Food is great, staff is not service oriented, the helpful smile in every isle stops when you walk through those sliding glass doors into the Market Grille. They were also 20 min. late with our reservation we'd made a week prior.

This review is for the North Hy Vee Market Grille location. I actually have been to both numerous times. We stopped by last week for a quick drink and some apps. It was a Wednesday afternoon. There were a few specials: local crafts are $3 (best deal in town) and 1/2 price apps. But don't be fooled. Their portions are very small. An order of wings is 8, but there're only 6 small wings per order. Yes. it's worth it when you pay 1/2 price for that, but i would not pay full price. Their sushi is also half off on Wednesdays. They put too much rice inside. Way too much. i wonder how much of their stuff is freshly made to order since their deli is just right there. If you're in Hyvee and in the mood for a cold beer, stop in. If there's no special that day, skip it.

OK, this is the second time within a month that I've experienced lackluster service. I would given them fewer stars if the Ruben wasn't so excellent. The best around here since the Chicago Dog and Deli at 6th and Euclid Avenues in Highland Park closed three, four years ago. Anyway, the first time I thought the service was haflassed was on a Sunday. But this is Thursday after the usual Iowa dinnertime rush and it wasn't busy. The served didn't notice me until she started busing a table. At least she acknowledged I had not been waited upon as did the manager. To placate me somewhat, the server brought some doughy, slightly sweet roll that was awful. One bite was enough. Yuck.

Last night, my boyfriend and I had to go to Ankeny for an errand, and since we've been happy with the smaller Market Cafe in Pleasant Hill, we wanted to try out their full menu. The restaurant is airy and something you wouldn't expect in a grocery store, featuring a full bar and modern decor. We were there during happy hour, which offered a dollar off draft beers and certain appetizers. We ordered the bruschetta, which I wasn't super impressed with. The baguette wasn't warm at all and lacked crunch. I ordered the 8 ounce sirloin steak, which came with a baked potato and I chose broccoli as my second side. My boyfriend got the salmon steak with wild rice and sweet potato fries. My steak was a perfect medium, lean and flavorful. The broccoli was perfectly steamed. I also remembered why a baked potato can be a good side dish. The salon was lemony and seasoned properly. Our server was attentive, without being overly so, and we were both satisfied and left full. We will definitely be back!

The Market Grill is located right inside Hy-Vee and you can either order from their full service menu or select from one of the many food stations outside the restaurant or salad bar. We ordered a few burgers and they were fairly slow to arrive. But the Mac and cheese burger was worth the wait!! The sweet potato fries were also delicious. My husband enjoyed the Asian chicken sandwich! Then we split a creamy cream brûlée for desert. Server was super sweet, bubbly and quick to check on us giving us order status and refills! Also love the atmosphere. Kind of a laid back sports bar style. Overall I'm impressed that Hyvee has a full service restaurant inside the store!

I was very timid when Hy-Vee started making the Markets. I, probably like you , thought it's a grocery store. It can't be that good, but let me tell you wow! I'm very impressed with how well its operated. First off they are an excellent place to just eat casually. The atmosphere is dim lights and a bar in the corner. It's got a very intimate feel. Some of the tables have plug ins for laptops and phone chargers. Free wifi is also available. Servers are super friendly and down to earth. They are spot on. Always recommending things without hesitation. My favorite time to eat here is on Sunday. It's a must! They have Sunday brunch. You have shrimp, waffles, cereal, omelettes, eggs, bacon, dessert and so so much more. Also anything served out in the the go area is included. All you can drink mimosas and Bloody Mary's for an extra fee. During the other times I've had Hannah in Exile(a burger with peanut butter and bananas, marinated in exile beer), sushi(all of them and all taste great), pulled pork nachos(a must!), chicken Cesar salad(filling), and the Chinese for one which can feed two and is made to order. They also give honey buns for an appetizer. They are delicious! You can't go wrong eating here. It takes you by surprise and its a great place to sit at the bar and watch sports. Stop in and be surprised!!

When this first opened up, I was the biggest fan. I told everyone to go there. The menu has many healthy options, there is a full bar, and the food and service were first class. Five stars all the way. They've slipped to three stars because one of the last timse I was there I had a steak that really wasn't cooked properly and it was expensive. If you have to send it back, it's just not the same. Also, I ordered a burger through the To Go service -- which is a great service -- but they botched my order and took over a half-hour to bring it to me in the parking lot. By the time I got it, it was cold. Sigh.

I believe HyVee just recently (a year ago) began to have their Market Grille section of their stores as a restaurant style eatery. I was always curious how the eating experience would be like here and finally got a chance to try it out. Upon entering you are greeted and sat down and you forget you're in a HyVee and feel like you're in a nice restaurant. The decor, the staff, the atmosphere all point to this place being a nice restaurant. Their menu is not extensive which is good, sometimes you don't want to be bombarded with too many options. We started off with the traditional buffalo wings for an appetizer. I ordered the mozarella cheese and tomato flatbread pizza and my friend ordered the chicken alfredo pasta. The wings were pretty good, the only concern was it took about 10 minutes to come out of the kitchen, pretty long for an appetizer in my opinion. The flatbread pizza was okay, I thought it was a bit too dry (due to higher ratio of flatbread to the topping). The chicken alfredo pasta would have been a homerun, only the chicken grill marks had a very very burnt taste that I believe affected the dish negatively. The price is also what you would expect to pay if you were eating at a restaurant. One thing I learned is that their "Buffet" option is that you can go up to their hot food section (Chinese food, hot specials of the day, salad bar, side items) anything other than their sandwiches and sushi is all free game for the buffet which is around $14 I believe. Overall, had a decent experience, would try again!

Delicious and fresh. My husband and I split the Chinese meal for one - sesame chicken. It's not the same as what's in their fast kitchen that you'd get to go. It's much better, lighter and fresher. For just $10, we were stuffed with the soup and side. Plus, kids 5 and under always eat free from the buffet, which includes the salad bar with fruit and such. Good deal for our family!

We were so surprised by this place! You completely forget that you're in Hyvee. It's quiet and classy. Our server Emily was awesome and very helpful. Drinks from the bar are fantastic and on Saturdays they have steak on special!
