To call this place a dive isn't really fair. The dining room looks more like a basement rec room than a restaurant, complete with '60s style dinette chairs and on further review, well, it's pretty much a basement rec room. Yup, it's fair to call it a dive because well, it's a dive. But true Yelpers know that often, the best food around comes from a dive. I was here at 12:30 on a Thursday and the place was empty, in fact, it looked like it had just opened and wasn't really set up for customers yet. (Maybe lunch isn't a specialty?) The smell of my Chicago Style Hot Dog quickly permeated the restaurant. The owner is very friendly and we chatted briefly while I waited for the dog to be grilled. She put a sliced-in-half baguette on the grill and I did a double take - was that for me? She already had a jumbo dog, sliced lengthwise, warming up on the grill. Yup, the dog and the baguette were for me. This isn't the traditional Chicago Style Hotdog, loaded up with all kinds of stuff. This one is simple, onions, relish, etc. and Uncle Louie's secret ingredient - saurkraut. It's not a Chicago hotdog, this is more like a submarine sandwich. It was five bucks and it was great, but way too much food for me! It came back to the hotel with me to be dinner. I recommend Uncle Louie's but you might want to bring a friend. As for the atmosphere? You might think about carry-out.

Let's just start off by saying that this place is the definition of a dive. It was also expensive by my standards of how much a Chicago Style Hot Dog and Italian Beef should cost( m. Then again I am in Clinton, IA and not Chicago. Another quick tip is that they don't accept credit cards. Luckily I had cash on me because usually I don't. Now let's get to the real review, the food: it was better than expected. The portions were absolutely huge. The Italian beef was excellent and the hot dog was also pretty decent with a hoagie roll. I will definitely be back, but maybe next time I will carry out.

This place is definitely a "dive", however if you want some authentic Chicago style street vendor food this is it. The Chicago Dogs are ridiculously huge and their gyros are delicious. They have huge fresh cut onion rings and yummy fries! Everything is made fresh and with love. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they could clean the place up a little bit and it was freezing cold in there! I am assuming that the cook gets hot but you can't have cold customers! Maybe a small I-heater for the eating area?
