Went there for A drink after Mayweather fight. We had a great time. Cheap drinks. Nice people. It's just a typical small town bar. Don't expect 20 tv's showing anything from horse races to bowling. Good happy hour deals. Food is nothing special, mostly frozen pizza. Nice place to get a drink after work and chill.

Town bar crap. Bla bla bla. The past four reviews are from those that do not appreciate the small town charm of "dive bars." These other reviews have no right to partake in commentary on whether they like or dislike this bar as "newbies" of Ankeny. As far as dive bars go, this is it. Cheap drinks, and bartenders that will chat it up, as long as you show them you are a real person with real problems. Take some time to get to know the crew. They all have their own small town quirks. No matter how big Ankeny gets, Jake's will always remind you where this city came from. The combination of good deals, great people, and that small town head turning that may or may not occur upon the entrance of an outsider is what makes Jake's what it is. A five star bar in it's category of "dive bars" in Ankeny. Get your nose down to our level and realize no matter how far we go, we always remember where we came from. Once a hawk, always a hawk. Who gives two shits if the bartenders were born and raised here. They love their jobs and love their clientele. Get your heads out of your asses and appreciate a good dive bar when you see one.

Townie bar my ass. Ankeny is not a college town or a podunk town. It's a growing, thriving city and Jake's is changing too. Everyone here (staff & patrons) is always friendly. If u found otherwise, then maybe u shud look in the mirror. U might not get preferential treatment, but ur welcome here. I only come like once a month yet feel at home every time.

This is the kind of townie bar where you walk in, all conversation screeches to a halt, and the entire populace of the bar turns their heads simultaenously to look at you. Really. It's like going back to the small town where your former high school classmates are now tending bar, except I'm not from Ankeny... thus the synchronized head-swiveling. When I first moved to Ankeny, this was about the only place to get a decent beer on tap. Luckily, we now have Old Chicago, Wig and Pen, and a billion other places so there's no longer any need for me to experience 20 heads turning to look at me in perfect unison.

I agree with the last review. It's a towny bar and the only sound in the bar when an outsider walks in is the music. Come on Ankeny don't get too stuffy. I'm a local too but just new. That's why Tonic is kicking butt and taking names...they're friendly all the time especially the bartenders. They get "it"...the nicer you are the more drinks they buy and the better tip they give! Just good business sense! So, the service sucks too. Unfriendly and uncomfortable!

Townies galore. Man, I haven't been here in a long time. Gotta love strip-mall bars. Unremarkable inside, cramped seating. On a high note, it used to be one of the only locations around Ankeny to get Guinness on tap. I drove by last night, and they had a Fat Tire neon sign in the window. Brownie points for that.

It's a townie bar but who cares? I have no problem walking into any bar anywhere have a drink, enjoy myself, and meet new people. I will say the bartendars can b pretty slow if your new but u gotta speak up if u want a drink!
