Pros: good coffee, pleasant service, kinda cool location Cons: Bland food Overall better than Denny's or IHOP, but not by much.

This upscale casual spot is probably the best lunch spot I've found in downtown Dubuque. Situated on a corner, and with access to a beautiful old renovated department store first floor, you have access to quick and affordable takeout. I dropped in for a two pizza slice with drink special for $5.50. Best thin crust I've had since I moved to the area. Galena has nothing for pizza lovers. There are also lettuce wrap sandwiches to go, and I'm guessing, anything from the menu. They've got you covered from fantastic breakfast pastries to an inviting bar you hang out at for happy hour. The menu has a lot of attractive urban bakery/cafe choices, and prices won't break your bank. I know where I'm lunching now while I work in Dubuque. Sometimes the lunch gods just lead me to the right places. Manna Java is one of those.

An excellent coffee shop for breakfast, lunch, or just coffee! It is cozy, relaxed, and funky! Go with friends or family!

They have a good selection of burgers and pizzas. It's a nice place to go for lunch. The staff is always friendly.

We were so happy to stumble upon this cafe. Awesome homemade artisan bread and pastries. We had breakfast, sitting next to a window, watching the passerbys on a Saturday morning. My husband loved his omelette and toast -- not to greasy, very fresh. I had a lovely latte--great espresso and perfectly foamed. My breakfast quesadilla was the best ice had yet. Great way to fuel up before our visit to the field if dreams.

I used to go to Mana Java all the time and typically had a decent experience. However, the past few times I went my group's orders have been incorrect and food was delivered to the wrong table several times. Also, they moved away from a standard POS system to an iPad based one. As a result, their machine will no longer accept my debit card. The staff and systems seem to have become increasingly incompetent over the past few months. Place would get 4 stars if it wasn't for these issues. Until they are solved, I will no longer be eating lunch here.

We've heard quire a bit about the pizza. We were impressed with the pie. Great crust and fresh toppings. Definitely go back to try another off the menu.

This place is an absolute joke! I used to go there a couple of times per week but not anymore! Food is okay, but the people working there just don't know what they're doing, including the owners. They swapped out their functional point of sale system for ipads with credit card readers and they are constantly having problems with them. In literally 8 out of the last 10 visits, they have had some sort of problem with the registers, which causes long delays. Today was the second time that they could not get the register working at all. After almost 10 minutes of watching them mess with it and swiping my card 20 times, they finally said they couldn't help me and I had to leave without the items I intended to purchase! This happend before, but instead of turning me away, they just gave me the items for free. I don't expect free things, but I do expect them to have functioning equipment. This isn't a random thing, it is constant. If you have lots of extra time on your hands and want to wait forever for mediocre food, give them a try!

HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, WORST service EVER. First it took them 15 mins to clean a table to seat us. Then another 20 mins for our waiter (who claimed to be the. Manager) to show up at our table. Once he actually showed to take our order, he didn't even greet us or apologized for delay service, NOTHING!!!! He was very rude and short, as if we ever bothering him being there. We were trying very hard to keep our cool by this time. I asked for his suggestion for different latte, he said he didn't know. He finally took our order. Another 15 mins goes by, we asked him to at least bring water twice and. NOTHING. We waited for almost 40 mins. We didn't even have water on our table. At this point, my husband lost all his patience and we finally walked out. When he saw us walking out, he just stood there without a word like a dummy.

Get the Apollonia sandwich - it's amazing! Their grass-fed burgers are yummy as well.

Tried to eat here but they closed the kitchen 1.5 hours early (on a Monday to be fair). The bar looked open, but we left to find food.

Atmosphere: funky, a little more hip than you might expect to see in a town the size of Dubuque. I like it! Bakery: the bread is pretty good! Desserts: Cheesecake's good, pecan bar's dry, cake's meh. Service: usually pretty good. That said, you really can't customize things here. I mean, you can try, and sometimes you might even succeed. But of the four times I've come here (with 2-5 others), they've messed up at least one order, and it was ALWAYS the order that was customized. Didn't switch the ham out, didn't skip the mushrooms in the burger, that kind of thing. So definitely, if you come here, don't deviate from the menu, you'll just get upset. Coffee: pretty decent, but I've only had it once. Food: The soup and sandwiches are pretty good good. The sandwich combinations are a little outside of the box of the typical offerings here. I've gotten something new every time I've come, and they've all been great. That said, the sides aren't anything special - I think the Naughty Dog down the street has much better sides. My husband loves their homemade chips, so usually, he eats mine, and I grab the soup. Overall, though, it's a little pricey for what you get.

