I'm a dark roast kind of girl but tried my luck on the New Orleans-Style Iced Coffee from Redband on my way through town. Is it too strange to say I would bathe in that iced coffee if I were able to? The coffee itself was smooth and flavorful, the cream was fresh and delicious, and the brown sugar brought it to a whole new level. This might sound like an insignificant observation but the ice was still present after I had finished the coffee...that means that they took care to actually chill the drink before dumping it over ice. It didn't get watered down at all. It was perfect. Also tried one of the hot roasts (slow drip) they had going that day - I felt like I was wine tasting because the coffee had so much depth. It was incredible. The staff answered all of our nerdy questions about the roasters and we were in-and-out as quickly as we could have been since we were waiting for TRULY fresh coffee. Honestly worth the stop if you're in the area.

This is by far the best coffee shop in the QC! I love that they have 2 locations too. I love riding my bike down to the 4th St location. The coffee is roasted in their hilltop location and it's always a fun surprise to come in while they're doing it. What I love most is that they focus on good coffee. None of that frappucino ice cream coffee or crazy flavored drinks. They do have an espresso machine so they can do a vanilla latte but their main focus is just delicious coffee. And that's exactly how it ought to be.

Favorite coffee in the QC. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu... Even the food is amazing. Friendly fast service too!

I'm a Davenport native and I always pick up a pound to take home when I'm back. It's the best coffee I've ever had. These people know coffee, and they do it pretty darn well. Tip: you get a free cup of coffee with the purchase of a pound bag. Love it!

The only sad thing about this place is that there's no seating! The atmosphere in there is so chill! I would love to take a seat... If only there was one! Other than that I LOVE the coffee! I wish I lived a bit closer because I don't get the chance to go here enough. The New Orleans iced coffee is delicious, my favorite. On top of flavor, Red Band's coffee is sure to deliver a healthy dose of caffeine. Any drink is guaranteed to have you wired all day! Perfect to get some shit done! Such a great little local coffee source! Check this place out and you'll never look at Starbucks the same way again. One of the best places to get coffee in the QC.

Amazing coffee, the nicest people and great conversation. Micro roasted and brewed with care, this is what every great coffee shop should strive to achieve. Well done davenport, well done redband...I WILL be back.

SCONES SCONES SCONES! This was my first thought after driving through the DT after a friendly chat with the person manning the window. Besides being polite and knowledgable about her craft, she let us try a Pumpkin Scone she had been working on that was out of this world. We soon purchased a cinnamon scone and a lemon and white chocolate scone with our latte. The latte was well prepared at the right temp and had none of the heavy bitterness I find in so many other lattes from some places. When we tried the other scones, I was blown away. I am not a fan of Lemon in any baked dish, but the lemon and white chocolate was incredible well balanced and good. The cinnamon scone was well seasoned and paired well with my latte. Even better, this place actually takes the time to individually wrap their scones in sealed plastic for serving. I have to say I appreciated that touch, and it took nothing away from its great flavor. If you just got off the arsenal bridge, make sure you stop here before heading to work. This is a great addition to the riverfront area, and I look forward to coming again.

I love the coffee they serve here. It's easily the best I've ever had in the Quad Cities. I've only been to the location on 4th street, which is convenient but has no seating. I had a fried egg sandwich as well and loved it. The menu is iimited, but who cares when the coffee is this good? It's great to see coffee this good available in QC.

Shop local! Amazing sourced coffee and great customer service. Plus-the egg and Gouda sandwiches are delicious!

Didn't have capacity for the number of people on weekday morning. They need some more employees if they can't meet demand. Sat in drive through for 3 cars got to window and was told i needed to park and wait for a latte. Wouldn't know if they had good coffee or not when service is bad.

I come to Davenport to visit my parents every few months. We tried this place because my Father loves to explore coffee shops. What can I say, took a sip of my Vanilla Latte and turned around and walked back in to buy a pound to take home. Excellent coffee. FYI: No seating.

