This is our family go to place! Kids always get cheese quesadillas and my husband and I always get the Guadalajara special. It's a giant plate of everything! I've gotten stomach aches from other Mexican restaurants, but never from Los agaves. Service is usually pretty good and friendly. Only had one bad experience and I can only assume she was brand new. Also, their spicy steak tacos (steak Jalisco?) are so good. Extra spicy though, but amazing still. I say check this joint out.

Overly attentive service. Asking from thirty seconds to two minutes if everything was OK or if we needed anything. I ordered the Carnitas. The pork was bland and dry. Absolutely no seasoning. Generous portions, but who wants more when the food is bad. Plus they messed up my friends order which was just beef tacos with cheese. How do you mess that up. Will not be coming back.

I regularly enjoy visiting this restaurant as it meets most of my needs! Service is always good. White queso dip is amazing. The chicken quesadilla is what I get every time and I am always satisfied by it! One con is that they only have Pibb xtra and not Dr. Pepper. If they had my soda of choice, five stars all the way!

Not good @ all. Lunch special 11-3. I ordered at 2:59 they wouldn't give me special. Asked manager. He said no. So stupid. Going to Azteca from now on. They are super nice - new one at 5-points great! Feel angry about Los agaves. They ruined my time.

Overall the staff was kind and attentive (not overly-so), the food/drinks were fine and what I expected for the price, and the establishment was clean and well-maintained. My only real complaint is that I ordered dessert (I had already eaten dinner elsewhere) and expected to get it at the same time as the other people in my group but, instead, we had to remind our waiter that I'd ordered it after everyone had eaten and, instead of admitting that he'd forgotten to put the order in, he claimed that he didn't realize I'd ordered anything (this is after he asked me to repeat my order to him when we were ordering). The waiter brought my dish out quickly after we reminded him but it bothered me that he tried to pretend he hadn't heard me. It's understandable to mess up every once in a while. Just admit it and apologize!

Kind of bad. Red wine was served warm, carne asada was a super-cheap cut of tough old cow with barely any flavor.

We had excellent service, our food arrived quickly and it was hot and delicious. The servings were large, we will go back again.

So the chips are good, especially when they're still warm, the salsa is a little runny for my taste, but for me the star is the steak "el grande burrito". It may not be authentic, but its so delicious that if I could give more stars, I would

Great Mexican food, and the waitstaff is easy on the eyes too. Have never had a bad meal, and they are friendly. Great salsa and chips Best in Davenport.

Ordered takeout and it was a pleasant surprise that chips and salsa came with meals to go. I ordered 3 tacos, one chicken, beef, and shredded beef. All were soggy and sloppy but of the three the shredded beef was enjoyable. The other two were tasteless and dry. Staff was friendly but the mens restroom was a wreck.

We live right near this restaurant. We were so disappointed from the beginning. It started as soon as we walked in the door, this smell hit us, a mix of bathroom, cleaning product, and stale oil. Fly's swarmed around us our whole meal, and the fajitas were the blandest thing I had ever eaten. Will not be back.

Used to really enjoy coming here because the quality of food and service were both excellent. Both have gotten worse successively the last couple visits. The food still comes very quick but beyond that I would almost rather go to a fast food Mexican restaurant. Today will be our last visit here.

Thought we'd give this place a try since we usually go to Azteca, just to mix things up. We were seated at a table that had crumbs all over it, and I noticed right away an odorous smell about the space, like urine..Both these factors combined immediately told my brain not to order food. If it smelled like this out HERE, what did it smell like back in the kitchens?? I didn't order any food, but my friend did. Though she didn't comment on how the dish actually tasted, she was disappointed that they put onions in it after she specifically asked the waiter for no onions. I ordered a nine dollar strawberry frozen margarita, and was really disappointed that I couldn't taste even the slightest hint of tequila, and didn't even walk away with a buzz. Our waiter was also no where to be found for most of the time. My friend tried to flag him down on three separate occasions to ask for hot sauce, he never came over to see how our meal was, and in general, I mostly don't even remember him being there for more than 10 seconds at a time..One time to order, one time to give us a check. Azteca margaritas are about the same price as here, taste MUCH better and less "virginy" by a long shot....Shot.....get it? *ba dum tch* Azteca tables are typically clean, and their wait staff is extremely friendly. So I will no longer be coming Los Agaves. Tried it, not impressed.

