Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Set up for bicyclists there are racks to hang your bikes from. It is small on the inside so unless you want to wait for a seat you may want to try going at an off hour. Wood fire pizza, try the egg roll, yum. Wings are rotisserie style and very good. Staff always friendly and willing to put your a cold beer or a drink. Outdoor seating is not available right now and I do not see how they would build it in to the area since it is a strip mall type set up. Worth a stop. Check out the portrait behind the bar and ask about the bar top and what it is made from. There is history here even if it is in a new strip mall.

The Wheel House is such a great place to hang out. I've had nothing but positive experiences. The bartenders/servers are always friendly and quick. The pizza selection is so weird, but it's so good at the same time! Who else has an eggroll pizza? Super delicious. So is the carnivore. I don't mess around with pizza, and this is good stuff. Order a cucumber moscow mule. You will not regret it. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is that the crowd is a little older than I'm used to. It's not necessarily the BEST place in the Des Moines/Ankeny area to meet people if you're in your twenties.

We are new to the community. I was so excited to try this place out with my husband and a few of my family members who were visiting from out of town. I had high hopes given the 4 out of 5 star rating! We were greeted and welcomed. We ordered drinks. Everything seemed fine until it wasn't anymore. My husband asked about the feta cheese because he's lactose intolerant so fresh cow milk makes him sick. He can have feta made from goat or sheep milk so we did not think asking this question was a big deal. The waitress brought him the bag of Stella feta crumbles from the kitchen so he could see for himself, I guess. It did not say on the bag so we were able to look around online and find out for sure that it was in fact made from cow's milk. By this time he knew he couldn't have a pizza made with feta instead of mozzarella so he opted for the grinder with no cheese, add banana peppers. The grinder came with cheese oozing out the side. Our waitress made us feel horrible for asking her to take it back and bring one without cheese. I explained that my husband ordered it without cheese because he would be physically ill if he ate it. She became slightly argumentative, huffed, and took it back to the kitchen. She returned with a grinder without cheese. We thanked her profusely. She just laid the plate down and walked away, sighing heavily and dramatically. The next sandwich came out cold and without banana peppers. My husband was just going to sit there while the rest of us ate, but I spoke up about it being cold. Again, heavy sigh, no words, stormed off to the kitchen as if she was mad at us. Our waitress was also extremely rude with us when we asked for forks twice, as if it were our fault that there were no clean and dry forks to provide (even though the restaurant was not even half full). I gave the second star because the pizza was good! My husband will not set foot in the place again. I believe in second chances, but I don't eat out a lot without him so I'm still hoping to find my friendly neighborhood pizza place.

I wanted to try a new pizza place in Ankeny and decided to give this place a go based on its positive reviews. I ordered the food for pickup so I do not have experience with dining in, possibly in the future I'll do that. In ordered a medium Eggroll pizza because everyone says it's good. I also got an order of the buffalo wings with blue cheese for an appetizer. I ordered on the phone and they said around 15 minutes. I arrived and it was ready to go. The wings were good! They were juicy and flavorful! The Eggroll pizza was not bad...I was honestly expecting lots of flavor. It was okay, but definitely would try something else next time. Overall a good experience, definitely want to try dining in and trying their other menu items!

One of the best pizza places we have been to! Local, friendly staff and local craft beers. The Gladiator pizza is our favorite.

Nice tavern atmosphere, we enjoyed a very good BBQ chicken pizza on thin crust. Delicious. Can't go wrong stopping in the WH!

Tried it tonight for the first time via take out. We asked what is the "best" when we called in and were told the eggroll pizza. Are you now reading this with a weird look on your face because that was the face I made when the guy said it. He kept saying "trust me" it's really good. Leery but curious we did half egg roll and half carnivore. The egg roll was ok, carnivore was better. Per my husband neither was worthy of him ever ordering again but I found both good (best if you need to stay in Ankeny pizza by far). If you are up for a drive try Encore in Johnston, Gusto downtown or Centro downtown (all far superior). What you need to be forewarned about it the gas that follows from those egg rolls....consider yourself warned.

Wheelhouse is a great place to go for some downhome atmosphere and great pizza. My favorite is the gyro pizza. It's tangy and savory and delicious. I'd also reccomend the chicken nachos, but don't expect to finish them by yourself!!

this would be three stars if i ordered the pizza to go. Here is a break down of the good and the bad. The good: 1. Very good thin crust pizza (carnivore is yummy, taco is meh) The bad: 1. Stood waiting by the door for 10 awkward minutes waiting to get the attention of the waiter to be seated 2. no high chairs - definitely not a place for families 3. wings are pre-cooked, I ordered the wings and they came out in literally two minutes...no way can they make fresh wings that quickly...and they were a bit rubbery 4. Not family friendly - asked for a kids cup for my son, they came back with a whiskey glass 5. waiter only came back when I called him for re-fills, you definitely need to be aggressive to get service here The pizza is good, the service is not. Save your time, order a pizza to go and enjoy it somewhere else. Eating pizza in your car is better than eating it here.

I amended my previous review. I've been back a few times since, and this place is pretty good - Pizza & Beer. Rate it for what it is... I liked it here. I was happy to see a new place with a little originality go up in Ankeny. Anyone who's visited other cities knows Des Moines is not known for their pizza, especially when the most popular pizza place in Iowa is a gas station. This is probably due to a lack of Italian heritage & culture, but anyway... Pros: Good draught beer with several local options on tap Pizza is good Service was good. (Although I would recommend educating the wait staff on the beers... The younger female waitress we had knew very little about the beer options) Cons: Pizza is a little pricey Menu is small / not many options besides pizza Not kid friendly, although we did bring 3 kids and managed just fine Seating is limited, but we did find seats within a few mins of arriving Wheel House is ideal for individuals to small and medium size groups looking for draught beer and pizza. I'll return. Would be 5 stars with better pricing. For good pizza I'd also recommend Leaning Tower in Ankeny and Encore Pizza in Johnston.

Are you ready for this? There is nothing better than an owner/operator who wants to please. And here the owner is the chef. Looked for a good pizza in Ankeny on a Saturday night late. Luck of the draw and it was great. The entire experience from start to finish was amazing. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't and I will go back.

Pizza was very good. We had 3 different kinds, all were great. Service was good. Price was very reasonable for7 people even with beers. We will go back.

Pizza is an excellent thin crust and the Graziano sausage was even served in slices! All locals know just how rare this is. The ambiance is a relaxed and modern take on an average pub. I love that the decor offers homage to Ankeny Lanes which originally occupies the space. The decor is a wonderful mesh of all things local. Why did we wait so long to give this place a shot? Pleasant surprise!

The place is pretty small and tables are wedged in. Bill from Bears greets you so that's a plus. The menu is small and does have a lot of misspelled words. The carnivore pizza was our dinner. I liked how the crust wasn't overly thick. The ratio of cheese and sauce to toppings was good. This place won't put other Ankeny favorites out of business but I'd go back to try something else.
