite the right temperature. I always ask for medium. Sometimes I get medium, normally medium rare. But, I love the bucket of peanuts and the yeasty rolls.

Went here on New Year's Eve. We did call ahead seating at 5:30 and was told 45 minutes. We arrived about 6 and weren't seated until 7:20. The food was great. A manager came around and apologized and took off about 15.00 from our bill. That was a great gesture. I think we kind of got lost in the shuffle as they were incredibly busy and there were many large parties.

[***My desired rating is 4.5 stars, but that is not an option***] It doesn't matter what time of day you go here, plan on at least a 20-40 minute wait to get a seat at the Texas Roadhouse. Normally this would be considered a bad thing, but in this case, I interpret it as testament to how great this restaurant is. It's so good, everybody wants to eat here! This place is a steak lover's dream. Prepare yourself for generous cuts cooked to order, with delicious sides and bread to compliment. The honey butter that comes with the bread is amazing. And it's affordable to boot. There is a really fun atmosphere at the Texas Roadhouse. Every so often the wait staff comes out and line dances to "Cotton-Eyed Joe," and you get to toss your peanut shells on the floor. There are Willie Nelson effects posted on the walls, and the dining room's decor is convincingly southwestern. All in all, this place is a solid eating experience. On a more sober note, the wait staff's friendliness is sometimes hit or miss here. But considering the wait staff rarely gets any down time since this place is so busy, it's understandable why they wouldn't always be super chipper. Also, Texas Roadhouse is a chain restaurant, so if you are looking for a "unique" dining excursion, this isn't it. It's suburbia to the core. Despite those minor imperfections, the excellent food and carefree ambience more than compsensate. Texas Roadhouse is a restaurant everybody should try at least once.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the Texas Road House. The Texas-sized portions are generous as are the drinks. The atmosphere is "fun" - if your idea of fun is a loud crowded restaurant. The food is passable; certainly nothing gourmand, but edible. All entrees come with your choice of two sides - I had the side salad which was excellent. Full of veggies and some of the better croutons I've ever had! The female waitstaff dances around to Cotton Eye Joe every so often which I found both sexist and ageist. Perhaps that is me being a fuddy duddy - but I don't need my meals to be accompanied by jumping and dancing high school aged girls. There aren't a lot of options within walking distance of the hotel and this is one of the better choices - which isn't saying a whole lot.

  • Buzz G.

The food is just average. The atmosphere is the worst in Des Moines. Tons of kids and the staff singing happy birthday every 2 minutes. I live by this restaurant and there are always a ton of cars and people waiting outside. I don't know why.

    (2)
  • D H.

Thankfully the staff never came out and did a line dance while I was there. I have been here a couple of times and the food has been great both times. The only exception s that you had better like country music and being treated like a yokel. It can get old, but the food was good so I sucked it up and didn't tell them to kill the accent, you in Iowa!
