Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I love some thin crust pizza with a light sauce and fresh mozzarella. The crust was crispy but chewy. Ambiance was not elegant, felt kind of like a bigger chain, but the pizza was the MVP of this experience. When I'm looking for excellent thin crust pizza, this is the go-to place in the Des Moines area.

The food wasn't good. It tasted like nothing. I ordered the sausage bella and it was bad. I didn't finish, and I love pizza. The salads were basically from McDonald's. I won't go again; go to the OP down the street. Here's where I might draw some people in and hopefully I'm not being offensive, but this pizza place is fast and cheap and it's really what turned me away. It's obviously a family-friendly restaurant; there are tons of loud kids running everywhere and multiple families. If that's your thing, then this is you. This restaurant was not me; that's not my type of atmosphere. I'm telling you, if you have lots of kids with you, that is seriously what they want here, they seemed to be having a good time. But do NOT take a date here.

The pizza has changed, very skimpy for the price. They also get very upset with you if you go and if someone gets a table why you order. which makes no sense to me at all, the manager actually walked up and told my daughter that she can't do this again. but a group of boys from Dowling which were my daughter graduated from did the same thing and he didn't say a word to them. actually there was four tables that did the same thing and the manager didn't say anything to anybody besides the young girl which i think is horrible and very upsetting that a manager would pick on a young girl.

Updated review. We have gone on a regular basis for a long while now. Couple years at least. We kinda stick with the food we love. I'm regularly getting quick lunch or half Caesar salad. Mom is gluten free so is limited on her selection. We believe there is new management for at least a few months now. He is normally at the counter taking orders and very friendly. The thing we think had changed is the salads. The"mixed greens" in a salad had become mostly iceberg with a very small bit of the other greens. It's not as nutritious and the size has seemed to be a little smaller for the same price. She mentioned something to him and yet it comes out almost all iceberg. So with the limited options for her we might have to look elsewhere. Really disappointing cause otherwise the food is really good. She really did love the salads.

I love the concept of this restaurant. Very similar to Noodles and Company concept. You walk in, place an order at a counter, find a table and then the pizza is brought to you. Much better than a traditional sit-down restaurant where it takes 15 minutes before a server takes your order and the kitchen begins cooking it. I walked in on a whim after getting a massage at Massage Envy next door and ordered my pizza to go, and the pizza was made and I was back in the car in under 15 minutes. Fantastic! The Sausage Bella pizza is SO good. Better than 90% of pizzas I've tried in and around West Des Moines. I definitely recommend it! I look forward to going back in the near future and trying out the rest of their pizza selection!

Great place for a casual meal. Order at the counter, sit down and in a few minutes wood fired pizza. We like the variety and the flavor of Red Rossa. They also have some great salads they will serve with bread if you want to get a pizza and salad and share. It's a good stop for a quick meal. You may have to order at the counter, but after that it feels like a place you can sit and talk and not feel rushed either.

This pizza was just outstanding for the price and speed. Authentic crust and quality cheese. The basil could have been better, but that's holding the lily. Atmosphere is typical of quality fast casual eateries. Highly recommended.

Good pizza. Thin crust wood fire. Good flavors. Execution of crust could be slightly better, but worth coming back!

Two stars because they were very fast and because I ate the food. But I'll pass on returning. I've eaten here before, and it was good enough to try again, but not good enough to write my signature 5 star review. This time, four tables were taken, and every other table was covered with dirty dishes. After we ordered a guy cleaned a table for us, but the dirty rag and haphazard wipedown left me unimpressed. I frequent some dives do I wasn't worried about it. But then we got our salad with browning lettuce, and our mediocre pizza. Decent crust, but overall pretty bland. So many great pizza joints in Des Moines, I'll avoid this one.

Ordered the marguerita. Too bad my pizza came out under-done. Others looked better, so maybe mine was the exception. Otherwise pizza had good wood fired flavor. Still no match for +39 in Ames.

