I tried to post a review earlier but it didnt go through so here I go again. I went here on August 5th for my dads birthday. It was all our first time going there. Service was realllllllly slow! When we arrived there were only 2 tables so I really dont understand why it took us so long to get our food. My dad, brother, and husband all ordered the same thing. They ordered the rib eye steak. I ordered shrimp scampi and my mom ordered lasagna. We also ordered 2 stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. We waited at least 35 minutes, maybe even 40 minutes for the two appetizers. What I dont understand is why they gave us our entrees at all different times. My mom got her entree the same time as the appetizers. She probably waited around 25 minutes more to eat it because she wanted to wait till we got our food. Then my dad, brother, and husband got their foods about 20 minutes later. I was the only person at the table without a meal for at least another 10 minutes. I've never been to a resturant where they gave people their foods all at different times. Isnt the normal thing to do is to give everyone their food at the same time so they can eat together? Also, not once did our waitress come and offer to give us refills on our drinks. Before we even got our appetizers most of our drinks were getting less than half of the cup because we had to wait so long to get our food. I figured she would see our drinks when she delivered our food and refill it but she never did offer and our drinks were basically almost empty at that point. I had to call her to refill them. Just poor service at its finest. Now comes the food part. I asked the guys how their steaks were. They all said it was just okay. My scampi was just okay. I feel like they could have added some salt or something. It was kind of bland. I dont know if thats how it normally tastes but the tomato sauce in the stuffed mushrooms and in my moms lasagna was sour. I definitely did not like it and neither did my mom. She didnt even eat half of her lasagna. After this experience, Im not coming back. The food was just okay and the service was pretty terrible.

We were so looking forward to eating here since Coquito's is so delicious and they have the same owner. However, we were underwhelmed and very disappointed. This place has a very unpleasant smell when you walk in which no amount of bright decor can make up for. As for food... 1) The Sicilian salad was just sad. A lot of spinach and not much else. Skip it. 2) Antipasto platter is advertised as having olives which is what made my husband order it. There were only four. Also had huge seeded grapes which were a hassle to eat. Some chunks of cheese, crostini and prosciutto. A "salad" was slapped in the middle which was just some spring mix with half a strawberry. Presentation was seriously lacking especially with the cheese. They were odd, misshapen chunks. Also, this was a $17 appetizer. Overpriced! 3) Spaghetti with stuffed meatballs was overcooked. Meatballs were dry and bland and noodles were not al dente, not even close. Overpriced. 4) Shrimp scampi was bland and also overcooked. What's with the too soft noodles?! Overpriced. 5) Garlic bread was just some toasted and buttered bread. Didn't detect any garlic. We initially wanted to order a calzone, but were told no calzones or pizzas because a big order had come in. What kind of restaurant eliminates HALF their menu from paying present patrons because they get a large order from someone else? Get some more staff if that is the problem. It's simply ridiculous to be told half your menu is off the table because of that. Plus sides? Service was good. We received water promptly as well as refills without having to ask. Table was cleared in a timely manner. Other patrons ordered delicious looking panini sandwiches. We will try one more time for those, but two out of their three (really, only three pasta dishes at an Italian restaurant?) were lousy and way overpriced.

Small local restaurant with varied menu. Nice decor, pleasant background music, attentive service, AND my Portobello Pannino accompanied by a green salad was very good.

It was so so I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The meat balls were overcooked and the portion was small and the clams could of used more seasoning. As for the service it was also ok could be a little more happier to be there.

