As we approached the building we were unsure if it was open or closed. Lights were off but they were open, goody! We entered and there was a man on his laptop who jumped up and seated us in the back. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant (clue #1) Dark and gloomy, lights were off inside the place. (Clue #2) read the reviews! I was so excited to step away from Vietnamese food Jennifer's Saigon Cafe which seems to be catered towards tourists.. I was really looking forward to authentic pho (beef noodle soup) BOY was I disappointed!! $11 for a bowl smaller than the one you get from Ba-Le! I ordered the combination anxiously awaiting the steak rounds, tendon, and meatballs.. Failed again! (Clue #3) The meatballs were cut into tiny pieces to make it appear like you had more. We didn't have a single piece of tendon either.. After I gave the terribly bland broth a taste I added a ton of hoisin and siracha, and anything I possibly could to make it better. The noodles, oh my lord the noodles! You never, ever, serve day old or harden rice noodles in pho!!! As I gave my bowl a stir, the noodles were hard and clumpy breaking into small pieces.. Just like my heart, broken into pieces because I felt so let down for my first and last experience at this place. My wife didn't even eat half of her pho because it was that bad. If you want pho, good authentic Vietnamese pho, stick to Ba-Le at Maui Marketplace food court! I don't come on here to write badly of restaurants, I write so they can hear their customers and improve.

They were really busy (New Years Eve) with only one person both bussing and waiting. Food still came out within a reasonable amount of time, although didn't see much service and waiter was very rushed for obvious reasons. I ordered the vegetarian tofu curry plate, and it wasn't anything special, neither with texture nor flavor. Bit of a letdown given the fact that this place is associated with Saigon Cafe, which is probably one of the best restaurants in Maui, to which anyone reading this review should go spend their money instead of this place.

I ordered the pho combination..First off the noodles were undercooked and clumped together. I asked the waiter for the chili oil sauce and he brought a dab of it on a small dish. The taste wasn't that great..Really watery broth and my combination didn't have any tendon although the menu said it has it. Honestly I don't think I'll be back.

I actually really enjoyed this place! I went here when I last visited Maui. My relatives and i had planned to meet up for dinner and they suggested this place. It was a little hard to find because it ended up being sort of hidden in a business park. When i got there it wasn't very busy. Only a few people eating in the restaurant. My family had ordered ahead of time so everything came in just a few minutes of arrival. All of the food was very delicious and fresh. I enjoyed the spring rolls, crispy shrimp and seafood noodle dish (not sure the name) the most. There portions are decent sized so its easy to share a a couple dishes with a few people. The prices are pretty standard for food in Maui also. Next time i visit ill definitely come back here!

This place is a decent vietnamese place in Wailuku industrial. Next to the infamous Sam Sato's dry mien restaurant. The low-down: Food-- Can't be too picky when it comes to finding vegetarian options, but they have about 10-15 veggie items to choose from (recalling from memory, so apologies for the baseline prices and items) : *Appetizers (about $5.95+) Tofu summer rolls, deep fried been curd, green papaya salad with tofu, stuffed tofu. *Entrees (about $10.95+): Crispy egg noodles with veggies (onions, tofu, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, haricot vert.) Chow fun/mein stir fry, claypot with tofu and veggies. For all you meat eaters, they have pho, meat entrees, and the liking. Sorry I'm not able to comment on those... But, The bf and I like the green papaya salad. Pretty standard. We also tried the summer rolls--standard as well, though not much tofu inside. And as the entree we had the crispy egg noodles: not enough sauce (very light and looked as if there was a lot of cornstarch used to thicken) for the crispy noodles. Decent size for its $11.95 price. Spent about $27.xx Decor/Cleanliness-- *No real "theme" just a lot of trinkets. There is a karaoke machine, so from that, you can assume what else the restaurant looks like. Bathrooms are kinda grimy and look sticky. I'm not sure why the light switch is so dirty..... and sometimes the window sill has some onlookers, if you know what I mean. Service-- *I gauge service by my (or the bf's) water cup and jury says they're usually on-par and are always friendly in doing so. Another plus is that they now take the iDcard: 15% off 2-7 p.m.

For an Asian place in Maui, industrial district for that matter, it was pretty yummy. There's lots of parking since everythingis closedsind there. I do agree with other yelpers about the cleanliness of the place, or lack there of. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as we walked in with a party of 12 no reservations and they sat us right away. We had steamed opakapaka, a special of the day and highly suggested. It was pretty well done and nicely decorated with lots of broccoli. House noodle, flat noodle, was good with tons of veggies, chicken and shrimp. Fried shrimp with Chili and garlic. That was yummy & memorable. You gotta like garlic. We had the bbq chicken as well with the picked veggies. And lastly was the crispy whole chicken. The shoyu sauce that came with it was delish. We were all stuffed to the brim & happy but with so much leftover. We had leftovers for dinner the next night. I'd suggest it to anyone looking for Good Asian food.