My son and I each had one of their specialty pizzas - The Italian and the Chicken Alfredo. All pies are 11", and they got my teenager and I full without feeling stuffed. Both pies seemed to have struck the perfect balance between sauce, toppings, and crust. The freshness of the ingredients was key, with the Chicken Alfredo even containing garlic slivers sliced right before going into the oven. The crust was crispy, though not oily, and the sauce settled into the background just meshing all of the flavors together. Had I been able to give this restaurant 4.5 stars, I would have, as the service was borderline rude. As you walk to a counter to order, then they bring you the finished pie, there is really not much for them to get wrong. However, simple cordiality was missing. No PLEASE or THANK YOU to be found, even when prompted. That said, the pies are so delicious I will be going back.
(5)Laura B.
Ordered both pizza and salad, and both were delicious! Great food, great price. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely go back soon!

In Des Moines for one night and needed to grab something before getting on the road. This is possibly the greatest pizza we've ever had, and we've eaten lots of the New York pizza you're 'supposed' to eat. The roman is salty, cheesy, and decadent, and the marinara is hands-down the best cheeseless pizza my vegan companion has ever had. Somehow the topping stay on the sauces and running off the slice. It's also tangy, garlicky, and fresh-tasting. Worth getting even if you're not vegan.
(5)Justin W.
This is one of the only restaurants in Des Moines where my family and I eat and don't feel nauseous afterwards! The staff is always super friendly, the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time, and the pizza is delicious! One of our go-to spots when my wife needs a break from cooking or we just want to spend some time together as a family outside of our house. Great spot, great wine, great pizza. Highly recommended!

After driving by many times over the years we finally stopped in. on a Sunday for lunch. Wife and I split a Caesar Salad and 11" pizza. Very good, can't believe we have never stopped before. Place was empty so we were worried it was not good. Glad we got there early the place filled up. We will not be driving by, it was tasty. Going to go back again.

Pizza was great. I loved the sausage and roasted pepper combo...sausage was fine ground and the flavor of it was worth mentioning. Crust was perfect. Served child pizza in 5 minutes. Mine took about 7 minutes. The kids meal comes with gelato and my son loved it. The Chianti wine was just under 6 dollars a glass but tasted like perhaps they had a bottle opened for a few days. That seems unlikely so maybe I just had an off palette as it was mid-afternoon? Overall would totally come back and if same time of day I'd drink cold beer with this great pizza!
(4)Ira B.
This place has some of the best pizza this side of the Atlantic! The pizza is delicious as are the salads (a libretto, or course). I've been eating here for years now, and every time is as good as the first time. The food is great, the staff is friendly, and the wine and beer selection is solid. Red Rossa has some of the best ingredients, including rosemary chicken, different types of mushroom, and a nice selection of cheeses (including gorgonzola and goat). I would only caution everyone to not select too many watery ingredients on one pizza since the center can get soft...but the pizza is delicious regardless. I recently tried their gelatos - raspberry and salted caramel - and I will definitely make gelato part of my meal from now on.

Out here on business, found this joint. I ordered the margherita pizza and garden salad. Overall I am very impressed. Dough is chewy and light. Tastes fresh. Good flavor. Salad had too much iceberg lettuce and not enough veggies but the dressing was fantastic. Will make another visit if I'm out here again.
(4)Linda D.
Had the Tuscany Pizza with the half Chop Chop Salad. In a word...DELICIOUS! The staff was great and the price is beyond reasonable. So glad we have a Red Rossa in my hometown of Sioux Falls as well!
(5)Adrienne G.
Looking for a pizza to take away & Red Rossa-Napoli was closest to my hotel The crust was floppy but not soggy & the outer rim was chewy so while I've had worse, wasn't too much of a fan But I think overall, it was the lack of toppings that did it for me....I chose green & black olives & mushrooms. The shrooms were fresh but the amount of toppings was quite skimpy. In addition, there was hardly any cheese on the pizza & the sauce was more of a suggestion rather than part of the pizza It was like I had ordered floppy dough w/ a hint of stuff on it Should have known better when I called in, right in the middle of prime dinner hour & was told 5-10 min for my order to be ready.....Final assessment, have to say: Sorry, I've had much better pizzas

