Granite City Food & Brewery Menu

The beer - pretty decent. The food - disappointing; serviceable but not bad. I've eaten at Granite City a handful of times, and I've yet to get a dish that wasn't disappointing. The prices are a bit unreasonable for what you get. For example, we ordered a new appetizer - the blue cheese and basil chips. It was about $6. We got a small cone of french fries with a few unevenly distributed globs of blue cheese and tiny, tiny shreds of basil. It was enough for the three of us to have a couple of bites. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, and definitely not what we were expecting. The other dishes I've tried ranged from meh (the margarita pizza) to fine but not spectacular (the tuscan shrimp fettucine). Also, the vegetarian selection is pretty limited. On the plus side, their beers are worth trying. Get the beer sampler - $2.75 for five or six samples of beer (about 1/3 glass each). They'll put them out in order for you and give you a menu so you can keep track of what you like. I enjoyed the Irish Stout and one of their 'special' seasonal beer, the unfiltered wheat.

Awesome brunch. The Bedda Chedda burger is something I dream about. Tue down side is that I rarely order anything else. Bartender usually remembers us even though we are far from regulars.

Great food. Large selection flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, salads, steak, seafood, and home-brewed beers. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

I have been to this restaurant a couple times and have been disappointed none of them. The brews they make a great and the food is a step above the usualy pub grub you can get else where. They also have the bar loaded up with plenty of flat screen TVs to help you though all you sporting events. The layout of the bar area is also very good for enjoying a Saturday afternoon of college sports.

I went to Granite City with a larger group of sixty-somethings for lunch. We had reservations but had to wait for our table due to another large party lingering over their meal. The restaurant made the wait worthwhile by giving us three free platters of Idaho Nachos to share. I had the Spinach Artichoke Chicken Sandwich which was delicious. All of the food was excellent and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Great customer service here! Highly recommended. No complaints.

Sigh - Granite City again. There are many places you end up because that's where the group is going. Alas, is my experience with Granite City. A place I have been numerical times, but would never choose. It isn't terrible, but it is never good. Of course, based on the throngs of people here all the time, you would never know it is on the low side of mediocre. My personal issues with the place first - there is almost nothing vegetarian on the menu. I am tired of the margarita flatbread pizza. It's either that or a salad with the chicken removed that sometimes despite explanation of wanting no meat comes with bacon. Hmmm. Next, the service is fair to poor. Wait staff will disappear right when you need them. They are there at the beginning, then a runner brings the food, and then you better hope it's right because you won't see anyone. Today we had soup without a spoon and 10 minutes went by. Drinks went empty after the first delivery. This is pretty standard. The food is okay, but nothing stands out. I do like the flatbread. However, today I ordered the lunch special that came with a salad. Instead of being served on a metal serving tray the pizza (and another on the table) was served on a plate. Pieces were flopped all four onto one another making it all soggy and lifeless by the time they were to our table. What is usually a crisp cracker crust was gooey and nasty. I ended up picking the tomatoes off the top and eating just that. I wasn't too surprised this meal was a disappointment, but this rose to a new Granite City level.

Bad service. Waiter took forever, drinks took forever, slow service. Almost walked out. Feed was so-so. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere.

Granite City was decent enough but probably not on the top of my list of places to return to. I did enjoy their Batch 1000--it is a double IPA and I am usually not a fan of IPAs as I dislike the hoppy/bitter taste to them. That being said, I didn't think Batch 1000 tasted that hoppy and in actually liked it quite a bit. My meal wasn't mind-blowing but not awful either. I had a cup and of their beer cheese soup (yum) and the buffalo chicken wrap--the wrap was good but extremely spicy. I consider myself pretty tolerant of spiciness but this was almost too much for me. Overall I could see myself returning on occasion but would probably seek out other restaurants first.

This place is one of our family's go to. All 3 of us have very different tastes but can find something we each like. Recently we went and I had the buffalo chicken flatbread and it was amazing. Crunchy crust and very flavorful chicken and sauce - way better than other buffalo chicken flat bread pizzas I have had. My husband had one of his favorites - Fish Tacos. He loves the and they always give you plenty. We spluged and got dessert - the chocolate chip toffee cookie with ice cream on top. AMAZING!