I was looking for a good cup of real single origin in the Quad Cities. We were told Red Band is the only place in town. It's certainly a step above starbucks but all the complexity was roasted out of the coffee. It's also a strange location that doesn't welcome conversation with the barista about their coffees. You basically walk through the back door of what is a drive through operation, they look at you like you're interrupting their work, and then they begrudgingly make you a cup of coffee while you stand awkwardly in a visually depressing space. If you like starbucks this will be an improvement. If you like a more thoughtful or nuanced approach to coffee this isn't it (yet)

I work one block over from the downtown location and today was my first time visiting. I'm not a coffee person, so I didn't try their drinks, but I had a double chocolate scone and it was MAGICAL. I will definitely be back and I'll definitely be trying a drink! Edited to add- the New Orleans coffee is fantastic!

Amazing espresso... above and beyond my expectations, on-par with ANY of the top-rated coffee roasters in the entire country. This is serious coffee- they know what they are doing, and they do it very well. While they do make "coffee-drinks" (sweetened with caramel, chocolate and the like), the traditional items are their real strength. Their coffees are freshly roasted almost every day, bringing out warm, earthy flavors you can't find at Starbucks or in dark roasts. They do great, individually-brewed drips, french presses, and even cold-brew some varieties, a process that takes upwards of two full days to do correctly. Their espressos are traditional-style, hand-pulled (not machine pulled like most) complete with attractive foam artwork on top. They also sell unique accessories like the infamous chemex brewer. For coffee of this caliber, the prices are about as low as I've ever seen. Their coffee would easily sell for 50% more if the shop were located in Chicago, NY or Seattle. Redband is exactly why Yelp has the five-star rating, in my opinion. Absolutely excellent. Amer'ka.

The best Carmel latte I've ever had. . Softer scones than most places. .more like a Danish. . BUT.... no chairs!!! Stand at the counter or take out only. Meh.

Indie coffee shops are the best, and Redband is among the finest I've ever experienced. Impeccable premises; upbeat yet non-intrusive tunes; cheery barista who laughed heartily at my stupid joke; fresh, tasty coffee, filtered to order; a not-too-sweet scone that impressed this snooty Scot; and fair prices. Well worth going way out of my way for.

My espresso was barely warm. That is all.

What a fantastic place and cup of coffee! A couple of runners looking for something to eat and a cup of joe before the QC half. The place was not scheduled to open for an hour but the owner let us in, made us a couple cups of coffee and a few egg sandwiches and even taught us a few of the tricks to making the world's best cup of coffee! As Buddy the Elf said, "Congratulations! You did it!"

Thanks to all of you Yelpers, I *had* to try this place out. I tried a New Orleans style iced coffee. I was impressed with the setup and the way they mixed the drink... And the drink was indescribable... I cannot find words... it was sweet, yet strong, yet, unexpected in flavor. Definitely not cheap, but definitely a change from the typical coffee chain. Also not a place you'd hang out and drink your coffee while surfing the net leisurely. Not a huge menu, and I'm not sure what to try next... but I will definitely be back.

When a coffee is able to turn you from an occasional coffee drinker to a habit drinker there is truly something short of magical in their beans. I have visited redband on many occasions for iced and drip coffee. It has been life changing. Their coffee has flavors that one can only imagine brewed to perfection. It is deep rich and powerful. It is not a coffee shop to visit to study or meet with friends but a little shop to stop and grab your coffee or beans. A must stop on any trip to Eastern Iowa.

Stopped in during a cross-country drive. I'm a New Yorker and a bit of a coffee enthusiast. The NOLA coffee drink is as good as advertised! A must get. People are incredibly friendly. No seats though.

Note: This review is specific to the hilltop (13th and Brady) location. First, there aren't enough stars to rate this establishment. As a coffee lover, Redband is a no-brainer since all of their coffee is fresh. The drip varieties and finesse of the preparers also set this place apart from the rest of the competition. If you like Ethiopian beans, then you will fall in love with the blueberry and raisin undertones of the Yirgacheffe and Kochere (respectively), the complexity of Harar, the overall excellence of the Sidamo. Redband's "fluffier" drinks also excel and if Craig is working that day, you might find some foamy artwork on the top of your latte! This brings up the subject of staff. On various occasions, I have been served by Craig, Danielle, Nicolai, Peter, and Cathy (one of owners). Each time, I have been impressed by their knowledge and friendliness. They make a point of treating making each customer feel important. The only caveat is that Redband does not have any sit-down area. If they did, I'd never leave. Six stars and three thumbs up!

