Food was pretty good but swapping away mosquitoes and being eaten alive while trying to eat was very annoying. The place has an out door place seating, where it is covered on top but it's basically missing a wall. Atmosphere is pretty nice, with interesting stuff on the walls and a little water fountain thing on the side. The service was pretty decent over all, there was a few misunderstandings but she was able to handle a pretty large group (9) well. Food wise the pupus: chicken satay better than beef satay better than spring roll For the main dishes: Panang curry was better than the Cornish game hen but that had a lot of bones in it, and that was better than the pad thai. The Bbq pork was also pretty good, but my guess is the curries are probably the best thing.

On my first night in Maui we were all too tired to go out to eat, (and had been drinking too.) My cousin, who lives nearby, suggested this restaurant. We ordered takeout, (which wasn't ready when we arrived.) I had a mixed seafood saute, (crab, squid, shrimp, and a few veggies.) I also ordered brown rice, and shared some very light and fresh spring rolls with my friend and cousin. Prices were ok, and the food was ok. Nothing bad, but nothing special either. Unfortunately, something my friend and I ate bothered our tummies a bit, and we were a little uncomfortable the next day. There are better places in the area, so I wouldn't return.

Now that I've figured out what not to order here, it's become a once a week joint. Great selection for vegetarian eaters. Has my vote for best Thai on Maui. The summer rolls, pad Thai, curries, and evil dish are all solid in my opinion. Normally love papaya salad, but sadly theirs is weird and fishy tasting

I've never had panang curry with peanut butter but it was really good! Price was decent and their outdoor seating was nice. There is a little pond with tacky pink flamingos, but they don't bite.
(4)Carol T.
Amazing Thai food. We had Tom yum soup, yellow curry chicken and Thai basil pork. Everything was yummy! Waiter was nice and chatty. Good was fast. Don't miss this if you are looking for real Thai food!

My husband & i decided to take a walk into Wailuku town (5-10 min walk fr our house) & we decided to have some thai food. This place is kind of hidden but well maintained, the inside is really beautiful, we got to sit outside with the breeze coming thru on a very humid day. We went at lunch time & it was very comfortable & relaxing due to it wasnt busy at all. There was only 1 server & she was really nice & sweet. I ordered the phad thai vegetable & it was amazing. The bathrooms made me feel like i was home & it was really clean. I would love to go back again.

We love Saeng's! Been coming here for years & what a hidden gem here in Wailuku. You can't tell how awesome it's going to be until you walk inside & stumble upon their beautiful outdoor zen garden seating. You may also sit inside if you prefer, but the ambiance outside is so relaxing. Server Bill is always friendly & helpful as are the owners. We've found the best time to go is around 7:30pm, when it finally quiets down & you have what seems like a private dining experience a lot of evenings. The food is so delicious & portions are perfect. Favs are definatley beef salad, coconut soup, shrimp spring rolls, beef satay, chicken panang, pineapple fried rice, pad Thai, & Evil Prince. Thai iced tea is sweet & delicious as well as the dessert that isn't on the menu! It's a banana lumpia with a caramel type sauce served hot with cold coconut ice cream on the side. Real tasty! This place is the real deal, tucked away in the heart of Wailuku town.

SO AMAZING. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and the coconut tofu soup. The spring rolls were so tasty and the coconut tofu soup was unique (included lemon grass and non-standard mushrooms, amongst other things) and delicious. Wish I lived in Maui! I'd come here every week. The waitress was also helpful and sweet. The atmosphere here is great. You can sit in a kind of outdoor patio area or you can sit indoors. We sat inside where there was a nice breeze coming from outside (it was quite stormy when we visited, but the wind was still warm and a nice addition to the overall eating experience). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Great hole in the wall Thai spot. I'd say it's the best Thai on Maui. Food is reasonably priced, beautiful indoor/outdoor setting, and good service. They make everything after you order, so it takes a little time.... Panang beef, papaya salad, pahd see ewe, and both the red and yellow curries are some of my favorites.
(4)Shauna L.
I tried this place twice since I work close by. I tried the papaya salad and it was not that great. I would never order it again. Especially for the price. Total rip off. Plus, it seemed like they used bottled lime juice instead of fresh. It had that bottled lime juice funky taste to it. I decided to try them again and get a hot dish this time. I got the pad se ew and it wasn't that flavorful and the noodles, chicken and vegetables seemed all overcooked. After that last attempt I will not be going back again. If you want really good fresh and yummy Thai food head to Thai Spice in Paia.