Very good beer but I was very disappointed when they eliminated my preferred dish from the menu: their mussels marinara with garlic bread. Bring it back!!

First time at Granite City.... I was expecting something along the lines of Rock Bottom, but I would put Granite City below Applebees/Chilis in terms of food and overall ambiance. When I walked in, there was an overwhelming smell of old chicken noodle soup, it reminded me of when I worked in a nursing home dining room. The decor is really bland and generic, and the restaurant was so cold I had to wear my coat the whole time! The prices are high for food quality and portion size. At least $2-$3 over what the prices should be, in my opinion. Overall, just "meh." I have no desire to ever go back.

This review is for their Sunday brunch buffet. I have been waiting to eat their brunch buffet for months, it was months of multiple co-workers telling me how amazing it was so I finally found the opportunity to go! They have their own parking lot which is pretty big and convenient. Upon entering we were greeted by multiple upbeat staff members and from there I immediately knew we were going to enjoy our experience here. We were quickly seated and we waited for our server to come take our drink orders. The server was very friendly and asked if it was our first time for brunch. When we told him it was he gave us a detailed rundown of where everything was and what they had to offered, that helped out a lot! When we first went up I was excited , everything looked and smelled wonderful. The layout reminding me of a luxury hotel when they have their breakfast, very fancy and professional. Even though there were many people eating here for brunch, you hardly notice them because the line moves by very quick when getting food. The creamy hash browns were probably the best thing there in my opinion, it was amazing! It is the first thing in the line and you best get a big scoop of it because you will not get enough of it! Next was some scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausages and bacon, waffles , mashed potatoes, and some other not as interesting items in line. There is also fruits and pastries as part of the brunch in the ends of the line. Next came the service table...made to order omelettes with a ton of ingredients, made to order eggs Benedict, and a prime rib ready to be sliced for you. The service table items are awesome and the staff members manning it are very professional and friendly! The taste? Oh wow! Perfect! Everything was perfect! I nearly ate every item there was and everything was delicious! Excellent quality! I don't need to go into details with each item, they were all amazing! I did not do the omelette because I was too full by then...I will without a doubt come back and do the brunch all over again! So good! For those who are curious (I know I was) the brunch buffet is $15.95 per person. Worth every penny, the food, service, and atmosphere!

The Sunday brunch here is a five, regular meals are a 3.5 or 4. The prices are a little heavy for the quality of food you get, but if you register for their pub card it makes it much more reasonable. We've really enjoyed the flat bread pizza, salmon, Mediterranean chicken, and a few different burgers. The rice pilaf was too salty and the fries were soggy. Most of the other ingredients were very fresh. The beers are quite good. The service has always been excellent. I trust the wait staff's recommendations and the beer pairings. We eat hear a couple times per month and enjoy it.

We stopped here while in town and looking for somewhere to eat after 8pm. This was the perfect place! Fastest service I've ever received at a sit down restaurant, especially when we were far from the only customers dining there. Waitress was attentive and super friendly. We ordered the spinach & artichoke dip appetizer and it was DELICIOUS! Two meals, an app and a couple of beers came out to just under $40. Can't say enough about the service we received and the savory food! I wish we lived closer so we could come back again and again.

Granite City is easy to overlook since it's far out west on University on a corner. It's sort of similar to Raccoon River Brewery with the exception of pool tables and live music. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. Had the BTA (Bacon Tomato Avocado) grilled cheese sandwich and it was delicious. My only complaint was that the ratio of tomato and avocado should have matched the cheese amount a bit more. Fries are good. Tried the burger with shredded cheddar cheese and bbq sauce and loved that! Also tried the Alfredo and not bad. I have to admit my favorite part of the meal was dessert...There's a great deal where you can get three mini desserts for 5.95 which includes Sorbet, Creme Brulee, and a homemade brownie with vanilla ice cream. Great for the price. Those desserts on their own are 2.95 so not bad either. I ended up scarfing the dessert because it was that good. Will try the Sunday brunch here next time.