I have worked there for a year now and this place is honestly the best place I've gone for pizza. It fire baked inside out 650 degree oven in a very little amount of time so even if we have a huge line it goes down really quick because of how fast the service is. Sunday nights and Monday nights are the slowest so come on in! Are prices are very good and reasonable for what you get. We have a great deal over lunch you get half a pizza and a half garden or caesar salad, we call it the quick lunch and it is so good! Hope to see you all soon
(5)Nathan S.
Good pizza, reasonable prices, and great salad. We got pizza with mushroom, peppers, sun dried tomatoes, onions, and garlic. There was also feta and mozzarella cheese on it. Was very good, would maybe prefer it a little built more well done. We also got some salad with chicken in it. The salad was great, very hearty , and very well balanced. I remember there being chicken or turkey, figs, some cheese (tasted like Gorgonzola), dried cranberries, thin strips of some citrus fruit, and toasted pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin seeds were actually my favorite part! They added nuttiness, and a bit of crunch. Usually salads with more exotic ingredients that aren't found much on the menu is a hit or miss. This was definitely a hit.

Delicious!! Pizzas are fresh with a nice chewy crust perfectly blistered. Tried the Napoli which had the perfect amount of chopped pepperoncini to give it a nice kick along with pepperoni and spinach -- all on a simple savory marinara sauce. My husband had the chicken Alfredo pizza which was a little heavy for me. Complemented well with the chop chop salad which was lightly dressed. Thank you! If I am ever back in Des Moines, IA, I will definitely be back!
(5)Craig Z.
Pizza and salad. Wood fired pizza and it's served up quick. Tasted pretty good. If their meat was a little better quality that would bumb it up a notch. Salad was good too. Downfall is they only have one size of pizza. Wish they had more. Definitely a good place to check out.
(4)Tracey C.
Thought the pizza was good. Just had to buy a bunch of individual pies for my family. We will be back!

The first time my boyfriend and I came here, I was a bit skeptical. We did not know what we were really doing when we ordered and it probably showed as we ordered one pizza between the two of us (we added gelato on at the end though). I now cannot seem to get enough of this place! We often go at lunch when you can get half a pizza and a salad for a good price and rather quickly too. Their garden salad is always fresh and I like the dressing they put on it. Each time I go, I try a different signature pizza. My favorite thus far is probably the Chicken Pesto. Honestly, I have not had one yet that I didn't like! The only downfall was the gelato. I have only had it once and it is not the best I have ever had. But, it is not bad either. I highly recommend trying out Red Rossa if you have not yet!

Very very good pizza! My wife and I wanted to try a new pizza place and decided to go here on Saturday night. When we walked in there was a line all the way from the counter to the door and I was a kind of worried we hit it at the wrong time but the line moved fast and once we were seated it wasn't a long wait at all for our food. The pizza was really good. The pizzas are each perfect size for one person. I got the Napoli and it was great! The atmoshere was cool too. I liked watching them stretching the crust and being able to see the wood fire pizza oven. We will be going back for sure!
(5)Michael G.
I tried this place because it was rated highly on Yelp! I'm glad I did. You order individual (11") pizzas either custom made (you choose the ingredients), or they have several house specialties. I tried 2 of them and they were both excellent. They cook in a wood-fired oven right in the center of the restaurant, which is nice. The ambiance is clean, modern, but not stuffy. I'd highly recommend it!

We are from out of town and discovered this place through Yelp. Great pizza, good atmosphere, so-so service. Unfortunately, on Thurs August 8th everyone who dined there had their credit card billed TWICE!! That is totally unacceptable for a restaurant. I would not have noticed this unless I reviewed my credit card statement, and the management did nothing to communicate to those affected.
(2)Alexander S.
Really great Napoli-style ingredients. A bit of a softer crust than Vesuvius in Ames, or Punch in the Twin Cities, but good ingredients and gelato as well
(5)Chris V.
Classic wood-fired stone oven pizza. Lots of variety to choose from. They do get incredibly busy at lunch time during the week, but even then it's worth the wait. I have yet to have a bad experience here, and although there is no wait staff, they are still attentive to your needs of clearing the table. I highly recommend the stop if you like pizza at all.