I'm not one for hyperbole, but I'm serious when I say: this is the best cup of coffee you can get in the QC. It COULD be the best cup in the Midwest, but I haven't been to every coffee shop ever so I can't back that up. I HAVE been to every coffee shop in the QC, and Redband is a step above. Half of it's the quality beans they use, but the other half is the pour-over drip method they use to brew. I bought a pound of grounds to take home with me to use with my french press, and it's still not as good as the cup I had at the shop. Might be time to buy a Chemex... The baristas I met were friendly and knowledgeable. My only disappointment is that their two coffee shops are just indoor stands where you order a cup to go; there's no sitting down involved. I hope someday they will expand to a nice sit-down coffee shop with WiFi, but for now, just enjoy the brew.

On par with neaarly anything you might find in San Francisco, Oregon, Washington State. Nuff said, I think.

This place has, by far, the best coffee I have ever had in my life. The iced coffee is so amazing I have been known to order them 2 at a time. However, the other drinks are not to be disregarded. All the coffee is roasted in the store and is amazing. No bitter aftertaste. I stop several times a week and also purchase the iced coffee concentrate to have on hand at home. After one visit, you will have a tough time going anywhere else for coffee.

Freaking awesome!!! Roasts on site. Must try the special iced coffee which is an 18hr cold brew with brown sugar. Only negative is the short hours - they close at 5pm.

Bill M. had a spot on review. I lived and went to school in the neighborhood and visited Redband at least several times per week. It DOES NOT get better than Redband!! Pre-redband: I always thought I didn't like the flavor of coffee, always getting a sugary blended type drink (and i'm a former barista). Post-redband: their coffee turns even the most finnicky of coffee drinker into a fan. I honestly didnt know what coffee was suppose to be like until they came around. Every single cup is not ground or dripped until you order it. Their beans are always freshly roasted within a day or two. In fact on their roasting days you can't come within blocks without being entranced by the aroma. The new orleans iced coffee was not something I tried until 6 months ago or so, thinking that the hot dripped could not possibly be topped. Then the iced coffee --- perfect on a warm day!!!!!!!!! That flavor is so amazing. You dont have to add any sugar or cream and it comes out perfect just as they make it. Their mochas will also never be beat. Not only do the baristas make beautiful foam art, the chocolate is top notch quality that dissolves in the milk without being grainy or syrupy. And the owners?!?! Those guys were amazing. I cannot say more about how passionate, friendly, and service oriented they are. In fact, the week before I moved I asked if they would be brewing my favorite roast anytime soon so I could stock up before the move. Not only did he roast a special batch for me (not served to regular customers that day), he hand picked the best out of several batches, put it in a 1 pound bag, and saved it for me until I arrived. And it was the best ever. The atmosphere is always clean inside with a gorgeous display case of coffee paraphenalia and the spread of beans for sale. Worth every single dollar and as soon as cloning is perfected they absolutely have to branch out. Thanks guys!

I was passing through for a class, and happened on this little hidden treasure. Never having been there, I asked for a recommendation and got the New Orleans iced coffee. Holy moly it was the best thing ever to hit my lips (apologies to any ex, present, or future boyfriends for this comment). And I'll admit it, I AM a coffee snob. No indoor seating, just a to-go counter. Probably wise, because I'm sure people would sit there all day drinking cup after cup in coffee bliss.

Love this place......they give a coffee experience unlike any other in town. a little hard to find but worth every penny!

Bill and Angela both reviewed Redband coffee and I agree whole-heartedly with them. Coffee has never been better! As I type this, I'm enjoying an Ethiopian Harrar, just a basic drip (but done like nowhere else). It has a full-bodied but smooth feel, a complex blend of flavor & aroma with a hint of sweetness that includes a berry taste followed by a hint of cocoa. For the uninitiated that description probably sounds like nonsense, and to be frank, I'm slightly amused at the conversion I've made...from being a non-coffee drinker just a few years ago to a self-proclaimed connoisseur / border-line coffee snob now. I got hooked on good coffee in Guatemala several years ago, and once my "smuggled stash" of beans from Antigua were gone, I was extremely disappointed by Folgers, Maxwell House, Dunkin' Donuts, and the omnipresent Starbucks. (I seriously don't know how people do that stuff!?!) Anyway, Redband Rules and I regret living 2 states away!

