We love this place. Get the shrimp.wonton soup. Great spices too. We will be back SOON

Thai food in Ankeny is a godsend. This area isn't exactly known for its vibrant, diverse restaurant culture. The pad Thai lunch special clocks in at $6.95, which is a fine price to pay for a heaping plate of food. The red curry is solid. Protip: get level 6 spice if you consider yourself a heat aficionado. They tend to hold back the true spice at lower numbers.

We had great service. The table next to us had never had Thai so the waitress explained a lot of dishes. She was a great server and very friendly. We had crab rangoons, which were excellent. I had the Pad See Ew with chicken. It had great flavor and there was a bunch! My husband had Angry dish with pork and really enjoyed it. I asked for soy sauce and was given the choice of regular or low sodium, never had that before! I would definitely go back!

We have visited Thai Flavors twice now and have found the food consistently delicious and the service very good. Over the two visits, we have tried a variety of items: The Healthy Rolls, the egg rolls, Veggie delight, Drunken Noodles, a special of Sweet Basil with Seafood, among others. The serviings are always generous and the taste always fresh. Yesterday we splurged for dessert and LOVED The sticky rice with mango. YUM!!!! The only down-side to this experience is the lackluster decor/ambience, but for the price and quality of food...this is a great place.

I can tell you both the good and the bad. The good far outweighs the bad, especially if you order for takeout. Let's start with the good. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the food is amazing. This is one of the many Thai places I have tried and is easily the best in regards to taste. I highly recommend the Pad Thai! Ok, now the bad. They rarely have more than one waiter on hand. If you decide to dine at their Ankeny location, be prepared to flex your patience muscles. Maybe bring a coloring book with your favorite box of crayons to pass the time waiting for them to check on your drink needs. The only other bad aspect of Thai Flavors is that they charge you a whopping $5 for delivery. That's right, folks, $5 to get it to your place and that's without tip! If you place a phone order and pick up the food yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Since I've been spending alot of time in Ankeny recently, it was really nice to find a good thai place nearby. Me and my date ordered pad thai, and we were both very satisfied. I ordered mild and my date ordered medium heat, and we noticed that their spiciness scale is a little higher than other places we've tried. Nothing wrong with that, it added a nice kick to the meal. They were also generous with the beef in my pad thai. The restaurant itself is very small but the decor is simple and clean. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. The only complaint I had was that the restaurant was very hot inside, which made it a little uncomfortable especially when eating spicy food.

In an attempt to branch out and form a more well-rounded opinion of Thai in the DSM area, we tried Thai Flavors this past Wednesday evening. Overall, I'd say this place falls into the "it was okay, but I've had better" category. Service: very friendly, quite involved despite them being short staffed (I hope this was a fluke and not the norm: almost a full house with lots of carry-out orders and only two people working.) Food: alright. Went with your basic pad thai, spicy level 4, with tofu. Tofu was extremely over-fried (ugh!), but the pad thai was good. For someone who has a pretty high (but not super high) tolerance to spice, level 4 was pretty perfect, and I even could have gone a little higher! Boyfriend got the cashew chicken and really enjoyed it also - huge portion. Other notes: They close between 3-5 to (I assume) prep for dinner, so just a head's up if you're an early eater. Would go back in a pinch, but I definitely prefer the cuisine at Cafe Fuzion over Thai Flavors.

Green beans and noodles in my panang curry. Enough said. They advertise delivery but don't answer the phone. It took me 15 calls to get through and that was only because I called the Des Moines store to bring it to their attention. Their response!? they only have one server and one chef. Well, sorry, but not my issue. Employ more people to meet the business's need. Don't advertise delivery if you don't want to deliver. Don't put green beans and noodles in panang curry. We won't be frequenting your business anymore. We will also inform everyone we talk to that there is a new thai place in the area and it is outstanding. They care about their customers and deliver a much better product. If you change this place back to how it was before.... We might be back. Doubt that will happen so good luck!

I have always gone to the Thai Flavors in Des Moines and enjoyed it, so I thought I would give the one in Ankeny a try. At first glance the Ankeny location seems to be just a scaled down version of their Des Moines location. Staff is very friendly just like the one in Des Moines. Food quality was good, it was not too long of a wait to get our food. I really enjoy eating spicy food and Thai Flavors never disappoints when it comes to satisfying my spicy craving. I went during lunch hours and it was not busy, there were other customers, but it was not crowded, there were many people coming in to pick up takeout orders. Also the did not serve sushi at this location, not sure if it was only because if lunch or not at all. This is a very good Thai place in Ankeny, maybe the best.

