Primos is a great Mexican restaurant! We got there right as they were opening for the day (11 am). We were seated immediately and they took our drink order. Our server (Raquel) was a superstar and seemed to know exactly when she needed to swing by our table for food order, drink refills, and was very good at ensuring our complicated orders perfect. I ordered the chicken flauta without cheese or sour cream and my co-worker order quesadilla with shrimp and a beef taco. Our food came out in a very timely manner and was very tasty! I will plan on coming back here next time I am in Council Bluffs!

Lunch service was excellent - quick and courteous. I had a #1 - 2 chicken tacos. Beans and rice. The shell on the taco is deep fried. It was really good. I highly recommend. Only downside is that it's basically a Mexican decorated sports bar. If you can get past the decor, you'll love the food.

This is a decent place where I have had some good food and some passable food. This time I ordered a taco salad (yeah I know, not authentic), and it was flavorful with a good presentation. It was priced right at $7.99 and came with salsa and ranch. The guacamole has just the right seasoning and served with warm chips. It was creamy, and a large serving. Worth coming back to try more menu options.

Two steak tacos cost me 750. What a joke. There was maybe a table spoon of meat on a tiny tortilla and the hot sauce tasted like the only seasoning they used was salt, and lots of it. I gave it two stars only because my boyfriend's Torta looked pretty good.

Primos is aptly named all the way around. It starts with what may be the most tasteful re-purposing of an old convenience store I've ever seen. A prompt friendly greeting from our server followed with warm, homemade chips and salsa with just the perfect combination of flavor and kick. I ordered a lunch combo enchilada, taco (both beef) with refried beans and rice, Anne had two beef tacos in a combo. Several minutes later our meals arrived on warm (not hot) plates. So many Mexican places make all their tacos and enchiladas in advance and then just nuke the hell out of 'em, slop on some salsa and serve it. This was obviously made from scratch mexican-american food and it was excellent in every way! After having lived in Southern Arizona for a few years I realize that regional differences exist even that close to the border so the whole "authentic of not" conversation is not relevant either here or in Tucson. What matters is good food that is well prepared and thoughtfully presented. Primos does just exactly that and I've found my new go-to Mexican Restaurant.

Food is good, but the management is rude and unhelpful. We waited 30+ minutes for menu and free chips, and the manager blamed us. My sister didn't have food after being here for an hour and twenty minutes. Our waitress Cari was nice, and she tried to apologize for the management, but the rudeness from the people in charge is inexcusable.

Decent mexican-american food. The place was full so they are doing something right. Ordered queso and guacamole to start - queso was good - guacamole was past it's prime. For entrees we ordered the special burrito, tamale platter and carne asada tacos. Burrito was ok but green chile was just a salsa verde, tamales and chile con carne were good, carne asada tacos were served in a deep fried shell - odd. Service was great, beer was semi cold and food was fair.

This place is worth all of its "hype" and more! Brian and I went here after dropping off the kiddos...so when we saw how small the place was (parking lot even smaller) we were a little doubtful. The site was once a Kum m Go afterall! After scoring a spot just off the street, we walked in to either seating at the bar or the last booth..SCORE! Their tap list was a little limited but it was helped by a pretty healthy bottled beer list. The server was very friendly and met us very quickly with chips and homemade salsa - we must have looked famished. We ordered beers and asked for what they were famous for. She had some great suggestions - but the one that stuck out...2 day marinated carne asada. I ordered a CA taco & chile rellano plate, my DH ordered a chile rellano and burrito plate. It came and we were amazed at the flavors!! Everything was wonderful. Now if no one had already reviewed Primo's before this...I might wonder if this was merely the initial joy of havng my husband all to my self..but no. You will not be disappointed...as long as you get a seat.

Good Chips and Salsa. The Trolley Tamale was delicious. Their draft beer selection was not at all impressive, they did have an acceptable selection of bottled beer. But the food is definitely the reason to put this place on the normal rotation.

Hubby, son and his GF, and I went to Primas for Valentine's Day dinner this week. The place was packed, we had to wait for a table to get cleared, but once we were seated, we were greeted by a server who took our drink order right away. Complementary chips and hot sauce served quickly - the chips are really good and easy to fill up on before you even get your food! Our food order took a little time to serve, but was well worth the wait. It was obvious things were home made, not just warmed in a microwave or sitting on a steam table somewhere. Hubby ordered a tamale platter, son had a 3- choice combo (beef enchilada, chicken enchilada, beef/bean burrito), GF had a taco salad, and I had a 2- choice combo (chicken enchilada, chili relleno) with a side of guacamole. The servings were good sized, and the platter and combo meals came with refried beans and rice. I wouldn't recommend the burrito (son didn't like it, and I tasted it, it was dry and not very well seasoned) or the chili relleno, which was also sort of blah. The enchildas, tamales, and taco salad were excellent however. The guac was fresh and had nice chunks of avocado in it, again, everything was obviously home made and fresh. We will go back to Primas, way better than any chain or other local Mexican restaurants! Primas is sort of a hole-in-the-wall, but definitely an excellent find.

Probably the best repurposing of a Kwik Shop ever!!! this place rocks, the burritos are great, real ground beef filling and a wonderful collection of seasonings make them awesome. The chicken enchilada's are also at the top of my list as well as the taco's. Then there is this monstrosity of a cheeseburger...grilled onion, jalapenos, bacon, cheese, not one but 2 patties of beef...it is all you can do to eat half of it. And the chips & salsa are extremely good too. It is off the beaten path, but worth looking for, and when they have specials, they are even more incredible. We just discovered this place recently but have been back several times and it is always the same...great!

I would have loved to have given 5 stars because the food and margaritas were all awesome, but the service was almost comical! We had server after server walk past us and not even acknowledge we were even waiting, even though the sign said please wait to be seated. When we finally got sat it was by both a man and woman. We had 6 of us so we decided what we wanted to eat and drink all the while we had no napkins, silverware, etc. I notice other patrons being seated and waited on that came in after us so I flagged the waitress down. She asked us who sat us, this is where it's comical, I said you were the one that sat us. So that got straightened out. For that rest of the meal we had to ask for EVERYTHING. I didn't feel like it was just us being singled out as I watch other diners coming in grumbling about the service and even hear one gentleman call out a waitress because she kept walking by them and not acknowledging them either. I hope someone from the restaurant reads this and hopefully addresses at least the staff acknowledging the customers because they have great food!

Family owned, homemade Mexican food. Used to be a 7 Eleven, and now is a fun place to eat for kids and adults. Chips and salsa are great, margaritas are yummy, and the food is fantastic. No matter if you are ordering from one of the meal choices or one of the specials you will find something you like. The people are great, and even when they are busy someone will keep your drink refilled. A good bargain too, and there is a family atmosphere.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