Food was pretty good, could have used more spice. Servers were totally overwhelmed and we waited a long time for drinks and never did get those napkins!
(3)Tammie T.
Stopped by for lunch because we heard it was tasty. Beautiful garden dining area. Service a little awkward and slow but food came out in a timely manner. We ordered the yellow curry chicken, red curry chicken and spring rolls. It was delish! They won't come back to refill water or ask is there anything else. The check didn't come in a timely manner nor did they come back to get it once credit card was place inside. The food was good enough that we will come again!
(4)Doris D.
We love this place. The inside is open and airy with a little pond. The food is good and reasonably priced. I'm surprised to see negative reviews on here but I guess that's yelp for you. The staff has always been nice to us and very welcoming. By far one of the few good places left to eat on Maui!
(4)G. M.
All dishes ordered had great flavor, but everything came out cold to Luke warm at best. Average service.
(3)JJ J.
When you go to find this place, you'll probably be somewhat sketched out by the neighborhood and the storefront, but once you get inside, it's a completely different story. The staff was very friendly and the food was outstanding. Some of the best kung pao chicken I've ever had, and it definitely came out "thai hot". My wife's veggie fried rice was also very tasty. And they were very attentive to her gluten free diet. I wish I was staying in Maui longer so that I could have a chance to go back.
(5)Alyssa M.
It is beautiful but portions are small, rice isn't included, and the service wasn't great for it being so empty.

We were the first customers of the day. I am from Washington State and I know really good Thai places in areas of where I use to live. When I walked into the restaurant, it had us feeling like we were in another area. Like it wasn't Maui. There is beautiful decor throughout the restaurant and the service was amazing. We ordered green curry with beef, chicken phad thai, and sweet and sour pork. I really didn't know what to expect when I came. But the food was really good. It was like I was back in Washington. The curry had that coconut taste, with a kick of spice. The meet in the curry was tasty and soft. The chicken phad thai had that taste that I can't explain. But if you know phad thai, you know what I'm talking about :) The sweet and sour pork was ok. It was your usual sweet and sour pork. But still- I highly recommend this place to friends and family to eat at. It's has a wonderful atmosphere and just great overall!
(4)Mark N.
Delicious!! Their thai papaya salad had both the authentic taste without overdoing it. Beautiful multi-dimensional restaurant: outdoor, partial outdoor, comfy indoor. The waitress was kind and everything was as order with all the little specificity no problem.
(5)Whitney S.
The food was good, but the overall experience was so terrible that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I *might* give it another chance, but they didn't do much to earn it. We came in for lunch at 12:30 - there was no hostess, and the front part of the restaurant was empty. The owner was sitting at the bar on his computer. We stood and waited for about 5 minutes before a server poked her head out from the back, saw us standing there, and said "go ahead and sit anywhere outside". She didn't welcome us, or even bother to come out of the kitchen. We headed to their outdoor garden area, which is a nice space, and there were two large parties finishing up, and a small table who were eating. Every single other table in the entire area was dirty. Dishes, mess on the tables, etc. Guessing that the server or busperson would be out right away to clean one for us, we awkwardly stood next to the table of our choice.....for another full 5 minutes. This isn't a big place, so we were basically hovering over the large parties while they finished eating until the same server came back out and noticed us there. Then she went back into the kitchen with us standing there next to the dirty table for another few minutes before she decided to come out and clean it for us. While we were being seated, the two large parties paid their checks and left. Those tables, along with all the others that were dirty, stayed dirty the entire duration of our lunch. Not one dish was bussed or wiped down, so we got to stare and dirty tables for meal. The owner/manager, by the way, was still hanging out at the bar, staring at his computer. The server took a while to get to our table to take our order, which seemed odd to me since at that point we were one of two tables, and the other table had already received their food. Food came relatively quickly, which was nice, but we had to ask several times for cutlery/chopsticks, so the food was cooling by the time we actually had something to eat it with. I had Mild chicken Pad Thai - plenty of chicken, good flavor. My husband had Medium Spicy Pad Thai, and it was so hot, he was sweating. And he LOVES ultra spicy food. So they don't really have that system down well either. Our friend ordered Shrimp Curry, which was actually a bowl of shrimp and vegetables floating in a soupy, slightly curry flavored broth. He said the flavor was okay, though not at all like a real Shrimp Curry. All that with a $60 price tag for lunch.....not worth it at all. Until the owners and staff actually start caring about the place, I would never recommend it for Thai on Maui.