Granite City is always a good choice for us! The atmosphere is great. We love to sit in the bar area on a date night. The bartenders are always friendly even when they are super busy. My husband love the salmon, Cajun pasta, and peppercorn burger. I love the big show burger, the pretzel bun is wonderful!

My first experience with this restaurant was in kindergarten when I went with my mother and grandma. From what I remember I loved it. Great service. Great food. About six years later I went back. The service was still amazing but the food totally changed. The fries were so small and that isn't good for me because I love to dip them in ranch. I also had a hamburger and it did not taste good at all. I'm willing to give it one more chance though because it is a very classy restaurant.

Celebrating a birthday, four people went to Granite City for dinner. The spinach artichoke appetizer was good. The chicken wrap was okay. The salmon was okay. The ribs were tough and could not be eaten. The burger was just okay. The fruit with the burger was rancid. The waitress took the two complaints about the ribs and bad fruit in stride, brought salmon caesar salad instead of the ribs and that was good, didn't seemed to be fazed by the fact the fruit was bad. We will not return to Granite City.

Happy hour is wonderful! Big portions, friendly staff, reasonable prices! The only complaint I have was the fries were barely golden or crispy. The sour cream sauce for the fries was AMAZING!

Heard what as great Happy Hour they have. Sat at the bar, but the smell was horrible, so only stayed for one drink. Spinach dip used to be great, but recipe has changed & now not good.

The wife and I had a fair time here. We went for happy hour, it was a Friday and I wanted a couple beers. The prices on their beer were satisfactory but the actually beers themselves left a bit to be desired. CC is a bit weird about their beers. They brew on site which is positive but they brew the same recipes that all the other GCs brew so it's basically just their gimmick that it's an onsite brew, they aren't really craft since the recipe is dictated by corporate and the materials are sent to the restaurant to brew following instruction. That established, the beers aren't particularly impressive, they are like fancy store brand versions of beers. For example, they have had the Brother Benedicts for years. Benedict is a Mai Bock which is a German harvest beer and one of my favorite beer varieties. But GC provides something that has no character, it's an impersonation of a good beer, but it's not worth seeking out. Had I been able to just buy a Shiner Bock, Anchor Bock, or Hosten, I would enjoy this place a ton more. Just because you make it on site, doesn't make your beer any better than the people who make good beer on the other side of the planet. I tried three different varieties and none were something that I would ever buy if I saw them at the grocery store. The service here was what you'd expect of the chain restaurant service. There were many servers, probably a few too many when we got there but the place filled while we were there. The manager made there perfunctory "I am the manager, I am checking in with you to make sure things are fine but you and I both know that unless something is F-ing abhorrent you are just going to acknowledge me and let me then interrupt the next table's meal" (Sorry, I know I shouldn't care about this gesture but I just don't get the value in having one more person talk to us about the food, if I had a problem I'd manage to tell the first or the second professional server who has asked me about my meal). The one real knock I had on the waitress was that we had ordered appetizers 10 minutes before the entrees but they ended up coming out all together; which means that my main is cool before I can get to it. As for the food, I got a mac and cheese that was actually quite good even if a bit cool. My wife got.... some variety of giant salad (sorry, I can't remember what she got) and she really liked it. I'd likely go again, I'd just do it as a mid-week meal rather than a Friday night happy hour. Since I wanted a couple beers and to relax, I was disappointed in how my visit here turned out. The beers were worse than you'd find at your standard "bar and grill" chain restaurant. The waitstaff/management are a bit too intense on having the table served by everyone so you have a ton of people coming to your table throughout the meal. By time we were leaving the whole room was packed with people seemingly trying to see who could be loudest (a ton of families had come in and kids were yelling and jogging around the restaurant). Additionally, one woman came in who reeked of old cigarettes and a lifetime of bad decisions who kept wandering around the restaurant apparently looking for her party but never seemed to find it (It's not the restaurant's fault that they had a really stinky patron, I am not considering it in my rating, just giving the review some color). So, yeah, I might go back for the mac and cheese, it was pretty good. But it won't be on a Friday and if I want a drink I'll just do it before or after.

