i ordered sesame chicken. it was served in less than 30 seconds and was grey inside. the rice was dry and oddly brittle, somehow. a few bites were enough to make me incredibly nauseous. worst chinese food i've ever had in my life, and i've had a lot of really bad chinese food. mongolian grill is gourmet compared to this garbage. avoid

Mongolian Chicken and Pork Fried Rice are our favorites. Used to come to Little Taipei when it was still managed by the original owner, back in the previous location. Though the food now is not as tasty as it was then, I still come here for their Mongolian Chicken & Pork fried rice whenever I visit Ames.

It is the one of the Chinese restaurants in Ames. I always think that there is too much salt in each dish. Maybe , because the cook is a Mexican

I thought this place was great. Much nicer than various reviews have claimed it to be. Very clean restaurant and friendly/fast service.

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in Ames, even better than my usual stand-by, Chinese Homestyle Cooking. The portions are great, the fried rice has the perfect ratio of egg:rice:vegetable:meat, the fried dumplings are perfection. The only downside is that they don't deliver.

I think "Meh" sums it up. Although the chinese folks I was eating lunch with seemed to think it "authentic", I thought the meat was a little gross, the sauce was a little goopy. Just not that impressed.

This place should be renamed "Little Crapei." Anyone who thinks their food is good must have been born without taste buds. If your idea of a good meal is a dish that looks like something a cat would vomit up, then this is the place for you. Don't throw your money away. Avoid eating here at all costs.

I live in Denver now, but I cannot believe how much I miss Little Taipei. I always have to go there when I visit Ames. Don't expect much customer service, but it's more than fair at their prices. I'm sure there are some dishes that are sub-par, but I am always happy with my go-to dishes of Angry Chicken and Vegetable Thin Rice Noodles.

I honestly hate all the chinese restaurants in Ames. And having a ISU boyfriend that loves eating cheap chinese food, I've been dragged to every single one of them in Ames in hopes of finding one that I half care for. They all have about the same quality which isn't high. The taste is all pretty similar as well, bland. I'm from Chicago... so I guess I've been spoiled with better Chinese food. And I am Taiwanese but I don't feel Little Taipei is particularly Taiwanese. I do prefer Little Taipei over Mayhouse or golden wok or cocoast. And that chinese restaurant next to hyvee is gawd awful. I'd rank little taipei with homestyle in quality, but I'd rather not eat at either. The cafe is still my restaurant fave in Ames.

Absolutely terrible customer service. The main lady/guy (could not tell), had terrible bad breath and would constantly make condescending comments to me while I was paying. Finding a glob (no joke) of hair in the food was just an added bonus. Cleanliness is a low priority at this place.

Quick, delicious and friendly, Little Taipei is one of the most popular restaurants among ISU students. Worth checking out - I've always enjoyed my food there!

Simply delicious dishes! Best kung pao chicken I've had in Ames, and an amazing variety of things to try!

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant of all-time. I've been going here since 1994 and I get the same thing every time-Sweet and Sour Chicken. The only place that rivals Little Taipei is the Hung Ah tea room in China town in San Fran. Every time I'm back in town I stop by and get my Little Taipei fix. I love their sweet and sour sauce.

Good cheap americanized chinese food; fastest service in town (faster than McDonalds). The food is above average and always cooked to order. If you're on a budget and short on time, this is the place for you.

Unexpected outcome at this eatery! Although this place doesn't look too appealing from the outside, AND the menu is a little confusing, food is good. Authentic flavor and great portions. Would give it a try again!

This place was a staple in college and for many years after. WAS always good price and reliable quality. This visit is unfortunately our last. Poor food quality, rice served with meal was cakey and dry. $8 per meal to boot. We were there on a fri eve and not a single other customer came in while we were there. Table next to us sat there with dirty dishes for whole time we were there as well. Too bad.

Wow! Hole-in-the-wall with very, very good food. My Earthy Paradise with eggplant, potatoes and pork was very tasty. My friend raved about her curried vegetables and milk tea bubble tea.

There was recently a change of owner! There are changes to the menu and the food taste a lot better than before! If you've had a bad experience at this place before, give it another try!

I've loved this place since college (many years ago). Awesome food, large portions. The only thing I don't understand is why they serve warm cans of beer and pop. I get water, which is fine. Still worth going for the food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