we just got served the wrong dish, didn't notice hate half of it they had the waiter came and took it away saying it was the wrong dish. What ask why he didn't just leave it he said it had to go back to go back to the kitchen . not sure why but we won't be going back.
(1)Monique C.
Yummy! Very good food~ We always order the green papaya salad (with no fish sause) and the chicken curry. Service is always prompt and friendly. Looks like not a lot from the outside..but once you get in they have a lush/garden seating area..ahh the charm of Wailuku... ;) **U gotta try this place for a nice relaxing dinner**

We read a review from our Maui guidebook and it led us here. At first, we had trouble finding it. In fact, we must have circled the block 3 times! But, we found it. A little relunctant at first because the streets were so quiet and there was literally no one around, but after a minute of debating my boyfriend and I decided to park the car and walk in. Wow... what a surprise. It was nicer and there were more people inside than we thought. We were seated right away. We ordered two entrees: Pad Thai and the Panang curry with grilled mahi mahi. Both orders came out in less than 15 minutes. The Pad Thai: super simple - there wasn't too much flair. We should have asked for more chili spice. Still good, in a traditional sense. I can't remember the price on this one. The Panang Curry with grilled mahi mahi: I absolutely loved it! The fish tasted fresh, flaky, and the curry was rich and tasty. $13.95 Seating was interesting, outdoors, kind of like in a giant gazebo and in fact, it reminded me a lot of like a typical restaurant in Vietnam. Overall, it was a real gem. If we go back to Maui, I'd definitely come here again.
(4)Melinda J.
This two-star review, when I'm usually inclined to be generous and easy to please, is solely because of the owner/manager. We are from out of town, and we were meeting some local friends for dinner. We were a large party, so we made a reservation. When we arrived and mentioned the reservation, Bill (or maybe Bob) just threw up his hands and said, "I don't know about reservations, but you can sit over there." Ordering cocktails was basically an exercise in the art of "No" - the bar seemed to be very limited, which isn't a huge problem because Thai restaurants don't usually focus on liquor. But Bill/Bob was so curt and unpleasant that we felt stupid for asking! The food itself was competently done, though the portions weren't very generous. The interior of the restaurant is pleasant, and partially open to the outside - we definitely needed our sweaters as Wailuku can be a bit damp and chilly. But there are so many excellent Thai restaurants on the island that I don't think we'll go back. It's just not worth the Bill/Bob factor.
(2)Jesse B.
Supposedly this place is amazing, as I kept hearing and reading, but I know my Thai and this was the worst I have ever had. The yellow curry was definitely Indian and did not have the same taste as all other dishes I've had. Not only that, the ingredients were odd using carrots and potatoes in everything. I'm pretty sure this isn't the norm and it wasn't what I wanted from the dish I ordered. Not only that, both dishes tasted "off" and I'm not sure why. But since this is Hawaii, I know it would be very easy to make the food just that tad bit more authentic. The service wasn't fantastic either. There was only one guy helping out a few tables, which was fine but getting his attention was rather difficult. Three times my dad and I had to get a little overly-animated to get his attention for simple things, which was highly annoying. Despite the unexpected Thai food taste and the somewhat awkward service, it was a nice place with an easy, Hawaiian porch setting for an evening meal.

