I have been going to Salsa's ever since they opened and it's been my fav Mexican restaurant in town. Well... I went there last week at lunch hour, 1:30-2 or so. I grabbed a booth and waited. And waited. A girl came by after a while and dropped me a menu. Literally dropped me a menu and walked away, nothing else. It was awkward like she was mad at me or something??? Anyways a short while later a guy came to get my order and I was ready right away bc I had been here for 15 minutes already knowing what I'm going to have. He was friendly, the food was prompt. The margaritas left something to be desired but were boozy enough. The guacamole was terrible- it tasted like plastic. I'm hoping they work their kinks out & get it together bc I'm rooting for them. But service needs to step their game up.

Well this is the 2nd time I have eaten here while on the road, and the food is great! But it was a bit of a bummer experience last night! I ordered Veggie fahitas with no Sour Cream and Cheese to make it vegan and naturally it came out with tons of cheese melted on my beans so I sent it back and then they made a new plate but this time my letttuce had sour cream all over it.They fixed it, but by this point my food was not steaming hot anymore! The food here is great, and I'm happy they took care of it.. Just a lack of communication beween server and cook. But its a nice clean place with clean bathrooms, and the chips and salsa hit the spot as they should, it's in the name!

Both times that I recently went here, I was amazed by the lack of flavor and service. I feel for the employees by this negative review, but the manager needs to get it together to keep this leaky boat afloat.

We went to this restaurant off of Main Street and our first impression was accurate. We were not even sure if the place was open because of the dim lighting. The floor was sticky. We ordered two margaritas. The margaritas came from a mix in which the mix sits right on the bar, instead of in a fridge. The margarita s were warm with a few ice cubes. Then we ordered fajitas to split which came out burned and charred all the way thru the meat. The chips and salsa were unremarkable and the guac bland. The wait staff is very slow about checking on tables even when the restaurant is slow. There are better options in Dubuque.

No bueno...we had a party of six and had to be split up into two booths...food took over an hour and the wait staff never came back for drinks....service horrible and food was mediocre at best. Will not return...

Best enchilada ranchera--cheese ench smothered under shredded pork. Chips average, salsa quite good with kick on finish, salsa picante muy picante-beware.

This is Midwest Mexican food, and not actual Mexican. I went here with my wife and had tacos and an enchilada. The tacos were hard shells with iceberg lettuce and bland cheese. One could not find a hint of lime or cilantro in the whole thing. The chicken was overcooked and bland. The enchilada was underbaked but clearly had the overcooked, bland chicken in it. The sauce also pathetic and pretty obviously came from a can. The best part is the chips and salsa, which was actually pretty good, but I won't come here again.

The best Mexican in town - the ole reliable cheap Mexican you find in almost any American city of any size these days, where "red sauce" is an intricate culinary flourish and you get almost unlimited chips and salsa with the meal. If you work nearby this is a great place to stop in for lunch; the place gets a little crowded but never too badly, and the three different seating areas provide totally different eating experiences. The prices are also great. Having Salsa's close at hand is definitely a perk to living downtown.

I don't eat a lot of Mexican food, especially since I moved to Dubuque. But what I do know is that eating at Salsa's was like eating at my mom's, or grandmother's house. If, of course, they were Mexican and not Italian. Very home made tasting, real tasting, not processed tasting. For me, I express love with cooking. If I make something from scratch for you, it's a hug, a welcome, an expression of my fondness for you. Food like that makes you feel warm inside, it's really hard to explain. And that's how I felt eating it. Like someone in the kitchen cared. That they wanted their warm personality to shine through in their food. It did. The price for lunch was amazing, too. That impressed me. $22 for two of us? I will admit, though, I was not excited about the chips, but I'm not a chip person.

One of the better eating establishments in Dubuque. Love the huge list of menu options. Excellent chile relleno tacos. Like the homemade salsa. Service was prompt and friendly. Would visit again if back in the area.

I had lunch here a few weeks ago. I really liked the burrito I got but the rice had a funny taste to it. I was not a fan of the rice. But that's ok, because I didn't plan on eating it anyway! Service was good, we were allowed to sit and chat for a while, no pressure to leave, and the bathroom was better than I expected. I'd definitely go back for reliable, basic Mexican.

This place is gross. The salsa was like liquid, my taco shell was moist which was nasty. The margaritas were bland and didn't taste like they had any liquor in them. Compared to Margarita's in NH, this place is a 0 in my book. No thanks.

What makes a place that has pretty good food exceptional? Service. I'm no snob by any means- I don't need to be pampered or flattered or trended. We went to Salsas on a whim because it looked busy while across the street at L. May Eatery (another sweet find). Point being- food decent, service second to none. The waiter we had took the time to sit and chat with our 2.5 yr old dining tyrant, and also brought her a special bowl of milder salsa when he noticed she declared the house salsa "too spicy". Very attentive staff, quick food, and good drinks. The menu is huge but what Mexican restaurant menu isn't? I'd go back.

Main meal of chimichangas was delicious. However, the opening act of chips and salsa was disappointing. The chips tasted burned.

My personal favorite place for Mexican food in Dubuque. Never a wait for a table and the service is good and the food taste great! We go once a month and the staff actually remembers our meals and us and the everyone always seems very friendly. Love the neighborhood feel too!

What a disappointment. The beer on tap wasn't cold, the salsa was flavorless, and the tortilla chips were hard. My quesadilla tasted like fake cheese and the pico de gallo had no color! We live in IOWA and you can't find a red tomato? Pitiful. A friend ordered nachos which were all tan and yellow, no salsa, and also fake-tasting. This place is terrible - don't waste your time.

Only stopped here for a drink so I can't say anything about the food. Had a strawberry margarita and it was enough for me not to want to go back. Sooooo sweet, overly sweet. So sugary that I didn't finish my drink. My husband had a regular margarita which was only marginally better. We both left alcohol in the glass. Skip this place for drinks.

I don't understand why this place has such a low rating. We stopped in Dubuque on a road trip, only to find one downtown restaurant open for lunch (past 2:30 PM) on a Monday. And Salsa's was it. The salsa was very good, and the chicken fajitas were excellent. Every time I go to a Mexican restaurant, I only order the fajitas - and these were some of the best fajitas I've had in a long time. The onions and green peppers were grilled to perfection. I'd definitely return!

I like Salsa's. I really do. It's just that they have a lot of competition, and it's hard to beat Los Aztecas at their own game. Salsa's is located downtown, which is a plus if you're looking for something in the neighborhood. It's also a fairly quiet place, so getting a table is never a problem. I like the fact that they serve their complimentary salsa in mini caraffes, and the margarita glasses have cactuses on the stems. It's the little things. Service is ok.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