Was very disappointed. I had the chicken and asparagus linguini and it was very bland. Had an inordinate amount of onions in it and they were cut into tiny pieces. So, guess what happens? You eat the pasta with a fork, the onions do not make it and then at the end you are left with a bowl full of onions. My wife and daughter had the prime rib sandwich and it looked ok, but nothing special. Too many options available to go back for mediocre food and good beer.

Last night was our last visit!!! We found a strange item in our fry dip. When presented to the staff, they could have cared-less. No customer preservation bill credit. Which lead us to believe this must happen often. Other wise they would have been as concerned about the foreign object as we were. The first few dining experiences were pleasant and the bar food tasty. Later visit have proven to be sad. The staff has proven to be very superficial!!! Which does not make for a good place to have "dinner" nightly. We were sold the Mug Club card on the lie that " you will get 10% off your dining" in reality you only get 10% off the most expensive item.

I am in retail and I have had a very stressful week. My husband and I decided to come to granite city for a couple of beers because we are members of the mug club. When we got there a lot if people were waiting outside. We usually sit at the bar. They were packed and no room to sit at the bar. We saw a table open up in the bar area, we sat down. This snarky waitress came over and said 'where is your pager?' My husband said 'we just sat down.' She snapped off and said 'I need your pager.' ' this is not the bar.' We said we thought it was part of the bar and she snapped off and said 'well it is not.' We left and will probably never go back.

While here in Des Monies, Iowa I was taken here by some friends and OMG - Amazing! Get the peppercorn burger and try the two-pull beer brewed here... SO GOOD! I then returned three more times throughout the next week. My best suggestion is two get the sampler of their Micro-brews! Very reasonable priced, it's equal to two and a half beers and you get to try everything.

While staying in West Des Moines we ate here on a Wednesday night. I did not realize it was a chain. First off the prices were a little on the high side for the quality of the food. I got the London Broil. It was a little on the tough side. The flavor was ok but it was smothered in too much sauce. I like my sauces to compliment my meal. It was just too much. The garlic mashed potatoes were good but dry and dense in consistency and a little on the cool side when delivered. My sister got the ribeye. She liked her's. She's easier to please than I am. She never got the appetizer she order. When we asked for our check she mentioned to the waiter that she didn't get it and his response was "oh you didn't' did you". The service was very mediocre. I don't think our waiter likes his job much. He was not rude but not friendly. Didn't ever ask us if we would like a refill on our beverage until we asked for our checks. More than likely we won't return.

A coworker suggested we go here for dinner. She's lived in this area for quite some time and of course I'm visiting for work!! Choosing a spectacular restaurant that I wouldn't find in Atlanta is always fun!! Boy did she hit the nail on the head. I decided to go with "The Salmon Oscar"! This dish was delicious and so was the White Wine Sangria. The drink was actually suggested by the waiter! The waiter was extremely nice and checked in frequently!! I would definitely visit this place again should I come to Des Moines.

Unlimited Mimosas are the best. Tried orange/pineapple and orange/cranberry. Plenty of room in a booth to seat 6 people. Wait staff was very attentive. Good assortment in buffet and tasted very good as well. I will be back.

So a measly 5 yrs later & come to find Granite City has very rudely changed their menu....NO MORE Cheese Ravioli....heavy sigh Took the work crew here for lunch & found very limited veggie options......but I'm thankful there were *any* so made my selection among what there was I chose the Portobello Sandwich. It was slimy & the oil that they marinated the mushroom in had saturated the bun to the point it was soggy - no love here Waffle Fries were standard fries but their "Special Sauce" was really good. Kind of their take on Ranch Dip Coworker got the French Onion Soup & a side of waffle fries - she's the one who turned my onto the "Special Sauce" & she loves their soup Other coworker got a plain burger w/ shoestring fries & said it was standard burger fare Last coworker got the Chicken Cesar Quesadilla - apparently they took off the menu but you can still get it.....it's her fav & the only go-to Overall, given I was the only true miss but then again, the fries made up for any slime-factor, have to say an A-OK lunch for the crew & it was great to catch up

go here for the food as the beer (lager and pilsner) very average, the food at this place for our whole group was excellent, fresh, well presented, and tasty, the beer is their own and what we ordered, in particular the lagers and pilsner types, were flat, this place is clean, staff friendly and attentive, parking right by building and menu is diverse, I recommended if not going for a good micro but most micro breweries fall short by producing hoppy bland beer with nothing special

  • James M.

