So far, this is the best breakfast place in Dubuque area :)! Everything I've had was excellent so far.

We stopped by for lunch after visiting the museum near by. The lunch specials were really delicious and very reasonably priced. The service was fast and friendly.

A simple diner with good prices. The breakfast specials are unbelievably cheap. I had scrambled eggs with feta and toast. The feta made the eggs a little saltier than I would have liked but overall they were good. Service was quick and friendly.
Here for breakfast very tasty and awesome service. Too much food for me to eat, very cheap, under $3 for 2 pigs in a blanket.

OK, I knew that this place would be a no frills, towny hangout, which is just what I wanted: solid food, plain, but friendly, atmosphere. This was certainly a native hangout but it was really, really bad based on a simple hamburger. It made McD look like a gourmet delight. Specifically, I ordered the pizza burger which was a modest sized toasted bun with the tiniest....thing...I hate to call it meat. It was almost the color of meat, certainly not the texture and clearly not the taste of meat. Then there was a glop of reddish-goo that was supposed to be cheese. Just horrible. I think the worst I've ever had...and I've eaten some total crap in my day. I did enjoy the lemon rice soup. The service was slow but friendly. There must be better in this quaint little town!

I cried the day the Dubuque Family Restaurant closed. Really. Loved it; good food, reasonably priced, nice, diner-like atmosphere. And then I found the Sunshine Family Restaurant and it has nearly filled the void left by the closing of the DFR. Is it high-class dining? No. It's a freaking diner. But you could do much worse for breakfast. The skillets are a bonafide good time (although I generally ask for the hash browns to be cooked a bit more than they generally do). No cloth napkins, although the water glasses are clean. The wait staff has personality, to say the least. Your coffee will never be more than 1/2 empty. Please know I am predisposed to like diners, but this is as good of a diner as we've got in Dubuque. IT's packed on the weekends, so if you don't want to wait, I'd be there by 9A.

Very friendly wait staff. Place is in need of a redo but the important part is the food. Bases on the reviews three of us ate lunch there. Sorry reviewers but this food was terrible. My husband's veal cutlet was served with canned dark brown gravy; the three of us could not determine what he was eating. His vegetables were gray-green , characteristic of canned peas. Our guest and I ordered breakfast but the meals were greasy and tasteless. The coffee was fair to good. It was unfortunate since Dubuque was devoid of decent restaurant choices. Nice people and a great Mississippi River museum.

Just an average diner. The staff was supper friendly but the food was just average (mostly canned and instant food) but hearty. The fries that come with hamburgers are steak fries and that was nice.

A great place to eat. Wonderful service, friendly staff, & delicious food. The food was delivered quickly and piping hot. There was so much of it we took the left overs home. We would definitely come back to enjoy breakfast with them again.

Good cheap breakfast. The service was ok. My husband ordered an omelet and was disappointed with the lack of cheese.

They were busy when we arrived, but we were seated quickly, coffee at our table and our order taken without delay. We ordered a taco skillet, corned beef hash and pancakes. The food came out quickly and tasted delicious. Our bill was less than $20, definitely worth the price. They have breakfast specials until 11. It was so good we came back 2 days later.

I'm a huge fan of diners - so I adored this little treasure! It's kitchy, simple, and very diner-esque, and I loved it. Those that complain - This isn't your upscale restaurant, it's simple, honest food and incredible prices. My son and I ate here for under $10 and I had to ask if the bill was right! The food was generously portioned, I noticed another diners hashbrowns were not quite as crispy as I like mine, so I simply ordered them well done. The food was excellent, service was fast, attentive, and wonderful - and any time I am down in Dubuque - we will be going back!

Stopped in for a family breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were seated right away, and the server was pleasant and friendly. The prices, OH LORD, the prices. Being Chicago natives, I was SO pleased to see omelets for $4 for breakfasts for under $5. The food was hearty and generously-portioned, tasted good, and our coffee cups were never empty. Definitely a great find.

Went on a Tuesday morning, it was fairly busy at 11. We were promptly greeted and offered coffee. I got a skillet and customized it with no problem and my fiancé got biscuits and gravy. When our food arrived maybe 10 minutes later, he wanted to add to the order and did and the pigs in a blanket came in less than 5 minutes. The food was yummy and fast and exactly what you'd expect from a hometown diner!