Squisito! Molto Buono! Absolutely Amazing! I had the Broccoli and Cheese soup! Very rich, hearty and SAVORY! Then I moved on to the Insalati Caprese! (Pictured) It was great! The Mozzarella was soft, as it should be, and the tomatoes were a perfectly Roma, neither the Basil or Balsamic overpowered the salad, it was worth every penny! After the salad, I had to try the Calzone, after watching my nana make her own dough for years, I knew "the dough" is a true measure of a Ristorante Italiano, after trying the 3-Meat Calzone (pictured), with real pepperoni, italian sausage and bacon, I nearly died! Simply Amazing! If you are on O'ahu, and don't make time for this place, you are really missing out. Make the drive to Waianae for lunch or mid-evening after traffic! You will not regret it! Let's talk about service! It was exemplary, Nicole and D'Asia were very pleasant, informative and prompt. They always had their smiles on, which makes you feel welcomed, and really adds to the already existent beautiful ambience. There is outside seating for nice evenings and it even has a nice breeze. No alcohol is served here, but I'd suggest bringing your favorite Chianti/Sangiovese. The restaurant is B.Y.O.B. so dont be afraid to tote your own. The Tiramisu, is a MUST TRY! Negatives? Wait time was a little longer than average, but thats to be expected when food is made to order and FRESH! So, I guess really not a negative at all. I could not find a fault in this place, its food or service. It's Hawaii's Best Kept Secret! Please do yourself a huge service, and EAT HERE OFTEN!

The service and food was amazing.. it's a hidden gem in Waianae. We needed options out here in he west side so it's a great addition. We started with stuff mushroom good size moist and tasty. I had the shrimp scampi it was creamy like Alfredo My boyfriend had the Lasagna..Yum it was cheesy goodness Ending the night with the tiramisu It's different from what I'm use to just one layer of the ladyfinger and mascarpone topping.. the lady finger was soaked in coffee which made the cake mushy I didn't care for the texture but it was still flavorful..all the food ended up paying $50 I think I was worth it.. I'll be coming back soon

The food was deeeelicious and the waiter was super friendly and on it. He engaged my 4 year old in conversation which is always a plus. It has a cute interior and exterior patio. Our food was faster than average and prices are decent. My only complaint is that the inside smelled like a stinky bathroom. I opted to sit outside even though I wanted to sit inside because the smell was so overpowering. I don't know how the others were eating with the "someone recently pooped" smell wafting through the inside. Solution? Ventilation or exhaust going outside? Would have been 4 stars if not for the smell

First time here. Me n the bf wanted to eat pizza so we checked this place out. Nice inside. Cute outdoor seating. Nice friendly service upon arrival and throughout our meal. We ordered a bruschetta for our appetizer. It was good. Then, we had a Milanese pizza and a shrimp scampi. The pizza was delicious. Nice thin crust and the sauce was Ono. The shrimp scampi was also Ono. Nice size portion. Our bill was just under $40. Ono food. Fair prices. Nice service. Will definitely return.... With a bottle of wine next time.

So we just left Valentina's and let me tell you.... That place was AMAZING!! It's so nice to have another restaurant in Waianae let alone my favorite cuisine type restaurant. The servers were so nice and welcoming, we even got to meet lil Valentina herself. (She stayed outside with us the whole time. We didn't mind her being there but I dont know if other people will) Seating: they have in door and outdoor seating (we sat outside) which we prob will not do again, it was VERY LOUD. I mean Farrington is right there, but with construction going on its 10x more load (even scary at times) it was fun for our daughter though, they have a very nice lil setting out there with a little garden and water feature. Ok so what did we have to eat Appetizer: we ordered the garlic clams, it was a tad bit too salty, but it wasn't too much that I wasn't able to eat it. It was a lil pricy $14 so I prob won't order again. I had the chicken sun dried tomato panini. It came with a side salad and it was very delicious, I loved the bacon in it.. Very nice flavor Daughter had the cheese pizza, it looked good and tasted good too. She didn't speak the whole time while eating it, and she's usually very talkative (so that says something) her meal came with a drink and a scoop of ice cream. Husband had shrimp scampi: He really loved it, I tasted it and it was good. It comes with two pieces of I believe bruschetta Overall will we eat here again?? YES YES YES!! I want to try everything on the menu.