I ordered the beef and vegetable over rice and the beef was really tough, sauce was too salty and way too many onions and I'm an onion lover! My mom ordered the pho and it made her miss the Pho we can get in the Bay Area. There was one server at 1:30 PM and only one other table. Service was slow, we were ready to leave and waited for a box for my leftovers .. waited.. waited... I ended up going to get the box. Nothing against our waiter, he did the best he could but not sure why he was so busy.

I usually go to Saigon cafe, but they were packed so we tried this place. The clay pot had frozen veggies and dried out chicken. The soup had the same dried out chicken and had pineapple in it. Service was slow. Won't be back.

Shhhh! This is the local's secret spot on where you can find food similar to Saigon Cafe in Wailuku but don't want to be amongst the tourist and crowds. LOCATION: In the Millyard on Wili Pa Loop, two doors west of Sam Sato's. ATMOSPHERE: You don't come here for the ambiance. It's all about the food. Seating styles are booths and tables that can accommodate very large parties. The restaurant is clean and the decor is simple. There's a small stage for karaoke nights. MENU: Vietnamese everything. FOOD: Crispy Shrimp - Highly recommended dish. You can get it done with the shell on or without, I prefer the latter. The savory flavor is amazing. Comes with about 10 good sized pieces over a bed of lettuce and topped with sautéed white & green onions. Clay Pot - Chicken, frozen peas & carrots, and mushrooms in a savory sauce over jasmine rice in a searing clay pot. Mix it all up as soon as it comes to your table. The crunchy rice at the bottom is to die for. Another highly recommended dish and something they're well known for. Noodle Soup Special - I opted for egg noodles which are very thin. The broth is super clean, a tad sweet but more savory. There's a bunch of rubbery calamari and two fresh shrimps mixed in, and topped with a garlic paste and way too much green onions. Bean sprouts come on the side. The perfect dish for a hangover or if you're feeling under the weather. For me, it was just for lunch because I'm a noodle fanatic! The portion size is just a tad smaller than what I'd like as I was still a bit hungry after. RESERVATIONS: Aside from major events like Mother's or Father's Day, they're not needed. SERVICE: Very friendly and food service is quick. I once organized an office dinner and they had no problems splitting the check 10 ways. OVERALL: Great food, chill vibe and no tourists! Shhhh!

The only reason this restaurant is getting 2 stars is because 4 out of the 6 dishes we ordered were tasty. Everything else about this restaurant is horrible! Service deserves 0 stars as there was 1 waiter for the entire restaurant besides the cook/owner! We had a party of 10 plus 2 small children. The waiter was very rude when we asked for things and didn't check on us once without being flagged down! On top of this they overcharged us by $100 which I did not find out until the next day as my husband paid the bill and did not look at the detailed receipt. We are a local Maui family and will never be back there to eat and I will make sure to tell everyone we know! Do not give them your business there are better places to eat on Maui where they are happy to have your business and don't make you feel like a nuisance!

I was really excited to try this restaurant with my cousins and family. The restaurant is based in Vietnamese food, but also offers Chinese food. First let me start off with saying that the service was really nice here. The manager/owner was very friendly. We ordered several dishes for our dinner. To start, we ordered the deep fried calamari. These were nice chunks of calamari and dipping sauce was some kind of fish sauce shoyu. The calamari was tender and crunchy. Grade: B+ Beef with garlic and egg was a nice addition to the meal. Slices of braised beef tossed with veggies. Beef was tender. Grade: B+ Fresh whole opakapaka (tai fish). Made in a Chinese style with steamed fish topped with shoyu and green onions. Traditional, tasty. Grade: B+ Chicken Salad: Your typical cheap chicken salad made with cut cabbage and add chicken bits. Made with a fish sauce vinegarette. Unmemorable. Grade: C- Cripsy Shrimp: A Vietnamese twist to shrimp tempura. The batter was tough and the shrimp was overcooked and hard. Not a favorite. Grade: C- Crispy Noodles: Deep fried noodles topped with a vegetable medly and meats (chicken, shrimp, pork etc). As anticipated for a Westernized restaurant. Grade: C- I wished that I would have liked the food a lot more, as there were many families eating here. One other table complained about their food and another table complained that their credit card payment system was not working. Food Grade: C Service Grade: B+ Worth the Money Grade: C Overall Impression: B-

Was going to eat at Saigon Cafe but they were booked by a private event, so i thought i would try another viet restaurant. This is probably the worst Vietnamese restaurants I've ever had. The restaurant itself is dirty, you can see the left over crumbs (collected over the years) on the side of the booth. It was pretty nasty. Before i talked about their food, i have to comment on their water. I would recommend to order a soda in a can or get a drink somewhere after you eat because I can taste bleach or some sort of chemical from the water. So I ordered a coke thinking it would be safe but no...there you the weird taste again..,so I think they use the same kind of water to make the ice that's y! Onto the food, I ordered the pork chop rice dish, my dad ordered the dried rice noodles w spring rolls and beef and my mom ordered a classic Pho. None of us were satisfied with the food. The Pho broth doesn't have beef taste, the pork chop have no taste, the fish sauce was so light that it tasted like water...well without the chemical taste. Service was super slow too... Definitely won't be back!!

