Excellent food, amazing prices! This place is THE place to go for fantastic sushi! A nice variety of rolls & nigiri. Nothing costs more than $10 and most of it is between $2-$5. Ordered 6 different items, and was expecting to be waiting awhile as they are all made to order right then, but it was done in less than 10 minutes! Great portion sizes, optimal rice-to-fish ratio. So good. Go here, you won't regret it!!

Had the deluxe Bento, they make items to order! Was skeptical about sushi in waianae but the bento was fresh ! Looking forward to returning and trying some hand rolls. Great for to go as the place has a only a few seats and zero ambience. Cash only!

We were craving sushi for not a lot money and this place was perfect good value and very tasty!

Great prices and awesome quality. I was rather impressed with this place, the rolls were rolled perfectly. I bit slower but it's what you get for quality.

I love SUN Sushi. When I open those little plastic boxes wrapped with rubber bands and get hit with that whiff of seasoned rice, nori and fresh veggies, I nearly pass out! The presentation is so beautiful and they take such great care in making the most perfect rolls. The husband and wife team never really answer any of my questions with more than a grunt (which I never know if it means Yes or No) but they smile and are kind so I cannot complain. It is worth the short wait. Plus you cannot beat the prices, it must be the cheapest, best deal on this island. Truly a Mom & Pop shop that I love supporting.

Didn't know what to expect, but was ready due to the reviews I read! After studying the menu I asked the man if he had any suggestions for shrimp tempura! He recommended the hand roll where he could have easily suggested other shrimp sushi which was almost 3,times more! I commend him for not doing that!! I ordered 2 hand rolls ( a lot are on special for 99 cents) and the California a Roll and the spicy ahi rolls! All good sizes and the freshness is impeccable! To me the flavor is in the sushi rice and this rice is the bomb! After bring it home the Nori was fresh and crunchy, flavor spot on and generous size! I love the different & extensive menu! Owners very nice & I just pointed out what I wanted! Everything is made to order! Not too long of wait & certainly worth It!

The place is very good for a cheap and fast sushi joint. Some of the rolls are really good and some others leave a lot to be desired. The tuna rolls are a bit disappointing, pretty bland and flavorless, sad to say it, but the ones at 7-11 taste a bit better and have more flavor. The freshness of the rolls can't be beat. Everything is very fresh and you can taste it immidiately as you take a bite. I'm more of a fan of eating fusion sushi rolls like dragon, rainbow, caterpillar, lobster rolls, etc Here you won't find these selections but more like tuna rolls and spam rolls which happen to be very tastey. The prices are excellent and you'll get a good meal for about $10 as you mix and match various rolls. I've been here 4 separate times and the chef/cook/owner is always consistent and rolls are super fresh and the rice is cooked to perfection, not too soggy and not too dry. The owner speaks very poor English so be sure to point to the pictures as he takes your order or he may misunderstand your order and you'll get something you didn't order. Even though he got one of my selections wrong the first time it was a welcome difference and I still enjoyed the mistaken order. Overall not too bad considering the place looks like a complete hole in a wall as you drive by.

Sun Sushi the only place (besides 7-11, LAWL), I'd get sushi in Waianae. Seriously, they're the best in town. They make everything fresh when you order it, which can mean a little waiting if you have a big order, but I'd rather wait a little for my sushi than have 5 hour old pre-made bidnass. Nom'sayin? Prices are super cheap, most hand rolls under $2, and they have sushi platters available if you're planning to feed a group. As mentioned in other reviews, the owners are very quiet, but they're so super cute! Make sure you bring cash - there's a 7-11 right next door if you forget - and don't be afraid to try a bunch of stuff on their menu. If you're worried about the order being right, just go into "talking to my grandparents/Japanese tourists" mode; slow, friendly tones, and LOTS of gesticulation. One star off for the location: that parking lot is AWFUL to get out of, but other than that Sun Sushi is A-OK in my book. 12/31 31 Yelps Review Challenge

Sun Sushi has the best sushi in town =) Their Spicy Ahi Roll is absolutely to die for! Yum :-D All of the food is fresh and made to order. Prepare to wait. Trust me, it's worth it. Obviously the decor isn't anything special (as you can tell by other yelp reviews), but HELLO, the food totally makes up for it! And heller, did you go to Sun Sushi for the décor or the sushi? Yeah, that's what I thought!!! ;-P Call ahead if you ordering a lot or if its a busy weekend. Tip: Cash Only!

Sushi is very fresh. Service is a little slow. Prices are good. There is a bit of a language barrier when ordering so just read and point. When we went, we tried to order more maki rolls but they actually ran out of rice. Kinda silly. A sushi place running out of rice. The yellow tail tuna sushi is a must try. It melts in your mouth.

Located in the parking lots behind BBQ Kai. Ok parking. Bus Stop directly in front. Not hard to miss, the restaurant has a bright yellow sign that reads Sun Sushi. Best place in Waianae to get sushi from. Everything is handmade and fresh. Very good prices. Although the owner and the workers barely speak English and are shy, they are very friendly. Growing up I'd find coins walking home from school and stop there to get one of there spam rolls, much better tasting and cheaper then a 711 musubi. They do how ever need to do a little renovation, sign is falling apart, BB gun shots in window and although I think it's cool but it does look a little ugly the tables are carved up with people's names. But at the end of the day their sushi is good and so is there prices.

Gonna be honest....prices are cheap.....owners speak limited English....wait is really long.....food taste average! We only have 2 sushi places in Waianae and the prices like I've mentioned is cheap but you get what you pay for. I'd recommend calling your order in!

This place is way better than in-out sushi everything is fresh and consistent in taste I love the dragon roll with extra wasabi broke the mouth!!

On a recent vacation to Waianae, we ordered take-out sushi from Sun Sushi. The food was delicious and fresh and very reasonably priced. I was surprised at the (low) total when I arrived to pick up dinner. The only, slight complaint, is that if calling in an order, communication by telephone is difficult...English does not appear to be well understood. It probably would not have been an issue if ordering in person. Again, this is a very minor concern and the food was great. I definitely recommend Sun Sushi.

Surprisingly it was good one. Great!:) Basically this place is great to go. While we were eating, around 4 different party picked up and go. As a Japanese, this place remind me the to go sushi in Japanese supermarket which means it is good enough.

Sun Sushi is the best place to get sushi on the leeward side, by far - only Kazoku Sushi in Kapolei is as good, but is far more stylish and expensive. The elderly couple that run Sun Sushi may not say much at all, but their food can speak volumes for itself. Trust me. It's always just right, high quality, and fresh.

Food was good and price was extremely reasonable. Dining experience was lacking (only 3 small tables, stark white walls...) and they take cash only. Probably best for takeout!

The sushi is fresh, cheap and made fast (less than ten minutes). The rice is nicely seasoned and other flavors were very good. Perfect to order up a tray to take to the beach. Don't forget to ask for wasabi/ginger, which they will generously include (if you ask).
