I'm familiar with Chipotle and Q-doba. But Panchero's doesn't exist where I live. I'd say all three are of relatively equal quality. Panchero's gains *major* points because they make the tortilla right in front of you. Seriously. They grab a ball of dough and flatten it right there. Then they throw it on the grill. This is the best invention ever. Burrito fixin's aren't quite as good as Chipotle, but they're good. And when you're all done, they actually mix every thing together before wrapping the burrito. How genius is that??? Sometimes I get a bite of Chipotle burrito that's like 98% rice. No threat of that with Panchero's. This is a solid lunch staple, and I am a fan. Gracias, Panchero's.

Okay, so first of all, put out of your head any comparisons to Chipotle or Qdoba. YES, they all are very similar. The point is that the difference is minimal. The food is in fact fresh, and they do mix up the ingredients, which I find very helpful. I live in Cedar Rapids, and the Panchero's by Lindale Mall has excellent staff, I always get a good laugh out of talking to them. If you like Chipotle/Qdoba, any of that sort of Mexi-Grill experience, then Panchero's is just as good. And rating the place because of a family you saw eating there? Shameful. Please keep reviews to pertinent info.

Best burritos! I always crave the panchies burritos. Their tortilla is always pressed fresh and is yummy. You get to pick whatever you want in the burrito. My favorite burrito? Steak, black beans, rice, hot salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream! Yummm!!!!

Terrible, but not the worst chipotle grill much better.

I'm no stranger to a burrito. I've lived in various cities and each one has its requisite fast-food Mexican joint: Chipotle, Qdoba, Baja Fresh. Panchero's is in the same category, but it definitely gets the lowest mark of all four in my opinion. Here's what they do right: tortillas pressed fresh in front of you, and mixing up ingredients at the end before they wrap it up for you. (I agree with another reviewer that sometimes you bite into Chipotle and it's all rice, so they do get points for the mix.) I had a vegetarian burrito because the meat options all looked like they weren't the best quality. What really turned me off though, was that the burrito was put on a small plate with the sides hanging off and dragged across the counter. I'm not a germaphobe but I wouldn't even do that with my kitchen counter at home. Putting fresh gloves on doesn't make up for my food wiping across a counter and then hanging over into the bowls of toppings. The restaurant looked clean overall, but that just feels unsanitary to me. The taste was bland at best, with the price being higher than other spots that do this much better. I think this is a one and done for me.

Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's just my changing tastes, but I miss the original Panchero's. For some reason whenever I am visiting now I still go back for a meal there but I think the last time was indeed my last time. I've eaten a bunch of burritos in my days, a bunch, and the one at Panchero's is just meh. While I love the fresh tortilla, the rest of the ingredients are kind of bland tasting. Maybe it's because they mix everything together before rolling it up. Whatever it is, it just reminds me to stick to my no Mexican food rule when I come back up here.

Great burrito stop. Not as good as Chipotle's but pretty darn close. I'm from Cali, my son took me here during my visit to Iowa, good stuff!

Ugh. Conveyor belt much? The dude barely listened to a word I said, he threw my food in the bowl and portions are tiny for the price!!!

We stopped at Panchero's after a long day of driving. We were hoping it would stand up to Chipotle, but unfortunately, we were disappointed. They had less options for meat and toppings, though the portions were similar. We both ordered bowls, drinks, plus a side of guac and chips. I will say the best part of the meal were the chips. The guac was okay, but the more we ate the funkier it tasted (maybe since it was later in the day?). The restaurant was especially clean and the employees weren't terribly concerned with interrupting their conversation to help customers. I highly doubt we go back.

Great lunch spot. Long lines? Posh. These people keep it moving. My only complaint is that sometimes rogue meat chunks find their way into the vegetables.

A sad, sad attempt at a burrito. I've lived many years on Cal-Mex food, and Panchero's sadly was not able to satisfy my cravings. When compared to a burrito from a taqueria in California, Panchero's tastes like garbage. When compared to Chipotle or the rest of the gross Americanized Mexican food you get in Iowa City, it's a decent burrito. I learned in California that if you have to pay more than $5.50 for a burrito, it's not going to be a good burrito. Panchero's proved it true.

Godawful Schlock that is not fit for human consumption. I wish it were possible to give it a negative star rating.

My Panchero's experience was tainted by an EXTREMELY poorly behaved family sitting behind me- let's call them the Terror Family. The Terror Children were jumping on the booth, swinging the light fixture (and burning their hand multiple times as a result), throwing food (!?!?!?), screaming, and reaching their filthy hands into MY booth to grab at the blinds, all while the parents (military parents at that!) ignored the children. Lots of the other patrons looked on in horror, and I think I bonded with a few of them as a result. Terror Dad must have loudly uttered the phrase "potty biscuit" at least 10 times. Yeah, that's what I want to hear while eating. Terror Child #1 actually knocked down the CRUTCHES of another patron while running freely through the restaurant. I will try to divorce my opinion of the restaurant from the Terror Family, but it might be tough. Also, I think in this extreme of a case the restaurant workers should have asked the family to control their children, much like they might ask a highly intoxicated person to leave. Perhaps they should even have called the cops or family services, the Terror Family was honestly just that out of control. Thankfully the Terror Family left half way through my dinner, letting the Terror Children run free around the busy parking lot on the way out while Terror Child #2 put his soda into a mailbox. Seriously, Terror Family haunts me. And we wonder why our country has gone to pot?!? Ok, the food. We were driving through the area and looking for a quick place to stop near I-80. Panchero's was ok for this, it was cheap and fast and not too much food. The business model was very reminiscent of Chipotle, but I'm sorry to say the food wasn't quite as good, which isn't saying much. My tacos were kinda bland and the tortilla tasted a little bit soapy. The staff wasn't very attentive to making the food, so the preparation was a bit sloppy, making the tacos hard to eat. Really, it wasn't that special, and I wouldn't go there if I lived in the area, but I would consider trying it again if cruising through Iowa on my next road trip, mostly because of the close proximity to the interstate and because it was one step up from regular fast food. Just watch out for the Terror Family......

Looove Panchero's. This place is also a well-oiled machine when it comes to moving customers through the line. You probably would be too if your corporate headquarters was just down the street. I am also digging their green verde sauce.

The other day, in a fit of delirium, I let my Californian burrito pangs steer me into Panchero's. I'd gone there only once before, when I first moved into town, and then watched the probably underpaid employee constructing my sad excuse of a burrito let a glop of beans drop into the salsa dish without reaction. This time, I opened the door and found the entire place was thick with smoke from something burning in the kitchen. Oddly, none of the patrons seemed to notice. Dear God please let people not mistake this place for a good Mexican place. They know not what they think. Just because it's better than the behemoth Chipotle and boasts some stale gesture of local pride does not mean their product is anywhere near as good as it could be.

Panchero's in Corlaville provides the same delicious flavors as the original downtown Iowa City locations. The tortillas are always made fresh and are always delicious. The salsas are homemade and consistently great! I would highly recommend the corn salsa. Best place to get a burrito in the area!

One word, CHIPOTLE. Don't even enter the door at this place. If chef boyardee cooked Mexican, this is exactly what you would get on a plate. When you can't finish your meal because the food is so bad, you know something isn't right. So, go to the best option they have in the area, Chipotle. It's fresh, good for you, tastes excellent and is the right price.

You couldn't make a better burrito. It's just not possible.