A'ight. The location. Somewhat difficult to find. Gotta know your way around the Wailuku maze if you don't live there--which I don't obviously lol. The food. It's good. Someone back there seems to know what their doing. The price. Kinda not really bad. I already assumed things were gotta start off around 1O bucks; & I was right. The decor. Pretty bad. Very very very plain Jane. Actually, plainer than Jane. Someone needs to call up Gordon Ramsay to jazz this place up, brah. Then again, we're not there to stare at elegant Victorian wallpaper & 1,OOO year old sculpture of a naked man. But still, a legit restaurant deserves legit makeover. We came here with my friend & her hub-bub to grab some Viet grub. They come here all the time so it must be pretty good. We ordered hot and sour chicken & shrimp soup. My friend told me it was on the sweeter side. There were basil, beansprouts, pineapple , celery. We asked for some chili peppers to spice it up; & it did! So hot, yet so good! They ordered the hot and sour catfish soup & crispy chicken. The chicken was pretty yummers. skin was oh so crispy and The meat was juicy. It came with a tasty tempura -like dipping sauce. The meal came out to be $50, sooo a tad cha chingy. The waiters definitely reminded me of the ones back in LA.. Not very attentive. Eat, pay, gtfo. Lol. Give this place a shot if you're craving Asian food of the south..just try Not to get lost in Wailuku! P.s. There is a fish tank with 2 big pissed off fishes.. So If you're bored, watch them fight. Or, there's a deck of cards In the restaurant somewhere, we played Speed while waiting for Our food haha.

There are two items on the menu that keeps me coming back to this place. First, their Burrito Wrap!!! Mmmmmhhhmmm, so ono! It goes so well with that spicy vietnamese sauce they have! Second, the shrimp tempura sauteed in ginger and onion (order it w/ no shell). It's sooo tasty! The combination of the ginger, onion and shrimp dipped in that spicy sauce, oh my gosh! I loooove asian food! But other than that, it's pretty much like any other vietnamese resto out there.

I have been going to this place for years! This place, in my humble opinion, has much better food than Saigon Cafe. The prices are more reasonable and the restaurant is roomier. I can't rave enough about the crispy baked chicken!!! This is my all time favorite chicken from anywhere!!! The dipping sauce that comes with it is so delicious, I got my entire family hooked on this dish! I just wish the owner would share his recipe with me...! The other thing I always order is a noodle dish not on the menu. It's a soft noodle dish with beef and vegetable, but unfortunately, there's no name for it. The crispy spring rolls are some of the best I've ever had and the steak bites are delicious as well. This place is a great place to have parties also. Just call the owner, Jason, and he can create a menu for your party based on price per person. I haven't had anything bad at this place, and like I said, I've been going there for years!!! I've tried the other Vietnamese places in town, including Lahaina and Kihei, and this place is hands down, my favorite. Wish I could eat there every night, because I would!!! Try it, especially the chicken.

let me first say that vietnamese food on maui is not cheap compared to the mainland. I usually get pho beef or chicken and the fried chicken. Out of all the vietnamese resturants on maui this one is my favorite

Flat rice noodle with seafood at $11.95 is a bit of a steep price to pay and it's not a giant portion but it is one of my favorite dishes. They make a great gravy here. I have not yet found anywhere else that makes it like they do, and the flat rice noodle size is difficult to find. It's thinner than the Thai flat noodle but it's not vermicelli. Pho came with yellow onion instead of scallion and flat rice noodle instead of vermicelli noodle. Pho was close to $10. Service is okay and food comes out quickly. There is an area for karaoke as part of the restaurant but I have not yet seen it used, maybe it's for private parties. This restaurant is open later than other restaurants in this part of Maui.

This place deserves zero stars. The clay pot we received had dried up chicken and the vegetables felt like it was from the frozen section at the supermarket. The rice was soggy and mushy. The pho we ordered had no flavor and the noodles was overcooked. The meat in the soup was also not very fresh. AVOID AND DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Food was not good at all when I was there for dinner. Not sure if I had ordered the wrong things but nothing tasted right. I had gone for lunch once and that was ok. Not sure if I would go back there again.

Three dishes that were very good here - Calamari appetizer, crispy noodles, and tofu in the clay pot. Also, the thai coffee was really good and with free refills!

After driving to Wailuku from the Maui Ocean Center our group was super hungry. Unfortunately it was a Sunday and Sam Sato's was closed, so we decided to look down the street and found Asian Star. We were starving and kind of desperate so we chose to eat here. As soon as we entered the owner came to greet us, he was very nice and sat us right away (but it was also because this place was absolutely empty, except for a large party with a buffet going on). We ordered and our food quickly came out. Our group ordered the fried spring rolls and the rare beef pho. The spring rolls were actually very good, I was surprised that I liked them because usually I do not. The pho was a different story. I LOVE pho, well the right pho. There was something about this pho that I did not like. The broth had a weird taste and the noodles were too thick for me. Also flying around the restaurant were huge flies that would not leave our table. It was kind of gross. I probably would not come back here just because I have experienced and had much better.