  • Bill S.

How can you not love a place that is local, roasts their own beans, makes a terrific drip coffee, blows Starbucks away with espresso drinks, and has an iced coffee I could drink every day?

Absolutely wonderful coffee shop. Freshly roasted and brewed. Very impressed and would highly encourage any coffee lovers to visit.

  • Bill M.

If you like coffee, you owe it to yourself to go to Redband. Yes, it's that good. Why? Because the folks who run it know coffee and care about coffee and are passionate about all things coffee. And the proof is in the taste. All the roasting is done in house, so what you get can vary from day to day. Even if they're roasting the same type of coffee on two consecutive days, minor meteorological or technical differences can create subtle yet noticeable variations in the coffee. Despite this, every brew I've had has been nothing short of spectacular. Part of that also comes from the preparation. Every cup of hot coffee is individually prepared. It's not poured from a carafe or pumped from a thermos. No, it's brewed through a cone filter with hot water at a very specific temperature and dripped into your cup for your consumption. Now, if you go to Redband expecting some fancy Starbucks-type thing, you'll be disappointed. They have a couple espresso-based drinks, but nothing blended, nothing remotely close to a frappuccino, and nothing with sprinkles on it. Folks don't go to Redband to get something with a hint of coffee and a lot of sugar. They go because they want to taste the coffee. Besides hot coffee, they also make an excellent New Orleans-style iced coffee - brewed cold and sweetened just enough to be refreshing on a warm day. Bottom line - this is coffee Nirvana, folks. It doesn't get better than this.

Honestly the best cup of coffee, iced or not, I've had in years. The man in charge takes things very seriously, and it comes through in his performance. No frills, no seating, just amazing coffee.

Truly the best coffee I have ever had. Believe everything you read here and check it out if you are in the area. Even if you are driving down I80 it is worth going out of your way to hop off the interstate and check this place out. I just get the basic pour over, however my GF swears by the Iced Coffee.

We love scouring around for great independently-owned coffee houses in the cities we travel to. We weren't expecting to find something as fine as Redband in Davenport. When I read the review here that praises the lack of acidity and smooth finish of their coffee, I had a gut feeling we were going to like this! Sure enough, Redband's espresso measures up to the best. It compared to places we found in Napa/Sonoma where the purveyors roast their own beans, and to the coffee in Bologna, Italy, which all seems to be perfect---and other special cafes we've discovered when we're lucky. So many places (sorry, Starbucks) confuse a strong roast with burnt beans. It must be quite an art to get really full body without acquiring that edge which can be so unpleasant. The art is a combination of the beans, the roast, the machine, and the barrista. Bravo Redband!

Best espresso drinks around, with friendly service. Their espresso shows up in Great River Brewing's excellent "Redband Stout."

I've been in Iowa for work for 2 month and desperate for good coffee. I knew I'd found home when I saw New Orleans Iced Coffee on the menu. I'm a Blue Bottle devotee, but this place might rival it. AMAZING

They roast coffee in small batches in one of their gas fired Probat roasters on site. They sell fresh roasted whole bean bagged coffees, along with espresso based drinks, individually prepared drip coffees and an eighteen hour cold brewed, iced coffee. This place is for the coffee connoisseur.

  • Anthony P.

We passed through here on a trip and made sure to get a morning coffee from a local place. We were not disappointed with our choice. This is strictly a to-go place. Don't come here expecting to spend an afternoon at the coffee shop. But it served our purposes well enough. The barista was friendly beyond expectations. I'm upset that I forgot her name to mention it in the review. I'm not a coffee snob; I don't know that I could distinguish some rare blend from another. I have ordered coffee from enough chains and otherwise, and I do know that I thoroughly enjoyed my latte from here.

  • Laura H.

