Probably the best Chinese food in the QCA but that isn't saying much. It really is hit or miss. I've had good quality meat one time and the next gotten fatty cheap meat.

Your typical Chinese take out. Don't expect more. But I'd give it 3-stars when comparing to other Chinese take out places. The portions are huge. We ordered a beef and broccoli combination plate - $6.99 (came with half the amount of meat and broccoli, fried rice, and two crab rangoons, which we asked for instead of an eggroll), and kung pao chicken with peanuts - full order $8.29 (which came with double the amount of the main entree as the combination plate and fried rice on the side). The portions were huge (this is basically why I'm giving 3 stars), taste was normal and what we expected. However, I wish the kung pao chicken had more peanuts. I probably averaged one peanut every 4 bites, and I wish I had at least one peanut in each bite. We also ordered a large order of wonton egg drop soup. The 2 dishes plus the soup lasted us about two meals, with a few bites leftover. Definitely worth the price for an average Chinese take out. Unfortunately, they didn't give us a sweet and sour sauce for our crab rangoons. Not sure if it usually comes with it, but you should probably ask in case they forgot it. Would have been a lot better. The wonton egg drop soup was okay. The egg drop soup part tasted like normal egg drop soup, but the taste of the wonton's weren't so great. I guess I'm used to shrimp wontons and this one was beef or something. Anyway, I'd come again if I wanted Chinese take out for the huge portions.

I was given the wrong item for carry out. I called and explained their mistake and expected them to make my original order. Living 10 miles away, at the least, I expected an apology. Nope. The manager said it was NoT their mistake and that I should take the wrong order back to them. She said their receptionist always repeats the order back so it was my fault. Whhhhhhaaat? She also wanted to charge me the difference (prob $1) between the meals. Will absolutely never return. Worst service ever

Fried rice was undered seasoned and the chicken had an odd texture. Staff was very friendly and the rangoons were fast and tasty.

Perfect for my tastes. The first time I came here, I was so surprised by the lack of saltiness/grease in the dish that I couldn't finish it haha (they also have huge servings, yay for leftovers!). China Cafe definitely has less flavor than other restaurants, but it's because they proudly use 0 MSG (as proclaimed on their menu)! Hence why they seem to have little flavor. I loved it though because the taste of the ingredients on their own comes through, and you won't feel greasy afterward. Also, the egg foo young is huge and delicious, and comes with a generous side of rice!

Very good food for a reasonable price. Lunch specials are a great deal. Added bonus, they don't use MSG. Delivery is always quick.

I've been craving chinese, chicken low mein specifically, something fierce and couldn't take it anymore. I'd heard good things about this place from someone at work so we decided to take a chance on it. We ordered steamed dumplings, chicken low mein and sweet sour chicken. The low mein was great. Not too greasy, full of vegetables and decent sized pieces of chicken. It hit the spot and took care of my craving. The steamed dumplings were disgusting and I was so disappointed. They're almost watery, if you can imagine that, and just a really bland taste of disappointment is left in your mouth. The boyfriend said his sweet and sour chicken was okay but I mean, how can you mess that up? The service was good. Both servers were really friendly and didn't mind answering my annoying questions. This place does okay in a pinch but I'd probably go else where next time.

The food is above average and it is very quick but the service is terrible. They are very rude and treat their customers terribly. I would not go again but it is cheap and in a good location.

Used to get food at this place in 2012, but we stopped because the food and service went down in quality. We tried again a couple weeks ago (2014) and the food was just terrible. We ordered delivery - it took 1.5 hours and the food tasted (and looked) old. We won't be back, it was gross.

I've been a regular at the 53rd Street location since its opening, so this might be a bit biased. That said, I keep going back because the service is great and the food is delicious! I've gone with picky eaters and as long as you're clear about what you want the staff gladly accommodates special requests.

It's one of my wife's and my favorite Chinese places in the Quad Cities. Not everything is going to blow you away at every restaurant you visit, but I will suggest the Tai Chen Chicken to everyone. It's great!

While not my favorite in this area, the China Cafe is consistently good in my experience. There is no weakness, though I do not recall any standout items. The portions are generous which is good on its own.

I used to enjoy this food, but I cannot stand it when a restaurant doesn't value its customers. Two times in a row now we have ordered online for delivery. Both times we called because it took so long and they claim they "never got the order" even though I received confirmation emails with confirmation numbers each time. When I asked what they would do to make it right, the only thing they offered was to put the order in again. OWN UP TO YOUR OWN MISTAKES! I told them they lost a few customers for good and they just said "ok" and hung up.

First time. The quality of the beef and vegetables was very good, which is a huge plus in my book, but all three dishes lacked any kind of flavor. We had sesame chicken, Hunan beef and shrimp with garlic sauce. Even the crab Rangoon didn't have much flavor.

I went to China Cafe last Sunday for dinner with my boyfriend we are from Chicago and heard good reviews. This was by far the WORST chineese food I have ever eaten. I ordered Sizzling rice soup which is always brought to the table with the rice on the side for the SIZZLE effect instead I was brought some nasty brown broth and the crispy rice was sitting on top of the soup with a cover which would have been fine if it was not supposed to be sizzling and crispy they brought me mashy goopy soggy rice in a brown salty liquid Every Chineese restaurant I have ever been to serves it on the side or they pour it on as they serve it. My boyfriend ordered crispy wontons they brought instead greasy rangoon I guess they didnt understand what wontons were. The entrees we beef and brocolli and shrimp w vegatables tasteless and the sauce had zero flavor the egg rolls were all oil and no flavor. The waitress came over and saw that I had not even touched the meal and that I had removed all the rice from the bowl she asked if I wanted to save it I said NO she did not even question why I was returming a full meal.

Worst Chinese in a town of bad Chinese food. We got Chicken Fried Rice and it was all chicken fat, no meat.

The staff were extremely nice. However, the food was tasteless. The hot and sour soup was so thick that a spoon will stand in it. The chicken with cashews had not taste at all. But they served a lot of food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly.
