I have been here many times and always got good food and good service until today. The services was horrible with us running out of chips and drinks and we never got refills because our server was no where to be found. My sons didn't get what he ordered but the server didn't come back until we were already finished and waiting for the bill. My food was cold like it had been in the refrigerator. I am hoping this is just a one time issue because normally this is my favorite place in Ankeny.

This is a very solid Mexican foot restaurant in Ankeny. The waitstaff is always prompt and attentive. They serve complimentary chips with a tomato based salsa and a white salsa. The menu has a wide selection. The food is pretty decently priced. There seems to be plenty of seating available, and I've never experienced a wait. Their margaritas look pretty good, although I've never tried.

This is by far the best Mexican restaurant I've been too, have been going to it for 8 years. The food here has always been great and the staff is always very friendly. The chips and salsa are consistently great, get either the cheese dip or guacamole and you'll be glad you got those. The Texas Dip is now my favorite thing to get here(fajita meats in cheese sauce with tortillas). Try any of there shrimp items and it could be some of the best shrimp you've ever had. The quesadilla fajita dinner is a excellent option too love the rice that comes with that also. It is great to go to a place where they recognize you when you walk in. Maybe we go there too much but it is great food. The restaurant recently switched to Los Charros and the food has gotten even better!

Greeted immediately and sat in a great booth. Place was busy the entire time we were there. Large menu but we were there for lunch so the lunch menu sufficed! Staff was super friendly and service professional. Drinks always topped off. Good salsa and quest to start the meal and food was fresh and hot. Restaurant was clean and open. Easy to get around inside. Private parking lot for the strip mall so it is always easy to park. We will definitely return.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in town! It differs slightly from other Mexican restaurants I've been to because of the menu and food quality. The menu is very clean, as in, it is organized and the descriptions are well written so you know exactly what you are getting. The service was excellent, server always made sure our water, salsa, and chips were filled. Their chips and salsa by the way was very good, not overpowering. Their food was good, it was well presented and you can taste the different flavors going on with the dish. I can't wait to come back to try their other dishes!

This Mexican restaurant is now named Los Charros. Three girlfriends and I were very pleased with the presentation, generous proportions, prices and taste of the food. They were very busy Friday night so we waited 10 minutes for a table. The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. We had table side guac made for our group and it tasted as good as the guac I had the week before in Mexico! Fajitas and seafood enchiladas were delicious!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