Pros: One of the mixed drink special, jalapeno-infused something or other, was quite good. And super nice friendly employees; after we spilled a drink, a manager said "I'm sorry" - hey, it was father-in-law's fault, not yours! Neutral: Food was solid, not spectacular, but not disappointing, given that it is a brewery. Fries were bland but plentiful. Buffalo chicken sandwich was good. Sorry, I can't remember what others ordered, but nobody was raving, and nobody was complaining either. Cons: Very slow service. It is a brewery and yet they didn't take drink orders first. Was roughly 30 minutes before we got our first drink, and, hanging out with the inlaws after standing at church for nearly 2 hours, I needed a drink! Food was a tad pricey for Des Moines.

Not my favorite place. I've been here a couple of times, once about 3 or 4 years ago and then again yesterday. I ordered the nappa valley burger that comes with mixed greens, cheese, and prosciutto ham on top. When warmed, like on top of a burger, the prosciutto becomes just a cooked piece of salty ham by the way : P The burger was just ok. I could tell it was a thin little patty in a perfectly circular form so that told me the thing was prepackaged/frozen. Cooked medium like I asked but with a burger so friggin thin and tough what's the difference really? The fries were really good. I love the thin shoestring fries and that's what these fries are. They give you a ton of them too. I ordered the raspberry iced tea. My first one was good. The second one had some weird gross string floating in it. The waitress was equally stunned and promptly brought me another. Our waitress was good and attentive with refills and making sure everything was good. Overall just Ok. I won't rush back but the lunch crowd sure seems to like it cus the place was packed and always seems to be. I won't order the burger again. I can def make that better at home. I will check my drinks for weird floaty things that shouldn't be there if I do return.

Granite City ranks lowest on the scale for the four breweries in town. Not that GC is bad, but it's the little things that add up that make the others better. On that note however I would not shy away from GC either. Their food selection is good, I enjoy some of the flatbread pizzas and burgers. They usually run a weekly chef special with something not on the menu. The area that GC shines at is their weekend brunch buffet. They have a wide variety of food served on it including asiago hash browns and an eggs benedict bar. I would definitely recommend that. The beers leave a little to be desired. Out of the four breweries in town GC always has the least on tap. They run their four main beers and then another one maybe two seasonals. GC would be near the 4* range if they had a better beer selection.

I am basing this review primarily on their brunch buffet. I recently had this and found the food to be very good. The selection and price left a bit to be desired though. The wait staff was very helpful in explaining the buffet, thought there wasn't much to explain. Our server was very attentive to our drinks and clearing away used plates. All in all this was a good start to a nice relaxing Sunday and after a buffet with food this good you will need some time to relax and digest.

This is not the kind of place that inspires me to be adventurous. Out of the many times that I've been here, I think I've always had one of two or three sandwiches (Bedda Chedda Burger, Overlake Sandwhich). I've never branched out further. I do like what I've had, or I wouldn't keep coming back for the same things (What is it that they say the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over, expecting to get a different result each time?). The beer is good. The Benny Maibach and the Duke IPA are personal favorites. Tip: If you are planning on coming here for lunch on a weekday, it fills up fast. Unless you have time to kill, I recommend arriving no later than 11:30 or no earlier than 1pm. Overall, the food is pretty decent for the money.

One of my favorite places to eat. Their burgers are delicious and the menu is very varied. The appetizers are really good too, especially the crab wontons and the chicken caesar chalupas. The breakfast there is amazing. Be careful around lunch though, because it gets pretty crowded. A lot of business people head there for work. Only knocks I have against it are that service at breakfast can be really bad, only because they're so crowded and employ waiters who don't normally work there. Also they don't have very many vegetarian options for my wife.