Yep it's a keeper. Came here several yeas ago and likes it then and still do. Downtown area so there is local flavor in architecture. The style of restaurant is worth the trip as well as the tasty menu. Our service was 4 star! Hope it's not years before I can visit this place again
(4)Aimee R.
You would never guess looking at the outside of this restaurant that it would hold so many treasures inside, but it certainly does! Beautiful ambiance and friendly waitstaff, a great place to go for a special occasion! AND- the curry is amazing!! My boyfriend and I are obsessed with curry, and we have had a hard time finding good curry since we moved on island 7 months ago. But now we have our new gold standard! Thanks Saeng's!
(5)Richard B.
This is our favorite Thai restaurant in Maui. Excellent coconut soup. Nice open air ambience.
(4)Chase R.
Over-priced, average taste, and way too small of drinks with all ice. But the inside is nice. Place is just totally average and should be cheaper for a place on vineyard.
(3)Joanna S.
I agree that this place is very good. My boyfriend and I went here on the recommendation of Jennifer B. (see below). It was a beautiful night and the garden outside had some decorated raindeer for christmas. The place was full of locals (we might have been the only tourists here). I had the steamed vegetables with praram sauce, which was excellent. I had them throw some pineapples on top for good measure, which was a good choice as well. Definitely worth coming here again.
(4)B W.
I've been here many times over the years. Food taste cross the board it's pretty good for Thai. Service varies by # guests vs. service staff who are typically few but try, often distracted by the larger parties at times. The outdoor patio/garden area is one of the charms of this place besides it's outdated/semi-rustic feeling. Typically a good experience... never a bad meal.
(4)Gianna R.
We went here last night b4 the Buffett Concert its a quaint lil place in Wailuku that really does make you feel you stepped off Maui and onto Thailand the decor and atmosphere was very Thai... The Service was a bit slow but it was only 1 server and she did a great job.... The food was surprisingly very good and very authentic tasting... We started out with 2 appetizers the Chicken Satay and the Spring Rolls they were both very good the peanut sauce was a lil thick but if you mixed it with the sweet and sour sauce it tasted perfect.. I had the Thai Basil Sauce Chicken and ordered it Hot and it was nice and spicy I also got a side of fried rice and my meal was perfect.. My friend ordered the Thai Ginger Chicken with the Sticky Rice and his meal was perfect to.. So if you want good Authentic Thai then check this place out...
(5)Sam M.
Came over here for First Friday. Had heard good reviews about the place, and wanted to catch the festivities after dinner. Unfortunately, there was only one server for the entire restaurant. We waited about 40 minutes from the time we sat down to when our food was served, and even when the food came, we received the wrong order. The food was alright, but nothing spectacular.
(3)Elizabeth C.
best curry in wailuku! love going there for lunch!
(5)Stephanie S.
Nice venue; you walk into a restaurant and also find a nice outdoor patio garden area with small ponds with tiny fish swimming about. Great for little kids. Very serene for a dinner location as well. Service was decent. Very nice and friendly staff. Menu had loads of cool Thai dishes. Missing were silver threads but maybe I just missed them. Regarding food, it is probably best I start with the positive items. Coconut milk soup with chicken was pretty darn good. Fresh spring rolls and steamed tofu with peanut sauce also very tasty. The fried rice was great and pad thai noodle satisfactory. They were unfortunately out of the slipper lobster so we ordered the regular lobster curry. Unfortunately disappointing as the lobster did not taste fresh and was just a little tough and dry. ( you say lobster?!? yes, unfortunately do). And the other loser was the Mahi Mahi in black bean sauce. Again the fish didn't taste fresh and was barely edible. Oh well. it happens. Seafood in a restaurant must be served fresh or it isn't worth ordering/eating. So there you have it. My major disappointment was these latter two topshelf seafood items that just didn't cut it. What are you gonna do?
(2)Robin R.
We go to Saengs regularly. The server is welcoming and friendly and the food is reliably good. Saengs is a treasure and away from the pretentious tourist scene. It's a favorite of locals and we know why. The garden setting is relaxing and well maintained. We always get fresh spring rolls and go on from there. It's a great place for a larger group as well since you get to share a variety of dishes.
(4)Jim P.
Food ok Svc not so good Pad Thai pretty bland Curry pretty good Prices notbad Worth a try for somone else, I've had enough I've been eating here for several years so it's not like we haven't tried
(2)ariela r.
I went here twice on my week trip to Maui and it was so good the first time that I got the same thing the second time. As a vegan they have 14 vegetarian options..the dish I got was Pad Ped Tofu..the waiter told me that dish comes with oyster sauce but they can switch it to sesame oil and it tastes just as good so i did that. It came with broccoli, tofu, bamboo shoots, red pepper and carrots, it was so good and flavorful. The portions are also large. Really this place is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to. My friend got the Evil Prince Tofu and that was good as well. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating.

