Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Three of us (Golf buddies) had the pleasure of dining here after an enthusiastic recommendation from a golf course employee. Two of us are true foodies, we cook a lot and we dine out extensively (Chicago is our mecca)! I don't know if the food is always this good or we hit them on one of their better nights, but the food was spot on! My companions had the rib eye and I had the smoked prime rib. Both were fantastic! We all ordered medium rare which will generally result in a .333 to .666 batting average. These cooks hit it out of the park! The meat was perfect and the house green beans to die for (Simple, but full of flavor). We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and were quite taken back by the preparation and presentation. It was delicious. OH! And an added bonus, no corking fee for the first bottle! That's class! We will definitely return when in the area again.

My wife and I have dined there often and have had nothing but great food and great service. There brunch is one of the best in the Des Moines metro, but it can be quite busy at times. I would definitely recommend a reservation for their brunch.

It had been a few years since we've visited The Radish. My husband & I shared an almond encrusted chicken salad with the delicious homemade dressings & cannelloni. Both dishes were great! I think I could eat the salad daily. You should check this place out. The all-you-can-eat fried chicken smelled & looked great. Maybe next time.

I went here with my daughter the atmosphere is awesome. However when it come to there food verse price.. They a way over priced.. I ordered the salmon cakes and I got three small ball of salmon with a half cup of lettuce in the center to make the dish look fuller then it actually is.. I won't be coming back

Worst dining experience ever. After having a reservation for over a month and traveling from out of town, we were seated in a back room near the exit and bathroom. We waited quite sometime for server to greet our table and our food was brought to each of us at two separate times Luke warm in temperature. Forty minutes into our dining experience, we were asked if they could escort us to the crowded bar area to finish our meal since they wanted to give our table to a larger party who had walked in on Valentine's evening without a reservation. We had only been 40 minutes into or dining experience. If zero was as option I would list this instead.

My husband and I was passing through Des Moines -- I decided to see what dinner menus were the closest to where we were and the Yelp-Posters didn't steer us wrong. I had the Coconut Encrusted Tilapia and my husband had the Surf n Turf. Both meals were delicious! The service was great and the Resturant spotless! The meal prices are very reasonable. FYI - ask the Chef to go light on the seasoning for the "Surf" just a little too salty... Otherwise we are glad we stopped in for dinner... From Cumming, Georgia...

I've eaten at the Radish several times. For the most part, it's a great alternative to the run-of-the-mill standards you find in the western 'burbs. Over the weekend, my wife and I and another couple ventured in and were seated immediately. It was ~7PM so the early crowd was thinning out. After about 5 minutes we were greeted by a server and our drink orders were taken. That was pretty much the last time we saw her. She was replaced by a much more attentive, albeit harried, server who did her best to keep up. Perhaps they were short of staff that night. Anyway, we placed our orders and waited. Aaand waited. Eventually our appetizer arrived, the Blackened Mushrooms - and it was outstanding. One of my favorite apps in town, honestly. Perfectly sautéed button mushrooms in a slightly Cajun-ed sauce. Very tasty. Our salads and soups never arrived. 3 of us ordered the Prime Rib, which was truly excellent, our friend ordered the Salmon Florentine and she loved. it. Because of the miss with the salads, soups, and timings, they comped us 4 desserts, which were okay. The chef visited us a couple of times to make sure we were okay. You know, when service is missing, and they care about it...it makes up for the lack. I appreciate that the Chef (owner, too?) came out. Nice touch on his part. He knew our table was having issues. So, to recap: the food was very good; the service was very spotty. My guess is they were understaffed with servers and they couldn't get their ordering right in the kitchen. I'll definitely go back; no harm no foul. Hopefully the service'll be tighter.

Absolutely excellent. The brunch was exquisite. The breakfast pizza was top notch. The service was second to none, always attentive. For the price, this is THE BEST breakfast/brunch place in Des Moines.