I so want to like this little Thai restaurant. Sadly, their Pad Thai is too spicy with not enough peanuts for me. My Asian friend did not care for what he ordered here at all. We have been spoiled by Taste of Thai and The Spice in Ames.

Stopped here for lunch on the way between Lincoln, NE and Minneapolis, MN and wanted something that was not a chain. came here and so glad we did. We had yellow curry and red curry along with the lettuce wraps and all were quite good. Service was friendly and prompt but it also wasn't very busy at our late lunch stop. Glad to find this spot in Ankeny!

Very tasty and excellent service. We had our two year old with us and they gave her rock star treatment, with special utensils and bowl and making her $1.50 side of steamed noodles seem like a full priced entree. How you treat young diners is always an excellent test of character and these folks passed with flying colors.

Love the food here! Best crab Rangoon I've had. I also LOVE the Healthy rolls and the lettuce wraps. Best Thai food I've had and I love Thai! That atmosphere is clean, but not amazing, however the food makes up for it! Definitely my favorite restaurant in Ankeny!

Have really loved this place for a long time. However, we ordered delivery the other night and mine smelled and tasted like wet dog. It was simply terrible. I tried two bites and then had to throw it out because of how bad it was. Our other things were okay but not as great as they have been. We won't be going back or recommending it to anyone again for fear of a repeat.

Don't judge it based on appearances! It is just a little place in a strip mall but the food is wonderful. I had the beef pad thai with a coke for less than $10. I liked being able to regulate how spicy my meal would be, but since I had no experience with their scale I went for the middle and did a 3-Hot. It was a great balance between spicy but not so strong that I had to dive for my drink with every bite. My 5 star rating is based on 1) Flavor 2) Value (portion vs cost) and 3) Service.

We have been here several times in the past few years, and I think this is important when writing a review, especially for this Thai Flavors. This restaurant is not very consistent. In service, and in the food. The service is much better than it used to be, but still needs work. The food can be cold or hot, I guess it depends on who is cooking it. It can be very flavorful, not so flavorful. We would come to this location much more often if there was more consistency, most of the time we go to the Des Moines location. I would recommend the Des Moines location much more if you are in the mood for Thai food. We only go to this location because we live in Ankeny and if we are hungry for Thai and too tired to go to Des Moines. :) I recommend the crab Rangoon and Sweet Basil. The sauce is awesome for the Sweet Basil.

Decent food, I love their pad thai. Food is always fresh and hot. $5 delivery fee is the only thing keeping me from ordering more.

I've only gotten take-out but service is always excellent and quick. Love love love the chicken pad thai and their crab rangoons are phenomenal!!!!!

Alright Thai food, nothing too stand out from this place. You will get a good value for your buck if you decided to stop in.

Thai Flavors is A-OK with me. I'm not quite sure why, but they never seem to be particularly busy when I visit. That means the food comes out very quickly, and the servers are always right on top of refilling my water glass (a major accomplishment - I drink a LOT of water when I'm eating spicy food). I would guess that the restaurant is not particularly packed because the majority of their orders are actually for delivery or pickup, but the atmosphere is nice enough and they have a decent beer and wine selection, so I like to eat in the restaurant. (Of course, it's nice to have the option of ordering delivery.) I appreciate that you can specify your spiciness level when you order - I haven't gotten above just plain "hot" yet, but I'm working my way up there! The curry is terrific and I love the spring rolls; everything else I've tried so far has been fine but not outstanding. One caveat - everything on the menu that's made with crab is actually made with the fake pressed whitefish stuff, including the crab rangoon. I am personally not a Krab fan and was disappointed to see the fake stuff turn up in my crab rangoon, but it might not matter to others. On the plus side, they have plenty of vegetarian options - as a matter of fact, they have lots of everything options! The menu is pretty extensive. The food is reasonably priced, and although it's not the best Thai food I've ever had, it certainly gets the job done - especially for Ankeny, home of chain restaurant everything. I had to laugh at the previous review that said "best Thai food in Ankeny... because there is no other Thai food in Ankeny." Yep, that sounds about right!!