The salsa was poor... tomato sauce with a couple flecks of cilantro. Thank God there was hot sauce on the table to spice it up. I ordered the shrimp and crab fajitas. My plate came to the table 5 minutes before anybody else got their order. My tortillas, beans and rice and condiments came 5 minutes after I received the hot plate. The crab was imitation crab, however, the menu said crab... not imitation crab. I couldn't eat it so I told the waiter. The waiter informed the manager and he brought me 6 additional pieces of shrimp. The food was bland... again... thank God for the bottle of hot sauce on the table. Service was mediocre. It was tough to get a drink refill. The taco salad and quesadillas were passable. No complaints from the kids. My husband had the carnitas and said they were good. When the bill came, my entree was charged more than the price on the menu. Guess I paid for the extra "freebie" shrimp. Overall, a disappointing experience.

After driving by soooo many times, we finally stopped...shoulda kept driving. The building itself has changed hands many times, and it shows. Upon entering the first thing that comes to mind is "RENOVATION" ! 1)The walls need painted. 2) The ceiling needs changed/painted as it is still stained from years of cigarette smoke(which was outlawed in this state around 4 years ago) 3) The doors to the restrooms had holes in them...the hole in the ladies room door was CLEARLY from someone's fist!(perhaps a waiter got a lousy tip?!) 4) The restrooms were needing cleaning badly! Mildew in a public restroom is not good! The food....it was good. Not great, but good. At least the silverware was clean. Service was good too, and the prices were average. Will I go again? No. I like a nice clean place when I sit down for a meal. I have been to Mexico a few times, and the restaurants there were kept up better than this.

I got my order to go. It was fast, and they included chips and salsa. I asked for sour cream on the side.. I did not receive it. The meal was pretty ok.

I just looked this place up for the heck of it and discovered it's low rating. This is CRAZY. I will say right away that I haven't visited Los Agaves in 2 years, but heck it doesn't look like most of these other reviewers have either. I hope it hasn't tanked in the last 2 years. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in the world. No joke - I've never found a place that can outdo Los Agaves. I've tried finding a place even equivalent in all the other cities I've lived in, and I can't (Des Moines, Iowa City, Jacksonville, Atlanta). I always ordered the fajita quesadilla here. It was always amazingly delicious and the service is impeccable. Every time I visited (usually during dinner time on Fri and Sat nights) there were so many people working that they were able to stand around and talk. It wasn't annoying at all because their service was impeccable and amazing. Super fast, efficient, courteous, and always looking out for me. I cannot recommend this place enough.

4 stars? Ok, coming from a Mexican/italian this is so far from authentic Mexican it's shameful! The decor looks as if it was an old Denny's converted into a Mexican Puebla. The food was fast, that I will give them. However, the food once arrived, was tasteless and I felt like the Mexicans that work there just laughed at all these weditos eating this crap up like it's amazing. The best test for an authentic Mexican restaurant is to ask if they make "Lengua" if they say no, it's a given that you will receive Pepe's quality food. Now, if you don't know Authentic Mexican cuisine and you find this place thrilling, then keep going. PS: if they have anything on the menu that has "Ground beef" that is another indicator that the food is not authentic Mexican. We will never return to this place.

Service and were unremarkable. Plates were sloppy and almost dropped on the table - the the waiter left. In the middle of the day after lunch (say 1:30) with maybe 3-4 other tables occupied, you would think someone would have cared about us. That's it - I got it now.... They just didn't care....

Good salsa and chips, very nice margaritas on the rocks with Presidente. Nice fajitas, chicken, and chilaquiles...though not entirely authentic Mexican. Didn't have room for dessert. Got a really good laugh at the two drunk new best friends at the bar since we were sitting at a table by the restroom to the side of the bar.

I've eaten here several times and have always enjoyed it untill last week. The food that my wife and I ordered was all smothered in white cheese sauce that tasted nasty! We eat a lot of mexican all over the country and mexico and this was a new first. Do not eat the cheese sauce! Oscar was a great waiter, but we won't eat here untill they get a clue how to be more authentic.

Stopped in here for lunch. Good salsa with the chips, good selection of lunch entrees. I got a beef chimichanga. The beef was surprisingly well-done. They did not give me the crappy parts of overcooked beef as is all-to-common with mexican restaurants. These were quality squares of good beef. Very much enjoyed it.

First time here. Not a fan. Ordered 1 quesadilla and it was more of a loose meat soft shell taco. Tasted sort of bland and had to douse I with hot sauce and sour cream. Don't plan on returning.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