I'm so glad I experienced this place and that my family did too! We arrived at 6:30 on a Wednesday with a reservation but didn't need one, plenty of room. I was surprised by how roomy it really was. We were seated on the left side in a booth. I like how roomy their booths are but I don't like that the back has see through glass. Just a personal privacy preference. I don't recall our servers name but he had a star tattoo on the forearm- great server. Very tentative, timely, and provided a stellar dinner recommendation- his own favorite of course. :) The Wednesday night special is lasagna. I wasn't really in a lasagna mood. My husband and I started with the calamari. I liked the calamari because it was the right type of breading, not too much fried, and in strips versus chunks that I've had previously. We also received a bread and butter basket. I love the bread! It has a hint of something sweet... Cinnamon maybe? It was delicious. For dinner I ordered the recommended stuffed apricot glazed salmon as did my mother in law. The others ordered trout, surf and turf, and an Italian sandwich (I think). I enjoyed my meal very much. My mother in law said her salmon wasn't cooked totally in the center but really enjoyed the rest of her meal. My husband and my bill was $90 with one appetizer, two entrees, and about 5 drinks between us.

Tastee, tastee, tastee. Good service. Folks were friendly and courteous. Told them we were from out-of-state and they gave us special treatment. I had the Italian sausage - melted cheese - peppers - yum!!

I met up with some girlfriends here for our first experience at The Radish. We were sat in a booth and it was cozy. The food was pretty good, so was the wine! I ordered the Ruby Red Trout which was lightly floured, pan seared and served in a white wine, lemon & cream sauce. I got a side of the vegetables, which were fresh green beans. For my wine I got the BV Coastal Sauvignon Blanc. Thank you for having more than just a Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio to chose from! My only beef with this joint was the server. It wasn't that she was friendly because she was but I swear she wrote our orders down so I was surprised when it took her a minute to place our meals down in front of us correctly and also when she came back and wasn't sure which check belonged to whom and when she did items were on the wrong checks. I think this is probably a training issue and it's easy enough to write down orders in the correct order to fix that so I kept this at 4 stars. Definitely a good place outside Des Moines.

An odd mix of locals in shorts and flip flops with outsiders looking for something unique. This place is on the corner of a Main Street in grimes. It smells of fish upon arrival. Medium steak cooked to gray. Ribeye 1/4" thick. Servers nice. Would not return.

The Radish is a great place to eat with a menu that will please everyone in your group. The lunch menu is more casual with sandwiches, wraps, pasta, salads and more. The dinner menu has more entrees with steaks, seafood, chicken dishes and pasta. Every time we have eaten at The Radish the service has been great. They have pizza available for take-out so we have done take-out meals a few times. I love the menu variety, as I eat mainly vegetarian but those I dine with do not. They have veggie wraps, quesadillas, pasta and a portabella sandwich so lots of tasty choices. Our company also uses The Radish as a caterer. We have had them provide meals from 10 to over 100. They have top-notch service and and the presentation for their food is beautiful. The quality is as great as what is in the restaurant. This fall they have been featuring a butternut sqaush soup that I haven't found anyone who doesn't rave about. The Des Moines Register did a write-up on the soup that got us to order it, and we haven't ordered another kind of soup since.

Great food. Chef greats you at the door and all ways checks in to be sure your visit with them is pleasant. Food is excellent! Only reason I take one star off is I think it is a bit high priced. Entrees can run $20 to $30 each great food but a bit pricey. My wife and I live in Grimes and frequent here often.

Went with my best friend today over my lunch hour. It's decently close to my work so had our waitress been a little more attentive to us, one of her two tables that she had, we could have gotten out of there in an hour. I had the gyro and my friend had the all american burger. Both were very good. It's a charming restaurant turned from what looks like used to be a house. I'd go back.

The Radish The Radish is a strange name for a restaurant and yes they do serve a radish with every meal. Upon arrival I had high hopes for the place as it was located in what used to be a house. As we waited for a table the place looked pretty nice complete with a wine selection in plain sight. However that is where the night ended for us. We ended up getting placed in a secluded corner of the restaurant which sounds good in theory. Our table was in an isolated spot right next to the one, unisex bathroom with a nice cold draft running under the table. So under the circumstances the atmosphere for me that night not good. For the service, it almost started out good I do like a waitress that does not need to write the orders down. However the first thing we ordered they were out of, along with the second and yes, the third and it was not that late. The most disappointing thing about the service was that our waitress always had an excuse for the things that happened and threw anyone and everyone else under the bus. It was the guy who seated us that should have told us what they were out of. A Daddy Daughter Dance was the reason they were out of everything by 7:00 pm and when we had to go get our check it somehow was the fault of the bus girl. The radish is a fine dining establishment with fast food service. At this point the food would have to be perfect to be average. I had the walleye if it was my first walleye, it may have very wall been the last. I tried some mashed potatoes that were cold, the bread on both sandwiches was way too hard. On the positive side the hash browns were good and the red apple coleslaw was amazing; the best coleslaw I've ever had. But it was too little too late. With prices of the entrees $20 and up my expectations increase the radish this night was more like a turnip bitter and hard to swallow. The Radish is worthy of 5 stars based on a combination of things 5 star service!! The owner works the front of the house like he's done it all his life. He made me feel like he'd know me for years! I wasn't impressed with my watermelon cooler, the watermelon flavor didn't shine through. But the portions are HUGE! The crab cakes are to die for and the oatmeal & almond encrusted walleye is a savory delight. The crunchy texture of the red apple slaw made this dish sing!! I would highly encourage a visit to The Radish who knows you just might see me there!;)