My son was visiting from VA and while we watched the kids he and his wife went to dinner. He visited this Thai restaurant and raved about it so much and my wife and I decided to try it. We've been there 3 time now, and love it I have to admit, that we had wonderful meals. The atmosphere is casual and the prices are VERY reasonable. We may actually be Thai fans thanks to my son. I'm not sure we would have tried this place without his recommendation.

Excellent Thai!! We like this one better than the one in Des Moines. It would probably rank a 4-star in Chicago so it is that good. They make it to order every time! We've never left with leftovers either. It's so good that we can't stop eating it! Be very careful of the "Iowan Hot", it makes my husband sweat instantly but he loves it...the hotter, the better for him! We've went 3 times and we'll be back for more soon!

Compared to the other Thai restaurants in Ankeny, this place is the best. Ok, there aren't any other thai places in Ankeny, but hopefully some more ethnic restaurants are on the way. I really liked this place. Nothing special. The food is average for thai but above average compared to the other options in Ankeny. The Iowan Hot is awesome. I was sweating the entire time and it tasted great. If you like spicey food, they will make it for you. Also, it seems like a family restaurant, so thats good.

Thai Flavors is about the only place I would go for Thai in Ankeny. I believe it is owned by the same group that runs Cool Basil and so you know the management is solid. I have had curry and stir fry dishes at this location and both were excellent. Good massaman curry, especially. The ambiance won't win you over nor will the service but I must say for its consistency, price, and quality of food, I give it 4 stars.

We ate here today on a whim and were very pleasantly surprised! We found the restaurant to be very clean(including the bathrooms).I had the Tom Yum soup as an appetizer and found it to be one of the best soups I have ever ate! The blend of sweet and spicy were right on! My husband had the mixed vegetable soup. It was very tastey with very fresh vegetables. Both of our entrees were prepared to our requested star rating with high quality meats and fresh vegetables. Our waiter kept our glasses filled at just the right times. I so wish I had found this restaurant sooner! I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu!

I have to disagree with Matthew. I don't feel that the prices are expensive, unless you are judging it on a Fast Food scale. In that case, yes, $10 is a lot to pay for a meal. In terms of the atmosphere, it's not Shangri La, but la di da. Though it's certainly not a feast for the eyes, it is clean, and seating is not cramped. On to the food. The menu is virtually the same as Cool Basil, sans the newly added sushi at the West Des Moines staple (same owners). Same star rating and everything (including ****** for "Iowa Hot", for which I can't help but visualize the smirk on their faces as they wrote that; Iowans in general like their food as bland as possible) I would disagree that the menu is heavily weighted toward Chinese rather than Thai. Going from memory, I do recall such "Chinese" staples as spring rolls and crab rangoons, but I do believe that's where the Chinese comparison should end. I don't remember anything else that would be associated with Chinese food. Yes there are fried rice dishes, but it's not the same as Chinese fried rice. Fantastic curry, every bit as good as Cool Basil (see previous note on C.B.). If you are not feeling adventurous, try the basil with beef stirfry (don't recall the exact title). It's a very simple Thai stirfry. My wife loves the Thai custard and the sticky rice for a dessert. I would have to agree with her. On each entree you can specify the level of spiciness, or heat, ranging from 0 to 6 stars. If you would normally go to a Mexican restaurant and find the salsa spicy, don't go above **. The first time I went to Cool Basil, I ordered the Red Duck Curry, and got ****. I cried (even though I loved every minute of it), my wife (then fiancee) laughed. I have since been able to work up to *****, but have not been able to try the unfortunately named "Iowa Hot" spice level. Maybe next time. Overall this is a viable option for eating out in Ankeny on the cheap. *UPDATE* I ate here last night, and had the Roasted Duck Curry, with six stars. I survived. Either I'm becoming really jaded about spicy food, or there is little difference between four and six stars. I finished the entire entree, no tears, no endless requests for water, no big deal.

Decent food, but not on par with the Des Moines location. Small inside, but I've never had to wait for a table. The food usually comes out fairly quickly, and service is decent but nothing spectacular. It's good for a dinner every once in a while, but I wouldn't go out of my way or make a special trip for it.

This place has very good food. I have sampled just about everything on the menu. My personal favorites would be the Kua Kai, red curry-fried rice, or the Angry dish. The place is small but its clean and has a nice atmosphere. Be careful if you go with 6 stars its not the most consistent rating system I have ever experienced. I like it super spicy, sometimes you get that with 6 stars and sometimes you don't. This is a place that I highly recommend

Expensive. Recommend take-out. Diverse menu. Food is okay, but not great.
