Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Met family and friends for a pre-graduation party in May. Enjoyed the food. Big table, lots of food and drink. The young waitress took care of us but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Could have used help.

As a local Chicagoan, I have very high expectations for pizza. And when you are paying the prices that you pay at Pagliai's, I really expect the pizza to be out-of-this-world good. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I was in any way impressed with the restaurant. The service and food were very average. We started with the cheesy garlic bread, which was pretty good, but no better than any garlic bread that you could find in the frozen food section of your local grocery store. Then we ordered the shrimp alfredo pizza and the magherita pesto pizza. I was a little annoyed when ordering to realize that their sizes are much smaller than the standard pizzas. Smalls are normally 12", mediums 14", and larges 16". For what they are serving up, their prices aren't very cheap either. All their pizzas are thin crust, so I left feeling very hungry. Still, every time I walk by Pagliai's the place is pretty crowded, so the majority of people must be pretty content with the place. If you want pizza that is only slightly better than Pizza Ranch, I would say you should head to Pagliai's. But if you've had Chicago pizza before, you'll be nothing but disappointed.

There really isn't a GREAT pizza place in Grinnell. Most have bad crusts, bland sauces, and a lack of originality. Pag's doesn't really improve much on this. Their pizza is alright, nothing amazing. Everything else on their menu tastes like cafeteria food, and doesn't look much better. A great place to take your kids or soccer team, but if you're looking for a good slice of pizza, you're probably better off making your own at home. It's always SUPER busy and overcrowded, and the way the booths are set up in the main room, there really isn't space for a decent dinner conversation. Not a great place for a date.

The pizza is ok. The toppings are good. Way over priced! But when you are the only pizza place in town, people will pay it. The pizza ranch doesn't count as pizza. Sorry.

You can always count on Paglia's to make a decent pizza. It's been around since the 50's. I lived in Grinnell from '71 to '83, and when I return for a visit it is considered a mortal sin not to have Paglia's while in town. However, it isn't close to what it used to be.

Awesome pizza in Grinnell and our favorite when we visit Grandma! The taco pizza is fantastic and their home-made sausage pizza is the bomb! Love it and enjoy it every time!

Excellent pizza, nicely crusted. Cheerful service. Oh, and the only place open on a damp Saturday night in Grinnell!

Been coming here about once or twice a year for decades. We typically make a point of coming here when visiting family nearby. Pizza is consistently good, if not spectacular. Definitely the best in town. Friendly and welcoming service. The Supreme and Taco pizzas are family favorites. Always loaded with quality ingredients. Prepare for a long wait early evenings on a weekend. We waited more than an hour on a Saturday night with a party of 16, which is understandable. And we all thought it was worth the wait.

Great pizza with awesome service. I love this location and the "cozy feel" of the place. You can watch them make the pizzas through the window or at the counter. I love Pagliai's cracker-like crust and the sausage they use. It is a somewhat dimly-lit place with great music piped in through the ceiling speakers. Their prices are a tad bit on the pricey side as far as pizza places go.

The Pagliai's are personal & professional friends, so I am inherently biased. That being said, Pagliai's is QUALITY. It costs a bit more, but considering the blue-chip ingredients & authentic Italian flavors, the price is more than fair. The Pagliai's restaurants have classy interior design that's great for dates or family outings. It's a casual style eating establishment with a dark, clean elegance that makes for a unique and wonderful atmosphere for dining. I highly recommend you try Pagliai's in Grinnell, Iowa City, or Johnston.

Like Zeno's in Marshalltown, this dates back to the 50's when the first wave of pizzerias hit middle America, and it hasn't changed much since. I love this place almost as much as Zeno's - similar salty and cheesy taste, old school flat crust, square cut, with perfect sauce. Get the Supreme! They're open late by small town standards, even on Sundays! And they're off and on with delivery over the last 25 years, but currently on. A little bit overpriced, but worth it. The feminist in me doesn't like this, but it's still sorta old school cute that the local high school boys are the cooks and the girls are the waitresses. In 2011!

It's open late, which is its most important feature. The pizza itself was average; the pesto margherita was so overloaded it was soggy. The servers there are cute, so it's a definite plus.

My wife and I were in Grinnell recently and went looking for food after a late arrival in the town on a Saturday evening in July. It didn't look too promising as we walked from the college but we perked up when we saw Pagliai's and a crowd of young folks outside. We ordered the Margherita Pesto Pizza [large, 16.25] even though we thought the price a little high for a burg in Iowa. Imagine our surprize when we got it from the friendly wait staffer. This Margherita Pesto Pizza brimmed with tomatoes, cheeses, olives and the pesto. During our eating, both my wife and I said that we could not think of a place in hometown Philadelphia that could match the quality of this selection [BTW, we were not biased because of hunger]. We could not finish it, of course, but the thought of leaving behind such a delicious pizza was anathema even though we were quartered in a dorm room. It was even better the next day.

the pizza was alright and the service was pretty good, but we ended up paying $26 including a modest tip. granted, we have maybe one meal worth of leftovers, but that's most assuredly not worth $26, especially when the two of us could have eaten at lonnski's with two beers for the same price or less. i am also thoroughly unimpressed with their "pizza pickup parking only" sign that they put outside sometimes. which is like, okay, you're too lazy to walk from three parking spaces down to pick up your damn pizza. as if they have the right to dictate how public parking spaces are used? i just don't get it.

I love the pizzas here. The crust is thin and crisp without being dry. Their garlic cheese bread is to die for. I'm a personal fan of getting Hawaiian pizzas, but my friends all vote for the margarita pizza as top of the line. It's also open late, which is a bonus in a town that sees to shut down at 7pm.

My favorite pizza place in Grinnell. It's basic American crispy thin-crust pizza which is well prepared even when they are packed. We like the house special, the pepperoni pesto, the vegetarian, and the entirely misnamed margarita (it's got cheese and tomatoes but artichokes and no basil). The drink selection is uninspired. A few beers with Amber Bock being the best by a long shot. I usually get a glass of Cab which isn't anything to write home about. Service is generally good, but don't count on the waitress (I think I might have seen one male server in 3+ years) returning between when you pizza arrives and when you're about done. If you need a refill get it when your pizza comes. Verdict: Solid American pizza. Often our choice when we're too tired to cook.

apparently, the city of grinnell shuts down on sunday... but pagliai's was open, and packed! food was fine, but i'm pretty sure this place's popularity has more to do with the convenience factor and beer pitchers than anything else (it counts for something; there really were NO other options!)
(4)Roxy J.
I feel that it is pretty expensive for a little cheese pizza. Regular pizza's, like cheese or pepperoni, and not very good here. Specialty pizza's are decent. I've really liked Pag's but in the past few months I have noticed a decline in quality.

The pizza is gross as well as the pasta. The pitchers of beer are reasonably priced. It's usually PACKED and smells ... too ... greasy.

Love this pizza! Recently went back to Grinnell after 20 yrs and I had to go back for my favorite ... House pizza with ranch. Ok so it isn't a diet food but it was worth every calorie. I even accidentally went after the restaurant closed and Joey Pagliai himself took pity on me and made me a house pizza .. And personally dropped off a couple frozen ones so I could take them back to Chicago. You can't get service like that in Chicago! Can't wait til my next visit to Pag's. Hope it isn't another 20 yrs!! You must try this pizza!

Great pizza with a nice variety of toppings and a casual, family friendly atmosphere. The Vegetarian and Margherita specialty pizzas are especially good.

Oh, man, I loved that Margherita pizza. Pesto and feta and tomatoes and big, awesome artichoke hearts. Sigh.