Server was slow and didn't check in on us, while the waiter next to us was spot on. Food was okay, might give them another try. Grimy chips were okay, but sandwiches were mediocre (bottom of Reuben was soggy).
(3)Midevil M.
I've had dinner here a few times. Their steak is mediocre and pricey. The place itself is very tight for my liking. Not the most ideal for a date for 2. The small lot/side of the street attracts a lot of people with $60k+ vehicles and I don't get. I'll drive a little further for better food at Texas Roadhouse for less money.

Walked into The Radish with the place being one of my favorite places in the area as of late and now I'm not so sure. I understand it's Valentine's Day and you're probably paying a premium to go anywhere, but tonight's dinner felt especially overpriced. Now this isn't to say the food wasn't good, because it was, but still. On top of this was a waitress who was all over the place and unpleasant. It's going to take a while if and when I decide to return.

I am adding a review about their Sunday Brunch. We had heard about it through a co-worker who said we had to go sometime. We arrived around 11:30 am and were seated right away. We had a booth directly across from the buffet. We were told we could go to the buffet whenever we were ready. Ther was a lot to choose from, everything from pastries to omlets to pasta to salad. My favorite was the cheesy hash browns; they had great flavor. Their breakfast pizza was really good too. Heck all the food I had was good! The only reason I am not ranking it a five star is because a couple omlets got a little too done and they had to open the front door to get the haze out. The place got cold. I liked this brunch over Granite City's.

My honey and I enjoyed a special Valentine's dinner here and it was one of the best meals we have ever had. Upon entering the front door of the house converted to a restaurant, we were greeted by Mike who is the chef and owner. I ordered the wedge salad and it is the best I have ever enjoyed anywhere. It was large enough for three people to enjoy, so I took most of it home. I loved the Ruby Red Trout with mashed potatoes and broccoli. My honey had the Prime Rib Steak and said it was perfect. We decided to try the Creme Brulee and Mousse specials for the day and couldn't stifle our moans of delight. The chef walked through the restaurant a few times during our meal and we made sure to thank him for the wonderful offerings. Everyone was professional and we will be back soon.

The food was wonderful, nice portion sizes for lunch at a good price. The restuarant was clean nicely decorated for both the town and current time of year.

We've been Grimes residents since December of 2009, and we've quickly learned that The Radish is the best place in town for a good meal! The atmosphere is cozy and warm, and the high booths keep you cloistered in your own little world as you enjoy food and drink with your friends and family. The food is simple, fresh, yet still served with a unique twist (almond crusted chicken fingers, pistachio encrusted lamb chops). You can find all your favorites on the menu, including chicken parm, pasta with pesto sauce, ribeye and many others. If you're trying the place for the first time, I recommend the Sunday brunch. Chef and owner Mike stands ready to cook you a made-to-order omelet with your choice of any ingredients he has on-hand. While you wait for it to cook and be brought to your table, fill your plate with bacon, sausage, salads, delicious pastries, potatoes and more! You won't go home hungry! Pick out your favorites, and then come back for a quiet dinner with your spouse or close friends. Just don't let the HUGE radish that comes served on the side of all the dishes scare you away! We loved this place so much we hosted our rehearsal dinner here in April for about 30 people. This event is the only thing that stops me from giving the place four stars. They seemed ill-equipped to handle such a large group, despite having made plans for this months in advance and being assured that they had space. My group felt cramped in the side room of the building, and it was too noisy to do any kind of toasting. The food was a bit slow to come out, and my older/younger guests were getting sleepy by the end of the night. It wasn't a terrible experience, it just wasn't ideal - the food was delish, I just wished we had chosen a place with more space or maybe a private party room. Overall, The Radish continues to be a favorite when friends and family come to visit, and we're glad it's just down the road from us!!