Once again, I find myself reaching for that non-existent half-a-star...I'd go 3.5 here. I'm in Des Moines for a week and having my second latish supper at the bar. My first night I had the Sirloin salad on the recommendation of the lady next to me. It was huge and tasty and pricy ($18 or so). Beer-wise, I only tried the "Duke" pale ale. Serviceable, but nothing at all to write home about. Tonight I'm back, hoping for a smallish dinner. This isn't the place for that but I managed by ordering the buffalo chicken sandwich, subbing garlic mashers for the fries. Disposed of most of the bread and enjoyed a reasonably flavorful chicken breast. The garlic mashed potoatos were decent, but forgettable. Also ordered another forgettable pale ale and now starting on the Broad Axe Stout (oops, meant to order the Brother Benedicts Bock, not sure I have another in me). The stout is considerably better (as in more to style, I'm still an hoppy guy) than the pale ale. This is clearly a popular place, although less crowded on this Thursday than on Monday (big wing special and Monday night football). No complaints about service at the bar. I appreciate the free Wifi but am amused by the password protection; it's not a location that would be buried by nearby poachers. The only real competition I see here in West Des Moines is Rock Bottom, of which I am not a fan. I did manage to get downtown for a pint at Raccoon River on Tuesday, but I'd already eaten. Perhaps another time... To summarize, if I find myself in WDM again, I'd come back but wish for just a step up on the house brews.

I might add a 1/2 star if it were an option. The portions were reasonable and the food was fine but nothing was particularly well done or interesting. I would probably get a sandwich if I ended up here again. My ravioli was fine, could have used a splash of fresh herbs. My husband's salmon had a funny aftertaste (he didn't notice it as much as I did) and the asparagus on top were overcooked. The beer was nothing to write home about. I liked the red the best of all of them though. The service was good and the place was clean. They played Nirvana and it made us feel a little old.

Great food. Great service. Sunday brunch is only 15.00. Prime rib , eggs , great sausage , hash browns and a lot more that I couldn't fit in my gut. Paid way more for the same at other brunches. My wife loves the blue cheese burger with onion strings. (She doesn't even like onions ). My boys love there burgers with bacon. There pizza is great too. Our service has always been great . We realize we are not the only people in the restaurant. You can't rush great food, it takes time and the place is always crowded so it has to be good . I have been here several times and have never been disappointed . Even brother and sister-in- law loved it and they have never liked the places that we have taken them in the past. You are missing out if you don't try this place out.

Granite City brunch is the best thing that ever happened to me. Their food selection is beyond amazing and the botomless Mimosas are a treat. The food is always hot and delicious. The eggs benedict station and the prime rib are melt-in-your-mouth good! There is also a pleathora of breakfast meats and pastries. It is always a treat to visit for Sunday Brunch. I would be very interested in what their normal dining experience is.

Granite City is about a 3.5 for me - I can't quite bear giving it four stars, but "A-OK" sounds just about right. I think of Granite City as a nicer version of Rock Bottom. The restaurant itself is nice inside with a good patio in the summer. I generally really like the beers, and they have a good selection for non beer drinkers as well. The food I think is far better than a Rock Bottom or TGI Friday's, but it's nothing worth writing home about. There's a pretty good pizza that I usually order, and I like the Guinness soup too. Past that, there a few other things that are decent but hardly mind-blowing. I tend to go here for the beer and get the food as an afterthought. If you're looking for food, head 100 yards down the road and go to Trostel's Dish instead. If you want good beer, this is your place.

Very disappointing. Ordered shrimp tacos. Shrimp glaze was like a "gel" and shrimp was chewy, not very appetizing. Plates came out at my rice was in a little plastic bag. They essentially reheat things in the microwave. $15 for a plate of reheated food. Beer was not very good either, had "The Duke". I want to like this place, but it's quality of food for the price just isn't there. Save your money, you can do better than this place.