OMG!!! I can't believe I missed the first day of opening for the new restaurant in Waianae. After work I had stopped by the restaurant to find out the hours of operation. The owner informed me that dinner time it gets really busy and it is probably best to come during the lunch hours. I've already had 4 visits to the restaurant since getting that tip from the owner. First visit -- I had ordered my lunch to go (heading to work). I had ordered the Shrimp Scampi Linguine which comes with two slices of garlic bread. The entree was very delicious. It had the right amount of shrimp and a good portion of linguine noodles. I admit I had ate half of my meal before I started work and the other half for dinner. Second visit -- Just as I arrived at the restaurant the owner informed me that there was trouble with the gas line and it will take about 20-30 minutes. "No problem I report to work at 1:30pm and I still have about an hour to kill," was my reply. On this visit I decided to enjoy my lunch inside the building and I ordered the Valentina's Stuffed Meatballs with Spaghetti with two slices of garlic bread. Once my entree arrived I noticed there were three good size meatballs. I immediately cut the meatballs in half looking to see what it was stuffed with....to my disappointment one meatball had no stuffing at all and the other two had little cheese. Suggestion -- make smaller stuffed meatballs or stuff more cheese into the big meatballs. The entree had the right amount of spaghetti and the sauce was delicious. Just need to improve on the meatballs. I also ordered Italian Cream Cake for dessert. The cake reminded me of eating carrot cake with frosting. The cake wasn't moist as I thought it should be....it was more on the dry side. Third visit -- Easter Sunday I had lunch with two other people (J2 and Doug) and we dined in the outside seating area. This visit I had opted to order an appetizer before the main course. Garlic steamed clams with 2 piece of garlic bread. Doug had ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. J2 ordered the Caesar Salad and Doug ordered the Caprese Salad. Once the garlic steamed clams arrived I had offered to both J2 and Doug. They each took one piece of clam. J2 mentioned "these clams are bigger than the ones I had the other night." I started eating the clams...it was so delicious i was tempted to order another round of clams or just wait for another day. J2 and I also ordered pizza. I had the small Margarita 12" pizza which was absolutely delicious. J2 ordered the small Sicilian 12" pizza (I'll try that the next time I have a pizza craving) and she says "I love this pizza crust." Fourth visit -- After working a morning shift I decided to come back to the restaurant for a late lunch. I ordered the Garlic Steamed Clams for an appetizer...YES IT WAS THAT DELICIOUS!! I also ordered the small Milanese 12" pizza. Once my pizza came I took a bite out of it and I'm thinking "Is this wheat crust? That's a first for me." As I continue to eat my pizza...I'm thinking "I wish there were some olives on here." The owner had asked me about the pizza and I told her that I wish i could have had olives on top of the pizza. She then tells me "You can add anything you like on your pizza." I told her maybe you should have a CREATE YOUR OWN pizza option. She says "We have it. All toppings can be added on to a Cheese pizza and depending on the topping it will cost 75cents to $1.00." That's good to know....I'll do that after I tried all other pizzas. NOTE: It's been about a week since Valentina's Ristorante has been opened for the public. They are still in the "soft opening stages" so you could expect food to be not quite what you expected. There's always room for improvement when it comes to a dish not to your liking. The owner is open up for suggestions on how to improve an entree. The date for the GRAND OPENING will be determined once the actual menu has been finalized. As for the current menu...some items would stay, other items would be eliminated, and other dishes may be added.

When we walked in we were greeted but then notified that there oven and grill was not working at the time because of a problem with the fuel. So we were offered to order a salad n an appetizer while we wait til they got it fixed, which was about 20 mins. We first ordered a spinach salad it was really dry n plain. The sauce was distasteful. We also ordered the bruschetta. It really was brushetta chips instead of the usual Italian bread you would get. So off to a rough start. Asked the waiter if the stove was back on and it was so We got the Shrimp scampi and the Ribeye Steak. The ribeye steak came out overcooked when we asked for med rare. We told our waiter and she had it done for us again. The shrimp scampi was the best dish though. It came with a good amount of shrimp n pasta. Overall not a good first impression of this new restaurant. The portions seem okay, wish we could have more for our money. The Waitress was very attentive and nice. Maybe we'll try here on their better days.