I live and work in Kihei teaching oceanfront yoga classes, but I think the drive to Saeng's is worth it, especially if you are in the area already! I have had their Tom Yum soup (with shrimp) and their Pad Thai so far and both are delicious! I liked it so much that next time I just ordered the same dishes. I recommend at least medium spicy (although for at least the soup I do hot/spicy). I am looking forward to trying other ones as well! Very friendly service too. Thank you :)
(4)John T.
It's alright. Not really that impressed. And I love Thai food. Wanted to love this place too after reading many positive reviews.
(2)Pinky And The B.
They have six pages on their menu here! I chose this restaurant because I only chose restaurants who would fax me their menu ahead of time in NY so we could pick entrees. I have several food allergies and for Hawaii it is important since they are all foods popular in Hawaii. I made them aware of my food allergies when ordering. Now you know why I am a tough critic for Thai, Sushi and Chinese since I have eaten in Hawaii and Hong Kong and the flavors are more authentic and most restaurants are cleaner than here. Though not all. We were not able to take pictures as our camera ran out of batteries. This neighborhood is not a tourist neighborhood. This is where the locals live and as a result the food is cheap and awesome! You can ask for your food to be made to your taste preference hot, medium, or mild. I had Evil Prince Chicken (cooked in coconut sauce with Thai herbs), my husband had red-curry shrimp; and we both had bubble tea. Beautiful Asian artifacts, flowers, and a waterfall decorate the dining room, and tables on a veranda satisfy lovers of the outdoors. I am a proud New Yorker and thought we had the best of everything until I started to travel. It is both a blessing and curse because now I have to compare what I eat here to what I had on Maui, Oahu and in Hong Kong! Nothing here in NYC even comes close!
(4)Tanny Y.
Wow, this place is pretty darn cute and big might. The outside dinning was incredible. There were tons of Thai art hanging on the wall. Beautiful sunlight, what more can you ask for? Of course for the food to be delicious! It wasn't up to par in fact it wasn't even mediocre. It was below that. The service here was friendly, but we literally had to wait for 10 minutes to be acknowledge. I ordered the chicken curry, since everyone is raving about it, my other two girlfriends ordered pad Thai with chicken and the the other dish was papaya salad. OK... my curry was really watered down. You get a hint of curry, but it wasn't thick as it normally is supposed to be. However, I do like the green peas that was in it. That was new. The pad Thai was bearable, but there was literally nothing to rave about it. It was a bore. Now the worse had to be the papaya salad which was lacking flavor and spice. Hmm.. I don't know what spicy mean to everyone else, but when I say spicy I mean it. I can't tell you how much I explained it to our waitress, while I was ordering that I want it super spicy to the point where I would start to cry, but nope that didn't happen... instead I felt like they didn't even put any chili in it at all. Hmm... our server was nice, but the food... was not good at all. We walked out paying $43 for 3 plates that was not even yummy. )= I sad....