I lived in Seattle for about 5 years, and with that comes coffee snobbery. This place competes with Seattle bean expertise, if not exceeds it. From what it appears everything is concepted, roasted, and presented in house. If you'd like to use the restroom you'll have to maneuver over burlap bags full of beans - which I find to be perfectly acceptable to the experience of this joint. Because these roasts are so diligently handcrafted, I am definitely willing to pay more for their coffee. If you are looking for an average cup of joe, you can go pay a little less at Starbucks and get just that. For a few more cents, check out Redband and get your money's worth. You'll maybe learn a little something too. I got the chicory iced coffee. No need to add anything, it's all done for you. And it's perfect. Even better than the one I had in New Orleans. Also the dudes behind the counter are pretty colorful - or perhaps over-caffeinated. Either way they're fun, knowledgeable, and fast. If I'm ever back in Davenport I'll be coming here for sure.

I'm on a quest to find the best vanilla latte ever, and my journey ended this morning. Hubby ordered black coffee (I forget the blend he chose, but the flavor profile was "nutty, caramel, cocoa"). We both ordered sausage breakfast sandwiches. Everything was Amazing. The vanilla latte was just incredible (might ask for a touch less sweetness next time), the brewed coffee was my husband's all time favorite-- virtually no acidity and very nutty. The sandwiches were just perfect-- fresh, with smoked Gouda, salt, and pepper to season. Unbelievably delicious. Beans are roasted on site, which was fun to watch. There is no seating, so things got crowded super quick in there... Wish it could be streamlined better so that I didn't feel "in the way" while waiting for my drink. We don't live anywhere near the quad cities, but I'm sure this is going to become a necessary stop for us en route to Chicago from now on!

  • Meghan H.

The one on one barista service here is one of the best. They sold me by offering to concoct me a brown-sugar latte (because I can't have white sugar) remember it every time I come through in a way that is warm and friendly- and not thirsty for a tip. Delicious chorizo and egg sandwiches. The icing on the good-service cake was when I brought my dog through the drive-in, and they reached behind the counter, and had dog treats ready to go. Love it.

  • Val F.

No kidding - the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had in my life! I ordered the sausage sandwich & an iced coffee to go at the downtown location. Extremely quick service from a very friendly staff! This was my first visit to Redband & I was not disappointed one bit. I will be back....probably this afternoon for another coffee!

I was looking for good coffee while I was passing through the QC. I read about Redband being "a step above the rest" which I am unable to confirm since this was the only place I tried while in town. However, I can say that they did pour the best damn cup of coffee I've ever had! I got a pour over of Indian Monsooned Malabar. Flipping amazing!!! Smooth as butter and nutty... Just the way I love my brew. I will definitely go out of my way to get another cup next time I'm passing through. The vanilla latte is also legit!

I'm not from the quad cities I'm actually from San Jose, CA and I can tell you even in comparison to all the coffee shops I've tried know California, Red Band is probably one of the best places I've ever bought coffee from. I usually get the vanilla latte and new orleans iced coffee and the coffee here always has the perfect amount of sweetness. It's not too sweet and the coffee is always very flavorful. The coffee also to me always has the perfect amount of creamy taste, making it not too rich. I definitely wish there was a location back in California.

Stopped in for the New Orleans style Iced Coffee! Absolutely delicious! If your in the quad cities area you must stop here. I am always on search for great coffee when on vacation & these guys do a great job roasting!

Hello everyone my name is Ted, and I'm a red band a holic I cannot get enough of this coffee. When I take even as much as one sip of this dripped goodness, it triggers an allergy that causes me to want more. Left to my own devices, I am unable to stop. When I do stop drinking this coffee, I am unable to manage the decision to stay stopped. Not me. I am truly powerless. Ive tried coffee everywhere, and nothing compares. I have learned to accept my fate and know there is no cure for this powerful condition of mine. Judging from the constant stream of customers, I am not alone. So yummy

I was in Davenport on a mini vacation to visit a friend and discovered this little coffee shop in what looks like in a very old gas station building. The coffee is your average price for a locally roasted brewer ($15-$22 WB bag) I had the New Orleans Style Ice Coffee which was WONDERFUL! Would for sure be back when I'm in the area next!