Ate here a few times for their Sunday brunch - and it is great food. Everything seems freshly made and tastes excellent. The place is small - doesn't "feel" like it could seat that many customers - but we've never had to wait so somehow they work people in. My only complaint is that there isn't anything spicy on the buffet - no fault of theirs but just something I personally need :) It also seems that their buffet menu has been the same everytime eating here - so I've gotten a little bored with the food - but the quality of the buffet is top notch. Their corned beef hash & fruit sauces (for french toast/waffles) are my highlites!

We had dinner here last weekend, and it was amazingly good. We both ordered the 20 oz, bone in prime rib. Big Steer in Altoona still wins the award for best prime rib in the DSM area, but The Radish's comes in a close second. Our meals were almost $30 a plate, but we recieved a LOT of food--huge side salad, awesome rosemary bread with butter, choice of potato and a side of fresh brocoli. Service was excellent, and the ambiance in this little converted house was nice. Definitely will be back to try other menu items.

on friday evening i went to the radish in grimes. i've wanted to visit this place for a long time as it is on the top 100 list. we were greeted right away at the door by the owner. we had a short wait but i absolutely didn't mind. the place was packed and i loved seeing all of the dishes coming out of the kitchen. i overheard people raving about how great the prime rib was and how it was the best in the des moines. apparently the chef and owner use to be the head chef at the savery downtown and left to open up this little gem in grimes. after hearing all the fantastic reviews on the prime rib i decided i had to order it...all twenty ounces. it also came with a salad served appropriately garnished with a radish, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. when this perfectly medium steak along with fresh horseradish showed up in front of me i felt like fred flintstone. i guess i didn't realize how big twenty ounces actually was. it turned out to be a great choice, it was absolutely delicious and juicy. i loved every bite. i am sad to say i didn't finish it all but felt like i put forth a good showing leaving about a quarter or so of it. as i was leaving the owner stopped me to ask me how everything was and let me know that if i ever had any specific requests to give him twenty-four hour notice and he'd make me whatever i like. for example next weekend he was making red velvet cake for someone and seafood bisque for another patron...pretty good service if you ask me. looking forward to my next visit!

What a great find! A little restaurant way out on the edge of the metro. As mentioned, it is in a converted house. This place was packed on a Wednesday night. Another place with great from scratch food. The bread is really good, as long as you don't mind the rosemary. The cannelloni is amazing, with a great sauce and well seasoned meat. Everything we had here was amazing. The service was good and prompt, although a little awkward. They also have a cheap wine list (under $20 a bottle), as well as the normal reserves ($100+). One last thing that gets the fifth star, is that the prices are not too high for such high quality food.

We decided to head out of town ( after church) to find a brunch buffet. We checked our Yelp app and found The Radish to be ranked fairly high, but not based on many reviews...SO we decided to take the risk and drive an extra few more miles to see if the positive reviews were accurate. THEY WERE! We took 2 teenage boys, and two pre-teen girls who are true buffet "snobs" and are happy to report they want to come back! Food was excellent...I am pretty sure between the 8 of us (we quickly called two relatives to meet us there), we all ate something from the buffet. Pastries were all unique and fresh (and we know pastries-we're from Pella), made to order omelets had endless ingredient choices (and HUGE...might want to split one) and the buffet variety made it fun to go back several times...hot pastas, meats, french toast and pancakes, biscuits and gravy, fresh preserves, pizza, garden salad (and there's more!). I like to be careful not to overdo carbs (and could have watched them with the selections if I was dieting), but the food was so good I had to splurge! If we could give the place a 5+ we would...as the head chef brought our boys and girls a complimentary dessert (chocolate mousse) in a chilled glass drizzled with bitter sweet chocolate, whipped cream and a chocolate accent. Now this is a chef who cares about his new patrons! We will be spreading the word..."The Radish" in Grimes...best brunch in central Iowa!

Several of us in our neighborhood met at the Radish for their Sunday brunch buffet. I liked the omelette. I did not hear anyone raving about any particular dish on the buffet but overall it was good. The service was great.
