Have to say, would think this place is a dump, but really this place is really good. Food is always good and great staff. It's hard for me to like any place because I have very high standards for restaurants. This place is impressing me.

I heard ads for this place for years but never once tried it. Today was the day for a Philly from Pepper Jax. The time was right for me to try what I have heard about on the radio for years. So simple enough menu with good options, I went with the basic beef philly with onions, green peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and jalapenos. They toast the bun I n front of you and cook the meat in front of you as well, a philly hibachi of sorts? Haha Doesn't take too long for the food to be ready to eat. Before I sat down I stopped at their sauce bar which has tons of options, I grabbed the bold steak sauce and the pepper hot sauce. Finally take a bite and was very impressed! This did live up the radio hype for sure. The steak is very juicy, tender, well seasoned, the bread is awesome, and they did a great job of making an east coast staple. I haven't been to philly yet, so I can't compare it to them just yet but I will say this is a mighty fine philly.

Arrived for lunch at 12:10 and there were 12-15 people in line ahead of us but we were ordering in less than 10 minutes and eating in another 5. Ordering/serving lines run smoothly (if the other customers can get with the concept) and quickly. Only a few basic choices of sandwich, burrito, nachos or rice bowl but all ingredients can go on any of them. Lots of choices for toppings and several sauces provide a variety of flavors. Didn't even need a side as the sandwich was quite filling and affordable.

Addicted to these steak phillys! So juicy moist flavorful...perfect for the munchies and also super filling! Also REALLY good - the rice bowls, add salsa. Only reason I am not giving this location 5 stars is because the service can really suck sometimes. I shouldn't have to take so much attitude for coming into your place of business while you're at work. Do your jobs and stop eye rolling customers when they want to order something other than a philly!

Fast casual restaurant. Sandwich I had was extremely salty. While otherwise ok flavored, I think not a very good value for what I paid for lunch. Sandwich fries and a drink pushes $11 and there are better places to eat nearby for that. I don't find this place to be remarkable in any way. It isn't horrible, but it is not moving into heavy rotation for me.

This place is really worth checking out. Went there for lunch with a friend and it was a good experience. The customer service here is great. My friend ordered ahead of me and shes vegetarian. When she said she wanted a veggie burrito they asked if they wanted her to scrape the grill because the cook meat on it. She said yes and they completely cleaned the grill and everyone changed gloves. They were very friendly about the process and didn't seem to mind. When I placed my order they were very friendly and patient. Its kind of interesting too, they have they're own sort of culture going on. When the guy behind me ordered a steak rice bowl with nothing on it they would say "We got a streaker" and just the way they talk between each other makes it an unique experience. The food it self was pretty darn good. I got a chicken rice bowl, and holy crap the thing was twice the size of my head. Flavorful and really enjoyed it. Also got a side of fires which were great and their barque sauce is amazing. Only real knock I have against the place is the price is a little little bit higher than one would assume. Then again, the serving sizes are pretty nice. Also my friend said she didnt think her burrito was that good for what ever reason, she said she would give the place 2/5 stars. Again, with the unique stuff they have here and the awesome customer service, it worth a try.

Been here three times now. Got philly each time. Very good. Well seasoned, good toasted bun, enough cheese. Downside - no whiz wit. You can add queso for 1.50 or so. For how much you spend on it, adding cheese whiz should be a freebie (at least have it!) Got the fries tonight. Seasoned well. However, the amount of fries received was less than expected. Girl serving the fries seemed a bit clueless. When we entered the store, everyone was cleaning - which is fine - but seemed like the place was closed (no other customers inside). Though we were quite obviously there, had to wait maybe 3 minutes before we were recognized at all. They need to work on their welcoming. In any case, I'll be back because good cheese steak is hard to find.

I've been there three times. Service was good every time. The Philly cheesesteak is wonderful and really large. Fries are good - well seasoned and a lot of them. Giant chicken burrito is a bit lacking - although, why did I order a burrito at a place that specializes in cheesesteaks? Answer: I had a coupon. Go to Panchero's if you want a burrito. If you want a cheesesteak, go to Pepperjax. BONUS: Pepperjax serves eye candy in the form of worker Darrell.

Best Philly Cheesesteak in Iowa City. Great fries. Great menu. They were a little understaffed when I was there, but they still handled the crowd very well.

Philly cheese steak sandwich made right in front of your eyes. I tried their chicken philly. Was passable but personally I prefer Capriotti's philly, or the best philly sandwich in CR found at Bigg Daddy's, because cheese is better distributed through the meat. Here they do this awkward stuffing of the meat/veggies/cheese which makes the sandwich seem top-heavy. Worth a try.