Best baked goods in the tri-state area - Georgia knows her croissants! I would love to see MJ busier in the evenings - the bar is upscale for Dubuque and well stocked. Breakfast is made to order and reasonably priced, pizzas and sandwiches are good but the tapas menu could use a facelift and turnover as far as service seems to be an ongoing problem. Maybe a few comfy couches or chairs would be more conducive for intimate conversation - and acoustic music would be nice as well. Overall I still love this place, and I worked here for several months last year! Clean, excellent food prep and handling practices and I have been in all the back corners. ;-)

Great Service. Reasonable Prices ($25 for 3 ppl!). Good breakfast food. Dubuque- you continued to impress me with your cafes! We found cafe charming and sweet.
(4)Bryan Z.
All things considered, I've had better breakfasts within the greater Dubuque area, but Cafe Manna Java is not bad if you want a light breakfast and is perhaps just a smidge more expensive than it should be. The coffee is really good; the service generally happy and light, and the window-lined front along Locust street. I've only had one pizza in my time, and it was not necessarily to my liking, although my companion really liked it. I hear it's a pretty cool spot on a Friday night, but I haven't been a part of that, just yet. For the record: If you've invested in this place, I think I would sell my stocks NOW. It's dead. All the time. And while this would not bother me, it just might mean that they will ask you to leave at 930 on a Friday night after you've just ordered a round of drinks. Why? Because no one else was there. I want it to do well, but it's done. Good night.

Awesome coffee and food. Best cafe style restaurant in Dubuque for sure!

The quintessential neighborhood bakery. Home cooked goods! I bought scrumptious pastries and cookies for client visits. I am talking humuogous sticky buns, almond joy cookies, peanut butter creme cookies, not just the normal baked goods. And it is fresh! I bought some rosemary olive bread back home with me and it was scarfed down. It was bright, clean, and Georgia and team were busy both days I went in. Fantastic lattes made to order with beautiful foam. I recommend this to anyone looking to indulge thier sweet tooth. I had the Chef's choice panini for breakfast one morning and it was great - a hearty sandwich! I succumned to the sticky roll the next morning and could not eat the whole thing. Go there! Treat yourself! Free wifi.

Moved into the Roshek building across from art museum at 700 locust street. Love the cafe feel in downtown dubuque, especially a window seat overlooking passers by on locust street. The menu items (which are a little high) cover many areas and taste great. The wood fire pizzas are perfect and home to my favorite pizza in town, the four cheese primo pizza made with pesto (hold the olives and artichokes though!). Great atmosphere!
(5)Liz P.
I love, love, LOVE CMJ. I've never been disappointed when I've gone in. Their sandwiches are huge and delicious. Their pizza? Absolutely decadent. And their pastries. CMJ's croissants are served in heaven, I'm sure. The location is great, right on Main Street, and the decor is simple yet very warming. Their coffee/coffee drinks are always a treat. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is one of Dubuque's finer eateries.

Great coffee, good food. We stopped for breakfast while on the road. The burrito was good - although the portions could be a little larger. Nice setting, free wi-fi.

In a city of strong German-Irish heritage, Cafe Manna Java is unique for its Mediterranean slant. It deserves a gold medal for being the first genuine bakery in town (sorry, Sunbeam!) Located right around the corner from Bricktown, the bakery and coffeeshop couldn't be more different in atmosphere or cuisine. I'm partial to their superb thin-crust pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven. We're not talking pepperoni, folks - try the Four Cheese, with garlic chicken, artichokes, and romano, mozzarella, fontina, and provelone. Their salads and hot sandwiches are equally excellent. A great addition to the revitalized Main Street district.