Loved our meals! So glad that we have another spot to eat in Waianae! The Cheesy bread & Garlic bread were yummy, the Tomatoe bisque was great, and the Milanese Pizza was delicious! We finished our meal with Tiramisu, which was delightful. We sat outside in their adorable patio area. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. Our food came out timely, even though they were busy. We even got to meet little miss Valentina herself! (and her My Little Pony!) We will definitely be back, and will be ordering from their To-Go-Menu too!

It was stink in there!! My husband said it was a cross between a beach park bathroom and a litter box. The food was tastless and over cooked. The apps were skimpy, the spaghetti was bland lacked enough sauce to coat the noodles and meatballs were overcooked and dry. The scampi was bland a lacked sauce. The only good thing was the waitress and nice and very attentive. Long story short we won't eat here again. Mostly because of the smell. I'm Italian and was raised in a family that shows pride in there cooking. If the owner of this place is Italian (which I doubt it) I would be ashamed if I were them.

  • Laurie L.

They've done nice job renovating the place but it still has a funky smell inside. The food was nothing special and overpriced. ($12 for a plate of six stuffed mushrooms!) The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is the service was friendly and very good. Hopefully they will improve the variety on the menu -- eggplant parm would be great for the vegetarians!

My husband & I so enjoyed Valentina's tonight! Beautiful evening, great food. Corn chowder was clearly homemade - very tasty, light broth full of fresh corn & potato. Ribeye and oven roasted potatoes with red peppers were cooked perfectly, both with wonderfully flavorful seasoning. Fresh green beans had healthy crunch. Margarita pizza was delicious with homemade tasting sauce, perfect crust, fresh tomatoes, red onion, and fresh basil. It's a fabulous place we wish we'd found at the start of our Oahu visit!

The food is reasonably priced and also reasonably tasty. The service was great and staff were friendly. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and even features an outdoor patio. Overall a lovely establishment. You can tell the owner has a passion and vision for this little gem on the West side.

As there are very few good eating establishments in rural Waianae, Oahu, Hawaii, we were pleased when this restaurant opened. We tried it last night, and we very favorably impressed. They have no liquor license, but we brought our own bottle of wine. My husband ordered the Caesar Salad. Loved it! Fresh, tasty! And also the shrimp scampi. Pasta cooked perfectly, sauce light with good cheese (but not too much) and well-cooked shrimp. I had the Sicilian Spinach salad. Outstanding! Very fresh spinach, the marinated roasted bacon bits wonderful, and the dressing a mild vinaigrette. The steamed clams were fresh, and also outstanding. Presentation of food was good, and the servings sizes just right. Service was good. We will go back to try more dishes. (We also like the music, and didn't not think it too loud. Was good opera!) Only drawback, which I mentioned to owner, was the odor from the bathroom which is located directly behind the reception area. She said they were working on it. I suggested they keep the door closed. Just don't be put off by this, as this restaurant has potential, a great chef, and is much needed in Waianae. We sat against the far wall and could detect no unpleasant odor there. There is also outside seating.

Loved our meals here! Had the lasagna and the shrimp linguine. The shrimp linguine had a perfect amount of sauce on it, one of my favorite shrimp linguine ever! The salads were also very good. Enjoyed our outdoor seating and will definitely be back!

Not impressed. Plumbing problems from old tenants still exist. Very stink inside. Hot outside which looks cute only to get bit by mosquitos. Food not to our liking and over priced. How can you share an antipasto platter with 6 people when there aren't even six pieces of anything except grapes. Maybe it is Italian to put mashed potatoes in soup... Didn't care for it. Won't go back

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