Great Thai food. Nicest ambience. My Favorite.

we had a great lunch in thier beautiful garden. It's nive and airy with good breezes flowing through to keep you cool. we had the evil jungle prince chicken and the basil tofu, both wee yummy. would definately go again.
(4)Nancy W.
We had lunch here just tom yam and green papaya salad but it was real Thai flavors, properly spiced too. The soup was really good! I will definitely go again.

The Maui Revealed book guided us here on our first night and it was the best meal we've had in Maui! The resturant looks a little rundown from the outside but the beauty is in the inside. Half of the resturant is a partial outdoor setting that is AMAZING with a great natural breeze. We watched the moon as we ate. We ordered the thai tea and iced thai coffee drinks and both were top notch! We both ordered one of the tofu dishes. The flavors in these two dishes were out of this world. I wanted to lick the bowl when i was done. My only complaint was it was not at all spicy so maybe ask for extra spice if that's how you like it. Meal prices were good $9-14 and sizes were good also. Definately a must try!

Where do I begin with this review? If I could give it 0 stars, I would. One of my friends raved about this place so my husband and I decided to give it a try. We walked in tonight at about 7 pm (this is a Saturday) and there was just one couple in there (you would think there would be more people on a Sat night if it was so good). The girl that greeted us was extremely nice. She asked us where we wanted to sit and we chose a table. Within seconds of sitting down, I noticed ants crawling all over the table. We got up and I told the nice girl that we couldn't sit there because of the ant problem. She then took us to a table outside. The restaurant is very dark and it's difficult to see anything. The restaurant is really old and looks really creepy. There were bugs flying all over the place out there as well. I ordered sweet and sour shrimp with sticky rice and my husband ordered pad thai. The pad thai honestly tasted like an instant thai noodle dish I have purchased from Longs before for $0.99 and the dish was ridiculously small. The sweet and sour shrimp dish was almost $13 and had 5 shrimp in it that were not fully cooked. The rest of that dish was vegetables and a lot of tomatoes. Again, this dish was ridiculously small. This is by far the worst meal I have ever had at a restaurant and I will not be going again. Here in Hawaii, we don't usually complain about things at restaurants, but we definately spread the word to all of our friends and family.

This is the restaurant that taught me to love Thai Food. Many years ago we lived on Maui and this was one of our absolute favorite restaurants to go to. We loved the Mi Krop, Coconut Chicken Soup (Thom Ka), Pineapple Shrimp Curry (red curry!). We are going to be visiting Maui again soon and you can bet that you will find us here at least a couple times during our visit. It is tucked away in a quiet street away from the busy part of Old Wailuku. The atmosphere is quiet and classy, but we used to like to bring our well-behaved children here because they were mesmerized by the little koi pond near the dining area while they waited for the food to arrive. Now those little kids are all grown up and we still love to come here. Yes, if it is mosquito season then be warned, this is an open air restaurant, but I don't remember getting attacked to bad and we were there often. I always found it beautiful and pleasant, a nice escape from real life that was very much in keeping with experiences one SHOULD have while visiting a tropical island. I want to say this is a good place for children, but only if they are well-behaved... if you have rude, obnoxious, loud, cranky, whiny kids please don't bring them here, you will ruin the atmosphere for everyone else. This is a classy, nice, intimate & mature restaurant.
(5)Jennifer B.
If there was a 6th star they would get it. I had the best meal of my life there - the red prawn pineapple curry. AMAZING. It's not near any touristy places, so there's not a wait. The prices are good, as was the wine list. The building is open in the back, it's missing the fourth wall, which opens into a pretty little garden. This place was so good my husband and I ate there twice during our visit.