I was driving from Montreal, Canada back to San Francisco, CA. I stopped off outside Colfax, IA at a rest stop to catch up on emails and jumped on yelp to find a good spot for a dinner break (before stopping for the night in Omaha, NE). I called a variety of places, including Red Rossa - I talked to Andreas on the phone and they'd be closing at 9pm. Most places close at 9pm apparently mid-week and I thought I'd be out of luck since I wasn't expecting to make it to Clive before 9pm. Luckily I realized that I forgot to fact that I drove into CST and gained an extra hour. Still, it was going to be close. I arrived promptly at 8:50pm and saw that all the chairs were on the tables and they were cleaning up. I thought I was out of luck. I went in and inquired anyways whether it would be possible. Things weren't looking up at first, but they slowly warmed up as Andreas realized it was me, the guy driving to San Francisco. He talked to his employees and they were very gracious, offering to make some pizzas for me before they close. I ordered The Italian and a BBQ Chicken. Not a problem at all for them. They offered a seat while I waited however I had been sitting all day and politely declined. Then Andreas said he could leave a table open for me to eat there while they cleaning up and closing up shop. I politely declined as I was happy to take the pizza with me and finish off my drive to Omaha, NB. Lastly, they offered me a cup to get a glass of soft drink however I also declined as I was pumped up on enough water from the drive already (this was ~hour 11 of the day). Absolutely brilliant customer service. 15 minutes or so after ordering I was on my way with the 2 hot pizzas to Omaha, NE where I'd stop for the night before continuing on to San Francisco. Oh, and the pizza tasted great and definitely competes with the best of the SF Bay Area (like Little Star pizza, Zacharies or the Cheeseboard). 5 stars well earned!
(5)Stacy Z.
We love this place as a fast food alternative. Good, thin crust, greaseless pizza. We love their harvest chicken salad "in a book" (salad folded into a just baked & blistered pizza crust). Food is fresh, and super fast.
(5)Paul D.
AMAZING!!! I had pizza in Naples back in 94' and this is VERY close!
(5)Matt E.
It's good to see that the Neapolitan style of pizza is making in-roads in to the state of Iowa. Red Rossa pizza is the first to establish a foot hold and enthusiastic following out in Clive. You get a good sized pie for personal consumption for around $10.
(4)Jenn W.
I was in Des Moines/Clive for three nights - the first and last night I ate here. It was that good. i was pleasantly surprised. I am pretty particular about pizza - the ingredients are fresh and the wood fired crust is really tasty. The service is friendly, Midwestern to the core. The salads are great too - I had the chop chop and the spinachi, I think. If you like a little spice, get the Napoli pizza - it's the reason I came back the last night.

My family and I stopped by on our way home to Kansas City to try out Red Rossa for lunch. I've eaten a lot of pizza in my day, but sadly not as much of the neapolitan style as I would like. The wood-fired pizzas made here appealed to my interest. My wife got the lunch special of a half pizza (pepperoni) and salad, while I opted for the margherita pizza. It was wonderful! So much so, that when my wife decided to order chocolate gelato for dessert, I opted for a marinara pizza instead. The marinara was at least as good if not better than the margherita! The hot wood fired oven blisters the chewy bread-like crust just enough to make it so delicious. All of the ingredients appeared to be top notch. Prices were not cheap but not expensive, either. Overall, superb pizzas. We'd love to have one in the Kansas City area!
(5)Emily S.
Great pizza, a fun environment, and one of the only places to get good gelato in the Clive/Waukee area. =) Perfect for friends, family, or business.
(5)Ron H.
Excellent pizza (had the pesto chicken- yummmm!), good beer & 1/2 a ceasar. Great space- laid back, quick casual, but they make it fresh right in front of you. This is my 1st time here- but will defintly come back.
(5)J D.
Great thin wood-cooked pizza joint with fast service. The only bad thing is it's a little pricey (for a pizza place) if each person gets their own pizza (since the pizzas are a little smaller than a regular small pizza) at around $10 bucks a shot.
